Lou Gehrig’s Disease (also known as ALS) is a debilitating genetic disorder that causes the patient’s body to gradually shut down more and more-usually over a period of a few years-until they eventually die from organ failure or suffocation, depending on where the shutdown starts. (If you guys ever heard of the ALS ice bucket challenge that was super popular in the early 2010’s, this is what those people were raising money to research and fight against. One of the rare times a viral internet trend actually had a useful purpose.) It is absolutely horrific. My mom’s cousin Mark died from it about half a dozen years ago. In his case, it started from his feet and spread upward until eventually his lungs failed and he could no longer breathe on his own. The extra screwed-up thing is, his genius mind was left intact the entire time, trapped in a body that slowly became more and more useless, right up until the end. I’m not sure I can imagine a more nightmarish way to go, and I know a lot of disturbing medical stuff. Also, hi Daniel and Lucy/Lucia. (I’d put the proper accent on the “i”, but I don’t remember which way it goes, and I’d rather just not use something than apply the wrong thing. Seems disrespectful. I’m pretty good with names of all sorts, though, and can go with whichever name she most prefers.) I don’t speak up much these days-except to sometimes reply to other comments-but I’ve been subscribed since sometime around the middle of last year, I think, and I really enjoy your content. The fact that I’m actually bothering to pay a compliment like this is evidence enough, as I’m no longer the type of person to just go around hyping everyone up. People do way too much of that these days, and it’s honestly kind of a problem; too much positivity can be a very bad thing. Anyway, since I was already commenting about the disease, I wanted to go ahead and say a little something. I appreciate the way you guys do things here, including the frank, no-nonsense analyses and everything. Usually I agree with most of the thoughts you guys express, sometimes I don’t, but I almost always understand either way. I hope neither of you are ever affected by the rude outbursts of emotional children who feel attacked just because you don’t say exactly what they’re hoping to hear. (What’s really dumb is that so many of these people miss the part where you both enjoy what you’ve watched. That’s the most important part. Whether or not something is your favorite thing isn’t really important. Besides, you’re entitled to your own opinions and preferences.) I genuinely enjoy you both. It seems Lucy gets a lot of crap for being so blunt and logical, but I like it-especially since that’s exactly how I am. (I’m also extremely foul-mouthed; I like to say I could cuss a sailor off a ship. Point being, that’s something else I’ve been known to enjoy in some of your videos.) I imagine you guys would be a lot of fun to be around. But that’s enough of my rambling for now. (And sorry for the long-winded comment. I do this a lot.) Looking forward to more good times with your reactions!
