You know Mike, ever since I started watching UA-cam in 2009, I have subscribed and unsubscribed tens of channels multiple times. The only channel to which I subscribed way back then and never unsubscribed even once is yours. Great content.
We got these for my college's video editing lab this July! They had initially planned to go for the previous generation's 27" 5K iMac, but when the refreshed iMac line came out in June and the I.T. guys saw the 21" 4K iMacs now have dedicated graphics and more powerful CPUs and RAM, they went with those. We got the top-of-the-line 21" models, ordered with 16 GB of RAM and 256 GB solid state drives. They sure are fast and powerful! We even already got the Adobe CC suite on them, and we plan to get Final Cut Pro X and DaVinci Resolve for them as well.
Just found this same machine brand new (6/13/2019) for $1,049 - a $450 savings. So while it is a 2-year-old model, aside from only 8 Gigs of ram (I would prefer 16), I am completely happy with the specs. :)
Just picked ours up today. Its amazing. Very Fast, steam works great on it and games I have tried are playing very well. 4K content looks awesome as well.
Hi DetroitBORG Your reviews are excellent and completely unparalleled to any other UA-camr. The best part is that you keep it to the product and not criticise any other competitor. Also, I wanted to ask that do you use an iPad or the Mac and an iPhone are your daily drivers?
Matt Theman The base model seems to come with the i5 7400 which is 65 TDP like the 7700 so i guess you could just upgrade to the i7 but I wonder if it would be possible to upgrade to Xeons once they come out.
You're just wasting your money by spending more for a 4k display at only 21.5 inches. 32" is the minimum you should be going for at 4k, otherwise spend less on a lower resolution.
I got this as an upgrade for my mid-2012 MacBook Air. Well, I went for SSD and 16GB ram, so I am still waiting for the delivery, but this should be a HUGE upgrade.
Thank you very much for another wonderful review, +DetriotBORG! Your video quality really is top-notch; unparalleled in its informativeness, detail, and commentary. Will you be reviewing the new iMac Pro when it is launched this December?
Mike I have a question, what do you do with all of the old tech products that you reviewed years ago? Do you sell them or do you have a secret Apple museum room?
Just got the 21.5", 3,4 ghz. I have never initiated a `pc` out of the box so easily. This is the most stable, easiest piece of technology I’ve ever put my hands on. The only struggle I had was when I had to install some Windows based mandatory software to support some specific apps etc. That’s when the jibber-jabber, 'restart your computer' and ‘if that didn’t work than try this' bull came up.
More than likely I do believe I will be buying this towards September - November this year. Have a macbook pro and I have been wanting the iMac for awhile now.
That probably explains why people get so salty about apple products, they just can't afford them :'). Not sure why not though, I'm a fulltime uni study that only works part time.. I live out of home.. but can still afford Apple products, they're not that expensive.
Mike, I have been a huge fan forever. I love how u go so in depth in your reviews. I am a newer UA-camr and would love to be like you in the future. I love how u do so well with UA-cam and practically my neighbor , (I'm at like I94 and 23 mile. It would be awesome if I ran into you one day! Happy Filming!
Man i love these computers. The design is so sleek and awesome! I hope to get one some day. Im stuck with a Walmart acer 😂 I know they arent as good as maybe a PC but damn i love the software and how they look! Great review as usual man, love every one of your videos!
Purchased this exact same model and specs refurbished for $250.00 cheaper. So I received mine for the price of their base model. This is our 3rd Apple from their refurbished section...all come in the exact same manner and box except on the box in very light grey it says "REFURBISHED", with the same warranty. I'm typing this on an 3 year old refurbished MacBook Pro purchased from them and my son uses an Ipad. You will never notice the difference.
For the same price as the 2015 model...this one blows it out of the water. This one would serve you a LONG time, and could very well be used for gaming!
Windows 8 & 10 sold me on MAC. Happily, I got the upgrades you recommend plus; 3.6GHz quad-core 7th-generation Intel Core i7 processor, Turbo Boost up to 4.2GHz o 16GB 2400MHz DDR4 o 1TB Fusion Drive o Radeon Pro 560 with 4GB video memory
Samuel Chattergoon I just use a thunderbolt link to an ssd enclosure so I can buy a much cheaper faster drive without having to rip the iMac to bits. Also I can upgrade the drive as I need to. I use the internal slower HD for backups. Thunderbolt is now fast enough for most users who buy the lower spec iMac, power users will be able to afford the highest spec with large internal ssd drives. Been using this system for three years now on a five year old iMac running as a server 24/7 and have had no issues.
Not really, it’s mixed in a fusion drive, meaning you only use the hhd whenever you have to store big files, the ssd runs the OS and all the apps you’ve installed, so it won’t be any slow in two to three years. You’ll only see a super big difference if you’re using the pure 5400 rpm 1tb option
I just bought the mid 2017 4k IMAC. Best Buy matched B n H Photo's price of $1,099 (Best Buy has it for $1,299). Best Buy had the WD My Passport 512 external SSD on sale for $89.99. It doesn't get the same read/write speeds as an internal SSD. I moved Mojave over to the SSD and it's pretty darn fast. The mechanical internal drive is just there. To reiterate, because of price matching, I paid $1,188.99 for the iMac (Retina 4K, 21.5-inch, 2017), 3 GHz Intel Core i5 quad core, 8 GB 2400 MHz DDR4, Radeon Pro 555 2 GB, and a 512 SSD external drive with read/write speeds of 540MB/s.
Strange--at around point 7:23 in the video, the shot of Cinebench R15 shows the correct processor model, it seems; but identifies it as a two core/four thread model instead of a four core/four tread model. Is that just a bug with Cinebench R15? More importantly, thanks for the excellent review.
Veritech Girl wow! 27"? You need to find someone from the NBA for your requirement! What are you going to do with a 27" monster? It's going to hurt really bad, but if that what makes you feel happy....Go for it girl!
I made the mistake of getting the 21.5 with the 5400rpm Drive because it came with the 555 Radeon...and I thought it would be enough....BUT...after watching Your Vid.....I'm gonna exchange my current iMac for the Fusion Version....thank god for 14-day return policies..lmao
I'm really looking forward to your review of the iMac Pro when it comes out. I'm really excited about it and your reviews are always great so I know where to go to learn all about it!
The 1499.00 looks good to me. But, is 8 gigs of ram enough for Logic Pro and also coding? Thanks for any feedback. Thumbs up on the excellent video!! I'm selling my two 27" models because of neck pain from looking up! Peace!
Your review made me buy one of these today! Originally I had ordered the 3.0Ghz, and upgraded to a Fusion Drive... But then I realized for the same price of the upgrade, I could just upgrade to the next model and get Fusion standard, and a spec increase too! So happy I watched your review!!

Haven't watched this yet but I'm sure it's gonna be awesome like always never has not
I love your Mac videos. Very high quality production and the pace is just right :)

Just picked ours up today. Its amazing. Very Fast, steam works great on it and games I have tried are playing very well. 4K content looks awesome as well.
Finally! I've been waiting for a video. Your vids are the best.
Best Unboxer and reviewer in youtube.
Hi DetroitBORG
Your reviews are excellent and completely unparalleled to any other UA-camr. The best part is that you keep it to the product and not criticise any other competitor.
Also, I wanted to ask that do you use an iPad or the Mac and an iPhone are your daily drivers?
Best tech reviewer ever hands down!! 🙏
The non 4K imac can now be considered the decoy product so Apple can upsell you the 4K imac
You have the best and most thorough reviews.
Mike, you're the best! 😀
I appreciate that, thanks!

DetroitBORG Hi!
I have IMac 21.5 Late 2015. It’s normal or I need to buy 2017?
@@swix2072 lol nub it depends on ur ass if u can afford it or not, if ur old one is slow etc
You are mike
You can switch out the CPU and RAM
Yep, retro reviewers are going to love this thing in 10+ years :)
Matt Theman The base model seems to come with the i5 7400 which is 65 TDP like the 7700 so i guess you could just upgrade to the i7 but I wonder if it would be possible to upgrade to Xeons once they come out.
No Xeons probably, considering they need a different chipset on Skylake/Kabylake
Was waiting for the awesome review. Thanks Mike.
You're just wasting your money by spending more for a 4k display at only 21.5 inches. 32" is the minimum you should be going for at 4k, otherwise spend less on a lower resolution.
hands down the BEST REVIEWER EVER!!!!!!
Does it support hight Sierra
Ah, what a great Unboxing of Apple Products by Mike.
Great way to start a day
Are u going to review iPad Pro 10.5 ???
Would love to get this as an upgrade to my late 2012 mac mini.
I got this as an upgrade for my mid-2012 MacBook Air. Well, I went for SSD and 16GB ram, so I am still waiting for the delivery, but this should be a HUGE upgrade.
Hi there, could you tell us if the 16GB Ram model comes with 4 x 4GB or 2 x 8GB when you get it ? I can't find this info anywhere. Thanks !
It has to be 2x 8GB because the 4K iMac only has two ram sockets.

Thank you very much for another wonderful review, +DetriotBORG! Your video quality really is top-notch; unparalleled in its informativeness, detail, and commentary.
Will you be reviewing the new iMac Pro when it is launched this December?
I am already waiting inline, haha.
That's wonderful to hear; I can't wait to watch your review of it! The iMac Pro truly is an exciting development in Apple's Mac product line.
It's going to be a beast, but the price scares me.
DetroitBORG I would seriously consider it if it started 2 grand cheaper but I don't really need the specs.
I don't need the specs either so that's why I'm not sure where to stop when it comes to specing it out.
Typing my comment on my iMac of the same model. Perfect daily working machine. Perfect for watching Netflix as well.
Mike the best....nice review and detail as always. You the best Mike
I love you carful mention to the small details that have changed lol
great review, keep it it!!!
The labeling upgrade of the ports is my favorite improvement
Another Detroidborg Apple review! My favorite!
I can't watch PlayStation E3 press conference and this at the same time
I could lol.
Ah, sorry! But I will be reviewing the Xbox One X :)
game for 2 ywar old
DetroitBORG have you done a video on the iPad Pro Smart Cover
Years*
Great amount of attention to detail. Awesome work.
Say what you want about Macs, but they are beautiful machines in terms of build quality.
True
True dat, i have the imac thats in the video and it is slow as hell
@@cravenasian1195 Just how. Is that a joke?
I wouldn't spend the money on an iMac like this but I still watch because your reviews are awesome!
Thank you for everything you have done Mike , i really like your videos ... keep going God bless you
This has helped me choose which iMac is better Thxs I’ll hopefully getting one next year Thxs again
love every unboxing&review video you made, so detailed and elegant!
I thinking about buying a new mac. I think I might buy an imac , but i'm still thinking about which imac ...
I've always wanted an I mac
great review sir. one of the best.
Mike I have a question, what do you do with all of the old tech products that you reviewed years ago? Do you sell them or do you have a secret Apple museum room?
Angsty And Proud He has his own eBay store where he sells all his review products.
the store is called 'isellonnet1'?

Terrific video review. You are always thorough and easy to follow. My favorite You Tube reviewer!! 😎
Just another apple product I can't afford
DON'T LOOK AT MY PROFILE PICTURE Such an original comment.....
you and me both
what do you do for a living
90% of the people who watch these review videos can't afford these things.
That probably explains why people get so salty about apple products, they just can't afford them :'). Not sure why not though, I'm a fulltime uni study that only works part time.. I live out of home.. but can still afford Apple products, they're not that expensive.

It's good that apple is not changing the general design so your old iMac if not too old will not look outdated.
Awesome! I really think your videos are informative and to the point.

Why don't you have more subscribers? Your reviews are so detailed😍😍
Thank You! It's funny to me that 1-Mill subscribers is now so little, haha.
I'm not saying one mil isn't a lot😂. I'm just saying that you deserve more😂😂👍
Putting a 5400 RPM drive in a thousand dollar computer should be a crime. The computer will be painfully slow after two to three years.

Obed Chattergoon That's the only problem I have with this Mac. That HDD. Even my 2008 PC has a 7200 RPM HDD.
I agree, but i installed MacOs on a external SSD and use the old internal mechanical HD as storage, problem solved...

you're awesome detroitborg !!
I really like your reviews.. detailed, nice n smooth..
I just bought the mid 2017 4k IMAC. Best Buy matched B n H Photo's price of $1,099 (Best Buy has it for $1,299). Best Buy had the WD My Passport 512 external SSD on sale for $89.99. Can the RAM be upgraded later or does it have to be done at order.
Nice and enjoyable as always. Thanks!
Bought it on the 2nd day it was announced. Great product
Strange--at around point 7:23 in the video, the shot of Cinebench R15 shows the correct processor model, it seems; but identifies it as a two core/four thread model instead of a four core/four tread model. Is that just a bug with Cinebench R15? More importantly, thanks for the excellent review.
hey Mike, looking forward to the 27 inch review! My birthday's coming up and thinking about getting one!
Happy early Birthday! I have fully spaced out model arriving by Wednesday, I hope to have a video on Friday or by next Monday.

Buy IMac pro. The IMac pro is much more better i will buy this as my room doesn’t have enough to equip that, only a 21.5 inch.
Star Yo it’s 5000 I definitely won’t be getting the pro
This is the best UA-camr ever
I been watching sence 2012

7:18 Didn't you say it's a quad-core? Cinebench shows just a dual-core, i'm a bit confused here.
This video was very helpful, many thanks.
I like the video so much I'm going to reference it in my assignment. Thanks, Mike.
I'm really looking forward to your review of the iMac Pro when it comes out. I'm really excited about it and your reviews are always great so I know where to go to learn all about it!

Should I get this or just get use my 2017 macbook pro and get a 4k monitor

Desperately waiting for your unboxing review of 5k 2017 model
have an older iMac and am considering upgrading, is there a painless way to transfer data from the old computer to the new one?
Great video!
Can you please make comparison between macbook12 and macbook pro 13 base model?
Vladimir Fedan oh yes please, that would be awesome!
I want one so bad.... great video.
Your the best UA-cam’s mike
Yay more awesome depth vids from the legendary Mike! :)
Would there be much performance difference between this iMac w/fusion drive verses external booting with SSD over TB3?
I'm saving up for this new iMac!
I think it might take me a few years
Not sure...
But whatever! Can't wait to buy it when i save enough money for it!

+qtrules Perfect! What I wanted to hear because I made the same mistake at first.
Great review! 👍
what would actually be a better buy? Macbook pro 2017 or the IMAC 4k as shown in this video?
awesome, best imac 2017 video, got all the details
Such a well done review, man! Keep it up!
What is the lock 🔐 under the power port?
I am waiting for an unboxing of the new iPad Pro 10.5!!!👍
10.5? thats for poor people, get the 12.9 or your a loser.
Luke Lou really !? I have an iPad Air 2 man! I don't like big screens....and that big thing doesn't even have A10X fusion right!?
what is the monitor behind the mac? i like it
as always great review.
Nice video!
Next please do review for ipad pro 10.5 with apple pencil.
