Chess is still just as hard a game and if anything its humans who are becoming more intelligent and developing interest in it, Kids are just becoming smarter and we're definitely going to see GMs at the age of 11,10 in near future, Take a look at that little kid Anish solving chesss puzzles at 3 years of age, it wouldn't be a surprise If he achieves GM title at the age of 11,12. Does it mean GM title became easy to achieve? No, its because Kid developed interest in it and is smarter than others.

Even if is social versus genetic/ personality... women in general just dont seem to want to sit and think/ focus on something for hours at a time. Certain types of books may keep their attention for a while but games, podcast etc..not so much. Maybe that can be changed with a societal push?? I guess we will see.

Women have less desire to engage in dominance battles. They also have no shortage of intelligence, but appear less often at the extreme low and high ends of the intelligence spectrum, and the high end often is part of what makes world-class level chess players.

Fewer women. "Less" is used for uncountable nouns, "fewer" is used for countable ones.

This is an L take. Fabi is a top players, obviously he's going to find those commentators ridiculous when his understanding of the game is far superior. But commentators are not as good as top players.

6:10 I think Chirilă nailed it. This is the case with all sports. Commentators just spew BS is rapid succession to fill the air and make it entertaining and the audience laps it up as if they were presenting the deepest wisdom :) So ... he ended up addressing his own concern. Good job!

Global Chess League was tailored to growing the fan base. So in order to get a random person to get interested you need to be superlative. You have 15-20 seconds with most people’s attention spans to catch them. So yeah, it made sense to “sell” the moment.

Dont give the commentators engines during games.(only give them an eval bar). They always ruin the great hype of brilliant moves by player, downgrading it to ok this is the move , can he find it . Worst thing is when they hide they are using engine help for their suggestion. It makes it disgusting

To give context: I'm a casual player and only play bullet (rated 1954 on lichess atm). Zero knowledge regarding theory (openings, endgames etc). I usually find the commentators (mostly GMS) entertaining but completely useless from a chess point of view. They'll throw things like "ah ok buf if bishop c3 then rook d8" etc without explaining and without obvious (like a 2/3 moves tactic) reason. They just see things that I don't, and comment on it without trying to help me see what they see (maybe because i'd first need to learn a ton of theory...). So... Not blaming them but still: they are useless to me (and to a lot of othzr casual players I suspect).🤷‍♂️

I need commentators who are stronger than me, its enlightening. Or lower rated much then also i like it coz its funny

I can listen to fabi analyze a game for a whole day rather than people read engine moves for even just a second.
