    I mean he's just had a meteoric rise. This time last year he was barely over 2700, and even as late as November he was 2713 and nr 30 in the world. That is not exactly a position to get top invitations and these tournaments are obviously planned months in advance.
    But now that he's absolutely crushed the last 7 months and risen to nr 4 in the world he is 100% gonna get top level invitation, but how was tournament organizers going to predict that he was suddenly going to jump 65 points in 6 months? This whole debate is just people being impatient and looking for drama.

    People who enjoy being upset think tournament invites are done a few weeks before the tournanents. They are not.

    India already had 3 players in the top 10, so you can’t invite all of them. But Arjun should get done invites. The other two Indians, Gugesh and Pragg are top stars.

      I don’t hear the same argument being made for American players though - they have 3 in the top 10 as well but Wesley gets enough invites despite Caruana and Nakamura. I understand it’s also about a long term brand, but surely there’s something wrong with the system if the world #4 is having trouble getting invites despite going crazy at age 21

      @@Hriday-qr9hl Arjun's rise has been insanely fast. The invitations will catch up. Arjun was rated below Gukseh and Prag for most of the last year.

    Would be interested to hear Fabi's comments re the Hans $1 million buy in tournament falling through. Niemann claimed that some participants may have been getting covered financially by the organiser...

    Why Giri and So get invitations? Fair play if you ask Chirilla.

      I mean they have both been consistently in and out of the top 10 for a decade and are previous candidates so yea I think is pretty fair play that they still get invitations.
      Arjun was nr 30 just 8 months ago, and officially top 10 for the first time on the April list this year and invites are decided months in advance of tournaments. Noone could predict that he would climb from 30th to 4th in 8 months.
      But now the whole world is talking about him and the invites will come for sure.

      So has been my favorite for some time, but, much like Giri, it doesn't seem if he even tries to win anymore. He seems to play strictly for draws, which means that he gets to maintain his rating in the upper echelon as long as he accepts draws. That keeps him in the main draws, but I go over his games now and they look very uninspiring. I like him for his humility, but chess-wise, the fighting spirit between him and Giri leaves a lot to be desired.

    Arjun learned from Alireza to beat lower rated guys to gain rating. He knew he would struggle to e en maintain 2750 if he joins top tournaments.

    So why mvl invited 😒 it's Just hypocrisy

    • @noone-ld7pt
      @noone-ld7pt 3 дні тому

      Just to mention a few reasons: MVL has been in and out of the top 10 for over a decade now, had a 2819 peak which is 9th highest in history, is a previous blitz world champion and candidate, and is the only one except Hikaru to beat Magnus in an SCC match and he also beat him in back to back matches in rapid.
      In comparison Arjun made top 10 for the first time in April this year. He is doing amazingly and will get lots of oportunities for it, but tournaments are planned months in advance and organizers couldn't exactly predict that he was going to jump 26 spots on the rating list in 8 months.
      And we definitely shouldn't diminsh the legacy of legends like MVL because we're impatient for Arjun to get his chance. MVL has earned his invitations with legendary performances for many years now, Arjun is now doing the same and his oportunities will come.
