My blood pressure rises every time I get a dot physical. I swear I can feel it rising. But I don’t have high blood pressure I actually have to get a note from my doctor.
I was a truck driver but because they say i was a candidate for sleep apnea i had to take a test. So they sent me a test machine in the mail to take the test. I had trouble sleeping all night because i couldnt get comfortable with the hose on my face and kept pulling it off my nose every time i turned. I end up failing the test they told me i have to use a cpap machine so they sent it in the mail. It record every time i use it and sends the info to them. I tried to get use to the cpap and keept pulling it off my face and kept waking up all the time. I had to show so many hours a night to be compliant and was failing at it every night. I end up losing my health card lost my job. I returned the cpap and to this day i sleep well with out it. How many drivers like me have lost there jobs all from a test that is not reliable at all.
Yep ....here is the driver shortage problem. Fmcsa needs us when a hurricane hits they tell us forget the log book then when it's over you better stay in line.
Hello Doctor, i want to be a driver but I am hesitant because i have a torn bicep and also when I raise my arms all the way up I have trouble because I can't keep them up because I have winging scapulas would that fail me, your opinion? I won't hold you to it thank you
If I felt you could safely operate a truck or large vehicle I would not fail you. It is difficult to say with certainty without seeing you in person however.
@@EasyDOTPhysicals thank you so much for the reply DOC, I understand i just wanted to see if a doctor would fail you for having an injury from the past, but I am able to do the regular stuff I have full motion in my arms is just that was making me hesitant, thank you
I love how they talk driver shortage and find ways to put a driver on skid row. I'll agree if every licensed driver has to get this so called "safety " exam, but we all know that will not happen because truck drivers are the dirt on the bottom of the shoe
I broke my elbow when I was 9 and don't have full range of motion, I cannot put my palm facing up. It has not stopped me from doing anything in 35 years of work and driving, should this be a cause of concern for possibly failing? Thank you for taking the time to make and upload your videos.
If you have limited range of motion in an extremity that does not cause you to have difficulty driving it will most likely not be an issue. The worst case scenario is that the medical examiner could want you to get a Skill Performance Evaluation done by an orthopaedic specialist. As long as the specialist thinks you can drive you will be fine. Thanks for watching!
@Grg Dps here is the wording from the FMCSA - "NOTE: Smokers have a high incidence of COPD, yet individuals may have a significant reduction in lung function without symptoms. Spirometry should be performed in all smokers over the age of 35 years." Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video! Can you please tell me what requirements is there for nervous system?! I mean I had a traumatic brain injury back in 2015 and my right side of my body was totally paralyzed. But now I have recovered so well that other people can barely see there's something wrong with my fingers. But I can live a normal life, do almost everything I used to do and fully independent. I have been driving my private car for the last 5yrs with zero problem. And my question is do you think I can pass the test? What requirements are there for nervous system? Thank you much!!! 🙏🏼
I have lazy eye from birth (strabismus). 1 eye is 20/20 and the other is 20/70 corrected. Field of vision is 160° and colors and everything is fine. I passed everything in the physical all except the vision in 1 eye. From your experience (from what i read) is the exemption straight forward? Am I barking up the wrong tree for no reason? I submitted the vision exemption package over a month with no reply. Not sure how long my recruitment will be waiting for.
I’m getting my dot physical tomorrow I don’t smoke, but I do vape. I’m aware that vaping has some effect on my blood pressure. Since nicotine does travel through the bloodstream. Do you think if i avoid my vape the morning of and up until my physical my blood pressure should be somewhat normal? My blood pressure is always slightly on the high side since I’m a fairly active person and have a naturally fast metabolism also.
Hi Doc, if I use sleep aids such as Melatonin, over the counter Diphenhydramine, or have been prescribed a sleep aid once in the past 2 years, and don’t have any other factors that qualify me for a sleep study, and the study determines I don’t need a CPAP… can I still be disqualified?
The short answer is yes you COULD be disqualified. The reality is that none of the things that you mentioned would cause you to be automatically disqualified. The ultimate determination, however, is up to the discretion of the doctor performing your exam. Thanks for the question!
This is at the doctors discretion although the FMCSA suggests that drivers with high BMI get a sleep study. There is no option for a limited national certificate.
Hello doc, If I be disqualified in Dot physical due to any of the following hearing, eyes, organs and etc, does this mean that I'm already disqualified for the rest of my life and wont get a second chance in the future?
No, If you are disqualified and can either obtain and exemption or correct the situation (hearing aides, glasses, etc.) you can always retake the exam. Thanks for the question!
I can’t get my medical card because I have to get the sleep machine and I don’t understand because I sleep good at night and never sleepy behind the wheel
I remember when all you had to do was just be on medication and you were given the okay. But they changed things in a hurry didn't they. Now you have to be under 140/90 crap.
@@EasyDOTPhysicals Thank you for your reply. I am so grateful, but I forgot to include umbilical hernia. I know there is a hernia check included in the DOT physical. What if the person repairs the hernia, can that lead to disqualification? What can the person do to be qualified if there is still hope? Thank you once again for your reply.

How many fatalities in the US have been caused by high blood pressure?? Anybody?
Blood pressure is one of the things FMCSA takes very seriously.

I failed my physical today because my blood pressure was too high.
that is the most common condition that fails drivers in our office unfortunately
