    Excellent Dan, giving our 2 year old Cara a Puriclean this Sunday when arrive on site. Thought I’d try it once a year Max.
    (Our previous Cara Alpine2 had new 2007-19 never cleaned this way with the water always being fine and clean, clear and have always drank only its water from the taps with zero trouble. Bottled water has been clearly shown to be less healthy than our U.K. tap water so that really is a waste of money, time and environmentally damaging with its huge use of plastics! We call Evian niavE buyers!)

    Hi Dan, Great advice as always, I do exactly the same as you except that I sterilize the aquaroll and then pour it away as I do not see the need to put the water that has been in the aquaroll through the caravan water system, I simply refill the aquaroll with a fresh solution and then sterilize the caravan water system. Keep up the excellent videos.

    Most impressed by your presentation....very professionally done I thought. Big thumbs up.
    I'm not a "caravanner"...(Not a fan of them at all to be honest....Sorry. ) But I recently bought a used motor-home in the shape of a Mercedes.
    Being totally ignorant at the time (And still learning!) I filled the water tank and set off into the sunset...... 24 hours later.... I am a few toilet rolls short of a football game.
    Wow..... I have traveled the world in my years...and never suffered that much........ Delhi Belly? Yes please.... Much preferable.....It was quite traumatic!
    I tried to buy some sterilization stuff...but was greeted with blank looks. (I'm in South America) so I went route one: Bleach. Emptied the tank ...put in half a litre of bleach/Cloro .
    Filled the tank.
    Bled all the water lines: Sink. Shower. Boiler. WC..... left it 24 hours..... Then drained and refilled the tank via the same ways..... No smell of bleach. I think that has done the business.
    Fingers crossed. (I have lived here 21 years...rural..... I pump my own water....never had a problem, stomach wise....until I bought this van: Wow! Taught me a serious lesson. Be aware!)

    Dan, this is a timely video for me. The water system on our Lunar is a complete unknown (it should be fine if the condition of the rest of the caravan is anything to go by) so it would be worth sterilising the whole system just to be on the safe side. The caravan is stored at a friend's house 10 minutes away from home so I could easily do this where the caravan is.

    We are going to sterilise our water system, to avoid possible upset stomaches etc, but I haven't had a chance to research the whys and wherefores yet...now I don't have to! I was thinking 'Milton', but now I can see why not to use it. Looks like it's Puriclean for us then! Hi Dan, been watching your tips since we got our first caravan In March 2024, a baiely pegasus grande se turin. Were using it on seasonal pitch. This vid is great as we are complete noobs, and must admit, we didn't sterlise our water system. Will do now. Were in cornwall and there is quite a bit of lime scale in the kettle, which made me think the trauma boiler will need descaling at some point. Have you done a tutorial on this, if not , will you. Thanks again.

    If you have an inline water filter just make a section of pipe the same length as the filter and pop the filter out replacing with the pipe for the sterilisation process. drop it back in after. That way you can do a couple of cleans a year without having to pod out for new filters when they are still good.

    Great vid. Never understood folk who buy all the bells and whistles in a caravan then do not use them. One warden we know says there are two basic types, those who go camping/caravanning/motorhoming and campers/caravanners/motorhomers. The first group need site facilities. The second have what they need onboard. My lad works in the water industry and loves folk that use Milton, keeps him in work ;-)

    Hi Dan
    We drink water straight from tap too, as long as everything is cleansed regularly it should be fine.
    I can't believe the amount of people on our site who leave their water containers out when they are not staying in their van?
    I've seen some nasty looking algea forming in some water containers 😝
    We use the aquaroll mains adaptor and always rinse out our container and store it and the pipe inside the van when not there.
    As you say sterilize twice a year and replace filter and there's no problem.

I have a 2013 Bailey Olympus 530/4 and have been told there is no filter onboard like yours to worry about. Had to look up the MSDS sheet and from what I can tell it is basically chlorine and bicarbonate of soda. I have used chlorine and then bicarbonate of soda, the chlorine does most of the sanitizing the bicarbonate does a bit more and kills the taste of the chlorine. ALL water into our teardrop is filtered the same as our home system. With the exception that if I am concerned I add a third NBC (nuclear biological and chemical) filter.

  • @stephenhawe4331

    I have just sterilised our water system as you have advised. The only issue I came across was when I had turned on the hot side of the tap to run the water through it was piping hot! Now i had made sure the water temp was turned off and only had the warm air running as it was a pretty cold night. I have run through two barrels of clean fresh water but no more hot water coming through. Strange? Have you had any ghosts in the system or have I perhaps done something I shouldn't have? Just to be clear, ran both hot and cold water taps to start off with as usual, only the hot tank was turned off. Great vid as always.

  • @TheVolvos240
    @TheVolvos240 2 роки тому +1

    On this vblog you show the yellow drain valve in the incorrect position for filling up and also draining the system.
    To fill up make sure the valve is pushed in line with the pipes, not pointing upwards, to drain down system make sure valve is pointing upwards.
    Just a small point but important.
    Overall, impressive vblogs, thank you. 😃

      So, for a serviced pitch hose What i tend to do is fill the bath at home with Puriclean solution and dunk the hose in that, making sure there are no air gaps, its a bit difficult, but it does clean the hose. Then to wash out, I simply connect it to an external tap and run it for 10 mins.

    Hi Dan. Just got a question for you regarding the water filter. We have a Lunar Clubman SB (2012 Model Year), purchased second-hand last year. Where would I look to see if there is a filter fitted in our water system? Also we keep our van on our driveway and don't have a convenient drain to drain the water away. Any suggestions as to what to do with the 'waste' water while sterelizing and flushing through?

    Hi Dan, great vlog as always. This maybe a stupid question but, would you sterilise water system in a new van before first trip out? Just wondering if it’s a routine process by manufacturer before shipping to dealer?
    Thanks in advance, Roger

    • @TheTrudgians
      @TheTrudgians  7 років тому +1

      HI Roger, great question. Im not aware if the manufacturers or dealers would do this prior to collection of a new caravan. I think of it like this : you would always clean a brand new kettle, and boil water in it a couple of times before you drink from it - so I would assume to do the same for the caravan. After all, it wouldn't hurt to clean the pipes etc.
      Hope that helps

    Great advice. I usually do this after I arrive on site at the beginning of the season and about half way through the season too. Quick question, my "new to me" van has the same pump as yours. Does your one reach the very bottom of the aqua roll. Mine does not and I'm wondering if this is by design so it doesn't pull anything through that's settled on the bottom if the aqua roll.

    A couple of video ideas for you . Why don't you take the caravan to an empty car park and teach people how to Manoeuvre the caravan. (Over head drone shots would be amazing). Also show people how to hitch the caravan safely so they don't damage there cars. Two vital things fresh caravaners worry about. If you had a drone you could give aerial views of camp sites which would be incredible.

    Brilliant video can I ask the filter is that the one in the aqua roll or is there another?

    • @TheTrudgians
      @TheTrudgians  11 місяців тому +1

      Hi, it really depends on your caravan. The pump that submerges in the aqua roll early has a filter, but may have a gauze to prevent bits from passing into pump. However, your caravan may have an additional filter- like that shown in this video. My current van does not have any in line filters.
      Hope that helps.

    How do I sterilise the hose which I use from the tap straight to my caravan as I don’t use an aqua roll? Cheers

      Hi David. I’ve filled the bath at home in the past with the sterilising solution in it. I make sure the hose is filled with solution and I leave it to soak over night. Then run fresh water through from an external tap.

    • @TheTrudgians

      Yes, use exactly the same stuff - just don’t switch on the heating or hot water. The hot water tank and pipe work will all be sterilised.

      This will vary depending upon you particular make and model of caravan. Best to consult your manual. Alternatively, you could just trace the water lines from where the water inlet is.

    Also we have a used aqua roll, main adapter kit with food grade pipe how do we sterilise that please?

      Morning, great questions.
      We did sterilise the new caravan, because it was newly manufactured and we just wanted to remove any trace of impurities in the water system.
      as for hose (the type used for serviced pitches) and the float valve, we fill a large bucket with water with PuriClean, and submerge the hose in the solution. we tend to pour water through the hose to ensure its filled and leave it to soak, submerged in the bucket.
      Then simply run fresh water through to rinse.
      Hope that helps.

    • @SleekitWeeBeastie
      @SleekitWeeBeastie 3 роки тому

      Hello, you'll very likely find it at the end of the external pipe you put in your aqua roll/external water tank and connect to your van. It's usually the bulge at the end that goes into the aqua roll. I hope this helps.

    Hi, I need to do this to my “new to me caravan” as I don’t know when it was last done. It does have a inline filter under the sink which I will also change as I don’t know how old it is. Can I sterilise the system with the old filter in place, then put a new filter in once it’s all been sterilised? Thanks

    • @TheTrudgians
      @TheTrudgians  Рік тому +1

      Hi Andrew, yes you can. sterilise with it in place, its likly to be a charcoal filter so the sterilisation fluid will effectively destroy it - you will need to flush it a bit more than usual as you will see tiny black bits of the filter coming through. Once the new filter is in place, flush again and you will be fine.
      Dont throw the old filter away, if it is an inline one. Try your hardest to empty the filter of the inner workings to have a completely empty housing that you can fit back in place for future sterilisation of the water system.
      Hope that helps.
      Dan
