These trucks have a issue that the rear elements over heat and explode the rear window. So if he were to fix the window then it runs the risk of exploding. The rear defrost contacts breaking in the window is kind of a blessing in these trucks, but then you can't use your mirror defrost either hence the bypass.
I have a 2012 f150 with the back glass defrost not working. I’ve watched your video and others that bypass the back glass so the mirrors still have defrost. Some use a device to step down the voltage but I see didn’t. Just wanted to make sure you haven’t had any more issues.
I am not entirely sure… I never diagnosed it because I wouldn’t use it in fear of the glass breaking. But, the button/light work flawlessly now so I am thinking it has some issue with the back heating element.
@@Higgsgarage Yes I have an 11 Platinum 6.2L. bought hose from NAPA and the fitting broke with a bit of force when tried to take it apart. I have no crimps or fittings now, rubber goes right to the metal one piece tube.
@mrstl3000 that’s a good question. I’m familiar with it on the sliding ones only. I do not believe the solid back windows have heater grids in them but I could be wrong.
@@Higgsgarage I have full glass with rear defrost button don't see any grids in window though however it could have been replaced already from a sliding style
The video was very helpful. Thank you for a simple bypass do this issue with my truck just developed. Great work and great video!
Thanks for the positive feedback! I’m glad it could be of some help!
Why would the back glass break if rear defroster doesn't work? It makes no sense. Please explain.

The back glass with rear defrost has been shattering since 2010 on the f150. And still a problem today

I have not had any issues.
Cant you just take out the fuse for the rear window defroster?
Rear window and mirror defrost are on the same circuit
Good info I didn’t even know that the rear window can shatter
Yessir and it’s an easy mod 🤙🏼👍🏼
What years are these having trouble? I see yours is a early 13ish. Have they addressed this in newer models?
I am not positive on all the years but I do believe it’s a 12th gen issue. 09-14 is what I believe but might fact check. Me on that.
2010 to 2022 I know
What was your original issue with the light not coming on?

You're welcome for the idea. I could have put it on my channel but I tend to do things in far fewer words 🤣.
Hahaha yeah I try to not talk to much but it is what it is 🤣🤷🏻♂️ thanks again brother the feedback and ideas help me grow!
$0.20 in wire and terminals is far cheaper than $800 for a window 🤣
@@208Concepts you couldn’t be more right! Not to mention the time spent cleaning up glass and replacing the window.
Those trucks have sudden trans line failures. The fittings break suddenly. Not that common but catastrophic if it happens. No warning.
I have seen that

And how's it breaking window
They short out and cause the glass to shatter.
@@Higgsgarage thanks
@mrstl3000 no problem! Thanks for watching and please subscribe if your not already. 😀
Crazy everything your truck is doing mine did crazy
I have done some just as precocious but it seems like these trucks have a lot of the same faults.
@@Higgsgarage does this happen on the full glass window or just the ones with slider window

That button will also turn on the defrost feature on your mirrors if they are heated.
I live in nevada and the winters are very cold and this has never happened to me
I hope it doesn’t
This just happened to this morning smh 🤦🏻♂️
Dang, I’m sorry to hear that. I would replace and do the fix if it was mine.
