I have some things in my past that I don't want to be open about, but also don't want to lie about. I've reached the conclusion that the only right thing is to avoid any outright lying, while carefully picking my words to convey the truth where it matters, and doing my best to avoid deception while remembering that ambiguity is OK as long as you can honestly justify withholding the bare and total truth.

Thank you so much! I was just telling my daughter this exact stuff tonight and then your video was miraculously posted at exactly the same time. That was God!
I heard what you said at the end. “Was that a weird video? I think that was a weird video.” Hahahaha And I say NO it was not weird. I can’t speak for anyone else but I’ve told many little untruths just to make myself look better when it probably doesn’t matter to the person I’m talking to. As you reminded us, Jesus said, “let your yes be your yes and your no be your no anything other is from the evil one.” Next time you say how many triathlons you have done, tell them 2 and a 1/3. Anyone would ask about the 1/3. Or simply tell them 2 and trained for 3rd but was injured. You deserve credit for that (almost 3rd). Thank you Fr. Mike, you have given me a lot to think about. Being as honest as we can possibly be is a freeing feeling. Besides, it means more that people like me for exactly who I am. I hope this is a feeling for many others as well. Amen.
I've reinforced a stack of untruths to my son: Santa Claus, Easter bunny, tooth fairy etc. I had to tell him the truth about Santa when my son was 12. He was so upset. Luckily he had worked out the Easter bunny and tooth fairy on his own by the age of 8. I know that my 'little white lies' tend to be: protect someone's feelings - "Do you like my outfit? etc" or to protect myself, in the sense of not wanting to be an 'open book' with people who aren't in my inner circle.
Thank you so much for this, Father Mike! Awesome video, really helpful! These "white lies" almost always become gateway sins to even bigger sins too. Better to shoot high in telling the whole truth and nothing but truth and end up doing an average job of it, than to be less than clear and factual and fall low into the territory of lies and false witness. Lots of people have this struggle and those that don't are blessed. Also it must be summer in the north at last - you have a tan!
Father Mike, spot on spiritual psychoanalysis. Boy, you nailed it with the internal self-awareness. I think you could give Dr. Phil a run for his money.
Dear father, Mike., Thank you for taking the time to explain all that my mom used to call it when we did things that we didn’t tell about lying by the sin of omission. It’s strange that the woman who said that to me all the time I am now not telling things because she’s 86 she’s blind and very angry about it and she has a little bit of mental illness so my conversations with her I tried to choose my words carefully and balance what I think, she should know from what actually happened. You definitely have given me some insight I thank you very much.
Father Mike that totally make sense Father Mike the Holy Spirit uses you in big loving amazing ways 🙏 you are such a blessing thank you for saying yes to your calling maybe if is God's willing you could teach new young priests. God bless you 😇
I think it’s easier to say, “I have to leave,” instead of “I want to leave,” because “have to” allows for a multitude of reasons outside of yourself, and not just your desire to get away from that person. Pretty hard to NOT insult someone by saying “I want to leave,” and giving NO reason why. Always have plenty of legitimate reasons to not be where you currently are.
Just be honest. You should say I want to get away from you now. It was fun but you are starting to annoy me so I want to leave while we are still friends.

Once again Fr. Patrick touches the heart with his powerful sermon. When I think of those people who were family and friends and have passed away, I don't necessarily think that they might be in need of prayer rather than just my tears of missing them. Saying a prayer or praying the Holy Rosary for them can turn tears to joy. HOPE meaning Help Other People Everywhere can include the holy souls. Thank you Fr. Patrick for your mission of HOPE.
I agree with your assessment on why we lie, even little lies like your example. But one reason I do this is because I have always been a people pleaser, so I put a good "face" on something. Even if it something stupidly simple. I also agree that we lie about small things because we do want to look good/talented/smart etc. to others. I am working on changing this to BE more authentic. Having said all of that, I also agree that everyone doesn't need to know everything you think, at the moment when you think it.
Thanks so much Fr. Mike for this video and all you do for us to help lead us on the right path in life towards Heaven. You are truly full of the Holy Spirit. God bless you 🙏 ✝ 🕊 🌹 ❤

Thank you Father Mike for being transparent. Before my conversion, thie concept of transparency was sometimes preached in evangelical circles. It keeps one in boundaries of right decisions, knowing that we are tied to Truth. And the honesty about failures is freedom ❤
God bless you! I’ve been thinking about this a lot recently.... I realise I’m not always completely honest because I’m so worried about offending people. I’m still wrestling with wether it’s better to be completely honest at the risk of offending someone or bending the truth to keep the peace! Like “I have to leave now!”

Thank-you Father Mike! You're videos have helped me realize how God is part of everything I do----no one has ever explained it in such a way that I finally understand. God bless you! Praying for you too.
I am a culprit of this unfortunately. I do it when I don’t want to go somewhere and pretend I have other plans not to hurt someone’s feelings! I just don’t feel like going. :(
I would say staying home and doing nothing should count as other plans. As an introvert, I frequently feel misunderstood by extroverts who don't understand my need for time on the calendar that doesn't involve social plans. For me, 2020 was a good year, absolutely amazing. I finally felt like I could keep up with life, but unfortunately it's back to the races.

@OfficialProJustice it’s sometimes easier said than done esp dealing with a person who easily offended and you want to protect feelings i just try and say nothing it’s complicated but i keep praying 🙏🏼
@OfficialProJusticeI can tell you’re very young. It is not loving to hurt people by giving a blunt truth, rather than couching it in loving language or avoiding certain topics. In addition, one’s opinion is rarely the truth. Facts are truth.
Let your yes be yes and let you no be no. Thanks, Fr. Mike!!!
Thank you for bringing this topic up. I've been "chewing" on this for a while, & you put it into perspective 😊
Totally agree with you have felt the same
Thank you Father
Your the best God bless you Father Mike
I have some things in my past that I don't want to be open about, but also don't want to lie about. I've reached the conclusion that the only right thing is to avoid any outright lying, while carefully picking my words to convey the truth where it matters, and doing my best to avoid deception while remembering that ambiguity is OK as long as you can honestly justify withholding the bare and total truth.
You could also say it's none of their business, or probably more politely say you don't want to talk about it.
Father.. thank you for this video. I loved it. Your honesty and clarity truly helped me a lot. You have such amazing common sense..and humility.
Please never stop making these wonderful videos 🙏🏻✝️🌹

Romans 3 kJV
23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

1 Corinthians 15 kJV
1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

1st. Unfortunately I tell
sometimes lies and it hurts me 💔 but the truth is better. But when it comes to people I really care about and I tell them the truth, why do they say things that hurt. I do care about them 100%! And I have someone in my heart that I can’t unlove. It’s hard for me😔
So they say hurtful things in response to you telling them truthful things? Some truths don’t need to be known by others. Ask yourself this: are the truthful things you tell them **likely** to cause their negative response, and is it necessary to tell them?

Great message Father, for everyone!
That citation about Jesus.. Let your “Yes” be Yes, Your “No” be No… everything else is from the Evil One.. Geez! Brilliance! 🙏🏻
Jesus See's everything so i have no reason to not be honest, The truth will set you free(sometimes or in trouble) God Bless you Fr:Mike🙏
Thank you so much! I was just telling my daughter this exact stuff tonight and then your video was miraculously posted at exactly the same time. That was God!
Especially liked the bit about looking to others for approval.
makes all the sense father!! i really have a problem with the little lies, thank you for give us these three questions for ourselves
Hi, my name is Robin Lee and this is Your viewer. 😂. God bless you fr mike.
I heard what you said at the end. “Was that a weird video? I think that was a weird video.”
Hahahaha
And I say NO it was not weird. I can’t speak for anyone else but I’ve told many little untruths just to make myself look better when it probably doesn’t matter to the person I’m talking to. As you reminded us, Jesus said, “let your yes be your yes and your no be your no anything other is from the evil one.”
Next time you say how many triathlons you have done, tell them 2 and a 1/3.
Hi Padre. This video was not weird at all. It was great and so true. Thank you.
I am struggling a lot with lying. This video will go a long way in helping me work on my weakness. God bless you!
Thank you so much for this, Father Mike! I caught myself recently when I was shopping with my mom (she asked) and told her I spend $20, instead of $37. 😕 It's shameful because I struggle with makeup purchases, like a shopaholic. But, I will keep my honesty from now on and do my best to not overspend on stuff I already have.
oh this reminds me of my mum and the truth I covered up, but why was she so nosey anyway lol!
I am the same with overbuying 😭 sometimes it feels like I can’t stop myself. I’ll pray for you!
@@spaceforgrace3312 Sometimes, a mom's instincts just knows us too well when they ask!
@@user-ep8xo1od9o aww thank you so much!! I will be praying for you too!💛 It's been a long struggle, but I'm ready to make small changes, like a budget plan for each month.
@@BlessedLifeLoveandFaith no- she was just nosey! I was earning money and free to spend a little on myself! I never ask my daughter how much she spends on clothes.
I'm new to the Catholic faith and your channel has been so helpful.
welcome home🙏
One goo thing to remember is that silence can also be a good way to avoid white lies in some situations. Not everything needs to be talked about with everyone. Especially when it's something that could lead to the sin of gossip if it's talked about too much.
Father Mike, as always, this was an amazing and inspiring video. I always appreciate your honesty and how you just tell it like it is. Its very refreshing, and you're an awesome person and an even more awesome Priest. Thank you for all the videos youre always pumping out. I hope you realize how many people you inspire! I pray for you everyday. God bless you!!!

💙 Fear of being judged and disappointing to others ! 💙
Well Fr Mike, youve done 2 more triathlons than me. Always wanted to do a triathlon, but deep, open water scares me.
Honesty is the best policy. Especially being honest with yourself. And honesty with others keeps us accountable for our actions.
"Better to beg forgiveness than ask permission"!!! 😅 Your uncle is very wise!! And I'm glad you followed his advice "too often"!!
We are all human… so brave of you Father. Learning from this… 👍
Father Mike that totally make sense Father Mike the Holy Spirit uses you in big loving amazing ways 🙏 you are such a blessing thank you for saying yes to your calling maybe if is God's willing you could teach new young priests. God bless you 😇
Not a weird vidio Father Mike ,just the truth and nothing else! AMEN!
Thank you Lord Jesus Christ 🙏 thank you Fr. Mike🙏
Father Mike you are a treasure and I am being completely honest 😊
Excellent!
Or you could just say "I'll go" and leave it open.
Just be honest. You should say I want to get away from you now. It was fun but you are starting to annoy me so I want to leave while we are still friends.
I would also recommend "it's time for me to go."

And they will obviously ask you, “Oh, why?”

Then you would literally sound like a rather low-functioning Autistic person. I mean, if that’s what you’re going for, by all means, but that would, again, be giving a false impression.
Thank you!
Just yesterday I was having such a hard time with this (not just yesterday, many days, but it was much worse yesterday)…wondering what is wrong with me? Thank you, Father Mike! This was much needed!!
I just got my great adventure bible in the mail today and am super excited to get it blessed and start following the Bible in a year ! Thank you Father Mike!
It makes sense Fr. Mike! I’ve been doing it for too long. Let my yes be yes and no be no, amen!
Dude! I mean Fr. Mike! I can’t believe you even did “1” off those!!! HUGE Kudos to You!!!! 🤩👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thank you Father Mike for sharing.
Excellent message Father Mike. I know when I tell those little white lies it chips away at my closer relationship with Jesus.
Are you ok, Fr? Looks like you're in the struggle, Champion. Bless you, mighty man of God.
Nice priest 👍
WOW, Fr. Mike. This really made me take stock of my words. Thank you for your transparency and excellent suggestions. 🙏🙏🙏
Thanks so much Fr. Mike for this video and all you do for us to help lead us on the right path in life towards Heaven. You are truly full of the Holy Spirit. God bless you 🙏 ✝ 🕊 🌹 ❤

Excellent video. It is something I struggle with, even this very day. I pray for and love Father Mike.
It wasn’t a weird video, itwas honest and I’ll bet hit home for everyone. You are simply the best!
Thank you for this Father Mike
This is a very useful video. These reminders to check our motivations and behaviours - even those which could be seen as small or inconsequential - help us to become better people, better Christians, better Catholics and ultimately bring us closer to God.
Thank you.
Thans Fr. Mike!
Thank you Father Mike for being transparent. Before my conversion, thie concept of transparency was sometimes preached in evangelical circles. It keeps one in boundaries of right decisions, knowing that we are tied to Truth. And the honesty about failures is freedom ❤
You’re the best, Father Mike ❤
Lord, help me to live in Truth. 🕊️🙏
Thank you, you are very inspiring. You reflect Jesus.
Thanks Fr. Mike for this message. I appreciate these little hints as they have hit on some of my own what I call white lies.🙏
You a real one Fr Mike, may the Lord bless you and us with more priests with your kind of heart
Yes, you made a lot of sense Fr Mike!
Thank you for speaking truth to us

God bless you Father, thank you so much for these videos!
Great food for thought Father Mike.
Thank you.
Thank you for this video. Holy Spirit inspired really, needed this
Fr. Mike….it wasn’t a weird video…it was a great, thoughtful one! Thanks
You know just to be here and hear Father Mike’s joy in the Lord has truly rubbed off on me and I feel exactly the same when I talk about God
Thank you for your honesty Fr.
Father Mike Schmitz is a really cool person. I love his funny intros from the beginning they are cool. The reason I liked him because my family and I watched his Mass videos on UA-cam and is cool as well so that’s how I got into this.
Thank you Fr. Mike. I must deal with this in my next confession
Father Mike. This wasn't a weird video. It was exactly what I needed. I need to be mindful with my words. I tell white lies all the time or I exaggerate a little bit to get my point across x I need to stop this. I also find myself maybe exaggerating a story to comfort people. I'll find another way cos all lies big or small are negative x
Thank-you Father Mike! You're videos have helped me realize how God is part of everything I do----no one has ever explained it in such a way that I finally understand. God bless you! Praying for you too.
You do not know how much I needed this. 😊
Thank you so, so much for this video. This is one of my most confessed sins! It's gotten so much better but it angers me when I catch mysel f doing it again. Jesus is the Truth !
Thankyou Fr. Mike. This has neen on my heart lately. I even spoke about this exact thing in confession recently. Im delighted to come across this
😂 I heard you, "Was that just a weird video" A little vague, that's all. It's called "I think it's called "stretching the truth". My bigger fault is saying too much on FB and not commenting what, I think the speaker/writer wants to see but heh, I welcome anyone who wants to PERSONALLY call me out on whatever they think of whatever I say or post. We're still loving BIAY Fr. Mike. It's different the second time with my husband than it was the first time myself. Yet, and this is the HONEST TRUTH.🖐 I know now as I never have. God's Word IS Living and along with your summary speaks to each/both of us and to our day, daily. Thank you.
Absolutely PHENOMENAL video!! Thank you for covering this topic!!!
I have always told the truth as best I can. When I find out someone told a lie it makes me sad or angry. 12 years of Catholic school.
FYI - I’ve never done a triathlon. 😄 Be humbly proud of your accomplishments.
And, I understand what you are saying, but I think it is so important to put love before the hammer of the truth. The three questions are a great litmus test for self reflection.
Father you hit the nail on my head. Thanks
Jesus I love you. All I have is yours. Yours I am yours I want to be. Do with me whatever you will.
