I think it crazy how polar opposite America is with home privacy. On 1 hand you have the crazy people who shoot at everything stepping on their property and on the other side the neighbor who walks into your house and takes an egg or something. In Germany this literally isn't a thing. We simply lock our doors 24/7 and if someone wants to visit he rings the bell. If someone sees an open garage on his neighbors house and is curious he would stand at the garage door and shout the neighbors name and ask for permission to come in.
This video is from Canada, where I live. Legal firearms owners in the US actually avoid shooting people by instructing the intruder to leave and they only shoot at people who are attacking. Actually, the US military did a study a long time ago, where they learned most soldiers didn't fire in combat because most people don't want to hurt people. Most neighbours in the US and Canada are like the people you mentioned in Germany, but the one mentioned in the video is one of the nosy ones we have here. Also, we keep our doors locked too, but some people break in, especially in places with firearms restrictions.
Be firm but fair let anyone invading your space look no touch. Respect is the code ask him if I just walked in your house and just started grabbing things what his reaction would be and take the advice given
