SHOCKING: Asking Professional Environmentalists How To Save Fish 🐟🙈😜

- What's the best way to save the fish? Stopping eating fish? Or cutting out plastic straws? That's what we asked professional environmentalists at COP28 in Dubai.
The global fishing industry is responsible for the deaths of ONE TRILLION fish per year.
Plastic pollution takes the lives of around 100,000.
If you want to save fish, stop eating them.

Well that was a depressing watch
😂😂😂 right! Not that hard
It’s not. It’s scary. It’s absolutely terrifying actually. It’s not funny. It’s not depressing. It’s downright outrageous.
Lol I can't believe it
Same like what the actual fuck😂

How shocking....

That’s pretty much it
Just like most people who claim to be animal lovers until they're hungry.
Most of them only love dogs. I've signed petitions where all other animals including cats don't get many comments, but someone hurts a dog and people want to go lynch someone from the nearest tree or come up with barbaric ways to torture that person. So it's fair to say many people love dogs (except wolves & coyotes) more than people. Someone finds a stray dog and they will treat it with love and compassion, but a homeless person is seen as a non-contributing scum of society. Again many of them will probably claim to follow Jesus, but ignore the fact that he was homeless nomad who didn't contribute financially either (his teaching of love was a far better contribution).
I think people like to say or act like they're "good" just to naively feel good about themselves, but they fail to walk that difficult narrow path of righteousness, instead they walk that easy wide path to destruction (like killing all the fish and destroying the planet because they refuse to be righteous in love, because it's just to darn difficult to give up killing and eating another being who was also born on this planet to live and experience life). Meanwhile vegans living in a world that doesn't want to change is the difficult narrow (and sometimes lonely) path. "Be in the world, but not of the world."💚
Starting to wonder if the industrial animal exploiters financed the whole "stop using straws" propaganda to distract consumers from the truth???
I'm pretty sure that's it.
I was thinking the same thing
Definitely. Especially considering straws are just a tiny fraction of the plastic in the ocean, whereas the biggest proportion of it is discarded fishing gear.
@shaykepeeer7040
Shifting the blame… works like a charm.
Just ask Brown and Williamson Tobacco…
"Doubt is our product…" and all that.
😔
I don’t think they invented that propaganda but I do know they capitalized on it.
This is shocking. These people are in complete denial. It’s shocking.
I feel shocked too.

To say stopping eating fish is hard only because you say it's hard and you don't have the will to do it. It's not actually hard.
An ancient question, if you don't have the will to do something, then how do you get the will? Obviously you can't use will. So stopping eating fish is simple, but for some not easy.
The fact that so many struggle, is evidence that it's hard. The human brain has a tendency to rationalize desires, preferences, and decisions, often leading individuals to believe that their thought processes are objective and logical. If even scientist struggle to fight against cognitive bias, then how can we say it's easy?
It seems easy to us, because we have already been convinced of vegan foundational principles, so we can rationalize eliminating fish from our diet. It's already in our will to do so.
@deepseadarew6012 That's exactly what I'm saying. It's not actually hard when your mind is in the right place.

Some people are afraid of change. Some people are simply too lazy to make an effort.
Hillarious and tragic all at once.
But one of the biggest challenges for getting the general public to cut their meat consumption is the cognitive dissonance that most meat eaters have to engage in to carry on doing what they do.
Definitely disagree about it being hilarious. It’s bloody scary.
I think it's pretty englightening. Discovering the shocking amount of meat eaters within the environmental and scientific community is a reminder that no one is immune to cognitive dissonance. We must constantly challenge our assumptions, and also be more forgiving for those who struggle with the truth.

"It's hard because I'm a scientist." Not sure if that person is really a scientist.
That was so funny
As a scientists it’s really hard to follow evidence and logic….
I see why the world is in so much trouble now. Is it just me or did this feel like being punched in the gut? 😮😢❤
Definitely not just you.
Insane isn't it 🤦🏻♂️

The people who refuse to answer the question are the most depressing of all. They clearly know the correct answer but either don’t want to acknowledge it or are being paid not to acknowledge it.
Yeah that’s my thought. A lot of delegates code from lobbying turns and vested parties
Why isn’t anyone talking about that most of plastic pollution on affecting fish comes from fishery nets? It’s not straws, it’s the nets. To stop killing fish is to stop eating fish but the narrator should have mentioned the detrimental effects of fishing nets.
I agree. I kept waiting for Klaus to talk about this.
I think he forgot to mention it, or he may have said it but it is not in the clip.
Stop eating fish to save the fish is not so simple?
How more simple than this can it be?

What percentage of plastic in the oceans is from discarded fishing gear? Like 50-60 %.
Yeah, but straws are the problem...

Some studies say 90 to 95% of the plastic.
So, so brutal. That statistic needs to be on billboards.

"What's the problem is not eating fish, but the high levels of plastic waste". Well, like one gentleman said, plastic straws make up 0,025 % of the plastic in our ocean, while fishing nets make up about 50 %.
It is 95%
forgot to mention 50% of plastic in the oceans is from fishing gear
What a complicated question. Thanks for exposing them.
Exactly

We need to remind people that almost 50% of the plastic in the GPGP is from fishing.
I was shocked that people can live in so much denial.

Why do people always say "My fish, my salmon" as if the animals are literally theirs? And the ones who couldn't even answer the question? Come on.
stop eating fish we dont need them, but the ocean needs the fishes
The numbers are between 1 and 3 trillions a year, very hard to estimate for all the indirect damage of mass fishing.

Wow, just wow! These responses were fasinating from "professional environmentalists". We humans have a long way to go to be able to live with as little harm as possible, a long long way to go.
As an Environmental Professional...I've stopped eating meat too... and doing the hard work trying to educate people....can't just do the easy thing..
No wonder the oceans are doomed if they're the professional environmentalists.
Imagine if we let this people “fight for the climate” they are just saving fish industry interests
It is effective to stop eating fish but also cutting ocean pollution. Both of them, because you're stopping eating fish, but then, we leave them to live in a polluted ocean
The plastic in the ocean is mostly fishing gear/nets. Not straws. Stopping eating fish means less fishing boats which means less plastic netting/ gear being left behind to pollute the waters.

Nice! Getting back to the streets. 👏🏾 I love these videos. ❤
I stopped eating fish and I’m doing just fine. No regrets, don’t miss it and the cognitive dissonance is gone. That’s good for my heart, mind and spirit!
Conservative estimates suggest 640,000 to 800,000 tonnes of fishing gear is lost annually worldwide, which could account for at least 10 percent of all plastic pollution and perhaps as much as 70 percent of all macro plastics when estimated by weight in our oceans,” says George Leonard, chief scientist at the ...
Honestly more people said "stop eating fish" than I expected. But that's because I have zero faith in humanity, so low (nonexistent) expectations. That said, it was still just not fun hearing each and every "plastic straws" argument, so confidently delivered.
Why do none of these environmentalists seem to be aware of the fact that the VAST majority of plastic in the ocean comes from the fishing industry??? Get these people some training in their own field immediately.
How utterly depressing 😢
The only thing keeping me from bashing my head against the wall with these answers is that I do think a lot (most) of the interviewees were defining "effective" as "will people do it?" And yes, it's a lot easier to get people to stop using plastic straws than to stop eating fish.
Based on the poor competition i think i want to become an environmentalist
God, save us from experts!

WOW 🤯 this video blew me away. How can you call yourself an environmentalist and be completely blind to the obvious solution 😮😮
Wow, this made my brain hurt 😵💫 The one thing they won't do to save the fish is stop killing them. How mad is that?
Oh my god, we're f@#ked
Great job exposing the utter hypocrisy👏👏👏👍👍👍
the cognitive dissonance is excruciating
After hearing their options on this, I don't want their opinions on anything. I would like their universities, collages and professions listed - TERRIFYING!
i dont wanna answer that, because iam a part of the problem.......
The majority of plastic pollution of the oceans comes from the plastic fishing nets, but plastic straws ban will save the fish? Really? And those are the people who are supposed to be clued in on the matter 🤯
They don't know how polluting fishing industry is??? How ... They're supposed to know it..
LITTERALLY
Teach the fish to collect the plastic straws.
At least they know how oil executives feel when facing effective environmental policy, but probably lack the empathy to make the connection.
This is depressing AF, how is everyone so dumb 🤦♂, saying this is a complicated question bruh.
Fish are friends! 🐟
That was crazy.
The video title should be “Smart people saying dumb things”

Only vegans should be allowed to have such a job
Should we implement the easy solution that won't really save the fish just to make ourselves feel better or are we actually trying to save the fish?
The difference between leaders and followers.
This is the product of higher education?
Granted you can't see how he frames the question to each individual person but if he uses the same exact wording as he does in the beginning "which is more effective", how could someone possibly come back with some of these responses...
Because the clearly correct answer would out them as only pretending to care, in order to appear intellectual.

That "Scientist" teletubie actually meant "I was brainwashed into believing what others tell me is logical, so i will have to ask them first".
Don't look up... No wonder we are in this mess when most "environmentalists" have zero clue about the effects of fishing and animal farming. Depressing to say the least.
Anyone seen that movie 'Idiocracy' ? Thats what carnism generates and perpetuates in real life. 🤦🤦🤦🧐🥦💪
We are screwed if these are environmentalists.
Where is the last years 2023 PBN Film?
we want the film!
The straw people are so delusional
The straw people 😂😂
This is insane.
It's ridiculous to say that cutting out plastic straws is more effective when ( 01:27 has a realy good point) fishing nets and supplies are the biggest source of plastic waste in the ocean. I'd have like to see them respond to that fact...
...maybe play Seaspiracy/Cowspiracy at all these "environmental" conferences?
Is the guy who said "I don't wanna do this" a professional environmentalist as well?
Half answered with some common sense. I feel so hopeful now 🎉🎉🎉
More like 1/3 lmao
Depressing and mind blowing, you can’t be an environmentalist unless you are vegan. The damage the fishing and animal agriculture industry does if far worse then anything else on the scale it is.
Oh man. That exact line is what made me go vegan. I remember the exact moment it was said to me and I was like 🤯 7.5 years now and I haven't heard a truly good argument against it.
Fishing lines. Eating them! Straws are not the biggest issues.
How on earth would humans not killing fish stop from humans killing fish?!?!?! You'd have to be a scientist to figure out such an equation. This is very, very, very complicated. I don't want to talk about it anymore. I'm offended by this.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

These people sound like they are concerned about having plastic in the fish they eat.
At least there are 6 conscious people.
This proves how careless and self centered people are.
The answer is in the question and the majority got it wrong.
Interesting how both questions relate entirely to human activity
Fishing causes MOST of the plastic waste in the ocean 😐
The people who said straws are deluded
These people just can't give up 'their' fish.
If these are the professionals then this video explains all environmental problems.
Mind boggling 😢
The girl who said both is a genius
But... Is she? Does it take a genius to understand this??
@@tropicanata By the video's metric she's definitely a genius
Interesting, I'm sure a lot of these environmentalist are probably aware to the fact that consumed fish may contain microplastic, nobody wants to eat that. It's something that probably directly resonates.
Would've been smart to mention to them that the majority of plastic pollution in the ocean comes from the fishing industry and their discarded fishing nets and lines. There eating fish and funding the industry profiting off of them is the best way to save them.
That is sick
Most “environmentalists” don’t actually care
This is freaking hilarious. I am sure any 5 year old child would have better answers.
"Thats a complicated question" Really?🤨
Shocking
Only one word: hypocrites
