you mention WRX and STI and even show a VB WRX, but to start they are VERY different and not just a little HP and big wing. The VB WRX uses front open diff and rear open diff with brakepad torque vectoring from the Forester SUV. The STI has a whole different AWD drivetrain using front LSD, center DCCD diff, and rear LSD just like the EVO, GTR, GR Corolla.
you'll be surprised how many VB owners think it's just HP and wing, and not realize they're running the drivetrain straight from Forester and Ascent of Subaru Global Platform, that's why you see VB owners put a wing and talk about FA engine and how much HP they can make for going fast in straight line drag race.
@@brian6speed ugh yeah, reason i bought new vb wrx was because it was a good deal at $29k, not spending another $5-10k to swap STI trans, axles, driveshaft, center DCCD controller, and rear diff, would have bought a MUCH better GR Corolla or Civic Type R that would drive infinitely better and hold it's value better than VB.
I have a COBB stage 1 tune on my VB and I plan to do a cat back when I can afford it. That's all I need, and it's a great fun daily. Maybe later on I'll add more, but for now it's perfect.
Loving my 2015 STI. Volk ce28 wheels, Cobb 20g turbo, ets top mount, all Cusco under braces, Koyo radiator, killer b equal headers, fortune auto coils, Recaro sr7 seats. Never let me down since I had it in 2017. Proper oil, ensure properly fuel, don’t lug the car, heat management, don’t get cheap parts and pro tune. Basic research and common sense.
Love your videos, I keep watching them to do my research before getting my VB soon. I may know the answers to my questions but just incase I will ask... 1.) I want to put a BPV on mine. I plan on keeping the engine stock overall but want that sound. Will I need a tune for that? I hear mixed answers to that. 2.) I plan on installing an axleback exhaust (BOSO), will I need to do a tune for that? That's it! Please and thank you
Don't put a BPV on it, just run a perrin intake with a sleeve. Both will make a dealer think before doing work anyway, intake is safer. Tune it down the line. Axleback does not require a tune.
Love your videos. My 2018 Sti has no performance mods. Been pretty happy with it in stock form. Did get wheels tires and coil overs tho. Maybe one day I’ll want some more power but for now I still enjoy driving it the way it is! So much good info here thank you!🙏
What would say the responsible limit for hp on the cvt is? Pro tuner is talking with said he has taken a few (VB not VA) CVT’s to 350 for 2years+ with build and tune no issues. Guy has done hundreds of wrx’s and is gold certified with Cobb
certification means nothing, I would honestly say that seems extremely aggressive for the average person. People were doing that on VAs and selling their rides after 1-2 years to escape the long term issues. But also plenty of people lost them. Having owned one and been so close to a lot of failure cases, I just wouldn't tune one. I know that is a tough statement, but unless you can replace a trans and not be too bummed about it, id be cautious. But i say that as someone tuning my ride and still worried about my manual trans.
Hey man good video. Just a tip, you should reply to your viewers questions and comments more often. You’ll get more engagement. Your channel is small enough where you can make that happen. Even channels with 100k+ subs engage in the comments with viewers.
Who would you recommend for tuning in Northern Colorado? I have a 24 VB WRX (CVT). Also, not looking for crazy power either. Usually I start at the classic CAI + Tune on 91 octane.
A great video brother. 😊. You can call me Stock for life.😅😂. I'm enjoying my 2020 STI and I just hit 75K. All of my maintenance is done by The great folks @ Irvine Subaru here in Irvine CA. I have owned the 2017 WRX and I now own the 2020 STI. I will keep my Bluebaru forever, lord willing. Always great content on your channel. 😊
Cheers thanks! I will say, the only place I feel like a stock car should stay stock, is a well spec'ed STI. Something about it being stock just feels right.
So if you wanna be a youtuber don’t buy a CVT. Got ya. 👍 Re. Carbon cleaning in the upper engine? Use a bottle or 2 of SA718 in your tank every few thousand kms & use high octane premium fuel always. Here in Australia Subaru uses it every service as well as an upper engine clean.
When you got to load the ots tunes they say what octane there for my car only liked shell gas on cobbs ots tune id say the ots are fine but it's worth just paying for a protune it will run better
Now you have me second guessing where I buy 93 octane fuel. I buy at a high volume place, but I don't know who makes the fuel. You mentioned Shell, so any recommendations on other branded fuels that you'd trust? (2024 WRX manual with 500 miles on it)
Any premium is fine til your tuned when I got tuned I had to stwitch to shell car got mad the other 2 places I tried which sorta sucks cause shells like 70 cents more a gallon than other places around me
@mr.velocitystack4133 no problem the carbon build up has alot more todo with oil blow by from the pcv system idk why he was saying gas use good oil an change it every 3 to 4k an hopefully you won't have issues til long down the road
@mr.velocitystack4133 I really don't no about subaru oil but I highly doubt it's considered really good alot of guys run motul in there wrx I use amsoil ss but it cost alot more than most are willing to spend but if it's stock an you get it changed early all the time should be fine changing it before it starts breaking down I believe is what matters most other oils just have more addictive for protection
Trans is the bottle neck, I still don't think we know. 350/340 on the trans seems to be living for a lot of the tuned folks. Is it safe? No tuning is. It's all about your risk tolerance.
@@AutoEnthusiast okay, I ask because I’m planning on getting mine tuned from dmann tuning with their accessport bundle so I wanted to see what I should limit my tune to for the life of the trans
I would generally say they are good. They are a lot of work to install and need to come out for service work if you ever went that route. I would say generally worth it.
So there is a lot to be said here, but you won't lose any sediment filtration with higher flow filters, typically they just remove structural layers and wear layers. They will last a shorter period and clog easier, but the filtration diameter remains the same, it just isn't progressively filtered, so you get a higher material build up at layers.
Just got a Cobb AP. Stock other than that. Really would’ve just liked Subaru to make a 22+ Sti. Probably would’ve left it stock. Just so much to be desired from the 22 WRX.
@@AutoEnthusiast definitely debating a tune from someone and a intake. If it’s quick enough with a tune then probably leave it at that. Don’t want to invest too much into it. It sits in my garage and I o my drive it maybe 100-200 miles a month. Have a work car I’m in 90% of the time.

Solid place to be! What catback do you think you are going to go with?
The biggest mistake is swapping the perfectly good nice looking OEM Subaru badge for a cheapo garbage quality one just to get a color match
can confirm as I make those badges, they are pretty damn good quality lol

Pretty much any car man, just subies are a bit more touchy and have less margin for error
