While these aren’t for me, I appreciate a drum company stepping outside of the box to offer something unique. We have way too many drum companies who don’t even make their own shells and are just trying to sound like everybody else. It seems like the guys at A&F are passionate about their product and I respect that!
Russell Moss A&F yo! For $5k ... well.. they sound like $5k. MASSIVE! I remember the first time I heard a set on a Sweetwater vid. Fuck. I actually really like those hats with that kit. I’m sure some K dark action would go well with them as much as the big ass hard rock sort of thing most ppl would go with likely (the kit has a massive John Bonham sort of thing going on)
it's almost hard to focus on the hats because the drums are SO SO intensely good, that my ears are just constantly buzzing "omg those drums!". But the hats are definitely cool! I wish they'd make a bunch of the square cymbals for people to be able to hear them before ordering them. As it is now it seems it's only custom orders, and so a bit of blind fate. There aren't even many recordings fo their square crashes, to use as reference. But i played one recently and it was tremendous. Should have just bought it on the spot.
This wasn’t really mentioned, (and the guys almost seemed a bit bummed out because the gear was so different) but I thought the sounds of those instruments brought out a unique, even more creative side to all of their playing styles. I thought it was some of the best drumming I’ve seen from those guys and it’s almost like they didn’t notice it. I thought they made the gear sound great.
These hats almost sound like a tightly closed stack when closed, definitely interesting and cool to see companies stepping out of the box! Also, hearing “what the f*** are these drums?!” was hilarious to hear as it caught me so off guard since it was exactly what everyone was thinking but I doubt anyone thought y’all would actually say it! Props to y’all for putting yourselves out there with this cutting edge content, so cool to see the newest stuff the industry has to offer!
For my setup, I couldn't imagine that Hats. But I think it's so important that there're sound pioneers like Sabian and A&F who are always innovating. That hats sounds really amazing!
I think the drums sound perfectly with these cymbals. It has this vintageish sound that matches the beautiful sandy wash of the cymbals, they also have a pronounced chick sound that makes them very musical. The drums sound really light. I absolutely loved them. I hope you guys keep a sample in the store for people to try them out! Again another awesome video!
Those hats are fascinating-almost a fuller, darker sound than those fashionable ‘Swiss cheese’ hats that I’m curious about but won’t buy. I’d consider a pair of these for special projects, solo stuff, recording, or those late-night stoned practice sessions (which I NEVER do ... EVER!). These are similar to Tibetan religious cymbals. Also: TERRY BOZZIO could do some damage with these hats!
*A & F Drums are seriously old school!* Center-pivoted tube lugs were used a lot at the dawn of the trap kit; A & F has revived this kinematic, using tenor-/bass-style wood hoops and lug claws across the kit. As for the subcontract cymbals, the ANKH hats are apparently derivatives of the SABIAN® 1nn20XBT HHX® Banda Turca hand cymbals, while the suspended is a descendant of the Rocktagon™.
Man, that bass drum...the whole kit for that matter was outstanding. I like how A&F does things differently (and excellently). The cymbals definitely work with that kit. They wouldn't be my everyday cymbal set but so what...it's nice to have options. Naturally, if you want a cymbal with a straight edge, you have to choose Sabian (remember the Rocktagon?) :) Anyway, excellent video from DCP. Keep it weird, musical, and exceptional, Rami!
I tried these out at the DCP Anniversary event, definitely sound better mic’d up. Very unusual sound, a bit clank-y but that is common with brass cymbals. I can say they are high quality instruments without a doubt, both Sabian and A&F wouldn’t compromise on that aspect. As was said, they ain’t for everybody, but if you like unusual sound on your kit, these might just fit the bill.
I am intrigued by those hats. Curious what would happen if a metal drummer got a hold of them. Slightly open, slightly tilted bottom hat, nylon tip 5b stick and blast beats. Could be cool. By the way, kit sounds great! Love the room sound. And the kick is boss.
So... Not a huge fan of the cymbals. Interesting, for sure, but not my cup of tea. But, to echo almost everyone here: THAT KIT. Dear heavens, that kit is amazing...
Love the drum kit. Funky 'old time' looks and very warm sound. The brass high hats..not so much. Not enough 'wash' and 'carry' to suit my taste but I could see those in an 'auxiliary' role where alternate sound hats might be needed. The sound reminds me of low-end brass cymbals although certainly these are highly crafted instruments.
These Hihats sound so great. They have character, body, flair, invite to use them. The whole setup looks like it was for the dunno 30s, but the sound overall is fat and rich in all sorts of noises. I love it. I would even take that square ride/crash/whatsoever. Fantastic setup.
This kit is warm, projects & has a wonderful classic sound. However, Johnny Rabb, AA Meinl Safari hats. Been there before as well as the ride. UFIP & Sabian tried this before with Terry Bozzio late 80's. Nothing new per musically sounding. Something for everyone. 👍
I like how you can ride off of the bell with the hi hat. I wouldn't mind adding a third pair of these hi hat's using my Gibraltar 9707ML-UA hi hat stand. Sounds like a good idea.
wow! i love the drums and cymbals- i realize they're not for everyone but, jeez louise, they're for me... i could see that drumming alchemist jay bellarose spinning these into gold on his next recording...thank-you shane and dcp staff for being so cool and cutting edge...i love the videos...
Ah dammit. Good point. I remember the sound of the crap I had. Although, these are probably much louder and don't bend like those. Maybe not worth the $700 but still useful.
They are hand hammered, so that will add to the price, but they are made out of brass, and they don't sound particularly good. Not very versatile, they do make a cool sound, but $700 for them is way too extreme.
Seems the 14's could sit well in lots of applications, the 16s need a little more breathing room no doubt. The kits sound will make you write a bad check on the spot....that 26 is sweet even without a sub.
At first they sounded very Terry Bozzio to me. WHICH IS NOOOOOOOT GOOD. Then they sounded jazzy dry... But with the drumkit and the square RIDE? They sound very suitable for electronic settings or music.
Alessandro Gambino Well said! And absolute perfect review of Terry Bozzio. Though some might hate on me for this statement...Terry is an absolute World Class Percussionist (Yes I said Percussionist, not Drummer-And I Stand By That!), it seems as though he’s become a parody of himself. It’s all about how many ‘Chings’, ‘Dings’, ‘Whooshes’, ‘Splashes’, and ‘Crashes’ he can make in an awkwardly outward non-rhythmic, rhythmic setting!
Loved the warmth of all of them; preferred the 1st and 3rd sets, though. The "ride" has a place in a some of the music I play. Blown away by the drums, too!! Been a fan of A & F for only a short time (pretty much since I learned of them), but would LOVE a kit. If I had a "large" chunk of cash sitting around, these would be at or near the top of my list. All things said, this drums/cymbal combination would sound great in Americana music (think T-Bone Burnett type), some red-dirt country, some current worship, etc. Thanks for the opportunity to listen and learn!
I like the sound of this kit. Wish I could try it! It certainly appeals to a specific kind of taste but thats what I like about them. They aren't trying to compete with the other brand name kits. The cymbals are just as unique too. Overall a very distinct set up! Show me more!
The drums sound awesome and I love the ride. I'm not sure about the hi hats but I guess it would depend on the genre I was playing. I do oldly like them
wow the kit has an incredible lively sound and that snare! amazing! i wonder what it would sound like mixing normal hats with those hats to take you somewhere in between?
I was more overwhelmed by the drums!! They sound fantastic! Yes, the cymbals are esoteric. They're dry, and that works for certain songs. Crashing the square Ride cymbal let out a very sweet WASH of frequencies that sounded awesome to my ears! I would like to hear more from this company. I'm very intrigued! They sound incredible when you're playing with a set of drums as beautiful sounding as this set was! Honestly, I'm more sold on these Drums than I am on the cymbals!!
Just want to mention that I enjoy Tom's feel and touch very much.. A real drum center run by real drummers.. imagine that.. feels like Frank Ippolito's back in the day in New York City.. visiting you soon :)
My opinion is that the drums sound REALLY good!! The brass hats, not for me. The bronze hats could find a place as an aux hat, particularly if mounted on a remote pedal to access the open bell!!
I could see using these as an aux hi hat and having a myriad of sound choices. I usually write this off as some hipster bullshit, but A&F are actually pretty genuine in what they do and it's certainly appreciated.
well we can just use that hihat as additional hi hat or as stack/effect cymbal tho it sounds like like a stack of a china + thin crash with weird sustain of a dry ride
This question must be the bane of your existence but what method did you adjust your kick with and what's the batter head? I already knew I wanted to put a fiberskyn resonant on my 28" (x 14" not 12") but idk if I should stick to the powerstroke batter or switch to whatever you're using!
Great stuff guys ! The sound of all those hats is definitely unique. And that crash/ ride looks and sounds wild. I bought a secondhand drum kit last week to fix up for myself . What if Tony Williams used to play this hats, many players would not doubt to get a pair. The sounds, like colors, are like language. Music don't care about anything but the listener and the player, sometimes, luckly, is the same person.

Dude, be honest, this hi-hat sounds like it was used to record St Anger
Marek Baran I personally really like the sound. It just needs to find a place.
@@owenbangs3684 maybe the tops for two trash cans?
It was Sabian who made these cymbals, not the drum company.
Screw the cymbals, those drums sound fantastic.

No kidding, Russell! Those drums sound incredibly fantastic! They overshadow the cymbals on display!
Yeah I've never heard a more perfect drum sound. They'd be great for any rock or jazz.

That's my rule for cymbals. If it's good buy the fucker NOW! Because you might never find it again.
Omg. That snare is so amazing, i did not hear better snare sound for a while
The whole kit just sounds utterly ridiculous. I am in love!
@@James_Farmer yeah, it really sound diferent then any other drums

Reminds me of traditional Chinese cymbals.
I dig the mid 1800’s vibe these drums exude.
For my setup, I couldn't imagine that Hats. But I think it's so important that there're sound pioneers like Sabian and A&F who are always innovating. That hats sounds really amazing!

This clip again shows the exceptional sound quality of the A&F snaredrums! The really stand out, what an incredible woody ringy fat sound they have😍😍😍
The setup in the first demo is everything I want in life. In love with the cymbals (and the shells too)!
I am intrigued by those hats. Curious what would happen if a metal drummer got a hold of them. Slightly open, slightly tilted bottom hat, nylon tip 5b stick and blast beats. Could be cool.

Thanks so much Glenn and yes, they record beautifully!
All drummers here are terrific! I’ll stop by your shop on one of my frequent jaunts up I-95 to MAINE.

Hells yea ..!!! I would buy all theses
The cymbals are growing on me, but those drums are awesome. They have such a controlled punchy and yet deep bass at the same time. Love those things.
They sound like my first drum kits stock cymbals
$700 for a pair of hats that sound just like stock cymbals from a cheap beginner drum set? No, thanks.

Exactly. Zildjian planet Z beginner brass cymbals sound better than these. Who is this for exactly?
That’s the new thing make cymbals look good and sound like shit and up charge for a fad lol
the sound of this snare is the best that ive ever heard in my entire life
I think the guys who play Latin / Brazilian music would love these cymbals !

the drums are amazing. not too thrilled about those hats...would love to have that Levon Helm kit though...
One of the best drum sounds I’ve heard. Love the hats too
Perfect auxiliary hats to me. "Stack" effects, so much to explore! Impressed.
That is a lot of amazingness. The hats, the ride and the drums plus the first staff demo was over the top amazing af

These are for me and I have some of the 14 inch brass on the way from my dealer here in australia...So stoked!
Everything really sounds amazing and very original. I can see the use for all of this, for sure
I Can imagine these hats in some classic American music, folk, blues, rock music context. And those drums as well. Sweeeeeet

You can hear the cymbals at minute 02:25 .
I like the last ones best.
I totally agree with you 👌

Those hat's really has a crispy sound which I like...drums are freaking amazing 🔥
well we can just use that hihat as additional hi hat or as stack/effect cymbal tho it sounds like like a stack of a china + thin crash with weird sustain of a dry ride
What microphone is used on the snare?
I would use them all in a lot of situations! I think they're great. And that drum set is killer!
I don't know about the cymbals but those drums kick ass!!!

14" not 12") but idk if I should stick to the powerstroke batter or switch to whatever you're using!
Drums are phenomenal.
Hats are for certain niche, but nice to hear the variation.
Excellent pairing! Those cymbals perfectly complemented the drums. Very nice video and a lovely eargasm! ;-)
Imagining those 16" bronze hats working beautifully behind female voice. Every pop / rock recording studio should have a pair. Spectacular.
Didnt like the hats. BUT - wow, loved the kit!
Great stuff guys !

Great video guys. Love it ! 👍👍
I read on my local music store website, that apparently these hats are sold as singles. Which means it’s about a thousand dollars for the set. I’m not sure if you’re supposed to just buy one and replace your existing hi hat top or bottom, but if that’s true, that’s pretty expensive. Either way it is a neat company, just a bit expensive.
When all the weirdos come together n create beautiful universe... I would like to try some Led Zep no with this set up
Nice big open snare! i like it! the whole set up! reminds me of Robert plant and alison Krauss album...

Holy god of thunder , that bass drum!!! How did you tune it?
TBH, we didn't have to do much to it. Reso fairly tight, batter just past wrinkles. I don't think there was any muffling, either.
What mics are you guys using on the kick drum?? It sounds amazing!
that kit sound tho
The hats on my kit are 14” 602’s... Couldn’t be much more different. What is that square ride cymbal???
Just saw the explanation.
Love that last one tho! It's like a drier version of the Paiste Dark Crisp hi hats i use. Awesome!

It goes without saying the kit sounds great. The hybrid looking pair sounded ok, not to fond of the other.
Chris dave will absolutely love these

That, and our recording room is anything but soundproof!
Totally like the hats and crash/ride for techno/DrumN’Bass… sad they are not available in Europe yet
… even more impressed by the drums!!!! 🔥🔥🔥
They're interesting but the bell takes up too much real estate where I like to hit off a relatively flat surface. Look very cool though
Really dig it all. The square ride especially!
The pop on that snare is unbelievable! Where can I get one and what is it??
It's in the description
@@drumcenternh yes of course, silly me. I realized that about ten seconds after I asked! Thanks!
