But we don’t really get to know much about these important characters at all. Fortunately, the author has revealed little-known facts about the Potters over the years, and these secret truths are shocking. Discover all about their own families, like why James was so rich but yet his family didn’t make it into the “Sacred Twenty-Eight”. I think the phrase 'your eyes are the window to your soul' inspired J.K when she wrote Harry. Although Harry looks like his Father, he inherited his Mother's traits of compassion and kindness; boy c/wouldn't even use the killing curse on Voldemort of all people.

At the beginning of the Sorcerer's Stone, it is explained that Harry's hair is untamable, because his aunt and uncle had made him cut it several times, and it had always mysterious grown back by the next day. I've always assumed that James' hair was the same way, since Harry takes after him in looks.

James and Lilly were both 21 when they were murdered, but the actors who portrayed them were 43 and 34 and looked it.
That's what also bothers me. They always looked way too old in the movies than they were supposed to be.

Because Lily and James were part of the order, they decided to start a family before they died.
When I already read through the whole article and never actually saw James as a bad person, always knew he could've been the kind person who was pampered since the first article I read was that Fleamont and Euphemia Potter was quite elderly when James came into the world, having NO compromise of having another child made James the ONLY person to inherited that large family fortune.

The relationship between James and Snape was far worse than Harry and Draco. Both James and Harry saved Snape's and Draco's life. Both parties Hexed each other. And talking about Snape , He bullied (nearly orphaned) Neville Longbottom to a point that He became his worst fear. Everyone in the school hated Snape for his attitude. While James did some bullying , He grew up and was a far better, friendly and affectionate person than Snape can ever hope to be. That is the reason why Lily choose James.

Controversial statement: I can enjoy both of Jame’s and Snape’s characters whilst not believing one is better than the other. I also believe that they’re both nuanced characters, and the fact that Lily chose one over the other is not enough ground to bash her, and either of the two.

People are very quick to forgive Snape for what he has done because he was there first. But Lily is not some object to be won over. For years and years he made the wrong decisions and only decided to change after she was dead, yet Snape gets alot of love even when its revealed that he bullies Neville because he thought he should've been the chosen one. James on the other hand clearly decided to change when he needed to. He grew up and it's ultimately Lily's decision who she wanted to love and she chose James.

You are right, we should forgive James, he was a good man.
Married young? Of course, we had the wizarding war, but when I think about it... Harry was 10 in 1990, so that means he's only 5 years younger than me. My own parents married at the age of 20 and 21 respectively and where 24 and 25 when I was born, which was actually the case for many couples at the time, and a lot married before reaching 20. It's really something of only the last few decades that people wait till their thirties or at least the second half of their twenties.
My teacher for Dutch, who was close to the age retire at the time, told me that she once had to examine a 16 years old girl who just got married the day before her exam, which was back in the day that happened actually quite normal. So no, the ages of James and Lily Potter are neither exceptional nor shocking nor anything for marrying and giving birth to Harry.

Snape was horrible. He was a bully towards his students and Neville's biggest fear (considering that Neville's boggart was his own teacher!!).
James was young when he was a bully but Snape was an adult when he decided to hate on everyone outside Slytherin. I don't see how a bullying adult is better than a bullying teen.
Not saying James was perfect, but I do believe that Snape wasn't as good as most fans want to believe (though he did good in the end...).

Neville couldve been the other ‘chosen one’ because the prophecy reffered to both harry and neville. It could have been neville instead of harry, which meant lily wouldve survived. The reason he was so mean was becuase the trauma affected him so badly that he wanted to take out some of his bitterness on students.

The so called sacred twenty-eight was compiled by a member of the Nott family that had a grudge against the Lord Potter of that time because he was a pure blood that stood against the discrimination against mundanes(muggles). It very sad that JK says things that are meant to prop up fans, rather than what she wrote. As from what we get there is no indication that Lily ever saw Snape as anything but a friend. As for the incident in 5 year we get only Snape’s biased view of that. Any event has more than one side. Snape’s comparisons between Harry and James outside of Harry looking like his father and having his mother’s eyes have absolutely NO basis in fact. In all honesty the character that acts like James according to Snape’s description is his own godson Draco Malfoy. Lily’s description of James was made in defense of her friend and as she was not present when the incident began had no knowledge of what started it. Snape was NOT an innocent. Lily does not seem to be the kind of woman that would love someone that treats children the way Snape does.

I love this seemingly "fairytale" story. Rowling is really a storytelling genius. But the HP story is more than a fairytale. In it everything means something else. It's symbolic double speak. If you read the books of Chr. Knight, you will realize that there is a parallel for it, a historical one. The names in it too, they often have double meanings. Dumbledore sounds strange, and it really means: "Dumb Leader." The person really represents the Roman Church, which has "prodigious magical skills." I don't dare to tell too many things I recognized in the HP story. Valdemort means "val de mort," that is, "death valley". And that person is in fact a real historical organization, which is not dead. The Muggles are we, the crowdn unaware. Hermione in fact means "The Hermaphrodite One". Hermione tells: "there was a Wizards' conference 1,ooo years ago - there was, in fact, in 1128 in Troyes, France. Read all of Christopher Kniths' books and if you can think, you will realize that the HP story is in fact a symbolic parallel to some historic events. Valdemort is alive, but I don't dare to tell you who it is.

I read somewhere that the Potters were also excluded from the sacred 28 because one of the ancestors, in the early 20th century, was very pro-muggle and spoke out against the Minister of Magic's opposition to wizard participation in the First World War.
The actors portraying his parents were too old. According to the books they were only 21 when they died. The actors were 34 and 43. I guess they looked the part, other than age, but it doesn’t fit the story at all.
I know it’s sad that Harry parents died. But.. if they didn’t the story would be so much different and maybe boring? I’m not sure but it would be 100% different and that’s for sure.

I wonder when James went to try and stop Voldemort and he realized he didn't have a wand if he turned into prongs so he could have some sort of defense.
I also heard that james wasn't actually a bully. When he used levicorpus, that was a spell that snape invented so james must have seen snape use it before. And when he was 'bullying' snape he was just punishing him for being rude to all of the muggleborns.

It's always bothered me a bit that they cast actors that were so much older than Lily and James were meant to be. However, thinking it over, I wonder if it was so that it wouldn't confuse movie audiences to see young adults who were parents to Harry, especially when you consider Harry at 17 talking to his parents' 'spirits' (for want of a better term) in Deathly Hallows. At 21/22 years of age, they wouldn't look old enough to be parents, especially to a teenager, even though they're dead. So to contrast Harry's age, they made Lily and James older. I hope that makes sense.

Why did they hire actors who were so much older than the characters they were portraying? That's the case with James, Lily, Serius, & Snape. I don't want to take anything away from the superb performances by Gary Oldman & Alan Rickman. They both did a fantastic job, but both actors were way too old for the roles. When the series starts with "Harry Potter & the Sorcerer's/Philosopher's Stone" both Serius & Severus should have been in their early 30's, and the ghosts of James & Lily Potter should've been around 21, and yet all the actors were far older than that. It makes the timeline not make any sense!
I agree with Severus but with SIrus shoul have 33 or 34 years when he meet Harry you have to think that he spent 12 years in Azkaban, living woth the dementors, that sure made you look more old that a normal, and Lupin was werewolf so he should loook alse more old tham his 33-34 years or 40 when he die... Snape didnt have this excuse, he should have look lije 30-31 year old in the first movie even if I love Alan as a Snape

It seems like lily and James grew up in different worlds but as time passed and they grew closer in their relationship they knew where they should take their relationship once they graduated from hogwarts. They got married so they could always be with each other in the magical world.. but that came with a price. Voldemort was determined to get harry after his parents were gone but now that harry is older and people told him how voldemort had his parents killed harry was determined to end voldemorts.. and harry followed through with his plan so no one else or himself would be in danger again.

At 8:25 she says lets not forget that the first Wizarding was taking place at that time, however the war with Gellert Grindelwald was the first one, (and you can't technically say that that war was civil war because then the war with Voldemort be one as well) and that ended in 1945, while both James in Lily were born in 1960, so there is a 15 year difference. Just wanted to point it out because I got confused when I heard it.
