I wish I could separate Elizabeth Diller's ideas from the blatantly sexist promotion practices in her studio (0 female principles, over 75% of senior staff is male) and their notoriously abusive working conditions. Architecture work culture is just rotten to the core, and none of the work makes up for that.
Dear Corey, work culture must be quite hard at DS+R. We remember a preparation call for this event on a Monday morning and Diller was quite KO from the weekend. If founders and senior staff work as hard as the juniors, I would not have a problem with that. What I don't know if I could keep that level of stress for a long time. Here in Germany, architects leave the office at exactly 6pm and rarely work overtime. 0 female principals is something that must and will change in the architecture culture. For me, if the senior staff
Architecture life in a large firm stinks. I have done it, my friends have done it. When you finish one project the next is different but the same. A lot of my friends as project managers never made it to 70 years old. We would compare it to Lucy on the chocolate belt in I love Lucy episode.
immaculate architectural references and influences, the coolest/most badass/punks of arch world! < 3
