Total for supplies/consumables: $439.04
Total for EVERYTHING purchased to date: $5,959.47... ($6,381.47 if we include the price of the axles and hubs).

This week we are talking about how much it has cost me up until this point to one ton swap my 2000 Jeep Cherokee. I have been keeping track of EVERYTHING since we started this series back in January.
Honestly we haven't spent all that much yet, but that is going to change quick...
We'll also discuss how much I think we'll need to finish this Jeep by June....it's a big number....

The numbers I used in the estimate to finish the Jeep are very broad numbers, I'm aware of that. Without spending to much time digging into it, they are the numbers I decided to share.

Wow, you are stronger than I. I do all sorts of funny math when it comes to explaining the money into my Jeeps.... But for a 1 ton Jeep, that is still a good cost over all. You must have a supportive lady as well, so well done there.
I think so as well. Could have been cheaper but could have also been MUCH more.
Ash is incredibly supportive, always has been, she doesn’t mind me staying in the shop until well past midnight. Sometimes she’s even in there with me!
Most don’t know this but the Resurrection Cherokee is actually hers…on paper 😭 … she’s going to have the nicest Jeep around town, maybe that’s why she doesn’t mind all the money going into it😂
The cost of buying new instead of Facebook marketplace is the price to pay to avoid Facebook marketplace.

Its amazing how much more stuff costs these days. I have been building my XJ slowly since 2015 and have done everything myself. My cost is just the price of material/parts. I have about $7k into my jeep, but if i bought it all today i think i would spend close to double that. I got some one ton axles from the junkyard that i plan on using under an MJ that i just got but it will be a slow build. Probably over the next 10 years or so.
That’s what I’m saying! Us average Joes have to work on our own stuff in order to afford it nowadays🥲
Sweet choice on the MJ. Sometimes I wish we were building one instead of an xj.
Oh and i know you mentioned possibly doing stiffeners. I would say its a must with that much weight hanging from the unibody. The dana 60 i got from an f250 weighs 750 pounds. Thats like 6 times what the dana 30 weighs. I have front and mid stiffeners done and need to get around to doing the rears that are sitting in my garage. 😂
These one tons are no joke when it comes to weight. I understand why the JK 44 swaps are so popular right now.
Currently waiting for some mid and rear stiffeners to come in. Already have fronts on there….wish I did the full thing way back when because this Jeep is pretty twisted at this point…hopefully I can fix that.
@backcountrybeagles i had some decent sliders that helped with flex a little bit but now i have frame stiffeners and replaced the rocker panels with 2x6 quarter wall tube. Its so much stiffer now. I am sure it will get a little bit stiffer too when i finish the rear. You can make some cheap with your cnc.
I really enjoyed this type of video. I hope to be able to fabricate one day. Right now I am just working on getting my new lift kit and an SYE installed and this feels so over whelming to me I can’t imagine how you feel with building everything vs just buying pre done parts lol

Just take it step by step and you’ll be good, plenty of videos and tutorials out there to help you out along the way!
It is definitely overwhelming at times but will be worth it in the end.

@@backcountrybeagles ya for sure I mean I am a mechanic but just love driving my Jeep and I’ve entered the rabbit hole of upgrades and while I am here I wanna do this an that and then I get held up by not having some tools at home so gotta wait for weather and to get the tools from work. But the lift part is going good. I have DIY Amazon Bumpers and then some Barnes 4x4 center sections stiffeners to weld up and do and that’s for sure gonna be a learning curve there but I can’t wait to get it done and get it out on the trail this summer.
Great build series! I'm building a junkyard 44 from a ford and it's amazing how the cost grows! I went Revolution for my gears, 2nd set from them and they've set up nicely. Good luck and keep the content coming🤘

I don't even want to add up all my parts I know its worth it to me! As well as you know it will be worth it to you! Good on you for having the plasma table, even tho I can fab my own brackets and links personal I don't have the time! As I'm literally in CA working for parts for my build waiting for me in New Mexico to start and finish to hopefully get up to CO and do some winter wheeling and shake down this coming season coilovers and wheels and tires are by far the most expensive tho
Builds get soooo expensive so quick, especially the small stuff. The cnc makes life so much easier when it comes to fabricating. Once this build is done and before the next one I’ll be investing in some more tooling that I could have used this time around.
Can’t go wrong with some Colorado winter wheeling! Sadly I missed it this year😭
I was almost all relocated back in GJ then it all fell thru and I ended back in NM so that took alot of my funds and as I'm a Union Millwright specializing in power generation winter and spring is my only work season so 4 to 6 months out of the year I'm on the road so this summer is build time in 100°+ weather of NM and that whole mess pushed things back but it should all fall into place by the end of this job I'm on now, btw your build is called the redemption built, mine is called the mid life crisis lol
This is a great series. I feel your pain as I just got my XJ back on the road after 5 months with new axles, everything new for the steering and adding hydro assist, plus a tcase rebuild. It's a lot of work, but that sense of accomplishment at the end is worth it all.
On another note, if you end up having to buy shocks for the rear, just buy threaded body shocks so that you can turn them into coilovers down the road when you link the rear. It gets you good rebuildable and tunable shocks now, without having to get rid of them later.
The first test drive for this thing is going to feel great! The feeling of accomplishment at the end of a big build is unmatched!
Also good idea for the shocks, I’ll keep that in mind.

Hopefully that doesn’t happen to me…but with the trails we plan to do I’m sure they’ll get ripped off once or twice😅
I’m running 5.38 revolution gears front and rear and have been really happy with them since doing my swap about 4 years ago
I keep hearing good things about revolution, that’s probably the route I’ll be going.

Did I hear you mention your doing another bumper. I would buy the original bumper you made that thing is bad ass!!
I think I may, got a lot of ideas I want to incorporate into a new one.
I was thinking about finishing this one up so it can be sold and get some use out of it…more on that in the future though

I have ox lockers in my Cherokee i like the ox lockers.
I have a solid 100k into my cherokee. Im not talking about paying for labor i do everything myself I'm talking parts and stuff but i have lots of accessories and I've spent a lot of time and effort on every little detail. Really its closer to 120k.
I'm running Hutchinson rock monster beadlocks they are a double beadlock and DOT legal but i dont really care about the DOT thing i just like the double bead lock. They are on the heavy side though.
I like that your building it to go on the road I did the same i wanted to be able to do long road trips and stuff.
I like the leaf springs in the back myself i think leafs in back and coilovers up front is a good setup i have fox 2.5 shocks in back with the dsc adjuster and remote reservoirs they are 10 inch shocks and i set them up essentially like stock kinda. I know what your talking about with those cool end bushing's from alcan ive seen those. I've tried a bunch of different leaf springs over the years from expensive to cheap and my favorite ones are actually the Rubicon Express 5.5 leaf springs i like the length and just everything they fit my build well with the relocation brackets and such. I think they are also the cheapest they are pretty damn cheap. I've ran quite a few different brands but i ran the Rubicon express leafs for years then with my most recent refresh i went with some real expensive leafs and didn't like them and then tried some metal cloak springs and didn't like them so i bought a new set of the Rubicon Express even though the old ones were still fine i just wanted new. If i was going to have a set of leafs made like with those nice bushings i would have them copy the Rubicon leafs.
One thing to think about with your brakes is i would contemplate going hydroboost i went hydroboost and i absolutely love it. I dont mean to add cost to your build lol. Hydroboost is so freaking awesome though. Youll need to think about your master cylinder size for the bigger brake calipers you can just change the master on your current booster as well. Also rear disc requires a different proportioning valve and theres a few ways to do that from changing the guts or the whole valve. Some people run it as is but i think it needs addressing when switching to rear disc. Im running a wilwood adjustable combination/proportioning valve with a wilwood 1-1/8 master cylinder on my hydroboost. Wilwood makes a neat little bracket kit to cleanly mount their adjustable combo valve with the master cylinder they make a left or right kit. I enjoy making lines and hoses im a bit of a nerd when it comes to hose and fittings and such so i enjoy plumbing all these things.

I’ve got the rubicon Express 5.5” leafs in this right now as well. Glad to hear you like them so much. Makes me hope that they’ll continue to work for me. We’ll see here in a few videos if that’s the case.
As for the brakes, just to get this going I probably won’t go hydro boost right away but will definitely put it in the to do list. I’ll have to start researching it.

@@backcountrybeagles I don't have any social media I'm not really into that stuff. The Rubicon Express leafs have been great for me it's not really anything special but they have been good leafs. Like I said I thought I'd go with something more expensive or upgrade but I didn't like the fit and they weren't as long as the Rubicon Express springs. The only thing that I can complain about is the center pin placement on the Rubicon Express but I got around that by using spring perches that give me adjustment rearward. I usually like to go with the highest quality option which usually means more expensive but for my needs the Rubicon springs have been great I have much more expensive springs out in the shed lol.
I ordered an atlas 4 speed transfer case that I just got in the mail yesterday so I will be installing that in my cherokee soon. I'm excited to get that in and finish a couple other things. My cherokee has been apart for a little while now.

With your skills you should do diy beadlock wheels. You will save 2k.
With all the weight I’m adding to this I want to try and save some weight and go with aluminum beadlocks. DIY’s would deff be cheaper. Maybe a future crawler project.
