NOTE: I keep saying 'millennia' for the return of House Aranthus, but if the OLD lore still stands then it's only been about 700 years since they 'disappeared'.
I've noticed that there's a surprising amount of overlap between House Aranthus and the Iron Lords, and more than one link (the possible identity of Lady Credo given in Apocrypha Necromunda, Lady Credo's pact with the Three Blades, the fact that Lord Orlock found a cybernetic crown that makes him mutter about the return of the Iron Lords, ending with him readily backing the Aranthians for no apparent reason, the extremely advanced tech House Aranthus has out of nowhere, and more...).
I think it's likely that the Aranthians are, in some form or another, the successors of some Iron Lords, and the reason of the discrepancy in the timeline between old and new lore is because, although it's been some centuries since the disappearance of House Aranthus, it's the first time in millennia that the Iron Lords have held power. I guess we'll see when the inevitable Aranthian gang shows up.
@@Pizzifrizzo seems like that, yeah!
Meanwhile, in the Imperial Fists’ Chapter Keep on Hive Primus:
Fistus: *It’s really quiet today*
Fustis: *YES*
Imperius: Exactly the correct amount of quiet.
After seeing the big archeo psychic giant: Fistus... Call the black cousins. NOW!
This is the good shit. The lore of how people, not demigods, deal with the bullshit unleashed by said demigods.
Currently, Necromunda does everything right: rules, models, and lore. It's really in its golden age, standing as the best contemporary GW game. Thanks for summarising the most recent story arc!
And to think, this is just Necromunda.
This kind of turmoil happens all the time on every hive world.
Small wonder the Imperium is in such a state.
Incredible video. Nothing better than hearing stories that are localized and smaller scale. Truly what makes the 40k universe feels so vast and impressive!
This is peak WH content. Stuff I can’t get access to without having bought all the books for a game I don’t play. Thank you for making this ❤
Thank you for more Necromunda content! I really miss your Retromunda series.
Seconded
Third vote from me - and I didn't ever PLAY Necromunda. (Hell, I barely ever played ANY GW game - but the history of games like them and how they change over time has always been endlessly fascinating to me.)
Hive Secundeded
a friend and i are gettin into necromunda lately and this couldn't be better timed
You're going to love it!
Just remember, nobody actually knows how to play Necromunda, there are too many rules. Just have fun with vague approximation we all muddle through with!
@@ArbitorIanso, like rugby!
Don't try to use all of the rules, all at once. Just stick with the Core Rulebook to start with and add stuff a little at a time.
In between Scrutinator Servalen and the Orac Myriad AI from the arks of omen books, someone writing fluff at GW is definitely a Blake's 7 fan, and I appreciate it.
See, THIS is the kind of storytelling I like, with what seems like actual stakes for the characters involved. I wish 40k would do more of this. also wish I had people to play necromunda with :')
Real quick correction below but first, I'm loving this video - please drown us in Necromunda content as best as you can, I love it lol.
As for the correction - unless you're talking about something else, I believe Lady Haera didn't poison her siblings; per a free Apocrypha Necromunda, she actually invited them in to the same dinner hall together, waited for them to start getting hostile towards one another naturally, then ensured the violence went her way and her way alone, leaving her as the last one standing in the battle 🎉
I've been in the hobby since '96 and Necromunda was always a mystery (only because I don't like reading wiki articles). This was very educational in the recent lore shifts. Bravo. 🎉
Hi. Bit off-topic, but I last played in the late 90s and have been thinking of getting back into it. What's the scene like for older gamers?
I'm SO glad you covered the Aranthian Succession! A great story from a great setting, sadly destined to obscurity. Besides, I wanted to refresh my memory about it but I really can't read the books again right now, so thank you
35:30 The Squats dug too deep, too greedily...
Was waiting for a big fiery genestealer
They wanted to find candy, but instead they found !!FUN!!.
Probably unintended but Helmawr is welsh for a 'great gang' (or at least, 'large gathering' lmao).
Ooh I didn't know that!
Considering all the linguistic easter eggs that went into the Primarch names & histories, I wouldn’t be surprised.
Same with the old Eldar background material, lots of Irish/Scot’s Gaelic/Welsh words hidden in there.
Thank you for bring Necormunda to forefront. Had no knowledge of Necromunda apart from it was a gang planet. Really great to learn about all the new lore and factions. Fantastic pacing on these videos. Keep up the good work.
Sweet, I've been curious about this storyline for a while
please, make more necromunda videos. been starving for lore videos on em forever
also, thank you for this one
Top video Ian, the way you bring all the narratives together and present it is really top notch, thank you.
Great video. I've wanted to learn the new necromunda lore for ages.
Also, it seems like the Imperial fists on necromunda are slacking with all that going on 😂
I literally thought a Necron was going to emerge from the crypt and I was freaking out haha
What’s to say he is not a Necron? Giant metal man emerging from tomb? ☑️
Legion emerging from underground? ☑️
Symbol of a seven pointed star? ☑️
I first read the title as "Aranthian Succession in 40 minis" and now I feel like that's a format that should exist.
40k in 40 minutes is a format that’s been played with since 3rd edition. Combat patrol and kill team are the most recent iterations of this idea.
@@rorythomas9469kill-team games still take like 2hrs though 😅
Every model is a Necromunda model. And now every video is a Necromunda video.
Adeptus Mechanicus Combat Patrol? Not so, Palanite Enforcer mega-gang!
Thanks, this gives me some great lore flavour as I am currently adding some old squats and Palatine Enforcers to my old Necromunda Imperial guard army. (I dont keep up with the lore often, last time I checked my poor Cadians found out they were now homeless)
Excellent synopsis on the changes to Necromunda.
Love these almost as much as youband mira 's book club😊
Great to see a lore video focused on Necromunda! It gives a nice, smaller scale view of the Imperium.
I'm eagerly awaiting the next chapter of the story or a video about Hive Secundus. The Malstrain Genestealers just look so damn cool. I'll probably get into Necromunda with them.
Really happy to see/hear you go over this campaign - was really hoping you would.
Thanks!
There seems to be an issue with the sound, is that just me? The old videos sound crisp and clear, this one has clear music but your voice seems muffled and I can hear a tiny bit of static/crackling and distortion in the background. Sorry if that is not an accurate description.
It’s slightly muted and not as clear as his usual quality, yeah.
Came to see if someone else hears it too.
i can hear the buzzing too
Fantastic breakdown of the campaign, really enjoyed listening to it.
Great video, but the audio has a wierd noise in the background... Maybe a fan running?
Yeah. Weird hum, sounds like something wrong with mic, or a weird editing artifact.
Or a bad audio cable
OH NO ITS LIKE THE RICH EISEN SHOW!!!
Your narration of these stories is just incredible. I don't even play Necromunda, but this makes me want to.
Thank you for the recap. I am really looking forward to seeing what the Secundus campaign is like. I am hoping for more a Mordheim style, where you fight them roll dice to "explore" the ruins rather than claim territory.
On an aside, I am shocked that the chapter house of Imperial Fists or/and the sisters of battle on Necromunda haven't said anything about a psychic cyborg ruling as planetary governor.
And another aside, Kal Jericos mother is an Inquisitor, so maybe Kal is working for her and the lady Inquisitor now has her X lover Helmawrs body.
Really interesting lore. Thank you for compacting everything into one narrative video!
That picture behind you is perfect placement. At the beginning of this video, I thought you had a Mohawk at first. Lmao
Love this. Necromunda was static for so long ❤❤❤
Always a master in narrating stories
Perfect timing for this - kicking this campaign set of next week with cinderak. going to be a cool 6 month or so upcoming. Got my Helots all painted up ready to cause chaos.....
Yesss, more Necromunda-Content from the Loremaster. The gangers of the House Cawdor Faithful Flames Chapter will watch this video with great interest after our evening prayer. Blessed your Path may be and may His light guide your path through the darkness!
Glad youve gotten back to munda. Me and the boys started a campaign and spied you abd the gang at bad moon. Please do more!
Thank you for the video, listening lore is better than reading lore for me.
Mo’ ‘Munda plz ❤
Thank you for some Necromunda lore!!!
Really looking forward to the hive secundus campaign. Crossing fingers that we'll get some nice indoor kit for the Ash wasters
Necromunda sounds like the next game I'll be starting into with campaigns like that.
Wow, you got me Ian. Cool story. I'm going to have to get my Necromunda stuff back out of mothballs.
Amazing, crazy story! Nice job Ian!
YES! I have been dying for you to do this one. Love it!
Love the painting mohawk.
well that was the quickest 40mins ever! think i need to listen again lol.
Fantastic, I hope you get to the new kill team lore too!
I'm doing my part to please Algo
NUMBER FOR THE NUMBER GOD
And my comment!
AND MY LIKE
I'm coming too! You need people of intelligence on this sort of mission, quest, thing...
House Delaque barely involved? Suspicious. Thanks for the summary! Haven't had people to play Necromunda with for a while, so no reason to get the books and get caught up
House Delaque is actually firmly on Helmwar’s side. They helped thwart the Aranthians several times and disappeared instead of trying to ingratiate themselves with the new lord. Which begets the question: what do they know about the Aranthians?
Really nice to see necromunda make a return to the channel 😊
Damn, now I'm thinking of getting into Necromunda
Would love to have more Necromunda videos!
Thanks, Ian, for another excellent video. Dense, but still enjoyable.
Excellent as always. I read those Kal Jerico books years ago, dreadful.
I'd say there is a pretty good chance that the storyline will be continued, with the reveal of the Lady Haera Spyre-suit mini.
The main question is, will it be in the box set, or not until the inevitable campaign books? And what will the Delaque be left out of this time?
There was an old gang war magazine article that went into some detail about hive secoundus
Brilliant video. Thanks
Excellent video. Just a note: House Aranthius is not allied with the Ash Wastes nomads, they seem to act for themselves and perhaps Necromunda’s world spirit. Also… Delaque seem to be quite firmly on Helmwar’s side
Well. A psychic cyborg nobleman gets levelled-up by the great rift.
A random prophet and his followers started hearing 'voices from a lost saint' and went to wake him
The ash waste nomads start hearing 'voices from the planet' that conveniently ends up in chasing down his main rival.
So they might not be allies on PAPER....
@@ArbitorIan true enough, but apparently the nomads kept hearing the “voice of the planet” for millennia before the return of the psychic cyborg in question and for some reason Hera’s “sister” avoided attacking her when she had the best chances of killing her and instead drove her towards the place she needed to be (granted, this may be the usual convoluted writing some authors use to get the plot where they want it to go, but still… let’s assume they were a bit more savvy than that)
Personally I think that necromunda is the better IP to make a TV show. Its lore less expansive than 40k, so there can be a focus stories, but it is flexible enough for different and new ideas to be make. Plus imagine an actor such as Keanu Reeves playing the role of a delaque ganger! Now that I would pay to look at.
I've never been into Necromunda, but recently read alot of Judge Dredd and having been meaning to look it over. This is timed well 👌
Brilliant, thank you.
Haven't played Necromunda in 15 years, 40k in a ~decade but came to see what goes in the fluff. More The world that once was fluff content please
I feel like this should have saved me money but now I wanna go get the other 2 books (I have Jardlan cos it's got Squats in it).
Servalan! Where's Blake and Avon when you need them?
This really does prove that GW can manage to write good stories if they do it on a small scale.
Great lore video as always!
Since 1st edition, everyone i knew pronounced Delaque as Del-ah-Q.
I cringe everytime i hear it with current /(correct) pronunciations lol
Cheers all!
At this point I am very curious to see if they'll ever do a model range, or at least artwork, for Ozostium Aranthus and his army.
The fact that there are no depictions of giant metal Oz, his emerging shiny legion and the seven pointed star symbol is awfully convenient. These things practically scream “Necron”.
Great video as always. A small bit of Tzeentch influence on the audio however….
This lore is so convoluted.... I'm on my 4th rewatch and im still so confused lol
One thing I’m curious about is how do the Enforcers and Adeptus Arbites interact? My understanding is that the Enforcers are the “beat cops” who ultimately follow commands from Helmawr, whereas the Arbites are like the Feds and even Helmawr answers to them (the old lore says that even Governors are afraid of the Judges…). Shouldn’t they be poking their heads out of their precinct at this point, even if the Imperial Fists are *dog surrounded by fire saying “This is fine”.jpg*?
The Arbites are responsible for Imperial Law. That not only means ensuring the governors aren't breaking the big imperial laws of delivering psykers and stamping out rebellion, but also investigating any crime that threatens imperial laws.
So one person murders another. Arbites don't care.
One person murders another, who happens to be in control of off world shipping, leading to the tithed ore required by the Administratum arriving late or getting lost? LEX IMPERIA BROKEN! ARBITES JOB
In reality the Arbites have jurisdiction and superiority over the local enforcers wherever the hell they want, they just only get involved if imperial law might be broken
@@ArbitorIan I see. That makes more sense. As long as things keep ticking over, the Arbites will stay put (probably playing chess with the Imperial Fists). I know they’re often portrayed as being first responders in cracking down on insurrections and I was wondering how the events of the Aranthian succession fit there.
I would guess that, since there's no sense of any traitor / chaos sentiment, and it's all happening in the few weeks following the Great Rift, where production would probably be damaged ANYWAY, it might well pass under the radar, or the actual arbites would be prepping just in case it turned ugly.
But in their view, Helmawr was relatively swiftly replaced by Haera, who got production back on track, and then when the Prophet appeared, she was relatively swiftly replaced by the Aranthian, who again got production back on track.
Hey Ian, your X link in your description still links to twitter and does not work currently. Just fyi.
Thanks
Necromunda version of Moria hell yeah
9:17 Also known as "Great edging"
This is going to be the Warhammer TV series isn't it?
Hell yeah I LOOOOVE me some Necromunda
I hope we eventually get a necromundan militia gang
a necromunda four gamers would be grand
How long is a cycle? Is that like a "day" or more like a week?
Ian, I love your content, watch it daily, but please, enable font aliasing on your computer! You have it disabled for some reason, that’s why the text on your .pdf files look so pixelated 😢
It's really frustrating that it makes no sense that you could see the Great Rift from Necromunda due to the speed of light.
Warp magic man.
@@WozWozEre At a certain someone's gotta make a call that isn't stupid.
Right now, in M41, it should be about the time that the Eye of Terror starts to be visible from Earth. They should be able to see the death of the Aeldari in real-time.
What could possibly even be in Secondus that would be useful for such a complete shitshow? They just gonna find an entire legion of custodes down there? A Time Machine? The emperor?
There is something wrong with audio. I'm not the only one that can hear it right?
how the hell didn't a single person recignise the seven pointed star? Like, I know the average hiver is ignorant but this was a huge rebellion, with seemingly millions of people carrying a symbol of chaos, was there not a single battlesister, preacher, rempresentative of the inquisition, or ANYBODY who could realise what was *actually* happening?
Nah nah nah that's an EIGHT pointed star. Totally different in every way
Do I understand correctly, that the Squats have been Squatted on Necromunda?
It speaks to the troubles of the Imperium and their disregard for the population of planets (well, considering the thousands there are), that an important recruiting world of the Imperial Fists is undergoing all this, and they.. I guess don't really care at all. It's all civilian squabbles to them at the end of the day.
Outstanding video though, the presentation is on point and the lore here is fantastic!
THE HOLDS OF THE SQUATS!!
Me: So the squats are still a thing?
Female Custodian: The squats have always been a thing!
Me: ... 🤔??
Is it just me, or are theese graphics looks like something from the mutant chronicles setting?
15:35
Hope they let the secessionists win
Ian good. Algorithm, fed.
I love the video, but I have to ask, is pronouncing the word palatine as "pal-uh-nite" a British-ism? Like "left-tenant" versus "loo-tenant"?
Nah, it's actually written into the text. Hive Primus is in the Palatine Cluster. But it's soldiers are PALANITE enforcers for no good reason because that's not a word.
@@ArbitorIan Fair enough, thanks and love your videos!
For some reason the audio in this vid is pretty bad.
