Stumbled here and happened upon the wombat guy, who is behaving splendidly. Tune sounds great ya’ll!
That weirdo in a robin hood hat circle bowing the cello is one of the reasons I love old time music so much. There's no hard formula for it, a cello doesn't disqualify a group from the bill, second fiddle can play a viola, clawhammer the banjo, throw in a mandolin that doesn't have f sound holes, maybe even a snare if you want to get weird... shit, as long as you make them old time songs sound good you're doin' god's work.
Everything Mankind has done that is worth doing was done by weirdos.
I absolutely love the little smile Bruce gives when Rushad hits a minor chord at about 2:33. You can tell he thought it was cheeky and cool.
Truly the new sound of the old sound. How I wish they could have lasted longer than they did.
the girl sings in the perfect traditional style - fantastic
I guess Im pretty randomly asking but do anybody know of a good site to stream newly released series online ?
@Bowie Terrance i dunno try flixportal. you can find it if you google :) -kamari
@Kamari Leland thanks, signed up and it seems like a nice service :D I appreciate it !!
@Bowie Terrance No problem xD
What is her name?
Lol, first saw this video about eight years ago, and the guy with the bycocket hat and cello still cracks me up.
Best version I’ve heard……listen to it over and over
Thanks! We love this one too. We're having an Old Time jam live stream next Tuesday starting at 8pm on our Patreon page! Be sure to check it out!

The single most delightful music video online - who dares to deny it?
This music is like therapy.
Completely agree. It helps me in the darkest moments.
Certainly reinforces my faith in humanity
got mad respect for anyone who can sing and play fiddle at the same time, that shits like having a stroke
Jim Miller. You were the top of the top. Ended there and died there. My deepest respect.
This video is perpetual. No "death" here John.
Aw.
Sounds like we are on a musical journey . Rhythm just trudges on through! And yes the smiles. They are having fun. I can’t stop listening
I listen to this over and over again. Love the energy and style.
Mm!
That's sangin...
Thanks fer sharin 👍
I still think the movie crystal has the best rendition of the song. Makes me cry everytime I hear it. When you hear it like this it doesnt have the sorrow effect, it has a more "your loss and Ill be fine" vibebto ke. Great job on this though.
P.s. if you have never eatched Crystal w/ Billy Bob Thorton you should make a ooint to do so. Awesome movie!
Brilliant version!..
My favorite version.
Best live tune ever! I just keep coming back to it over and over! It's just such a fun song, and they look like they are having fun playing it!
That style of Banjo playin is so addictive. Love it.
Wow! This is the beginning of something for me, thanks for the tune, what a blast
I am still in love with Tatianan Hargreaves.
She makes that viola look so big!
@@jakebarnes7266 Maybe because it's an alto?
Just amazing. I keep coming back to this.
So much drive. It's just too awesome!
it always makes me SING along with HER phantastic, infectiolus
Mr. Miller is a rock solid rhythm section.
Those smiles.. We just need to look at them to feel them, great
new to old-time; this is so dang good
Lucky you. You have so many wonders in store...
Favorite version of this song I've heard!
Jesus, how adorable is Tatiana leading the dance here! I love how she "calls" instead of sings, proper ho down style.
Just amazing, and regret that I couldn’t find this awesome stuff. The fiddle symphony is fantastic.
Man! I want to jam with those guys!!
can.not.stop.listening....
I agree a great wee band I would enjoy to see live...
greeting from bali island 😇
this music makes me so happy
same...
I love your version of this song, really nicely played..
Great stuff! Best ever, could listen again - all day!
Incredible performance
Been watching these Bruce Molsky band videos, and I like everyone. And hate country. I guess I like Appalachian fiddling and it's not annoying to me like country - this kind of music jams!
Michael Bauers nicee I'm used to this stuff I'm from North Carolina but live in Virginia
I feel like country is really watered down, and most of it is devoid of any soul, even though there is no shortage of power-vocalists.
I'm with you, modern pop country sucks ass but outlaw country is where it's at. If you like this check out billy strings version of red rocking chair, its straight 🔥
Love it! Great composition, I listen this tune again and again...thanks for sharing!
Great video and the singing and music is awesome.
So pleasing to the ears!
I could listen to that all day, which I think I'll do.
La meilleure version the best!!!!!!!
Punch repeat and rip off the button.
I absolutely love that cello on the bottom end. It changes the entire dynamics of the tune. Bill Monroe added Earl Scruggs to his band and changed music forever. I think Rushad could do that for old-timey music.
he could if he hadn't already mastered it and moved on to write songs in invented languages about gnomes other fantasy creatures
Nothing new about cello in OT music. The East Texas Serenaders and several Indiana/Kentucky bands used it back in the 30's.
I’ve watched this dozens of times. A fiddle tune that’s only 7 measures long (that repeats). Is that unusual? Seems nuts but it works. I thought 99% of fiddle tunes are 8 measures (or 16 with an A part and B part). Someone help me.
She counts in half time at the start, so it's 14 measures. It's a great song, very simple but pleasant.
A lot of bluegrass has weird tricks like this. It's one of the things that make the genre unique. Often there will be a single 2/4 bar at the end of a tune
When tunes dont line up in patterns of 8 or 16 exactly, it's called crooked. So this tune is crooked, and its a bluegrass tune (vocal verse that repeats that is also played by the instruments) instead of a fiddle tune. This single form repeating is common for bluegrass tunes. Sort of like bury me beneath the willow, or ill fly away. Chinquapin hunting from this set is a fiddle tune, but it is also crooked and i think has a, b and c sections
Tatiana Hargreaves 😍
Mighty fine, mighty fine!
Hello
pure magic wonderful stuff
Wish they made more videos together!
Isn't she just amazing.
Rest in peace, Jim
Very enjoyable.
Awesome !
Nice sound with the Cello in the bottom. Gotta find some more with this band.
There's not a lot but they are all just great with all their individual projects.
Love it!
Beautiful !!!

Does anyone know what they are singing in the 2nd verse? I just can't figure out the first few lines!
Very nice.

Excellent
I love you, such a good Music, Tatjana is very good.
strange hearing this after listening to the dock boggs version forever.
But I like it
I like it.
I really want to jam with that cello player.
So Damn good
I'm seeing the comments and cannot agree more. I stumbled accross this clip and have watched it endlessly over the past several days. Does onyone know if recordings of this set or this group are available outside of UA-cam. This is fantastic!!
+Stuart Toraason It's not this particular performance, but Tatiana Hargreaves has a recording of her playing this song with Bruce Molsky and others on her album "Started Out to Ramble" under the title The Damon's Lament/Sugar Baver
Great. Thank you Robert
so fabulous! anyone have a good link to the fiddle music? Must learn this song!
that is one good microphone
Great!!!! ♥♪♫!!!!!!!!!!!
ma version préférée!!!!
I think I have fallen in love again. Gosh she's beautiful! Oh gosh!
I'm too old for crushing but she sure is a wonderful player.
I need to party with that bass player
Bad-ass.
Bruce, Could you tell me what tuning your banjo is in please. Thank You
Love the song I just wish the lyrics "I'll rock the cradle when you're gone" were different.
And the lyrics?
Wait, is that Eggleston!!?
That's about as good as it gets.
..,.One more!
this music makes me think in Hell on wheels TV Show :) i love it
Who's the guy on Cello?...He's great!
Rushad Eggleston. He's as much a jester as a brilliant (if a bit unconventional) cellist.
@@michiellombaers3198 Check out his work with Crooked Still among much else.
Anyone know the chords (guitar) for this tune?
It's just a I-IV-V in the key of C, I think, but only fourteen measures. So (ignoring the lead-in C chord at the very beginning):
F C C F
C C F C
C F C G
C C
@@nissimlebovits3636 Good work.
Isn't this also called sugar babe?
+No profile Yes.
What's the cross-tuning - anyone know?
jld84cu For the violin? If anything they may be using cajun tuning, FCGD a step down. or even DDAD (Dead mans). Guitar is usually in standard or Drop D. But she does have a 5 string fiddle.
Meredith Littleton Thanks!
jld84cu Guitar is playing C chords FWIW...
Who is she?
She has a funny way of holding the instrument. Is she Cajun?
Cajuns don't hold their instrument any different than anyone else !!!! She is using a 5-string by the way.
*****
I saw videos of Doug Kershaw playing, and he held it like that too, so I thought maybe that was a cajun style or something.
It's a goddess thing.
She has to alter how the instrument is held. Tough to sing when your chin is clamped down on the violin.
I think she was pissed at Bruce for screwing up the recording
I'm a sucker for a pretty lady with a fiddle.
I am in love with Tatiana Hargreaves! Oh I wish i were 50 years younger.
If you're a dude, I don't think the age gap is the biggest issue with falling for Tatiana.
Creepy comment
@@boobalashoobala4678 lmaooooo
Fucking rushadicus lmao
wtf happened to Tatiana Hargreaves oh god
She's still playing great.
Peter Pan on bass!
That's Rushad Robert Eggleston, Mr. Green: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rushad_Eggleston
Red Rocking Chair is a man's song about fallin disturbed ex wives that are unworthy of being a mother.
The celloist is thinking he's in a metal band, eh?
