Mike's one of the best human beings out there. He's down to Earth. He connects with people. This is really neat to see and hear. The mechanics of motion is what he is talking about. Wonderful insight here in spades.
Greatest teacher ever...Seriously he was born to teach and he was born to play, one of the all time greats...I hope he goes back to Berklee if that is what he wants....
"Speed is a result of motion in time" This young chap seems to know all about distance over time, I wonder if he will end up using this concept in his career some day
This is a perfect example of the fastest musician not being what the gig needs. He is amazing but so is Portnoy - 2 very different approaches. I’ve been in positions where I had to try out musicians and 9/10 times it wasn’t the fastest drummer or shredder that I ended up going with. It’s all about fitting in with the rest of the guys (musically and chemistry wise), and serving the music… unless you’re doing speed metal, there are not too many opportunities to use that sort of speed in a musical context.
Well said about death metal. It is art and music as it is speed. Whacha callit in English, Blastbeat?🎶 kotkotkotkotkotkotkot Oh Im 2 minutes in so gonna watch the whole video now. Thank bro and keep the wrists loose :D Oh and these guys who teach, and in Berklee the holy site of music schools. it's same like in martial arts, they say when you teach, you learn yourself so much more. You know what I mean.
Now I realize I m playing with hands not with sticks .on the pad electronic and I find out that I made the best loop dance and liked from other people because it s easy relax fast and infact I realize too that they hired me years ago as percussionist
Shit spewing trolls everywhere now, jealous losers with no life or talent. Mangini is a beast and if they knew anything about music they wouldn't trash him.
And because of the triggering, you get a sound that is derivative and that has no uniqueness to it across the different death metal bands.Whereas when I was younger and when thrash/death/speed metal was way new, you knew Gene Hogan, Dave Lombardo, Glen Evans, Charlie Benante, etc.....
Speed is not that important. Imagination and conceptual continuity and personal style are essential. Drummers who concentrate only on speed are just plain boring!

So, friendship is not important, what is important is to work with the best until the end of your life.
