I cant imagine being Brandens parents on the phone with him as he makes sounds of distress followed by completely disappearing. I would never be able to get over that as a mom, so disturbing
@@Janellabelle Yeah it's horrible! It might have been a dangerous person just waiting for anyone to walk down that path.. for whatever reason and suddenly attacked? We will probably never know for sure
He probably fell. He walked right off some sort of a cliff or into a ravine. Wasn’t an animal or person attack or you would have heard the animal and him struggling. Heading “oh shit” is the kind of thing you would hear as someone stumbles and falls off something. The fall then either killed him or knocked him unconscious and he died later
Storytelling like this is a lost art - I NEVER thought I could listen to someone tell a story for 15 to 30 minutes and KEEP my attention - yet I have watched LOTS of videos for the last SEVERAL WEEKS and have enjoyed EVERY one of them !?!?! What a pleasant surprise that I am actually enjoying a lost art - excellent work , Mr. Ballen - bravo !!
Why do you think it's a lost art, out of curiosity? Storytelling is a near-daily part of my job, to be honest, and it's something I've worked to improve and expand over the last twelve years. I only discovered MrBallen's channel a couple weeks ago, but it's made me think I should start a YT channel of my own. I love telling stories; I also love writing them, though I wouldn't presume to put my own work into the sorts of storytelling videos I have considered creating. Public storytelling--especially of MrBallen's level of quality--is a serious rarity, I'll grant, but that's about changes in socialization styles, the ubiquity of screens and the internet, the decrease in the number of close friends the average person has, the decreased time people spend with their families, and a lack of community bonds (possible a lack of serviceable venues...like neighborhood pubs, eg.) Thankfully, YT is catalyzing a spoken-word revolution the same way Gutenberg catalyzed a written-word revolution.
Even watching the same ones when there are other stories out there I haven't heard. They just can't hold my attention. Especially if I'm down in the dumps. I can only listen to mr ballen to keep my attention
This isn't a lost art because it's not art. He's not creating these stories. He's basically reading Unsolved Mysteries episodes orally. These are all rea newsl stories.
Yeah I was like that's stupid then at the exact same moment my mind flashed with them being distraught. Then having their child go missing to not even have his body found no closure. Forever wondering where is my baby boy is he alive is he ok is he afraid can he ever come back home. Probably dying still wondering where is my child which just breaks my heart. I think about my son and what I would do to someone or something that ever took my boy. The endless obsession of trying to discover where he is or what happened.
I think it's because he doesn't try to be spooky about it, he's casual but still keeps the mood and just overall very genuine about it, something about that is very charming
Brandon's case is actually why you don't have to wait to report adults missing nowadays. They had trouble getting police to respond initially and had officers been out there, it's possible he could have been found.
In Germany, they mostly don't even accept a missing child report if the kid is a teenager. When my eldest son was gone when only 11 years old, the police automatically supposed he had run off because of some quarrel at home. They also asked me whether my son was somehow disabled, because then they would have searched. Only after I threatened them to report their passivity when an 11 year old child goes missing, and that I would inform media right away also, did they slooowly move on to have two cops actively search for my son.
True but for the cases that happened in the late 90’s I can personally vouch that it was “a different time”. Looking back, I probably couldn’t gone missing easily at least a dozen times because if friends leaving/not knowing where their friends are as I leave a bar.
One of my buddies drunkenly out of just complete frustration left a bar one night. I walked with him trying to get him to calm down. A police officer was no help when I tried to ask for a lil. He'd rather take us to the station. 8 miles we walked. Hearing all this and all the back roads we were in that night. Makes me wonder if I hadn't....
I frequently leave friends and they frequently leave me when we are hanging out or out drinking. Part of our rules is if no one is going to be DD then no one drives to the club/bar/etc but other than that we are grown men, not eachothers baby sitters
He has professional relaxation. He valuably is clear and distinct with direct narration, but he doesn’t skip words and have larger words to include them, he doesn’t have complete objective and formal words, he tells the stories like an experience which is very intelligent.
@TiddyBlaster Alright kid, don’t see you having a successful AF platform that’s grown faster than almost any other UA-cam channel in history. Let us know when you have more than family following you. With a name like that, I doubt they even do it by choice.
Brian's Dad, who had lost his wife and then his son....was killed 2 years after his son vanished when a tree fell on him outside his home. The whole story of this family is so heartbreaking.
A story that mirrors Brandons: Years ago I had my drink spiked. I was a few hundred miles away from home. I was walking in a field, seeing lights ahead of me and in my mind I was walking towards a place back home. Visually it was that place. I called my parents and they were so convinced I was at this location they were out looking for me. I was pleading at one point - asking why they weren't picking me up. Of course - I was walking in a field and later a village several hundred miles away. I don't know what I was spiked with but it was weird. Had something happened to me, like Brandon, the police would have been looking back home and NOT at the other end of the country. They would have said 'he sounded sobre' on the phone. scary.
How in the world has this comment not gained more attention? This sounds almost exactly like Brandon’s and is very disturbing and puzzling. I feel like if someone could figure out what you were spiked with, it might solve Brandon’s case. He probably was spiked with the same thing, didn’t realize it and didn’t feel he was spiked at all, and his story went into mysterious legend. And, most likely, it would seem like the lights might have just been something emitting light from somewhere that seemed much more stronger because of you all be spiked and in your case, you survived, but in Brandon’s, it was probably a car hit him and whoever did, probably just hide it up so well that it looked like he just disappeared for good. I mean, like another comment on here said, saying “oh s**t” is the type of thing that someone would say if they were hit by a car.
I've had my drinks spiked on 3 occasions, I've never remotely appeared anything close to sober. I'm 52 now and don't go out anymore, but I find it hard to believe anyone could sound sober, although I suppose it would depend what your drin ws spiked with, but in all cases I was more out of it, as confirmed by friend, than I ever recall I was with being drunk. Those around you may have a different recollection of your appearance than you did 😉

The strangest thing about Brandon's case to me is he gave his parents directions to "where he was", how could he have done that if he was nowhere in the area? The idea that he could have been so disoriented that he had completely gone the wrong direction but at the same time had the certainity and clarity to relay proper directions to where he thought he was is baffling. And then the fact that they never even found his car.
I think its a simple case of Brandon thinking he knows where he is but he is actually lost without realising it. Gave the correct directions, just to the wrong place. Left his car, either ran into someone or something in the road or simply fell in a ditch whilst walking towards some random lights he sees.

@@googleuser9383 it's logical...it's mostly emotional but it's logical too. If on the off chance he does return home, the light is a way for his family to show him they haven't forgotten about him. That would be a comforting thought for him when he got there. Makes perfect logical sense to me.
my son used to drive nights, and would call me at 2a and we'd chat. Before that, he started work at 7a, and he'd come over for breakfast every morning before work at 6a weekdays. He was killed in 2016. To this DAY I leave the phone on at night for his call, and wake up at 2a. I also wake up at 6 and unlock the door. I know he's not ever coming back, it just makes me feel he's not forgotten.
The last one with Brian reminds me of another case where the victim is seen on video entering a hotel but never seen leaving. She was murdered in one of the rooms, put in a suitcase and wheeled out of the hotel 2 days later. He may have left the bar, but not by walking out the door.
I've thought this too, if there was construction in the 2nd exit, I imagine it possible to have stuck his body in some kind if storage trunk or similar where tools are kept on another day, maybe they didn't tie that to him? So sad.
@sonyakunkle It's the only thing that makes reasonable sense. He didn't just turn invisible or dissolve into the air. There have been other cases that are similar where people are seen entering but never exiting. They've always been killed where they entered and taken out under cover.
What I took away from Brandon Swanson's story is stay with the car. Not very exciting, but just get comfortable until the sun comes up. Even though the time of year was mild, it's a good idea to always have at least a jug of water and a blanket (along with a first aid kit) in your car. Since I have bouts of hypoglycemia from time to time, albeit rarely, I'll keep little nonperishable snacks. Things happen in broad daylight too, but being bored in your car overnight sounds preferable to being disappeared.
but being in that car in the middle of nowhere is daunting, any bear or crazy person around is gonna be drawn to it. Theres something in our dna that tells up to keep moving towards where you think the right way is so i can see why he did it. Also heard a theory: it was a suicide/faked death because witnesses say he wasnt drunk, he knew he was 25 miles away from the town he sent his parents to to look for him (pretended to be lost there), he cut the phone off himself suddenly after saying "oh shit", you would have heard a car, animal attack wouldnt have cut the phone off like that, a sneak attack he wouldnt seen it to say 'oh shit', if he fell into a river theyd find him, no cliffs or hills or bears in that part of minnesota someone who lives there told me. Unless he fell into a big hole that nobody else looked down and you cant hear his voice from inside it I think hes set that scenario up
@@ljs185 Unlikely. If he set it up, wouldn't he _want_ his body to be found since he'd be going through all that trouble for the attention? They'd probably of found him by now if it was self inflicted
Yeah a few years ago a snowstorm trapped a bunch of people on the highway- they removed people who needed meds or stuff like. That first and the rest had to wait overnight. Strangers open3d their homes to people stuck. That’s advice I’ll always take after seeing that. Anything that can will right? safe travels :)
@@ljs185 you wouldn't necessarily have heard a car, I don't know why everyone keeps saying that. There's a lot of reasons you wouldn't have heard a car if he got hit by one. Phone quality, connection quality, ambient noise, etc. You people gotta think more instead of defaulting to the more dramatic or mysterious answer. Life is boring most of the time.
About Brandon. Walking through bushes at night is very dangerous. My immediate thought was he fell into a ravine that was hidden by bushes. In fact there was a river nearby, so he could have fallen in. They have looked in the river several times over the years, but no body has been found. I feel sorry for his family. It must have been terrible for them.
I think too it’s a tragic accident. Maybe he tried to reach those lights, started running in the dark in a field and fell into something. He was heard saying “oh shit” that would make sense. My grand father told me how he once almost got “swallowed” by a large unnoticeable patch of mud while walking in a field. He told me if his brother had not been here to help him, he would have disappeared in the ground buried in that mud and no one would never have guessed what happened to him. My dad is a farmer and also have a couple of stories about rescuing cows or sheeps getting half buried in mud. Clear water gives back bodies but heavy mud wouldn’t, after it get dry you can stay in there forever.
This isn't the first time I've heard the story about Brandon. But this time listening through it, it strikes me that he likely got hit by an asshole drunk driver or someone who really didn't want to get caught for manslaughter for accidentally hitting a person, they probably panicked, and made him disappear. That's the best I can surmise... he said 'oh shit,' which is exactly the kind of thing that you say when you're about to get hit by a car.
His parents would have heard the car over the phone. Did some research and his car was found near Yellow Medicine River and people theorize he either fell in there or some other hole. Without knowing his exact position when he disappeared it's hard to find out
@@c_hasting0341 03 interesting. Fair point... Falling into a river definitely lines up with saying 'oh shit.' Now, did they ever find his phone? Or even like to try to pinpoint a last known location for him based off of cell phone tower data... I guess it might not be so helpful if there weren't very many towers back then, which there probably weren't.
@@gabelincoln3608 I'm not sure exactly what sort of motivation they would have to kidnap a 19-year-old college kid, though. Like, he didn't exactly look wealthy or anything. They found his car. I'm not sure why they would kidnap a grown man. Which is partly why I think that maybe somebody hid his body after accidentally causing his death. I just feel like they would have found him, otherwise. If you think about it though, this possibility isn't all that different from being kidnapped. Just somehow still more fucked up lol I actually think it's much more likely that the other commenter above is probably onto something with saying that he fell into a river, near where his car was found. Although I still think it's strange that his body was never spewed out.

Things like this terrify me. I get paranoid that one day I'm going to see something spooky and fuck off into the middle of the woods never to be seen again.
I've seen these search and rescue beacons for sale, they like ping your location 24/7 so that other people can find you in case of emergency, there is one you can wear around your neck, others can be attached to equipment or backpack. Get yourself some protection if you ever consider hiking ALONE in the woods.

The more undramatic the narration is, the more chilling it is, try Curious World for the ultimate in cool, well researched presentation ; very, very creepy.
The second story sounds like he had a psychotic break, I’ve read about these things happening - people appear completely normal, live life normally, then one day just ran away and disappear. There’s a story about a girl whom her parents said she was acting completely normal then disappeared one day only to be discovered years later still wearing the same clothes she left in (all tattered and beaten up ofc) and later they found out she had late stage schizophrenia and lived on the street and forests the whole time she was gone. I’m wondering if that happened to him and maybe he was just never found again. The psych book opened up may explain he was trying to look up his own symptoms but as he was reading his schizophrenia really kicked in and he ran away. Marilyn Monroe and her own mother suffered from the same condition and both were late stage too not showing signs until late into adulthood
I don’t know if it was schizophrenia but theres this other girl who was found dead floating in the ocean who went missing and was living on the streets i think? I think she was a teacher and one day just wandered off. Very sad
I was thinking that but who put the fish in his bed? Either he did it to himself and didn’t remember or someone was messing with him. I wonder if someone was cruelly “pranking” him making him doubt his sanity/safety to the point that he ran away and didn’t look back. He was in college and a frat guy after all, I wonder if it was some sort of hazing gone wrong. I also thought it was interesting he lived in “fisher hall” and there was a dead fish. And the hall used to be an insane asylum. I feel like either he was influenced and triggered by those facts or someone was messing with him due to those circumstances.

I can say that the story about the guy who disappeared from Fisher Hall is 100% true, the only detail that was left out was that he left his lit cigarette smoldering in the ash tray when he dissapeared. There were always loud crashing noises in the halls and all over the building. My mom went to Miami in the early 70s. As a result of this guy going missing, and all the rumors and other stories of hauntings, the university turned Fisher hall into a class room building because they determined that it wasn't safe to use it as a dorm. But there was so much noise in the building, just weird, generally loud noises, crashes and banging, that classes couldn't be conducted. So then they turned it into the theater building. My mom spent time there when it was the theater. On opening night, if the play was good, the lights on the 4th floor all turned on...the 4th floor no longer had electricity. And my mom actually saw Colonel Fisher one night walk into the costuming room and not walk back out. Colonel Fisher showed up in the wardrobe rooms a lot. Quite a few people saw him. There were also rumors that Fisher Hall had been part of the Underground Railroad and was connected by underground tunnel to The Pines Hall. The Pines was also extremely haunted. It was a women's dorm and my mom lived there. One night she was in the basement doing her laundry and found what was believed to have been that tunnel, she opened a door and it was all completely caved in with dirt and earth. Another time, she and her friend who lived across the hall went to the RA and complained about the people living on the top floor. They were always walking around all night, heavy footsteps, banging, thunking, what sounded like moving furniture all night. They were told by the RA that no one lived upstairs. My mom and her friend didnt believe her because the noise was keeping them up at nigh. So the RA unlocked a door and showed them up to the top floor. It was one giant open room that ran the entire length if the building. There was nothing up there. No walls, no furniture, nothing but a heavy layer of undisturbed dust on the floor. No foot prints, no one living there. That's when the RA explained that The Pines was also haunted, really haunted. My mom's boyfriend at the time, who was local, confirmed all of these rumors for her. Including a few other things that happened in Fisher Hall and The Pines.

It stopped right in front of her face, fell to the floor and spun in a circle without breaking. My mom yelled at the ghost to stop, then she went out into the hall and proceeded to freak out a bit. Visiting my Dad in Becker, I was at my friends house. (Equivalent to a short Mpls block.) It was dark & I could easily see my Dads house. Problem was I could NOT see the road. I had to keep trying to feel the road. Took at least 20 min to make the 90 second walk. Mpls is lit 24/7.
@@mgbsecteacher never lived in Minnesota by live in Mason City Iowa it's liketwo hours and fifteen to 2 hours and 35 minutes away from Minnesota that's to the twin cities roughly from my town of Mason City. I used to go up there all the time and just travel around and I had a lot of friends that were up there that lived in Minnesota. Used to go even further about 5 hours up for some reason I can't think of the name but it's a short name and it starts with a c. It's like 31 sea level right there on the left side of the great lakes. When I had a license and could drive I was a little reckless so that's why I don't have one now. But I went everywhere.
I live 20 miles from Canby (across the border into South Dakota). What a lot of commenters on here don't know is that in rural Minnesota in this area, there is literally towns every 10-20 miles. Check google maps for this area. Is it darker than it would be if you are near a major city? Sure. But we still have enough light pollution that you can't see many stars in the sky at night. The area this kid went missing in is far from remote, though it is mostly farmland. What really hurt the chances of finding him right away is that he was confused as to where he was at. He told his parents he was near Lynd. If you look at the map, this really doesn't make sense as to why he thought this was where he was at, unless he had really been driving way out of his way back to Marshall. The last ping on the cell towers showed him near Porter, which is just 10 miles south east of Canby, this is where they found his car. Lynd on the other hand, is 50 miles from Canby and slightly south west of Marshall. There were many searches, including using dogs and they did indicate they caught his sent near the Yellow Medicine river. It is very possible he fell into the river and drowned, though its a bit odd they never recovered his body despite extensive searching of the river. His parents did note that he said he wasn't walking on the road and had gone under fences, this area is all rural farmland and its possible he fell into an old well. Some areas closer to where I live also have some what marshy land and sinkholes. While not here in abundance like other areas, its not uncommon to have mountain lion sightings in the area as well. Other than that, the biggest predators we have in abundance are coyotes, would would certainly scavenge a body if they found it.

I've watched all of your videos in reverse, newest to oldest, and in all of then, your story telling is just the same. This channel is AMAZING . I'm so glad I found it 2 months ago!!!
It'll keep haunting me and thinking about what the hell on earth, Brandon Swanson saw during his last moments. What only I can say is that Brandon didn't screamed in horror but only said "Oh, Sh*t !" in distress which means the thing was no alien (at least for him) he knew it and just wasn't expecting it to be there and at the same time knew the encounter is fatal ! Stay in peace Brandon (wherever you are ?) 🥶🙏
@purpleclique I'd say something along the lines of"oh my fucking Gid help me" something that caused me intense fear. "Holy shit" isn't it. I agree with what the OP said. Definitely something familiar but he realized "Oh fuck" for whatever reason he's now missing 😢
Brain might indeed be still inside the bar, since there's the other story of the guy that fell in between the wall and fridges, only to be found a decade later when the market was closing down.
i was in a car accident where i definitely should have died, and that's what i screamed a split second before the accident. i think it's probably a pretty common saying in those moments lol
I feel like Mr. Ballen should do a video on the movie Missing 411 instead of the books. I'm sure it'd be a pretty long video for us fans who want much longer stories and videos to listen to.
For some reason he said that he either couldn’t or wouldn’t do anymore videos on the Missing 411 anymore. I believe if I’m not mistaken it was something about people felt that he was trying to make gain off of other people’s misery and misfortune or something like that. Idk if that’s true or not because I saw someone else say that, but he said so himself that he wasn’t going to do any 411 videos anymore sadly. But he said that he is going to do some videos just like those though.
Have you toured the Shanghai tunnels in Portland? They might be in other west coast cities, too. I'm thinking possibly San Francisco. I checked them out once in Portland, pretty interesting.
I know of a case only a few years ago where a little girl went missing just vanishes. What happened is there had been rain and she stepped inyo a puddle that was actually an overflowing manhole. She was sucked under and died instantly. They found her a week later. Thats what the first story reminds me of
Thank you for sharing Brian's story. I live in Columbus, Ohio. There is still a billboard with his picture a couple of miles from my house. He is two years younger than I am. I was spending a lot of time on Campus around the same time he went missing. Some people believe his body is somewhere in the area of the construction at the time. Some say he just took off and is living another life. Either way it is really sad. I hope his friends and family are able to figure out what happened. It seems like many people have gone missing on OSU's campus but he is the only that hasn't been found.
lynngroll1 I scrolled three times by flicking my finger randomly three times and arrived here to say God Loves You Much Love and May Jesus Christ Warm Your Heart
Usually, I don’t read comments while Mr. Ballen is narrating stories, neither after I go to the next video. I don’t comment either, only focused in the narration or driving, doing other chores that not require full attention. Often, if some gets close to me and suddenly says something I jump because I am fully connected with the narration & and imagine the full scene on my mind. His channel is addictive!
If he died inside the ugly tuna, I'm thinking he was carried out in trash bags... a bar employee carrying trash bags out of the bar and towards the dumpsters past closing time wouldn't raise too many suspicion. Maybe the bartender or one of the other staff was secretly a serial killer or psychopath, and ended up befriending him, invited him to a private or staff-only area without witnesses or cameras asked him to stay and talk past closing time, maybe offered some free drinks, then attacked him once everyone else had left.
Being from Ohio it terrifies me how many Ohio stories you have shared. I'm a grown ass woman and a mother, now I have to run up the stairs at night with the lights on and jump into bed even if my husband's in it or sleep downstairs with all the lights on and curtains drawn. Brian was supposed to fly to Miami with his gf that Monday after his disappearance. When he didn't show up at the airport his gf and family knew he had to have met with some level of foul play. He had been looking forward to that trip for a long time. The trip was a Christmas gift from his mother who had recently passed.
If you look at a map around Marshall, MN. The roads are laid out on a grid system. Tauton is off Route 68 and northwest of Marshall and Lynd is off Highway 23 and southwest of Marshall. The interesting thing about the first story is that in order to get from a location near Route 68 to Lynd using the BACK ROADS....one would have had to cross Route 19 which is the ONLY major road between Route 68 and Route 23. It is like a dividing line that is unmistakable. If one is NORTH of 19 they would be closer to Tauton, Ghent, Minneota, etc. If they were SOUTH of Route 19 they would be closer to Lynd. I understand how someone could become turned around driving around in the dark in the Midwest....but....how did Brandon NOT know whether or not he had crossed Route 19? Drunk, sober, or otherwise...
Douglas Warden- that's interesting, I wish someone would cover this case and go in depth with visuals of the land and roads surrounding both areas, accident site and where the parents searched.
If his car was ever found, id be curious what your take on it is of where his car was found, and where his parents were. UPDATE - his cell phone records showed he had been near Porter, 25 miles (40 km) from where Swanson had said he was, in a different direction. That information led to the discovery of his car, near Taunton
Concerning the last college student to go missing at "The Ugly Tuna", was there any fresh cement, ductwork, or openings to sewers in the construction area? Was there an outside opening to a cellar on the outside of the building that was outside the scope of the cameras? And were there any large containers moved out of there that could have contained his body, before the bar was searched? Any windows, in an area that wasn't in a public area, that would open? Have those two girls been talked to concerning his going missing and what they discussed?
(MY COMMENT PERTAINS TO THE “BRANDON SWANSON” STORY. Brandon wasn’t even close, to Lind. ) Shortly after midnight on May 14, 2008, Brandon Swanson (born January 30, 1989) of Marshall, Minnesota, United States, drove his car into a ditch on his way home from celebrating the end of the spring semester with fellow students from Minnesota West Community and Technical College's Canby campus. Uninjured, he got out and called his parents on his cellphone. Unsure of his exact location, he told them he believed he was near Lynd, and they drove out to pick him up; however they were unable to locate him. Swanson remained on the phone with them until he went silent 47 minutes later after exclaiming "Oh, shit!" He has not been seen or heard from since. In the morning, his parents reported Swanson missing to police, who advised them to wait as such behavior was not uncommon for young men his age. Later that day, the circumstances of his disappearance became more complicated when his cell phone records showed he had been near Porter, 25 miles (40 km) from where Swanson had said he was, in a different direction. That information led to the discovery of his car, near Taunton. It is not known whether Swanson was aware of this discrepancy when he talked to his parents. Foul play has not been ruled out, but it has also been proposed that he might have accidentally fallen into the Yellow Medicine River, near where his car was found, and drowned. although extensive searches have not found a body. Land searches, with dogs, have continued in the area for several years. His parents successfully lobbied the state legislature to pass Brandon's Law, which requires that police begin investigations of missing adults promptly.
He may have had a ' bump on the head' that was more traumatic than he thought. Head injuries are weird, and he may have gotten dizzy or disoriented and fallen in the river. Generally, though, water gives it's victims back, and Brandon's body has never been recovered.
Hum... looking at a map, adding up the minutes Brandon Swanson was on phone w Dad and folks walking speed about 5mph. Brandon walked about eight to nine miles. He had to be off the highway on a side road. The small towns are about five miles apart on the highways traveling east and west bound. He left Canby around midnight and it was around 2am when he called his parents. This means Brandon was lost, driving on the back roads for about two hours before calling parents. Then walking at five mph for 45 minutes adds up to approximately nine miles as the crow flies. If his car was, say, between Taunton and Porter, he had to arrive to one of these towns within nine miles. The Yellow Medicine River crosses hwy 68 between Porter and Taunton. The towns are less than nine miles between each other on hwy 68. So, we see there is a nine mile radius from the car. If he was on a back road and walking, if its shorter to cut across the prairie, then he was walking in the fields not on the main road, slowing him down. Its flat prairie land with woods around the rivers. Its a clearing where he called from because he could see town lights, at least five miles away. The layout of the land is noted in the Laura Ingalls Little House books. During the homestead days of author, the area lacked the woods needed to build homes to homestead. As a alternative, homes were created by digging out a cave in the ground, on the side of a steep hill, possibly near a river or creek. It could be when Brandon was walking, supposedly near Yellow Medicine River he could have fallen into an old abandoned homestead dugout, appearing as though the ground swallowed him up. If water was collecting in dugout for years, water could create a deep crevice inside. Its possible Brandon fell into one of these old dugouts. If Brandon was not a drinker, and the alcohol made him slightly ill, he was lost for two hours which made him think he was near Lynd. Many of the side roads result into dead ends. Brandon may have stumbled into a collapsed dugout roof near the river bank Brandon's body may be buried near the river. More questions need answers. Such as walking for 45 minutes and not arriving at a town. His last words of exclamation could indicate the realization the town he presumed as Lynd was not Lynd but another town and he was traveling the wrong way. This is my take on the story. oops, goofed on walking distance. Still, he should have arrived in a town within 45 minutes.
I was in graduate school when Brian disappeared. I remember thinking that he probably ended up getting attacked by somebody who worked at the bar or similar. I don’t think they’ll ever find his body and it’s too bad that his parents have passed away.
Brian is in a wall dead. Make it simple and you’ll have ur answer. He’s buried inside the bar of course. What kind of construction was going on. Hmmm curious that construction was going on and no sign of Brian ever leaving. Brian will be found during renovations or the destruction of that building. I’m sure of it.
@@Jorendo Construction Areas are closed off to the general public. Plastic hanging every where to keep the mess out of the establishment. Wouldn't take long to stick him between a couple of studs, cover him in lime, then seal up the wall. And for good measure you put in a few more extra sheets, so it doesn't look suspicious. 1 piece of drywall, somebody's going to notice. 3 or 4 new pieces drywall, won't think anything of it. It really is quite simple you know. And it wouldn't be the first time bodies have been pulled out of walls.
@@jad43701 Yeah but construction normally doesn't happen when the place is open for business. They tend to do that when the place is closed. Atleast in my country, maybe it's different over there. Most of the times when bodies are put in walls, this is done when there is no one else around. In this case it seems like it was a open night, people were at the place. Unless the construction area was completely out of sight i find it very weird how he would be able to end up in there without anyone noticing. Again, if it's normal over there that people do construction in bars during openings hours then i get it that it doesn't look suspecious if people are "working" on the wall, but if it's not normal either at those hours (and honestly, this was in the middle of the night i really doubt people would be working on construction then) then i guess it's less suspecious.
@@Jorendo It is fairly common to have work being done after hours. Or during hours depending on the business. You see signs reading "Excuse our mess while we remodel to serve you better" Or some version there of. Only have to hide the body till the place clears out, then get to work. Take a couple hours at most. My brother-in-law hangs sheet rock for a living, and I have watched him work.
I remember back when Brandon went missing. Our community was really diligent in their searching, and you could see his missing person poster everywhere. We still dont know where he is or where he ended up. Even to this day there are tips sent to the sheriff's office about what people could recall about that night. Saddest part is from where his car was, if he was headed on roads to Taunton it shouldn't have taken him more than 20 minuets to walk into town.
@maryanne7161 Oh lord. This is what I get for trying to type out names on a dang phone! I can't believe it messed up that badly. Thank you pointing that out!
My theories. 1. Brandon fell into a hole or small sinkhole that has not yet been discovered. 2. Ronald heard or saw a ghost since the place was considered haunted and he felt like it chased him down the street, so he wanted to get on the bus. 3. First of all, the Ugly Tuna should not have had the second exit blocked. That is a fire hazard and quite possibly against the law. Secondly, I'm not convinced the back door was completely inaccessible. Do we know if this door was closer to the direction of his apartment? If he'd been in the Ugly Tuna many times, knew about the door, and frequently used it, he might have still used it if it was the one he was used to taking when he left that place. Strange, though, that no other cameras picked him up. We would need to see the location of all the cameras reviewed to compare it to the route he would have taken if he did leave via the back door and went in the direction of his apartment. It's possible that was a gap in surveillance. That said, I'm sure the authorities did their job (but you never know...) If he did really disappeared inside the Ugly Tuna, I'm guessing it was a slip into an alternate timeline. All of these are very, very strange and heartbreaking. I hope at least a couple of these eventually get solved...
How about the guy who went missing ten years earlier being found behind a freezer where he worked at the supermarket? I could never understand how nobody would have tried to find out where that awful smell would have been coming from.
Because it was probably thought to be inside the mechanics of the freezer like an old fish fell through and it would have cleaned outside after fungi ate it so no need to dismantle it .

Brandon’s story is so baffling and chilling, there’s so many possibilities, did he walk up into something he wasn’t supposed to see? Was he attacked by an animal? Was he hit by a car and his body hidden by the driver? Whatever happened, the incident caused his phone to disconnect somehow because he had no reason to hang up on his dad. His parents leaving the porch light on for him is heartbreaking, they couldn’t see each others lights that night so they leave the porch light to guide him home.
My first thought is he walked into a harvester, or other farming machine. He was in farm country. Lots of lights on those machines. They're also huge. Probably wasn't anything left to find.
@@elaexplorer lol I mean, that would be like walking into a jet engine and not hearing it. I can't even think how this would be any kind of a possibility
I’m convinced Brandon fell down an old well or root cellar on that stretch of farmland he was walking through. Lots of old homesteads, no longer standing, had these wells and root cellars that eventually become overgrown and easy to fall into. He was probably seriously injured or killed by the fall and wasn’t able to call for help.
I remember when Brandon Swanson went missing. Missing cases are just heartbreaking for families. You know they never ever quit looking, forever expecting to see them or to find out what happened.
Mrballen has to have the biggest channel, for the short amount of time he's been on UA-cam, that I've ever seen to date. It's actually mind blowing. Respect man.
This is not true. I had a channel that achieved 10 million subscribers in less than a month, but UA-cam deleted it at the request of the International Freemasonry Office located in Copenhagen.
I love this channel. Love the support in the comments. Genuine and wholesome. What a great community. Nothing vulgar. No slurs. Just amazing storytelling!
Brian's disappearance has always baffled me!! The fact that there are so many business on campus that have cameras including a few traffic cams, and they say there's no other video of him outside of Ugly Tuna is mind boggling!
We must assume that either he left the bar alive and kicking or he didn't. We must also conclude that either he got accosted or he didn't. If he got accosted and didn't leave the bar, then the staff were in on it, or at least 1 or some of them and they would have killed him. They would have had a few hours window to dispose of his body, and there was an exit not covered by CCTV. It seems really unrealistic. If he didn't get accosted, then he's still in that bar. Very unlikely because if he somehow found himself into an inescapable crawl space, there would be some stench after a few days. So we can almost rule this one out entirely. It also just seems the least realistic. If he got accosted and did leave the bar, he somehow managed to evade the cameras, perhaps via a blindspot. The story is always told like this would have been impossible, but it really could be that the cameras LOS had blind spots and that is how he got out. Once out at 2am in the morning (or later) on the streets alone, it's anyone's guess what could have happened to him. Again we are reminded of all these additional cameras not picking him up, but again there could have been blind spots or parts of the route not covered by cameras and he got attacked. Perhaps even robbed or something more sinister. Personally I think he did make it out of that bar and got attacked on the street in his drunken state with poor judgement.
@@blahdiblah2169 I don't remember where I read this but allegedly there is CCTV footage that has never been released, and people are curious as to why especially with how long it's been. I am very very familiar with the area. It is always busy especially when the college is in, if he made it out alive I'm almost certain someone would have reported seeing him. Not only that but again like i stated in original comment, there are so mamy business and traffic cams he would have certainly been picked up on one of them if not more.
@@pinkdiamond1942 I was watching another vid on this, and one big clue is that, only Clint says he remembers him go back into the bar after he was talking to those girls. To the side it seems like there was a door leading to the construction site. That door was out of any cameras view and he could have accessed that. It seems most likely considering that the bar was on the first floor and the most obvious and natural exit was down escalators and he clearly didn't go down that way. The building actually had 4 emergency exits on the back, so it's likely he could have taken one of those. I cannot say if there were cameras on the back, but in the guys walk around it didn't seem like that was the case. So that's how he could have got out. It was also the detective working the case's initial instinct that he got out that way. If it was a cover up with that construction site, then the property owner or construction company would have wanted to avoid a lawsuit for not securing the site correctly. That's also entirely possible. I would believe this before I believe he got killed in the bar, and the bar staff were hiding this.
@@blahdiblah2169 I think your theory of nit leaving the bar alive is very valid. With no reports of him being seen outside on cameras or other people it seems to be the most likely scenario. In 2014 Kosta Karageorge, another student went missing and was found in a dumpster in the general area. If i remember correctly it was determined to be a suicide (which was odd because he was in the dumpster). When I heard of this incident I thought about Brian's disappearance. Not the suicide part, because IMO Brian didn't disappear willingly, but the part of being in the dumpster.
@@pinkdiamond1942 You make a good point. If he was in a dumpster (which seems very likely considering no body was ever found), then it's also highly likely his body is decomposing in a landfill somewhere never to be found. It's not unheard of and bodies are regularly found in landfills. Would also like to add that when questioned, the police are always going to give the impression they did a stellar job and gave it their best efforts, but there's no way of knowing this. Certain cases do receive their due attention, while other cases are ridden with negligent, lazy and lackluster investigations. We were told that all the CCTV footage from various buildings were reviewed but it's also possible that detectives didn't sit through hours of footage or may have missed that 20-30 seconds of screen time when indeed he was on camera. Remember we're talking about perhaps dozens of businesses in that area and to review all that footage even if we were considering just an hour period, could take 12-24 hours of watching to turn up anything. It could be they just glanced over it without actually really checking each and every minute as if it was their own son.
You remind me my grandmother telling me real life event and scary stories she heard when she was a child.🤭 Thank you for sharing yours and now I really love to hear your stories and by the way that picture behind you is just beautiful.
Great stories as always! I think Brandon walked himself right off a cliff while he was stumbling around in the dark. It was sudden so either that or he ran into a bear, if there are bears in the region. Or maybe hit by a car. But I think they'd see signs of that. Poor kid. I think Ronald had a psychotic episode and probably died of exposure or some accident incurred while running away from his invisible attacker. It's weird that he would be reading a psychology book when he had already dropped the class. But it's a good clue as to his state of mind. I think Brian met with foul play while in the club and was kept there after closing, then removed from the building via some sort of box or something. That one is a tricky one. That back exit where construction was going on still seems viable also. As per Fire Codes, that exit would not have been blocked so he could have gone out that way himself or taken out by someone else. I feel like something was overlooked in this particular investigation. Or the police are not letting out some details.
I can't speak for the other two stories, but as for Brandon in the first one, Minnesota is pretty flat. No cliffs here unless you're near the Mississippi river valley. Where he was is no where near there. It's flatlands, hills at most. Also, bears are in northern Minnesota, more near the Canadian border. Huge distance. It's a higher likelihood he ran across someone out in the middle of nowhere who would do him harm before running into a bear. Lived here my whole life. I like your theories though. Makes Minnesota sound a helluva lot more exciting than whatever sad reality happened to that poor young man.
I don't really see the psychology book as a red flag. He was obviously interested in the subject enough to take it in the first place and we don't know why he dropped it (the class, not the book) 😂. Perhaps his workload was too much? Perhaps he couldn't afford the tuition? Maybe he just didn't have time, or needed to take a different course for his desired career/further education path and so had to drop the one he took just because it interested him? He may even have just been flipping through the book to see whether it was in good enough condition to donate or sell as he would no longer need it? There are probably a million reasons he could have been reading it, not least of all just because he was enjoying it? We'll never know unfortunately. I definitely agree about the last guy though - if he went in and didn't come back out again then there is only one explanation...he was in no fit state to walk out. Either they stashed him somewhere, moved him and dumped him where he wouldn't be found or he is still in there. In the walls or under the floor. I wonder whether they would be able to get a warrant to dig up the place based solely on the fact that he didn't leave the bar? Seems shakey at best to me. Maybe they took cadaver dogs in?
@@Littlewings1211 the psychology book reading is a huge sign he was having a mental break, listen to the woman whose door he ran up to, thats a dude whose on his way to killing himself, someone else or dying of exposure. Clearly was seeing things in his head too poor fellow
It sounds like they all ‘disappeared’ into an alternate universe/dimension. The first story, when the guy says he’s walking toward lights, perhaps the lights of a spaceship or a town in another time and realizes this and says ‘oh shit’. My heart breaks for his parents. I’ve read a lot of books about inter dimensional universes. It is quite possible that is what happened.
I've actually thought the something similar... that they're all victims of a quantum leap, or walked into some sort of invisible doorway into a parallel universe, or, a completely far-fetched idea, that something happened in the world that altered reality & now all three missing people have become part of the Mandela Effect.
I tend to agree that the " dimension slip" theory is a distinct possibility. I also believe that it happens more often than the general population knows. Some people have told of encounters where they slip into another realm and are fortunate enough to return. I think that this could be a potentially terrifying occurrence and I hope to never have this sort of experience, especially when alone.
@@ravenesence8141 The short of readjustment of the timeline that you mention would be awful to experience. @@kylewalker5770 Yes , if a locations' place name contains words like "devil" , "dead", "danger" , etc I take it seriously and avoid said locations. In addition to those marked location , I think that there are less defined "dimension slips" as well. I love the fact you don't use overwhelming dark and eerie background music to induce the emotional atmosphere artificially. Great choice. You're an amazing storyteller... a dark bard :D
When i watched this i wasnt expecting the first story to involve the town i currently live in- So chilling even in small towns, stuff like this could happen 😨
Regarding Brian: seems like a bar might have a lot of large, industrial-sized containers and that would hold a body. Someone could have killed him and stuffed him into a barrel. Also, a place like that would probably have bootlegging tunnels that might even connect to a river. Easy to dump a barrel that way.
While this is technically possible, it leads to the question of "why". Killing someone in a crowded area, doing it quietly, and stuffing/hiding the body and running it through tunnels to dump gangland style requires pretty meticulous planning and a lot of effort. For a college kid that didn't seem to be involved in anything? Especially since it seemed to attract more attention to the bar, which would be exactly the opposite of what such a thorough and "clean" killer would want.
Funny how UA-cam comments throw very ordinary opinions around Like Sherlock never thinking the police who has been on the case for years and years might have had the same idea
@@cwallcw I agree. Maybe he died in some way that made them liable to be sued for a large amount by his parents, so so avoid that outcome, they hid his body and then disposed of it or there was a secret criminal network working in the bar who targeted him and sold his body to black market organ harvesters.
It could be something else but it sounds like Ron possibly suddenly began having symptoms of schizophrenia. It is most common in college age men, and it can be an incredibly sudden change.
Dead fish in and under the bed is a common prank with the end goal being that it goes unnoticed and they either sleep with it and wake up wreaking of fish or it begins rotting under the bed. They're college kids in Ohio not mobsters after all😂😂😂😂
I missed that one. Was it the 2and story where this occurred? (I'm too lazy to go through the video...sorry!) I don't think that was a threat anyway; it's just a stinky prank. But wow, what a bizarre scenario! I wonder if he was reading the psychology book because he believed that he was going insane? Maybe something left over from the insane asylum scared him; possibly a spirit that wasn't at rest? This is the most bizarre of the 3 cases, at least to me.
I've studied the Brandon Swanson story a fair amount. His dad, who was" on the phone with him, said that it sounded like he fell when he said "oh shit", but the phone didn't disconnect, Brandon just wasn't on the line anymore. Also, he always took the main roads to travel, but this time he took the backroads, and likely just got himself lost, which is why he didn't know where he was. He's probably in a hole somewhere, some random old well or something. And it sounds like Ronald Tammen had a psychotic break. He'll reappear somewhere in a mental hospital when he regains his memory.
The story of the guy who called his parents to try to tell them where he was but who was apparently nowhere near where he told them he was is one of the strangest stories I have ever heard. Hard to understand how he could be so turned around and equally hard to understand why he was never found even if he was at a town different from the one where he thought he was. And I keep wondering what he could possibly have seen that made him shout "oh s***!" I think if we knew all the strange things that are lurking out there in the shadows we would all hide under our beds and never come out. I have always thought that just because we don't see something does not mean it isn't there and just because we don't understand how something could happen does not mean it cannot happen. So do I need to speak to a therapist?
Unlikely to be an attack because it’s incredibly difficult to attack someone in a way that neither them or you make any noise. Most likely scenario is a fall off something. It was dark, he was distracted by talking, and probably walked right off a cliff or into a ravine where he died on impact. Then either his body was scavenged on or was just in a spot not visible to any passwrby’s
If he was walking on the side of the road, maybe he got ran over by a car, then instead of calling the police maybe the driver took his body and hid it far away from where he was hit. That’s probably not what happened but that’s what I thought.
It sounds to me like when Brian shouted Oh s@#$ he heard or saw a car coming directly at him and had no where to get out of harms way. So my theory is that he was hit and or seriously injured by a drunk driver alone or possibly with ppl. They must have panicked and realized they will go to jail for years for killing a person while driving drunk, so maybe they meaning driver and equally drunk and panicked passengers put Brian in the trunk and dumped his body elsewhere. People sadly nowadays have no dignity no concious they are me me me first. Especially the kids growing up now. They all feel entitled. Think they are owed something. But do nothing. So just my opinion and if you think about it, it is a plausible scenario. I wonder if anyone else thought this or agrees with me now. Would love to hear from you.
@@plops993 this could be the case but idk it doesn't make alot of sense to me perse if he was hit the phone would have been possibly destroyed tire Mark's something should have been there somewhere near the cellphone signal or last signal the one thing that does add to your theory is lights if you're going towards lights you wouldn't realize anything was amiss till it was to late but something should have been left especially if he was moved or hit something fell out of his pockets anything not entirely impossible that he could have just gone missing from being snatched from someone out in the middle of nowhere

Brandon's case is actually why you don't have to wait to report adults missing nowadays. They had trouble getting police to respond initially and had officers been out there, it's possible he could have been found.
Hello do you believe in Jesus?
That is not true.
In most states you STILL have to wait 24 hrs before they'll initiate an actual investigation. It varies by state.
@lisasternenkind6467 Was he OK?
Shocking that the police didn't want to look. Are they lazy or some other reason?
I'm always taken aback by the amount of "friends" who just leave someone somewhere without having any clue of if they are alright.
True but for the cases that happened in the late 90’s I can personally vouch that it was “a different time”. Looking back, I probably couldn’t gone missing easily at least a dozen times because if friends leaving/not knowing where their friends are as I leave a bar.
We all just assume our friends went off to get laid or something. We are not eachothers babysitters, lol.

A story that mirrors Brandons:
Years ago I had my drink spiked. They would have said 'he sounded sobre' on the phone. scary.
Sounds like someone putting g datura in people's fast food around mountains. Sounds similar to trip reports of it.

I seriously don’t understand why Police or parents or whomever don’t contact psychics they could find out what the story was in five minutes.
The car was found the next day. In that other town 25 miles from where he thought he was and that's where his phone pinged.
I think its a simple case of Brandon thinking he knows where he is but he is actually lost without realising it. Gave the correct directions, just to the wrong place. The last one with Brian reminds me of another case where the victim is seen on video entering a hotel but never seen leaving. She was murdered in one of the rooms, put in a suitcase and wheeled out of the hotel 2 days later. He may have left the bar, but not by walking out the door.
I was wondering that too. Maybe someone killed him and smuggled him out piece by inconspicuous piece.
Youuuuuu have a point
I've thought this too, if there was construction in the 2nd exit, I imagine it possible to have stuck his body in some kind if storage trunk or similar where tools are kept on another day, maybe they didn't tie that to him? So sad.
That's what I was thinking. He was killed in the bar, then brought out under cover in whole (or not whole).
I just feel like they would have found him, otherwise. If you think about it though, this possibility isn't all that different from being kidnapped. Just somehow still more fucked up lol
I actually think it's much more likely that the other commenter above is probably onto something with saying that he fell into a river, near where his car was found. Although I still think it's strange that his body was never spewed out.
He got taken by men in black and his body got dissected by aliens, the father would of heard a car wreck on the phone

Wish it were socially acceptable to wear armor wherever you go, for that exact reason.
Stay out of the woods, or if you do go bring protection 💁♂️
I've seen these search and rescue beacons for sale, they like ping your location 24/7 so that other people can find you in case of emergency, there is one you can wear around your neck, others can be attached to equipment or backpack. Get yourself some protection if you ever consider hiking ALONE in the woods.

You seem like such a chill and relaxed dude especially for being in the special forces. Such a bad ass!!
What puzzles me is if no one ever seen him again how do we know about any sound in the hall or wherever. 🤔
I worked with the criminally illl. Saw one break..it was bad..he went on to be a MONSTER...walked FREELY until he attacked a woman and stabbed her 37 times

Every time I hear this story that's where my mind goes. maybe he accessed an area he wasn't supposed and somewhere people didn't think to look. Or like @T. Skin maybe someone got him out in a very obscure way after they killed him.
I feel like Thomas thought he was losing his mind about whatever he was seeing/hallucinating and tried to figure something out in the psychology text book
Yeah, sounds like paranoia. Could be why he wanted to get tested, and didn't want it from anyone on campus.
My suggestion may sound heartless but…. drugs involved maybe?
Good point. And I'm thinking the third guy, Brian, was murdered. Whoever did it might have been an employee of the bar and could have disposed of his body without being caught on camera - delivery truck etc

I lost my dad to a myocardial infarction when I was a freshman in medical school. It was unexpected, as he was only 56. It only strengthened my resolve to help families avoid similar fates, so it made me buckle down and study even harder in medical school.

She'd reach for it and realize it had been moved. (Pretty standard stuff, I've lived in many haunted places or worked in haunted offices where this would happen.) One incident she had was pretty crazy though. The ghost got mad about something and lobbed a full sized glass vase at my mom's head. It stopped right in front of her face, fell to the floor and spun in a circle without breaking. My mom yelled at the ghost to stop, then she went out into the hall and proceeded to freak out a bit. That was in The Pines.

Something that is so annoyingly common with stories like these is the missing person's friends assuming nothing is wrong and that their friend has gone home and then going home themselves and doing nothing.

Brian probably died inside the Ugly Tuna. Has there ever been a thorough search, including of the walls?
Yep
If he died inside the ugly tuna, I'm thinking he was carried out in trash bags... a bar employee carrying trash bags out of the bar and towards the dumpsters past closing time wouldn't raise too many suspicion. Maybe the bartender or one of the other staff was secretly a serial killer or psychopath, and ended up befriending him, invited him to a private or staff-only area without witnesses or cameras asked him to stay and talk past closing time, maybe offered some free drinks, then attacked him once everyone else had left.

Was his car ever found?

If his car was ever found, id be curious what your take on it is of where his car was found, and where his parents were. UPDATE - his cell phone records showed he had been near Porter, 25 miles (40 km) from where Swanson had said he was, in a different direction. That information led to the discovery of his car, near Taunton
Ooof that last sentence about the porch light.
They make their own tuna...in big vats with sharp cutters and machines...he got merked and sold in sandwiches that week with onions.
(MY COMMENT PERTAINS TO THE “BRANDON SWANSON” STORY. Brandon wasn’t even close, to Lind. )
Shortly after midnight on May 14, 2008, Brandon Swanson (born January 30, 1989) of Marshall, Minnesota, United States, drove his car into a ditch on his way home from celebrating the end of the spring semester with fellow students from Minnesota West Community and Technical College's Canby campus.
Brandon's Law needs to be nationwide.
Hum... looking at a map, adding up the minutes Brandon Swanson was on phone w Dad and folks walking speed about 5mph.

We still dont know where he is or where he ended up. Even to this day there are tips sent to the sheriff's office about what people could recall about that night. Saddest part is from where his car was, if he was headed on roads to Taunton it shouldn't have taken him more than 20 minuets to walk into town.
*Brandon

Where is the trace there could be a trace there are cameras all over
My same thought. And maybe even dissolved, Breaking Bad style. I’d be doing a deep dive into the bar staff, owners, etc.

Maybe. But where'd he go???
Was there any follow up to the fish found in the sheets? That screams 'threat' to me.
The "fish threat ' a la
" Lu c a Brasi sleeps with the fishes" ? 😯😲
Stephanie Baker Apparently he was walking around town in the snow, shoeless!!
I think you confuse a horse head with fish.
When Brandon Swanson Said "Oh Shit" He Probably Saw A UFO And Got Abducted
He probably immediately put his phone on hold/mute
It's alians!!!
