This was the most literal interpretation of this concept I’ve ever seen!!!! And can we just take a moment to acknowledge HLP for being the only one to even give the slightest consideration to MONEY while completing this project 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 Thank you Hannah, you are so inspiring and are killing it with your incredible hairdo!!!!!!
I would also love her to make a video specifically about clothing materials with examples what each of them bring to the table in terms of fashion, price as well as potential negatives of different fabric contents.
This hairstyle is so beautiful, major grown up Anne of Green Gables vibes. My one most important purchase would be Kitten Mischief from Lisa Eldridge. I’m generally a bright lipstick person but it’s just so, so pretty and easy and comfortable. I kind of bought it because I was seduced by the name but it turned into an all-time favorite
This kind of happened to me once. I had my 'best' makeup in a bag and lost it. Heartbroken at the time as there was a sentimental mirror in there. Some things I replaced exactly. I still think about it.
My mom once stayed over with a family member a few states away and left all her makeup there by accident Everything she owned was in that bag, I helped her replace most of it but I don’t think she ended up choosing the same items
@@katycat11 they were extended family members, because it was far away she assumed it would be really expensive to ship some thing kind of heavy so she didn’t bother to ask em
Definitely agree. From my perspective: Not big on makeup most days, except lip but skin care (some tinted moisturizer for events) is a top priority. AC, & no AC summer, aging, coral safe spf, active, indoor work/outdoor,walkable in city weekend lifestyle.
I had to start over from scratch before. I stopped wearing makeup for awhile and realized everything I had was expired. Throwing all of those products away, it made me rethink my approach to makeup. I have very few products now. And no longer buy things like eyeshadow, full face, or multiple pan palettes. I am so fair, I fall out of the spectrum for who these products were designed for, so I opted to do single shadows, and single pan products. Now my collection is way more curated to my skin tone and needs. I'm also able to keep up with expiration dates better, for my health too.
You've become my favorite comfort person on YT. Your voice and filming style is so relaxing to me. Truthfully, your longer explanations also help me sleep at 3 am. Hugs to you. ❤
What I feel missing from the video is the tallied total cost, maybe like a min/average/ideal collection. It'd be really fascinating to see how much it takes to basically live with or without make up. :)
A very specific version of this happened to me, I had gone on vacation and somehow managed to forget EVERYTHING except for eyeshadow due to a sick dog and frantic packing. I had no car and needed to rely on instacart to get me through in a pinch. Turns out that elf camo concealer, a cheap set of eco tools brushes, leave in conditioner, a brow pencil, mascara and toothpaste were items that I was absolutely unwilling to be without for a week.😂 Love listening to your thought processes surrounding makeup in all aspects. I’ve been following along since the no buy days, and this channel is still the one I’m most excited to keep up with.❤
Your makeup looks beautiful today! Not that it doesn't look beautiful otherwise, but I think the softer look with the more pink lip makes your skin glow. ❤
Rude that Ulta stocks all the Exa color correctors EXCEPT green! Also, you are the few creators whose thought process on a video like this is is truly practical. Loved hearing your choices!
I would def use this fictitious robbery as an opportunity to finally try Salt New York and go all in on a four pan palette. It would be a real risk-it-for-the-biscuit situation
I think my daily makeup is pretty minimal and currated at this point so I might be privileged enough (in many ways) to just repurchase everything! Salt New York small palette with N13, pearl, taupe, and ganache; charlotte tilburry berry brown mascara; some drugstore translucent face power; the elf concealer brush and brow spoolie, Nyx thick it stick it in cool brown; clio maroon brown eyeliner; and two merit lipsticks, definitely 1990 and then either fashion or tiger... It would come under $200 which isn't nothing but also isn't horrible cosnidering how much I used to spend! Thanks for this thought experiment, Hannah!
I know many others have said similar, but I appreciate the layers of consideration for this. The other videos I've seen have all been "what's my favorite and of course money is no object!" It's nice to hear a more balanced version, a realistic and grounded scenario.
I feel like I would survive a makeup loss a lot more easily than a skincare loss. The former I could whittle down to a handful of items. The latter? Yikes, that would be tough.
I am less and a minute in... and I have heard nothing because I am just mesmerized by how beautiful and radiant you look. Pregnancy suits you. You always look amazing but something has changed and this soft Hannah is just as dazzling as dazzling Hannah! Loving all your iterations! ✨
Yep! Her hair is looking extra red. Like a halo! lol I have brown hair, but when I was pregnant-ten years ago- at my temples, some of my hair started coming in red!! It was really cool and unexpected. I know she commented on her hair recently about the time of year etc…, but maybe the pregnancy added something extra! 😊
I watch this kind of video all the time and always felt incomplete because no one ever mentions the logistic side of this thought experiment. It’s all hypothetical and for fun but yours is truly dedicated and helpful if someone is looking to start their makeup kit from zero. HLP never disappoints!
Pregnancy looks so good on you! You're just glowing. I love the natural, minimal makeup today. It's also a perfect look for an example of investing in your 'complexion basket' as far as replacing your makeup goes. I agree! Great video, again! Thanks! ☺
I loved this! Most of all, I love how you take a premise and go deeper and more thoughtfully into the topic. It's like you have an unstated ethos of "do it well or not at all" and I'm 100% here for it. Thank you Hannah for all that you contribute to this space 💖
Loreal Lash Paradise would be the one product I would immediately repurchase. I have found it to be the only drugstore mascara that builds the magnitude of volume I am looking for. No other affordable mascara compares. even the Big Mood. I've run out of mine a few weeks ago, literally scraped it dry, but refuse to allow myself to repurchase until I use up a couple from my current stash. It is so good that I have lost curiosity for most high-end options out there.
it would be interesting to see this as a lived experiment like your extreme minimal closet, putting all the makeup and except for these ones awat and live with it for a while and see what you reach for after a certain amount of time... Might make a good video.
I can’t live without the Blunder Cover in shade Ein. But I love that VB pencil in bronze and the blush in miniskirt and reflect. Def recommend the latter two!
As a 40 something, East Indian with cool olive undertones, I have learned over the years that I can make most things work and nothing is gone forever, as in the trends always circle back and often in a more sophisticated way. It would be a chance to experience the makeup anew without being able to rely on my old familiars. While I would be upset about certain things being lost, more for the sentimental and knowing what you are getting than anything else, I think it’s in how you look at it.
as someone who just started watching your videos recently (albeit now religiously) and doesn't consume much other beauty content on yt, this was a whole new concept of a video to me!
I love the way you talk us through your thought process, and the way you approached this old school question. I haven't seen many videos where people really think about the logistics.
I would also immediately repurchase my merit lipsticks! Whenever I'm in an aggressive hurry - alarm didn't go off, have 15 minutes to get out of the house type of situation - I throw Tiger, 1990 or L'avenue in my bag along with my auric glow lust and the 11:11 roen quad, just in case I wanted some easy sparkle that I can fingerpaint on in the car. I am definitely an eyeshadow girlie, but there's not always time for that when you gotta be somewhere!
VB's mink lid lustre is unbelievable. I legit smeared it on with my fingers once and ran out the door for an event I was late for, and got asked by a friend where I'd had my make up done from. It's a truly flattering product.
Knowing your love for Chantecaille Elephant, I can confidently say that you would love VB Mink! It’s darker and cooler toned than TF Naked Bronze and much closer to Elephant, just with more of a punch! P.S. Can we get a hair tutorial pretty please? ♥️
The smashbox eye primer is a MUST! The only primer I’ve ever tried that keeps my shadows from creasing or fading! Perfect formula and a tube lasts forever !
this was very interesting! and just to note, you can find a lot of beauty brands, sometimes weird combinations, at various department stores. for example, Bergdorf Goodman (online) has Victoria Beckham as well as Chantecaille, Gucci, etc. on the other hand, Macy's has those Sephora-in-store sections as well as classic department store brands. so, just an FYI because i feel protective of our old school department stores- they used to be the height of aspirational beauty, and they're still a lot of more elegant than some of those beauty-only stores.
The hourglass tubing mascara, glossier brow flick and boy brow, givenchy concealer, hourglass phantom balm, givenchy tinted liquid balm, urban decay space cowboy, tom ford golden peach (on posh or ebay), Phytosurgence condensate, a merit blush or two, and I would try a new cream highlight as I’m not particularly attached to my Westman atelier. Such a fun thought experiment, honestly!
Please, oh please, find us a budget-friendly dupe for Chantecaille Elephant! I have been obsessing over it since I first saw you wear it, and just can’t justify that price.
Wonderfully thoughtful video as always! Would you perhaps be willing to do a nail video at some point, walking through your application process and where you buy your gorgeous press ons? I know you’ve mentioned a few brands and nail artists, but a dedicated video would be lovely. 😊
i guessed most of these, so i'm giving myself a loyal fan badge 😁if I lost my makeup, I'd definitely be repurchasing my weird special multichrome holo shadows and crystal shadows from glamshop. even though I rarely use them, I just love to take them out every now and then to just play with and look at them.
Yes! I do love to see these types of videos. It makes me more considerate of what I’m buying, and to remind myself of my actual favorite make up that I would have to have. Makes it easier not to splurge on something that I don’t need to spend money on.
Yay! I’m so excited that you did this video! I think these types of videos can be so thoughtful and interesting. When I am shopping (which I’m not right now since I’m on a no buy year-going well!) these videos are good to return to in order to have perspective on what makes something good long term on just what is “new”. When I’m not shopping I always enjoy people talking and loving on favorites, new and old. I feel like in terms of content for me to think about in regards to my own makeup, it’s great, and for content for me to return to when I’ve finished up a type of product and want to know what people deeply enjoy that maybe I’d like to try next, it’s also great! So anyways thanks for taking yourself by the lapels Hannah! Your thoughtful takes on these potentially more consumerist video ideas are so needed. ❤
My top item would be the rose inc concealer because like you, it's the only concealer i've ever found that actually blends into my skin tone. I use it for spot concealing too and set with a mineral foundation. Hearing you talk about the nars soft matte concealer does make me curious to try it though. Our skin colours must be pretty similar so maybe that would work for me too.
If I ever truly lost all my makeup, after I got over the screeching rage and then the mourning, I'd probably grab Salt NY Sneaky Balm in #12 plus the mauve cheek tint, TCFS Dinoplatz Escalator Mascara, Moira black cream shadow (which I also can use as a brow fill and a soft blended liner), Moira Lucent cream shadow in whatever the pale silver-khaki shade is, and then I'd absolutely lose my mind trying to narrow down lipstick choices. Etude House Dear Darling red stain is a must, but then ....??? The Carolina Herrera sheer plum balm I've been wearing constantly? Another Givenchy matte rouge? This would be painful. I NEED THEM ALL.
I would buy: •Wet and Wild glass skin correct •Cover girl stick concealer as my complexion product •the Rare Beauty mascara, probably in a mini •Kaja bento for a 1, 2, 3 punch for bronzer, blush and high light, (even tho I’ve never tried it!) •Rare Beauty lip oil in Joy And if I really felt like I had to have something for eyes, •the Colourpop Wild Nothing palette
I don't own very many high end makeup products so it wouldn't cost too much to replace my collection. I love the L'Oreal magic bb cream, L'Oreal lumi bronze for contour, Milani blushes that double as highlight, elf eyeliner, elf fill and fluff brow pencil, and L'Oreal telescopic lift mascara. For eyeshadow I have a few color pop 9 pans and a few abh. I rarely use setting powder these days because it just doesn't seem to flatter my skin texture but when I do I use Charlotte Tilberry. I really enjoyed this video and hearing how and why you replace what and when. Very interesting indeed 😊
In eye pencils, I'd have to keep the VB satin kajal in fig. It's such a versatile and understated, yet fun, colour. Another must-keep would be a Morphe grey pencil. I find it gives a softer look than black pencil, once one's on the other side of 40.
I love this! What a great question to ask yourself when decluttering ANYthing- what would I want if I had to start over, and in what order would I purchase it?... I started laughing when you held up the Elf poreless primer, because that would be my number one grab too. ❤
thoughtful as always 💜 I think I would buy an expensive red lipstick and be done for quite some time) just because it can be overwhelming and expensive to get my makeup back, plus I would need to search for things since it's not so easy to acquire them. then I'd probably get a translucent powder, some smaller eyeshadow palette with pink and purple in it, more lipstick and maybe I'll finally try a few of those indie 'chromes))
I have both Gone Greige and MOB M102 which is Jessica Haze’s signature greige shade. I prefer that because it’s such a beautiful formula. It has refillable packaging and I have a backup because I don’t want to be without it lol. ❤
Found your channel recently and have totally been bingeing your UA-cam oeuvre. I especially enjoy your fashion videos and anything thinky/philosophical. I am not really a makeup gal, and related to that I would love to see a video on: “knowing what you know now about makeup, what would you buy if you were totally new to makeup?” Thanks for all the hard work you put into your channel!
I am doing exactly this right now! Loved your ideas❤ My focus has been on buying complexion, blush and lips for high end. Chanel Le Beige & cream blush, Merit cream blush & cream bronzer,, Gucci Rouge a Levres Sheer Lipstick in The Painted Veil, Charlotte Tilbury hughlighter wand. I am actually holding myself back from buying 10 blushes…this definitely shed light on what I love to buy most!
The products I would buy immediately if I lost all of my makeup would be: NARS Soft Matte Complete Concealer in Chantilly, the Anastasia Clear Brow Gel, Hourglass Blush in the plum colored one (it's really luminous so it also highlights beautifully), Glossier Brow Pen (I think I have the blonde one), and probably the Lisa Eldridge Gloss in muse, and for mascara I can't decide if I'd go with my normal Glossier Lash Slick in black or try the Tower 28 mascara. I'm currently in the process of replacing a number of my makeup products since so many are WAY too old. So you giving this list was super helpful!
I don’t often wear makeup, or wear much, but I would need to buy 1. Any eyelash curler, I may invest in a fancy one! 2. Laura Mercier caviar stick in cocoa. 3. A Daniel Sandler watercolour blush, probably in spicy, which I would also use on my lips if needed. On the long list would be: any boldish lipstick (probably Lisa Eldridge Velvet Dragon or Cinnabar), any lengthening or perhaps tubing mascara- I’m still on the hunt for a favourite!
I’ve actually jumped from REFY brow sculpt to REFY brow tint. It’s watercolor-y and super easy to apply but still gives my wild eyebrows great hold. I look really quite a mess without my brows done so that would def be the first repurchase
Hannah, I hope you didn’t get to the end of this video and think that it wasn’t articulated clearly. I was able to follow all of your reasoning. I found your handling of the exercise as both thoughtful and intriguing. ❤️ You are the best!
If I lost all my makeup, I'd be bummed about some of the stuff that's discontinued, but the thing that would really, really be difficult to replace are my brushes. If that happened, I'd get the sonia g travel set which can do my whole face. I'd also probably replace my rituel de fille black orb and the Wayne Goss Imperial Topaz palette and that phyto surgence condensate!
Brushes would kind of be a nightmare. I've switched over to mostly Sigma brushes. Unfortunately, they don't really have a set that I love (it's like baby bear trying to find the right size bed, non of the influencer sets are quite right) and even if they did it's like $80 for a set. And I'd like to have at least 3 days worth of brushes available so that I could space out washes.
In this scenario, I think I'd want to buy from brands I've been wanting to try for a while (Phytosurgence, Salt New York, Devinah, Make Beauty, Merit, Auric), revisit at least one product I liked previously but haven't repurchased (NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer), and get some of the things I like now (various MAC and Sydney Grace single eyeshadows). The one thing that is a non-negotiable for me is eyeshadow primer -- specifically MAC's eyeshadow primer. Something you did not mention in this scenario is makeup brushes. Or did you assume only the actual makeup would go away and you'd still have all your current brushes?
For me, definitely the Victoria Beckham eyeliner in bronze. I’m trying to slow down on my use of it so it lasts until the next BF sale to repurchase and try another color.
Love that you included budgeting in this format. I don’t think I ever noticed the purchase pressure of these kind of videos til this one, where the budget part made me feel like there was non. I think my immediate repurchase would be the original version of the Auric lip mask/balm. I have several, and use it so often. Depending on my budget, I would also re-order it in the color ripe and the glow product. 🥰
My second choice would be the tinted brow gel from Anastasia. It looks like glitter in the tube, but is one of the best low key no makeup makeup brow products I have tried. I don’t have easy access to a-lot of the more independent or newer brands from the us, and I no longer have to try to get the one from Merrit or Glossier
Just watched! Hannah, the thoroughness of your thought process was so helpful. Personally, the first and most important product to replace would be N*1 de Chanel in B20. A light application has the most smoothing and brightening effect! Because I wear glasses and my lips are quite pigmented I would prioritize and could justify a pricey foundation. It’s the one product that makes the most difference.
The Lisa Eldridge liquid eyeshadow in Titania is basically the same color as the Bronze kajal liner, only more sparkly and with some more base pigment if one wants to blend it out. On me, the Tom Ford leans warm, almost a little orange, and Titania is more neutral I would say.
“I was thinking about the reality of my fake situation” SAME HANNAH, SAME
This was the most literal interpretation of this concept I’ve ever seen!!!! And can we just take a moment to acknowledge HLP for being the only one to even give the slightest consideration to MONEY while completing this project 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Thank you Hannah, you are so inspiring and are killing it with your incredible hairdo!!!!!!
Jen Luv did this recently and took pricing into consideration. You might like her video if that is what you're after. I think Sarah Rose did too.
Dropping Emily Noel's name for your reference
I'm not a make up girlie, but it's so fun to just hear your considerations. I would be SO excited to see a clothing/wardrobe version of this video!!
This is such a fun idea!
Oh yeah! Second this!!!
I would also love her to make a video specifically about clothing materials with examples what each of them bring to the table in terms of fashion, price as well as potential negatives of different fabric contents.
I love this idea! Wardrobe staples
"I just took myself by the lapels" 💀💀💀
That hair is amazingly beautiful. Makes you look like a queen!
So incredibly elegant!

@@katycat11 they were extended family members, because it was far away she assumed it would be really expensive to ship some thing kind of heavy so she didn’t bother to ask em
This was infinitely more interesting than a list of your faves. You always take us on a journey and it’s my very favorite thing 🫶
Would love a skincare routine video of this too!
Definitely agree. From my perspective: Not big on makeup most days, except lip but skin care (some tinted moisturizer for events) is a top priority. AC, & no AC summer, aging, coral safe spf, active, indoor work/outdoor,walkable in city weekend lifestyle.
I was coming over to ask for this too! 💜

Rude that Ulta stocks all the Exa color correctors EXCEPT green! Also, you are the few creators whose thought process on a video like this is is truly practical. Loved hearing your choices!
YES as a light olive i take that personally
I would def use this fictitious robbery as an opportunity to finally try Salt New York and go all in on a four pan palette. It would be a real risk-it-for-the-biscuit situation
Honestly same.
that hairdo reminds me so much of Gibson girls...lovely

We need a tutorial on this hair. Seriously love. Love! Love darling!
It’s amazing how far you’ve travelled to get to the place where you’re confident in how you’d start over.
Exa is now sold at ulta, I bough the green color corrector from their online store!
Your videos always make me feel so calm and ready to be my best self, which sounds dramatic but it's true!! You're a wonderful source of inspiration

Becca under eye brightener is something I must have. And maybe nyx epic liner and a brow pencil. Everything else is just secondary nice-to-have items!
When I think of you and your channel I think of the feeling of delicately holding a small object with long nails. It's a very particular feeling.

yay!!! I’ve requested this type of video with this specific realistic thought process in mind so I’m super happy to see it come to fruition
I thoroughly enjoyed this realistic take on what you'd get!
I'd reorder a custom Salt NY palette and get a mascara, I could live with that for a while.

I think it'd be the Purito Cica Clearing BB Cream, shade 21, hands down. Instantly makes my skin look wonderful and feels lovely.

first thing I would get is the soft butterfly kisses palette from violet voss, so good and so versatile
Yeay, a new video! 😄 i will make myself a cup of tea and cozy up in the sofa
I would buy:
•Wet and Wild glass skin correct
•Cover girl stick concealer as my complexion product
•the Rare Beauty mascara, probably in a mini
•Kaja bento for a 1, 2, 3 punch for bronzer, blush and high light, (even tho I’ve never tried it!)
•Rare Beauty lip oil in Joy
And if I really felt like I had to have something for eyes,
•the Colourpop Wild Nothing palette
I love that you considered ordering logistics
I love this! What a great question to ask yourself when decluttering ANYthing- what would I want if I had to start over, and in what order would I purchase it?... I started laughing when you held up the Elf poreless primer, because that would be my number one grab too. ❤
Wow the hairstyle 😍
I would love to see a review of the canmake blush!
I could have watched an entire video just on the makeup you have on right here. My ride or dies would be the rose inc concealer and mascara.
YSL lip shine No. 45 cherry red.
thoughtful as always 💜
I think I would buy an expensive red lipstick and be done for quite some time) just because it can be overwhelming and expensive to get my makeup back, plus I would need to search for things since it's not so easy to acquire them. then I'd probably get a translucent powder, some smaller eyeshadow palette with pink and purple in it, more lipstick and maybe I'll finally try a few of those indie 'chromes))
I have both Gone Greige and MOB M102 which is Jessica Haze’s signature greige shade. I prefer that because it’s such a beautiful formula. It has refillable packaging and I have a backup because I don’t want to be without it lol. ❤
This is the very best version of this concept EVER
I'm picky about packing, but particularly blush packaging. It has to be high end because it holds up better.
❤ loving the thought experiment complete with logistical considerations. That would totally influence me.
I love that this is different than a favorites video.
Been saving this video so I can have some company while I run on the treadmill and now I’m actually looking forward to my workout!
For me it's blunder cover, because it's so versatile as a base product
Excited to see your picks. BTW I could listen to you talk all day. Your voice is so soothing. 😊
This is my top must have (i think i have 6 of the same one) Neutrogena revitalizing lip balm in the color 'fresh plum'
Have you tried any of the dupes? I also use VB eyeliner.
I am obsessed with your content. I could listen to you all day lomg
Hannah, I've been living for the bread roll "wig" lately 😭. Our Lady of Spring / Summer releases 🙏🏾🌻💄
i literally left my makeup and brushes in a viennese hotel room days before you posted this
this is a blessing
Would love a hair tutorial for this look ❤😮
Wasn’t able to watch right away but wouldn’t let myself even glance at the product list…the “why” is even more important than the “what” ❤
Just watched!
This is soooo overdue! Thanks, Hannah! Can’t wait to watch 💗
Primer: Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base
Foundation: NARS Light Reflecting Foundation
Concealer: NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer
Spot Concealer: Tarte Shape Tape
Blush: Lancôme Miel Glacé
Mascara: Lancôme Lash Idole
Setting Spray: Charlotte Tilbury
Lipstick: Lisa Eldridge Gloss Embrace in Muse
Would love to see the eyeshadows on.
The Lisa Eldridge liquid eyeshadow in Titania is basically the same color as the Bronze kajal liner, only more sparkly and with some more base pigment if one wants to blend it out. On me, the Tom Ford leans warm, almost a little orange, and Titania is more neutral I would say.
please do a hair tutorial for your hair here! its beautiful!
Before Instart the video: your hair looks amazing! I always admire the minimal effort-maximum results way you do your hair.
Would you please share how you do your hair in this video. Thank you for a fantastic thought experiment.
