I love this! Why does this instantly make me cry? One of my first times in SF my boyfriend and I rented Tales of the City at Superstar Video in the Castro and then while looking at CDs over at Medium Rare Records we saw Armistead Maupin in the store. We were so excited but too shy to say hello and tell him we had his story right there in our hands.
If there was one thing that Armistead Maupin had in common with UK Writers like Allan Sillitoe (Saturday Night & Sunday Morning), Helen Fielding (Bridget Jones Diary) Candace Bushnell (Tales Of The City), was that their stories were serialized. In his Book Full Circle, Edward `Ned` Brummel hears about it while working in a Medical Office that were helping Vietnam Veterans of which he was one. It was the 1970`s and PTSD was not yet recognized.
I have seen every single episode of the series , you have to watch the old series in order to understand the new 2019 reboot it all ties in its amazing
Where can I watch it?? I just finished the 2019 series and I loovveedd it!! Please tell me where to watch the old series I wanna watch it as I'm very sad that this series ended.
I really wanted to watch Mr Maupin's bio on PBS's Independent Lens but the overly conservative KERA in Dallas only played the first 30 minutes and PBS doesn't even have the full episode on any PBS market on streaming media. Is there any other place it's available?
It was rather funny when Olympia Dukakis said she wanted to meet a transsexual so she could get a feel for her part in Tales of the City, so she meets this 6'3" she-man person that arrives at her door and she was stunned. It's funny because I knew a transsexual exactly like that and that's how people reacted to her. They would stare and gasp or snicker when they saw her, then take a few steps back. Though you've never been around someone who was so bitter and angry in your entire life, especially if someone dared to call her a man like Olympia first called this person.

The group reading of "Mouse's Letter to Mama" should be required viewing at every high school and college.

Laura Linney was spot on, T of T C is a series which you can dip into at any stage of your life and you will find something to connect with.
Can't wait to see this. I feel such love for Armistead - as if he were a patron saint.
Oh god Michael, bet you were drinking when you wrote that!
