  • This is an updated product review of some of the cheapest trail cameras on Amazon. Trail cameras are the best scouting tool we have available to us as deer hunters. My goal was to find a cheap camera that checked all the boxes and performed as well as some of the more expensive trail cams. I'm always on the search for the best budget trail camera and the best trail cam for the money. I think I've found it. These are some of the best budget trail cameras for 2022.

    I just started researching trail cans in the 50 dollar range because that’s an acceptable amount if it gets stolen. I am going with your number one pick due to the fact that you showed photos and videos from it, something many other videos lacked. I’m trying to capture videos and pics of the biggest wild raccoon I have ever seen, live or online because no one will believe me that she is pushing 50 pounds or more. I saw her when I was sitting quietly observing a high traffic game trail and at first I thought it was a strange shaped medium sized coy wolf until it got within 10 feet of me. I was in disbelief until she came sack for a second pass. I’ll post a link to some footage when I get some. Thanks again for helping this cheapskate make up his mind and Happy Hunting sir👍

    I am running 3 of the Wosoda cams and I’m curious what settings you find the best? I’m immediately switching to Energizer Lithium batts. because the cold seems to really effect the alkaline. I’ve been experimenting with Rain-X on the lenses 👍

    • @NextStepOutdoors
      @NextStepOutdoors  Рік тому

      The settings generally depend on where I place the camera. If it’s on a trail or somewhere I expect to just catch deer passing through, I run them on either 2 or 3 picture blast and a 10-15 second delay. If it’s on food where I expect them to stay a while, I’ll usually run it on a 2 pic burst and 20 second delay. Also, I only run lithiums in all my cameras. They just perform way better that way. Most cameras will run a full season on one set of batteries.

    Great review. I do have a few Tactacam cell cameras, but I have 8 vikeris that haul most of the load for me as far as data collection. I just purchased some of the newer 4K vikeris and am excited to see how they perform. 1 idea is to wrap the black base that sits against the tree with camo duct tape. I also use cable locks with these vikeris on Public land. It’s a little tight but you can pull the cable locks through. Good luck this fall.

    Liked your video as I have similar priority with limited funds to cover more area per dollar. Jumped on line to get the vikeri, but, it became a no go for me due to the use of the micro sd card. Tried one of those, way to tedious changing them out in the “bush” when the weather deteriorates. Moved to your #2, The wosada, took some time to locate the one you featured without a model #. It appears to be the G 300?
    Ease of pro gaming is a big deal for me. The switching from on to off to set and changing up the various programs while out and about can be very tedious on certain cameras. So, if I might suggest you add model numbers and show/describe the ease or lack thereof with the controls, that would be very helpful, thanks

      I haven’t ran too many regular stealth cams and the ones I did were garbage. Not even sure what happened to mine. I’ve got a few of the fusion X cell cams and like them despite what their reviews on cabelas say. I think a lot of cell cams get bad reviews from all the old people who buy them and can’t figure out how to activate it properly 🤣 I’d probably buy 1 cell cam over 3 regular cam these days but just depends how many cameras you have already.

    My only knock on the Vikeri trail camera (no glow is awesome) would be the micro SD card. My pick would be the one that's still taking day/night pics 5 years from now. I am done with $100+ trail cameras. The market is saturated with unproven models. Your top 3 picks seem to be a good option/value for anyone to explore. The Voopeak seems to be the most like your top pick (3 similar models) from 2 years ago. I am still searching for the "Holy Grail" of trail cameras! Are all three of those models still working 2 years later?

    • @NextStepOutdoors
      @NextStepOutdoors  2 роки тому +2

      Yeah, I’m not a huge fan of micro sd cards but it’s really not that big of an inconvenience. The only time it bugs me is when I bring a normal size sd card out to swap and forget that it’s a micro so need to come back. All 4 from the previous vid are still working and in the woods. Even the one that I thought sucked. It still sucks but some intel is better then none.

    • @djw195
      @djw195 2 роки тому +1

      The single biggest thing holding me back from buying some cams in the micro sd, I don’t want to have to cater to that. @drift I’m also looking for the holy grail of cams, I run about 40 now of various common names in the trail cam space, regardless of price ($30-$110) they all piss me off to some degree. I would say the gap between a $40 to $60 cam to those that are $100 to $120 is tiny. Any cams you’ve found you like the most?

    • @driftlesshunter9200
      @driftlesshunter9200 2 роки тому +1

      @@djw195 Even though I have been an avid bow hunter since 1986, I only started using trail cameras about 5 years ago. This is a brief summary of my limited experiences -
      2 Tasco 8MP - didn't last beyond two seasons. Tried all the recommended on line tricks (clean battery tray terminals), but they all died (even with new tested batteries) eventually.
      1 Tasco 10MP - same story & even a bit worse.
      2 Browning Dark Ops models (bought on sale items) - Brand recommended by a friend, but one stopped taking night pics last year, Browning gave me a replacement camera for free after sending mine in. The 2nd model seems to be stuck in multi-shot mode, and I cannot get it to change.
      3 Browning Command Ops ($79 cameras) - 2 have been working quite well, but poor design for winter/snow. Snow will build up on the sensor ledge and block the camera lens. One eats batteries at such a rate it has become useless to have out any more.
      1 Wosports Mini - same company as the Wosoda above I believe. Exact same menu as a Tasco 12MP (except you have the choice of 2MP or 16MP pics on the Wosports). Data strips are really hard to read (very small print) on most pics, but it works!
      1 Tasco 12MP - Worsports & newer Tasco pics will not open on Mac software . Chromebook & PC is fine.
      I was having issues with Browning & older Tasco cameras last year, & I bought the newer Tasco & Wosports as cheap experiment models & replacements for non-working camera spots. Are any of these the "Holy Grail" of trail cameras? No!
      My experience is very limited, & I would love to keep it that way by finding an affordable camera that takes nice day/night pics, has good battery life, and works beyond one or two years. I don't even leave my cameras out all year.

      I can't stand the micro SD card. I am in the woods, either wearing gloves or my fingers are cold and i can not grab them. Too small and if they fall, finding them in the leaves is a killer. And they put it on the bottom so it is even easier to drop. You might tell, i have had a few cameras. I would get the Wosoda just for the full size SD card

      @@jaytall1 If you like the features of his number 1 pick, I would consider the GardePro A3. The GardePro A3 is priced about the same & uses a standard size SD card. His 2nd & 3rd picks are cheaper, however. I have his third pick now, but I am not crazy about the buttons on it. If it works for an extended period of time, I can overlook that, however. His second pick may be the best option.

    I hunt nothing but public land and I'm a new to using a game camera! I also don't know much about tech stuff or computers! I'm wanting a non cellular camera that can use a full size sd card,shows battery level, basic setup, works descent and something I don't have a lot of money in,as good chance it will be taken or stolen! I'm not sure how to connect a sd card to my android cell phone either or what my best option to see the pictures and save them and share with my hunting buddies! Battery level indicator isn't a deal breaker but would be nice! I have read some about using a card reader on my android cell phone but not knowing much about tech stuff they have me a little nervous about messing my cell phone up trying to view the sd card! Also I read where some of the card readers connectors aren't long enough to connect good if you have a case on your cell phone! I liked the video of the 5 cheap non cellar game cameras you posted but don't want a cellular or the micro sd card cameras! I really would like to try a camera or two this year that isn't cellular! Our Rural King here is offering a Muddy T100 on sale now but not seeing good reviews on them! I'm mostly confused on how to read the sd cards on my phone! Are wireless and cellular the same thing with game cameras? Thanks

    I just bought the Vikeri Trail cam shown in this video. It works alright, but I am having a small issue I was wondering if you know anything about. I have the camera set to take 20 second videos with a 10 second lapse between. The first video it captured was 20 seconds, but all the rest of the 15 clips were only 2 to 7 seconds each. Some even cut off after 2 or 3 seconds even though there was action in the frame. Is this normal? Thanks

    My problem is with the programming on my Hawkray trail camera. The manual is woefully hard to understand. There is no real step-by-step instruction on how to program it with the keyboard. The key functions are not clear to me. The first two times we took down the camera, we did have good video. The third time we wanted to see the videos, there was nothing recorded at all. How long do batteries last?

    • @NextStepOutdoors
      @NextStepOutdoors  2 роки тому

      Depends on a lot of factors like how frequent the camera triggers and if you have it on video or picture mode. If it’s on a bait pile and you have it set to video mode where the flash is on for 15 seconds at a time it’ll last a lot shorter than if it’s on camera mode just on a trail catching a few deer a day. With lithium batteries I’d expect to get an entire hunting season out of them if you just have it on a trail or field edge. Maybe shorter if you plan to set it over bait.

    CAN SOMEONE HELP ME PLEASE! I want to buy a trail cam but I haven't figured out which one to buy and I've been looking at them for the past month! I thought the E6 was the way to go because it's got everything I need... I need Bluetooth so I can put pictures directly from the camera onto my phone cuz I don't use a computer... I'm kind of lost as far as if I need Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. I thought Bluetooth is what I needed in order to hook it to my phone and transfer pictures / videos. Also has to have time lapse mode, built in screen, clear pictures day and night without a visible flash at night time and clear audio, I don't know if this is available but I would like to be able to control it from my phone if I'm in range and make it record when I tell it to whether it be a picture or video/audio that would be nice. I'm going to probably end up using it mostly for security/surveillance type of applications. I want to make sure it take the picture at the right time to get whatever it is in screen... I watched and I saw someone said the Gu
    gardepro E8 constantly was taking pictures where you wouldn't see what was tripping it and on top of that it was extremely grainy blurry pictures if it was up close and they said the E6 was it not blurry up-close as well as didn't miss what it was supposed to take the picture of and a few other things but it seemed like the E6 was much better than the E8. Also it has to be under a hundred bucks preferably closer to 80 or below. I saw the E6 on Amazon for like a hundred bucks and then it had a coupon attached to it where would come out to be around 70 or $80. Anybody who could help me figure out which one I should buy I'd highly appreciate it! I really want to order it and get it ASAP I wanted it like 2 weeks ago but I don't want to get the wrong one

    I would never want the camera that you say is number one. For two reasons. First it has a mini SD Card which are a pain in the neck because they're so small. They're easy to lose for a miriad of reasons, and you have to buy the adapter to plug the mini SD card into. Secondly, the small mini card inserts into the bottom of the camera and not the side of the camera which makes it difficult to find the insert slot. In the dark, in the cold and even on a decent day a mini card inserted up into the bottom of the camera is a pain in the a**!

Watched this video Sunday, ordered the vikeri and Amazon delivered it the next morning at 5am. Grabbed it, set it up and mounted it. Went today to check the cam and the dam buttons are the major Achilles heel for this camera. The buttons especially the down button share functions with the other buttons. I could press the down button through the menu and if I pressed the button 10 times, of the presses 7 of them acted like the Ok button. Went on Amazon and actually read the reviews for this unit and realized I am not the only one having the issues. I should have read the reviews first. The mount that came with it is also crap. So there are coyotes on the property and that means you must shoot them? Any particular reason? Is it just that you have to shoot animals that are around? I don't get it. I eat meat, so I get hunting deer. (responsibly). but to hunt just because a creature is present doesn't make sense. The camera analysis is good and helpful though.

    • @NextStepOutdoors
      @NextStepOutdoors  2 роки тому +5

      Coyotes are predators and they kill a lot of fawns and turkeys. Clearly, there are tons of deer and turkeys where this was so I’d be less inclined to do anything about the coyotes but if I started to notice a lot of fawn carcasses, etc., I’d much rather help reduce some of the coyote numbers to give the deer and other animals a better chance to flourish. I can promise you that the death that I bring to the animals I hunt is much more humane than what happens in nature. Thanks for posing the question. We are not just heartless killers trying to end any animal we see. (Most) hunters have a deep respect and appreciation for all animals, way beyond what most non hunters can even fathom.
