As a lifelong, dedicated goth, I can confirm, some of us do like to hang out in cemeteries. It's peaceful, in a melancholy sort of way, and so long as you're being respectful to the people that are buried there and the families that come to visit, I think it's a fine way to spend a day/night.
I like wandering around cemeteries and graveyards, looking at the graves and thinking about the people beneath them, but while most graveyards are peaceful, there are exceptions. A couple of years ago, I visited an abandoned little medieval church in the middle of nowhere, which has an ancient graveyard surrounded by yew trees. I've been to dozens of similar old churchyards that are quaint, pretty and peaceful, but not this one - I felt physically sick walking around, couldn't stop looking over my shoulder and almost ran out of there! Nobody else was around and it was broad daylight, but what a weird vibe!
Have to be honest (ex-smoker here), that's probably the first time I've ever head the phrase "crushing cigarettes". Your vocabulary never ceases to amaze me. Hats off to you, my good sir.

I spent a lot of my teenage years homeless. One night I decided to sleep out on this little island/recreational area that was is town. It had a really nice wooded area right next to the ocean, so I said "Why not? This is a relaxing place." So I found a nice little spot under some trees, curled up and went to sleep to the sound of the ocean. What I woke up to though was not at all peaceful. There was a lot of noise coming from the parking area down past the wooded lot where I was. I sat up, all bleary eyed and cautiously made my way down to where I could see what was happening without giving away my presence. The parking lot was full of police cars. There was an ambulance and a couple of unmarked vehicles. The wooded area on the opposite side of where I was was completely roped off and all the police focus was on that area of the woods. I slipped down to the beach and stayed out of sight until I could get around to the entrance of the park and just kind of meandered my way into the small crowd that had gathered. I asked what was happening and got the answer "Someone got murdered last night over in the woods". Apparently a couple of guys had gone to one of the many local bars, picked out a guy that was known for being openly homosexual and who at that time was extremely drunk. They asked if he wanted to go to a party and instead took him to the island and committed an unforgivable hate crime. I won't go into details. I did call one of the local police detectives that I knew and told him that I had been out there sleeping but hadn't heard anything at all. They did catch the assholes that killed the guy thankfully. But the whole thing haunted me for a long time. The fact that it happened so close to where I was sleeping, it still gives me chills when I think about it 30 years later.
At least you were safe from them and they didn't do anything to you which sounds like a crappy thing to say, but in every dark situation there is some light.
@@Cheepchipsable true, but when your 15 and just crawling out of the woods where you spent the night to find out some poor guy was brutally murdered it kind of screws with your head for a while.
It is his awknowledgment that he is part of a team that makes this happen. He doesn't do all the editing all by himself so saying "we" shows appreciation for the other people that play a part in creating the finished product.

This was totally me as a teenager in the 90s. I was very goth but in a super small town of 700 people in Canada. We have a settler graveyard on the edge of town where all the graves are from the 1800s. Its beautifully kept and very peaceful on a lovely green hill. We used to go drink or smoke joints there and I would go with my sketch pad and draw the gravestones. We would be careful to never disturb anything and its still a neat historical location to visit.

One time my friends and I held a seance in the ancient graveyard behind my house in the middle of the night. There's this trail on the top that goes into the woods and is great for hiking. Halfway through the seance we hear some bizarre cackling in the distance, and it's getting closer. We literally thought we summoned a group of evil witches and barreled down the hill, absolutely terrified. Later the subject of camping came up at some point and my mom went on one of her random tangents about how she remembers Coyotes at one campsite and how they sound exactly like a bunch of young women laughing hysterically, and I realized that's exactly what we had heard that night at the graveyard. We had summoned coyotes, not witches, and if you're a bunch of thirteen year olds it's not much better.
Some people think hanging out in a cemetery is weird or disrespectful, hey some of those people haven't had anyone come visit them for decades and these lovely kids (assuming they're not vandals) come by and spend time with them every now and then

It's not a really common thing. I've been hiking and camping my whole life and know nobody who went missing. It happens sure but you're way more likely to get in a car accident on the way there then go missing 😜
It depends where you go, how do you prepare yourself, and how do you know the territory. Plus you really need to consider how far out of civilization you want to go: in Canada or USA or Russia (and other places too) the wilderness is so vast that you can seriously get lost and die alone... Oh, and also important is how updated are your maps: I've been hiking since 12yo within Scout group here in Italy, and once they proposed us (16yo) if we wanted to do a 24h hike alone (eventually in couple for the girls that were scared) in the Alps. Problem was the maps were from IT-army and dated back to 1965 (and we were in 1990), so there was a bifurcation on the path that wasn't on the map... I knew looking at the map that I had to take the right path at the 1st bifurcation... Problem is that what on the map was the 1st bif. on the real path was the 2nd... So I took the wrong one and found myself, alone, at the very top of a mountain were the path ended and the only way to go down was either go back (but I hat to go back...) or proceed "by azimut" (read: straight into a steep slope with no path continuing into my direction). I did it, and checking the mountains around me and the map, I understood I was actually walking OUT from the area covered by the map. Luckily Alps aren't so huge and uninhabited like a lot of places in USA and by going down I would have met a road sooner or later. I met first a forest ranger to whom I showed my map and where I was coming from and he was like "Did you come down from THERE???" and then indicated me how to move on to reach a paved road that in the end brought me back to my base camp around midnight :)
As a kid/teen I used to hang in cemeteries all the time. They are lovely quiet green spaces. Was always respectful and never any problems. Only twice did angry ghosts want me to leave, and I did. The end.
i go every sunday night after 10pm cause its peaceful and quiet and i can sing and talk to my dad in peace sometimes i even bring my instruments with their mutes so they arent too loud to show my dad what ive been up to but id never do that in the day time way too many people there dont need to disturb their grief

I remember one time I was watching a movie with my dad a Vietnam War Vet and there was a part that came on where a guy was burning and I said out loud I bet thats messed up cause its terrible but yet it probably smells good. ( I was like 16 at the time) and he looked at me and said No, son you don't want to ever smell that smell its so terrible it makes you want to vomit and it stays with you for days and you will never ever forget what burning human flesh smells like and I could see him get visibly upset so I dropped it and didn't ask any more. But even that story stayed with me I couldn't imagine the actual smell.
I’ve got third degree burns on my arm and lower legs.. it’s a terrible sweet smell that doesn’t smell like anything else cooking.. People smelled it in my house for weeks, I smelled it for months and months. It was so bad I had to move to get away from it.
my dad is also a veteran he was apart of iraqi freedom and i said something similar to him when i was probably 14 or 15 (im 23 now) and I remember his tone going from very light and joking to very serious and he basically told me the same thing you will never forget that smell once you smell it and the smell stays on your clothes and in your nose for what feel like forever….Bless veterans and the stuff they had to do and witness

Thank you mrballen your stories have helped me. I’m going through a few things and haven’t been able to sleep very well. They helped me stay out of my head and positive.
@Doesn't Jump to conclusions because burning flesh smells horrible. If you've ever been to war you'll never forget it. Not to mention to get the body burning they had to use diesal or gas to get it going and gas won't do it. You need diesal it burns much hotter. So it's not like cooking pork it's would be like lighting the pig on fire. The skin and fat smell horrible when burning. The body wasn't burning without a accelerant. Not just a flame to a body it wouldn't burn in the woods like that. And it's hard to burn a body in a open fire. That's not very big. That's why in the video attempted to burn the body. It's not as easy as one would think.
@@nathayelakgonzales4969 part of me wants to know what it smells like just for curiosity purposes, but the other part doesn’t want to because I don’t want to participate in the necessary actions required to do so.
This is truly one of the most terrifying true stories I've ever heard in my life; and I've been following true crime and mysteries since I was definitely way too young. My mom used to tell me every true crime case she read about, in vivid detail--which contributed to my horrible anxiety well into adulthood, I'm sure. She'd really wanted to become a criminal profiler or criminologist, but stayed home to raise us instead. I actually majored in Criminal Justice for a while in college, before I realized that I was way too sensitive for that line of work. I would never be able to look at crime scene photos or videos, and just reading about some, actually makes me physically ill. My interest is in the psychology behind criminals. How can a person murder, torture, sexually assault, dismember, another human being and feel no remorse about their actions? How does one lack the natural human instinct to protect and help others? Why do some people actually ENJOY doing things that would cause disgust, sorrow, grief, and horror in the brain of a normal person? It's all just so baffling to me.
Killers are worrisome enough. But what REALLY makes me worried is that I figure for every person who does it, there must be, like, a hundred who are borderline capable of doing it. Like they have very little compassion or maybe they think it would be cool to kill someone, but they never carry out the idea.
Reminds me of something that I experienced as a teen. I lived in BFE and didn't drive, and (being as I was basically "Goth" before Goth was even a thing) I liked to go for walks up our road in the middle of the night. So I set out one night, and about 3/4 mile up the road I hear something moving in the brush. I freeze in the road and turn towards it, but I don't see anything and the sound stopped. I told myself it was probably just some deer, and kept going. Eventually I went back home and went to bed. Around 4:30 am or so (it was just starting to get light and I hadn't been asleep long), I was wakened by a bunch of dogs barking incessantly. I didn't recognize them, and it sounded like a lot more than we had around us, so I got up and went out to the dining room. My grandparents were already up and having coffee, so I asked what all the hullaballoo was. They said some man had stabbed a 10 year old boy about 30 times and then ran cross country and they just caught him up at our neighbor's trailer (he wasn't home at the time). I didn't say anything about having been out the night before. To this day I wonder if I'd heard a deer, or this psycho killer running through our woods.
Mr. Ballen Has an amazing ability to tell a story which I think is a gift. I don’t think I’ve ever been intrigued at this level by anyone telling a story.

yup. A body, semi-fresh, rotten or burning, is a smell that directly links to your instincts. it pierces through everything, even if you´ve never smelled it before. It just triggers the GTFO-alarm deep in your brain.
I was never a "goth" girl... however there was a terrific cemetery within walking distance of my high school boarding school. And my friends and I made very good use of it! Extremely quite for reading, fantastic epitaphs for creative writing, and it went back to the 1700's, so the history of diseases/plagues/pandemics was obvious.
It was a targeted attack, so no reason for you to be scared.

We used to go drink or smoke joints there and I would go with my sketch pad and draw the gravestones. We would be careful to never disturb anything and its still a neat historical location to visit.

Me too. Another so called friend story.

I am now completely convinced that hiking and camping in the wilderness is way more dangerous than I can handle. So many missing people
It's not a really common thing. I've been hiking and camping my whole life and know nobody who went missing. It happens sure but you're way more likely to get in a car accident on the way there then go missing 😜
I tell this to everyone but just be more alert and youll be fine its a good general rule of thumb to never be oblivious to your surroundings
Trust me on this..... I will never cave dive because of this channel lol

@Doesn't Jump to conclusions lol

Read up on psychopathy and other reference materials on criminal psychopathy

This guy needs much more attention he is always interactive with his community as well!
