This is such a great exercise. Every time I think I have it, I play along and notice something new. Took me a while to figure out you were hitting the B string in the A part, now I just noticed the drop thumb in the break of the final version in the B part 2:12. So many great techniques packed into a seemingly easy tune! Thank you for taking the time to do this!
Never heard it before or a tune played slow, medium and fast that was so soothing. Each speed delivered its own uniqueness. Thanks for sharing I enjoyed much.
Well done. And, I hope you found a way to support the artist who took time to make and share this video with us. I bought the book, because she has some great songs in it, and because I believe that we should celebrate and appreciate our artists. They’re rare and special.
A really interesting interpretation of a great old song. I like the claw hammer take vs Dock Boggs' original style of playing it. I've always heard it called "Sugar Baby".
hi! bought your tab book recently and I love it. What are you playing in the very beginning of each song? it's a riff of sorts that I'm assuming Is your own twist but id love to know it if possible thanks!
Did you work it out, friend? It’s a repeated hammer on the 4th string: hold and play 4th fret, hammer onto 5.. and then thumb on 5th string ! Repeat! hope that helps. ⭐️
I've seen clawhammer players who player higher up the neck (closer to the head/kind of over the head but not as far as where bluegrass pickers play). How do you decide where to play, do you just choose whichever is more comfortable?
There are a lot of different versions of this song. This is kind of the standard jam version in New York. It is absolutely very different from Dock Boggs' version and many others. But that is the beauty of finding different ways to play the same tune.
Thank you

What a beautiful song, played amazingly. Never heard it before, but will be playing it often
Watching versions of tunes played slower than usual tempo really helps when you usually use Tab to start learning a tune. Thanks!

Garnett M , so how did that turn out? :) She makes all her tunes look easy. I have her little book, and that helped me a boatload.
@@chuckjeffery944 Most times I play them easy enough, But try so many during the morning I might forget I played it, Thanks for asking!
Garnett M , that’s the way I do it. Makes me grin to think about it. So, I just do it again. See ya.
@@GarnettM hi
Please share what brand banjo you are using ! Awesome sound !,,
bad ass
You are a good teacher. Thinks! I’m learning the song you were teaching red rocking chair. Do you teach via Skype?
I don't use skype, but I do use facetime or zoom!
good
Thanks a lot for this Hilary! Any chance you could do one for "Don't get trouble in your mind" like you did with Dubl Handi?

You're deep in emotion, aren't you? You're very good! 😁👍.
Why the banjo? And I say, why not. I've shut the door. Keep playin'.....................I'm listenin'.
Where did you learn this version? It’s amazing. I’m very familiar with the modal and bluesy versions, but this is totally new to me
very nice- what is the brand of u banjo?
Such a Pretty tune. Do you have tab for it? Greeting from Malene from Denmark.
There’s a link in the description to a book with loads of these songs, all tabbed. Magic.
what model and make is that banjo!? thanks!! great playing :)

Can you tell me what your banjo tuning is please. Thank You
Fast is waaaaaaay btr
Is it a tutorial? If so completely useless
Tutorial for very advanced players
You really do not "got" Sugar Baby". Zero resemblance.
