- Spain won the World Cup for the first time in their history in 2010 and that signaled the zenith of a 12-year domination of international football by the European nation.
The team who brought it home in South Africa is still referred to as the Golden Generation of Spanish football, and today, 12 years after their triumph, we want to see where the starting XI of that Golden Generation are.

Their starting XI itself was this scary that we forget that these guys played while fernando torres, cesc fabregas, victor valdes, david silva, juan mata were all on the bench. Thats how scary spain was from 2008-2012

As a Dutch person this amazing Spain team made me cry myself to sleep for the only time in my life. One of these videos on the Dutch players in this final would be interesting, seeing as some absolutely shocking players made an appearance (like Elia, Braafheid) as opposed to the Spain team which were filled with mostly legends

The 2 subs who came into the final ; Cesc Fabregas & Fernando Torres are worth mentioning. Torres was a fantastic man of the match in the 2008 euro final under the previous coach. It was essential in building the base. In that final, his main contribution was that throw-in to Cesc Fabregas. The latter made the assist in the 2010 final but just as important; he was possibly the best player at Spain's next tournament in Euro 2012. He had to play as a false-9 because Villa & Torres both got injured and missed the 5 games between 1st match & the final. Fabregas thrived in that role and the main man in carrying out Del Bosque's tactics. It was a genius piece of improvisation bv the coach too because any other country would have been eliminated without a Centre forward. Del Bosque lost both of his strikers after the first game....only Spain can win a tournament without a recognized number 9.
The new golden generation youngsters of Spain is coming back this world Cup.⚽
