Great video! Some additional points which some may find useful. 1) Be careful hitting the reso head with the tip of the stick, especially under tension. It can dent the head. Flicking the head with the side of your index finger works just as well, without the risk of damage. 2) Use two drumkeys, at opposite ends, and turn them together. This ensures the head stays level as it is tightened. 3) A moongel which touches the head but also rests up against the drum ring will offer more dampening than one which sits only against the drumhead.
I Really like high tunning, I have a Ludwig super sensitive snare 5x14, the bottom head that I like to use it's the Evans hazy 300 with almost 400 Hz of tunning (pretty tight) , and on the top head almost 360 Hz, use your snare with any kind of tunning, but do it right having the same tension in each lug.
Totally get where you are coming from. For the sound I’m going for if it’s lower than 380hz on reso it lacks the “bite” I want with the snare to have. but I’m glad that you have certain frequencies that you like. 👍 thanks for watching
I've been using a stick on the reso side to tune since the mid 80's. I've yet to ever put a divot, scratch or even a slight mark. If you damage it, you're simply hitting it too hard which is not required when tuning the bottom head.

Heck yes, I love tuning videos!
Thank you so much 😊
I have my DW 6.5x14 so tweaked it sounds great with the strainer off! I actually prefer the snares off on it
I understand what you mean, I most often prefer the sound with the snares off
Followed this video and it’s the best my BB has ever sounded. Thanks for sharing.
So glad to hear!!
Sounds great, Ryan. Thanks for the tutorial!
You are very welcome! Thank you for watching
Great sound, great tunning technique.
Thank you so much! 😊 I really appreciate your kind words
Sick Video Ryan
Thank you very much! Please share this with anyone who you think would get value from it.
found it! thanks man
That’s great to hear! Enjoy
I spaced out for a few seconds and Ryan started sounding like Kermit the frog...
Great video Ryan. Do you know what would be the best tuning for supraphonic 14x5?
Thanks so much! Honestly I’d try the exact same settings! Some additional ones you can try bottom lug 398hz top 235hz with one moongel
@@Theryanprim thanks Ryan! Will try it and i’ll send you a demo on IG!

400hz in Most cases chokes too much. The feel suffers i find.I Like 330-360hz Reso Tunings with all my snares😊

In my experience as someone who hovers around 400mhz, I only get choking when I over tension my snare wires.
Using a stick on the reso head (snare) is a really bad idea, you are damaging the head as it’s super thin. Use a mallet! Thanks for the video ;)
