I installed PPF on the front bumper and headlights. After 4 years there are multiple punctures in the PPF and two rocks that actually penetrated the film ad damaged the paint. The tip of the hood is not protected and has received a few small nicks. I would recommend covering the bumper at the very least.

Which Brand and type of PPF did you use? Some have more “self healing” properties. I’m researching now.

I installed Expel PPF with self healing. Some of these damages on PPF could be healed by heat gun or hair dryer. But of the big damages can't.

The PPF will change over time and make the area treated noticeably different. Also, if you go with matte or satin PPF it will be drastically different. Most people with common sense can install the PPF on their own car for 1/5 the price. It takes patience and about a day or two. It is a worthwhile skill to learn which can make you money on the side as well.

it's not as easy to self-install as you think. I know cuz i am going through the process...1st off, the really good ppf don't come in precut kits, so you have to go w/ the lesser-known ones which all don't offer the same protection. to me, if you are spending > $40k on a car, getting just part of the car w/ high impact areas ppf'ed by a professional is worth the ~$2k price.

everyone can for sure is just the location where you install is the key. Some shops have dedicate detailing area to eliminate dust and other contaminants prior to install. Even with a garage you still have to check through and through how clean and dust free the area is. Not everyone have empty garage at HOME for dedicate detailing purposes 😂
