I was an adult in the Army when this came out. I was living on barracks in the lines & I had a huge VHS collection. The Lion King was one of the movies I owned and it was THE most borrowed VHS in my collection, so it goes to show adults loved this movie without seeing it as a kid. Love your reaction, thanks for posting ❤
These classic Disney movies have a lot of deep messages, that young kids can learn and think about, but sometimes not articulate until they're older. I spent a few years contemplating Pinocchio, Bambi and Dumbo, but was in high school before I realized that all 3 were about boys like me trying to find their place in the world.
1988: James Earl Jones and Madge Sinclair played King & Queen in the excellent romantic comedy "Coming to America" (1988). Jones played King Jaffe and Sinclair played Queen Aoleon of the African kingdom of Zamunda. Six years later, in "The Lion King", Jones and Sinclair reprised their "royal marriage" when they voiced King Mufasa and Queen Sarabi - Simba's parents.
@@ptthatswhatshesaid ... It's a cool piece of trivia. I learned about it just recently. "Coming to America" stars Eddie Murphy, who plays Akeem, the Royal Prince of Zamunda, who travels to the USA to find his Queen.
Yeah, what we call a wild boar/wild hog is native to Eurasia and North Africa but has also been introduced in North America. There’s also Javelinas which are in central and South America and the Southwest USA. But what Pumba is we call a Warthog and they’re from subsaharan Africa. They have more tusks than the wild boar or javelina.
And it’s not necessarily incorrect to call any of them wild pigs, but in general that term would be taken to imply the species that English people were first familiar with - the one native to Eurasia.
“The past can hurt, but the way i see it you can either run from it or learn from it”. That line always stuck with me and it’s my favorite in all of The Lion King. This movie is in my top five along with The Little Mermaid, Beauty And The Beast, Aladdin, and The Hunchback Of Notre Dame since i grew up watching them throughout my childhood.
The opening of "Circle of Life" is sung in Zulu, not Swahili. There's actually a whole Zulu dub of this film. Hyenas are interesting. Their clans are female-led and their clan structure is social networking than fighting for rank. There was a famous study named the "Syrup Rising" where a young radio-collared female hyena named Waffles went from the lowest rank in her clan to leading her clan. They also kill more than they steal from lions.
@@ptthatswhatshesaid there was actually a long standing show on Animal Planet, a nature documentary thing called Meerkat Manor, it's quite good., and thanks for teaching us suricata.
It doesn't matter how many times I've seen this movie, the scene where Simba finds Mufasa dead in the gorge always gets me in the heart. Especially the fact that Scar gaslights Simba into thinking it was his (Simba's) fault and Johnathan Taylor Thomas' line delivery. Also, I am very glad they cast James Earl Jones as Mufasa. As much as I respect the actor, they almost cast Christopher Walken. Thoughts on The Lion King I am not a religious person in the traditional sense. But I've always seen this film as a representation of the abandonment and rediscovery of God. Which is interesting. Because it points out that God exists within us. Even if we try to run away and ignore the consequences. Which is also possibly the most hopeful message in human history. That you can find God. Now, As I said, I'm not what you would call traditionally religious. But it's hard to deny the depth of the truth of that message. And thr beauty of the symbolism employed in the movie. "You must take your place in the circle of life". It's one of my top 5 favorite films of all time. Someday Ill tell you what my #1 is.
@ptthatswhatshesaid It's an allegory. It shows one of Humanities oldest, most ancient stories. Basically you could consider it to be one of the lost/deleted stories from the collection of stories that later came to be known as the Bible. It contains within it a riddle and a warning. The riddle is a recipe for ancient Magic. (Recipe for bronze) And the warning is about what can happen to your civilization if you over-rely on nature. Now, this is not the only example I have found of such an allegory. Transformers Movie 1986 And Dragonball Z Are both also the same allegorical recipe for bronze. And I grew up with both of those stories. And like come on. I have Optimus Prime's (Peter Cullen) Autograph! But this other version of the story is my favorite My favorite because of how beautifully the story is conveyed. All wrapped up in a beautiful children's story that takes the form of an adventure. It's also because of how important the symbolism is. And once you recognize that this is a modern retelling where say... Instead of the goddess falling out of heaven... (Like it was in the old story)... That it was instead... A girl falling out of an airship... And that this represents a princess and her prince charming... That some of the fainter, or more obscure pieces of the overall symbolism falls into place. I'm not going to say it's going to be easy to decipher all of the meaning in that regard, but the movie still holds up well regardless. But you should watch Princess Mononoke first. Which is also a similar allegory, and just starkly beautiful and stunning. My movie, while not quite as visually stunning... I just find more beautiful Symbolically. And like I said it's a children's movie. So it may be simple in some regards. But I still think it holds up. And just so I don't torture you. It's "Laputa: Castle in the Sky" It's another Studio Ghibli film. That's my favorite film. It's the kind of film that's easy to gloss over... Like most of the "Fairy Tales". But instead where most people are like "It's a moral lesson" . I'm like... This is a recipe for bronze... And a proof of God. Or like Snow White: This is a recipe for Steel... And a proof of God. I say proof of God because the Story of the Birth, Death, nd Resurrection are also a recipe... But I think one to purify gold instead. So yeah. Easy to overlook the deeper symbolism. But still Fantastic Films nonetheless. And Like I say, I'm not what you would call traditionally religious. I just like symbolism, and looking for repeated patterns. There are so many other movies that are good at being movies. But so far it's the best one I've found for giving the most concise version of the story. And that's why I find it beautiful above all otgers. But that's just me. Love your guy's reactions btw! 😁
