“Because I don’t have, I will make one” “Hand filing is for primitives” 😂 The way you fitted a file to your shaper is one of the best ideas ever. The height gauge you made is brilliant. Well done. 👏👏👍😀

Thank you for sharing this creative layout idea. I also want to thank you for showing us things about the shaper that I was not aware of. Lastly, thanks for making me smile with your sense of humor
Thanks again for the link to this video ! I've had my height-gage/scribe for many years, but now I feel the need to have a second for a different area of the shop. I also love the way you used the shaper as a "die filer" ! ...... Also like your tips on the VFD and your tips on shaper practices .
That was a cool build, and well worth doing - not a problem that it looks homemade, there's no shame in making a good tool that doesn't have a fancy name on it. And I have to say I love the shaper-driven die filer!

Just a quick mention about your 3 x 220 or 3 x 380V in different parts of the country: I think you may have misunderstood or been mislead... In all of Europe power is supplied as three lots of single phase of 220(actually now230)V. Their phases are shifted 120 degrees - called "e-phase" or in German "Drehstrohm". Because of that, you always have BOTH 220/2230V AND 380/400V power. Its 220/230 between each live or active wire and ground - but 380/400 between each pair of live/active wires (no ground connection). As a result, you can run 220V 3-phase motors in 'Star' or 'Y' configuration or 380V 3-phase motors in 'Delta' of 'Δ' connection. Hope that makes sense.Thank you very much for all your informative and entertaining videos!
@@Rustinox so it is 220V between any of the 3 wires? Very unusual for Europe.... Have you actually measured that? If so, you do indeed have 220V 3phase. So where does the neutral in all your single phase PowerPoints and lights come from?
Nice project Michel great tutorial on three phase etc. the filing was a very clever adaptation, mimicking a die filer. When you were drilling that little piece held by your fingers it reminded me of a close call I had last week, but I had a die grinder not a drill and the burr caught and violently ripped the work out of hand , no personal damage other than the underwear. Clickspring has a finger plate project which would be a nice suggestion for your shop. I made one, and one of my next projects is to use a ball end mill, or a carbide burr to make finger grips on the sides. I enjoyed your video very much, and find you quite entertaining, cheers friend!
There is probably a contractor switch in the machine and the VFD will also cut out when it draws to much power. So it kinda already has some sort of a emergency stop build in :)
Gday Rustinox, thanks for answering the vfd questions, the height gauge turn out excellent, Thats a really good idea, thanks again, take care, cheers Matty
Great to see you once again , thank you for the idea as I’d been thinking about doing similar. You are looking well and hope you are travelling well also . Again thanks for the video . Kind regards. 🇦🇺

Once again a very informative video. Must say I would be a bit nervous with that grider trick in the lathe. You should wear a hazmat suit when you do that☺
Michael I was confused for a while that's not unusual! So Ardennes is a area not a town. Thanks for the information, remember we are born upside. For Down Under
14:09 - Thanks ;P Believe it or not, I tried making myself a holder in order to strap my hacksaw onto the shaper... Didn't go far though. The blade twisted and ruined the cut almost immediately :| Oh well... Live and learn

Loved the idea of the file in the shaper for tricky spots🙂. Great "out of the box" thinking😎
It works but it's not magic.
Thanks Rustinox. You are a natural teacher.
I like to explain things to people who are interested. So don't put me in front of a class full of ado's.

G'day Rustinox. That's a great hack mate and an excellent idea. Thanks for showing us. Enjoy your day. Cheers, Aaron.
Thanks Aaron.
So now your Shaper is a Horizontal Filing Machine, Nice trick. Cheers from John, Australia.
Thanks.
Nice addition to tool chest and I'm always keen to see a job done with what just happens to be lying around.
Make something with nothing is a bit the background idea of this YTchannel.
Clever idea for a tool build. We posted this video on our homemade tools forum this week :)
Indeed, i've seen it. Thanks for that.

Hi Michel,
Nice to see you showing that engineering does not have to be always expensive if you make your own tools...
Have a good weekend.
Paul,,
It's very satisfying to make your own tools. Especially if they actually work.
Genius! Now I need to buy a lathe so I can finally get straight cuts from my angle grinder. I hope my wife will agree with my reasoning. Safety first.
She will agree, i know her...oops.

Thanks for your input. Here in my house there's only 3 wires entering from the street, witch are the 3 fases. 3x220 Volt and no neutre.
@@Rustinox so it is 220V between any of the 3 wires? Very unusual for Europe.... Have you actually measured that?
If so, you do indeed have 220V 3phase.
So where does the neutral in all your single phase PowerPoints and lights come from?
@@JoeInBendigo to me it sounds like an old installation, 3 phase 230V (phase to ground) going into the house and the neutral is the earth.
@@heronvontremonia9975 Indeed, it is an old installation.
That's a great idea Rustinox. Love the filing that's the type I like. Tony
Thanks Tony.
Very nice work. Looks like I may have to make a height gauge as well.
Go for it. It works great.
Shaper to die filer love it 👍, another informative video. Enjoying picking up more shaper tips
Thanks, more to come.
Like your file holder, after I make a boring bar holder one for filing is in order.
Go for it. It works, but don't expect too much of it.
Very good made an excellent job of it.
All the best have a good weekend
Thanks.

Thanks. In fact the filing on the shaper is way more dangerous than drilling holes.
Very nice project and nice results too. And especially thank you for the VFD and 3-Phase information. Well done
My pleasure, Glenn.
That is a great looking we tool. Very nice
Thanks Randy.
Great idea.
I have used a calipers for a DRO on a small lathe.
Never thought about use as a height gauge scriber.
Making a caliper DRO for the lathe is a great idea too.
Very nice project, works just fine. Greetings from Czech.
Thanks. And easy to make.
Excellent idea, very useful in the shop.
Thanks for sharing.
Regards John.
Thanks John.
Nicely done. I may try to get a pair of cheap calipers and do something similar.
Of course! Go for it.
Love it.
That is definitely a must build,
Thank you Sir.😎
Go for it.
Nice project. Thanks for sharing.
My pleasure, Rick.

That is probabely true, but with these made in China things you never know.
Gday Rustinox, thanks for answering the vfd questions, the height gauge turn out excellent, Thats a really good idea, thanks again, take care, cheers Matty

Thanks Brian. Make one, it works.
Thank you good sir, I will make myself one just like that, great idea 💡

Very Creative, making more with less there’s always a good idea
Thanks. It's a bit like "from junk to gems"
Great idea if you don't want to or don't have the means to buy a height gauge.
It's also the fun of making yourself.
Nothing wrong with looking shop made Rusty. If it works thats all what counts!. Regards Kevin
Thanks Kevin.
You sound good, I hope you are well, praying for you.
Thanks. Yes, i'm OK.
Great idea! Really turned out nice
Now it's your turn to make one.
@@Rustinox first I gotta scrounge up some kind of surface plate :-)

A little zappy zap!
Presto change oh! A working tool out of junk.
That is some fine work.
Thanks. That's what i like to do.
Once again a very informative video. Must say I would be a bit nervous with that grider trick in the lathe. You should wear a hazmat suit when you do that☺
Thanks Terry. Don't worry about the grinder trick. It's not as spectacular as it looks.
Hi Rusty , i am wondering how long it will be before you put a hacksaw in that thing !!! Good job with the scriber . Cheers .
Hi Max, i've already tried that. It doesn't work. The saw is bouncing around and if i pus weight on it, it breaks.
Michael I was confused for a while that's not unusual!

Indeed, google the "battle of the bulge".
Excellent work! Are those welding gloves the some ones your dad gave you?
LOL, no. These are gloves for handling steel cables.

Nice.Thanks.
Thanks for your time.
I like it! 😁 The real ones have quite a price tag on them. Unless your building stuff for CERN those should work just fine. 😊
