I feel like there's a conversation to be had about Amon-Ra St. Brown being the strongest WR in the NFL pound for pound. You're right that there isn't another slot WR like him, and that's because there isn't a slot guy that's close to him when it comes to power. Dude's workout regimen is insane and his dad was Mr. Universe so that's probably why. It definitely helps him play through contact at the line and catch those contested curl routes that always convert to 1st downs, I remember when he basically bench pressed Akhello Witherspoon to get separation for the game-winner against the Rams lol.
The Lions are Extremely Lucky to have a system of play-calling that is unusual but suits their QB #1 WR. Not a lot of WRs especially like running these short to medium routes. As for Goff, he's like Cousins in a way that McVay didn't want to work with. Goff *prefers* a system that tells him when & where to throw the ball. McVay wanted someone who could read defenses & adjust. Goff simply can't improvise.
@@choosecarefully408 Well yeah, the Lions system is very unique and ultilizes their best talents to the best of their ability. It's a testament to good coaching in the NFL and that's a credit to Dan Campbell and the staff he's brought in. Amon-Ra's skills are maximized by the offensive scheme. On Jared Goff, (which wasn't even part of my comment lol) he definitely was more of a first-read QB with McVay in LA but he's developed far beyond just that in Detroit because they've given him more trust in the offense. Goff gets through progressions as well as any QB in the NFL now and his feel for the offense is outstanding, dude calls audibles at the line all the time based on what he sees from the defense and the Lions offensive success as a whole has largely been because of him. He's definitely more of a pre-snap processor than a post-snap one and that's more because he really isn't mobile and isn't the best decision maker under pressure, but those are really the only weaknesses to his game at this point imo.
@@michaelshan22 Hey, I know you didn't mention Goff. It's just that it often feels people overlook play-calling _WAY_ too much. Personally I prefer the McVay approach over Ben Johnson's. But as someone who has coached & trained I find I adjusted to each person's needs fairly well. With McVay, I don't know if he _couldn't_ adjust to Goff, wouldn't, or didn't have other players that could work within those limitations. As for Dan Campbell, I regard him as a Mike Tomlin style of HC. If anyone can figure out wtf he actually does between failing to articulate simple concepts & making terrible in-game decisions, please let me know. Because so far as I can tell, like Sirianni, he puts all play-calling in the hands of his coordinators.
@@choosecarefully408 I think what led to McVay's decision to trade Goff largely had to do with the fact that they were in a SB window and couldn't afford to develop a still relatively young QB at the time in Jared Goff before that window closed. Knowing how good of a coach Sean is I feel like it could've happened if he was in a long term rebuilding situation like Detroit's. But speaking about the other HC, Campbell has said himself that he'd prefer it if people viewed him as the clueless meathead coach that you seem to, lol. It contributes to people underestimating this Lions team like Marcus and many others clearly did initially. One thing that can't be denied is his ability to build a strong locker room culture and team dynamic, as well as hiring great staff like I said earlier. And for what it's worth, Campbell statistically had the most win probability added above average among coaches regarding in-game decisions in the regular season, so I'll leave ya with that.
@@michaelshan22 I'm one of those rare people who doesn't fill in the gap left by The Unknown. So no, I don't regard him as a meathead. In fact, I regard people as complex until they give me reason to do otherwise. Tomlin isn't a meathead despite the same unknowns applying to him. With Sirianni I _saw_ he was a guy who simply sent his teams out & expected their Superior Roster to win each game head to head. He almost lost to the Cardinals _last_ year doing this. With Campbell I honestly do Not Know what he does. Good locker-room culture is _so_ over-rated. Did you read any of the article about Sean McDermott (of the Bills)? That guy _kills_ team spirit. The players got together to buy a coach they liked a truck he'd had his eyes on & McDermott brought everyone involved into a meeting to make it clear to them he wouldn't stand for this. That decision to fly to London less than 48 hours before a game was his & it not only lost them the game, but key players to injury due to playing while sleep-deprived. Despite this all the locker-room leaders HAVE somehow kept the winning desire alive. & even then: are you _sure_ he's done that? What was it, _four separate players_ walked out of one of his meetings & immediately gambled on games getting themselves suspended? That's how immature people react to what they feel are oppressive rules. There is no One Right Way to coach, uplift or create a team atmosphere. We're all individuals. Nothing works for everyone. McVay's system didn't work for Goff & word is that he met Stafford who impressed him with his knowledge of defenses. He already knew Goff didn't retain anything he'd taught him. Perhaps because he was so young McVay didn't realize some QBs actually could. It also became clear to him no one _taught_ Stafford how to do this. He picked it up as he went. McVay's system may be better over all, but had he never met Stafford would he never have tried to adjust to having Goff? If I want to be really hard-assed about it, I can definitely say McVay's way is better. I can read Ben Johnson's passing plays before the snap. Like with Travis Kelce if I was playing LB or S he'd be intercepted more than he'd make catches or if I was the DC neither Kelce nor St-Brown would catch more than three passes in a game. They're dependent on timing & small windows. They're so easy to throw off the Bears did it twice. Bellichick kept Goff to 3 entire points over two of the last three games he faced him. The Lions' system has to go As Planned with no or else. The only reason this hasn't been proven yet is we're in a terrible period for coaches & play-callers. DCs in particular are terrified of thinking outside of the box. I *_REALLY_** thought* that McVay knew this about Goff & would plan accordingly. The 49ers didn't either (but great as he is, Shanahan _IS_ extremely slow to try new things). Goff is simply higher maintenance where McVay doesn't want to hold his QB's hand. Fyi, Hockenson's 2023 cap hit was 4.9m making him the 20th highest paid TE in the league. That goes up to 13m and 14m the next 2 seasons, but that barely gets him into the top 10 on current contracts. He won't become "the highest paid TE" until about 2027, BUT Kwesi can get out for a 7.2m dead cap hit in 2026, or a 3.6m in 2027 before those larger 19m and 21m numbers come into play - so the contract hype is really just BS.
Absolutely! From the Bears perspective, it makes the most sense, because it encourages JJ to not slack off on tackling, for example, due to no long term security. From Johnson's perspective, it's a huge increase in salary. I heard him say that he'd be plenty happy with a franchise tag, in one of his weekly interviews on the score podcast. As a 3rd point [from the Bears side of things], it will be great to see if Jaylon can play a full season for the first time as a pro. If he does not play 17 games, then that gives the Bears some leverage with the extension. Either way, JJ's improvement was outstanding in 2023 and he deserves some financial security for him and his family.
Brad Holmes had built this team so well with the best-player-available approach in the draft and almost ignoring positional value. My concern is whether he can get this team over the hump with that approach. They have good/elite talent all over the place. But if he doesn’t invest in the pass rush or secondary this draft because he thinks there is a better player available elsewhere, I think it keeps a ceiling on this team. I think it will take a different offseason mindset to get this team over the hump than it did to rebuild the roster.

If the packers or lions can both fix their secondaries in the off-season through free agency and the draft I expect one of them to make it to the superbowl through the NFC.
Good video. I’d just say that I disagree about braxton moving in to guard. I think his biggest weakness is weak anchor and it would kind of preclude his success at G
Need to push back a bit on your Josh Reynolds assessment. The following couple of stat quotes are from an AtoZ Sports article by Mike Payton, "It's time to lay off Josh Reynolds, he should absolutely be brought back". "He had 40 receptions in 2023 and 32 of them went for a first down." "Not only did Reynolds have those catches for first down, he was a chunk yard specialist. He had at least one catch of 20-yards or more in 10 games this year." He also blocks very well. I don't view that as WR 3 or 4 production. Of course I like a roster chock full of 1.75 - 2.5 players. I think your assessment might have been colored by what you saw last.
Tremaine Edmunds does things in pass and speed wise that TJ Edwards cant sniff. Slow LBs dont work in todays game. Everybody loves the tackler, the ILBs who cant cover become the third guy
things I disagree with for the lions. 1) Goff shoulda have stayed at that 80-81 level, he didn't really play that great vs LA and San Fran and overall the last 3 regular season games were pretty poor. 2) jamo is primarily used as a decoy, so though the production isn't there the impact is as he's a huge reason for st brown's and Laporta's success. 3) Alim McNeil is not 7 points below Kenny Clark let alone lower at all, pretty much the exact same level as a player in an even tougher position he's in 4) LBs underrated, especially Anzelone, he played amazing pretty much all year, and should have absolutely been bumped. 5) I understand sutton and Jerry being decreased but at the same time, i don't believe it's because of their ability, more so the positon they're in, both IMO are good-level CB2s but in this scheme they were both played as the CB1, jerry at first then sutton, simply put it 99% of corners would have sucked in the position they were in with the lack of help.
Gotta love lions fans getting mad over you calling Branch a slot corner instead of a safety when he literally played 400 more snaps as a slot than he did as a free or box safety combined
I’m a lions fan so I’m biased. But I feel like from an unbiased perspective Goff has jumped over Dak and Kirk as the best Field general in that tier below the playmaking elites at QB. And Stafford and Rodgers.
Look at those needs, no chance they draft a QB at 1. You said it yourself, if they didn’t have the 1, there wouldn’t be a conversation about a JF trade. QB is not a need on this team if we wanna contend now, OL, WR, TE2, in that order.
I disagree with you backing off the Jamhyr Gibbs pick discussion. It’s a bad pick. Even if he becomes the GOAT it’s a bad pick. They could’ve picked him at 18 (where they drafted an average LB) and picked Christian Gonzalez to actually have a CB1.
Saying the Lions could've picked Gibbs at 18 is an assumption, not a certainty. The mock drafts we read are exactly that too, and no one knows where Gibbs would've actually gone if he wasn't picked 12. If he possibly became the GOAT RB like you say, do you think it was only the Lions who saw that talent in him and not any of the other teams from 13-17? It's not a bad pick, and the element that Jahmyr brought to the Lions offense his rookie year shows that.
@@michaelshan22 He’s not the GOAT though. Every team knew he was talented. They knew Breece Hall and Jonathan Taylor were talented too, and those guys were 2nd round picks. It was a massive reach for the least important position in all of sports
@@brendonbuffaloe8830 With how the NFL has trended recently, it's been clear they're starting to value RBs again, especially the dynamic athletes which Jahmyr absolutely is. Bijan Robinson was taken at 8 in the same draft after all, and big contracts have just been handed out to the likes of Saquon Barkley and Josh Jacobs. It's funny you mention Breece Hall, because there were reports that the Jets were interested in Gibbs at 15 to add to the offense alongside Breece and thus wouldn't have been there at 18. That's otherwise as much of an assumption as yours, but fwiw it's from a pretty reliable draft source in Dane Brugler. Just recently, the Lions 2023 class was voted best draft from scouts within the NFL. I doubt they'd have selected them if they really thought the highest pick in the class was "a massive reach for the least important position in all of sports."

Minnesota needs Pass Rushers, with that i am very confident in Blackmons Trajectory
hey honey, can’t talk new studs and duds just dropped!!!
To be fair gibbs only had 2 fumbles all year but obviously in the biggest game of the year not great
Tom didn’t let up a sack to bosa or parsons though
So you're That Franchise Guy cause of Madden franchise mode?
Tremaine Edmunds does things in pass and speed wise that TJ Edwards cant sniff. Slow LBs dont work in todays game. Everybody loves the tackler, the ILBs who cant cover become the third guy
And yet Edwards was better than him the entire season.
I was like damn it’s over at 1:18:00 and then realized we had a whole ass team to do.
well ass is the right was to describe them i guess.....
Only need another 5k 👀
Given how you talk about Jordan Love I was sure you were about to make him a 90 overall.
things I disagree with for the lions.
3) Alim McNeil is not 7 points below Kenny Clark let alone lower at all, pretty much the exact same level as a player in an even tougher position he's in
4) LBs underrated, especially Anzelone, he played amazing pretty much all year, and should have absolutely been bumped.
Remember when he didn’t believe in the lions preseason😂
How do the Vikings have very few players compared to the other North teams?
Felt I did a good job explaining this in the video.
The chiefs making me wait for Raiders studs n duds is just adding to my hate😂
Lets see how my bears are doing
Do you think the Commanders would’ve poached Kingsbury if they thought Chicago was taking Williams?
Detroit Lions are loaded and young.
I love you Marcus
It’s time
Vikings star of the season has gotta be Josh Metellus
As I said, we raised him a ton early in the year but didn't shine as much after the first few months. Overall though, yeah he still had a great year
@@ThatFranchiseGuy oh I guess I thought star of season was the biggest improvement from wk1 but I might’ve misunderstood. Great stuff as always.
Best 3rd TE in the league? That's Colby Parkinson slander.
I literally almost took the time to put that on screen lol
I’m a lions fan so I’m biased. But I feel like from an unbiased perspective Goff has jumped over Dak and Kirk as the best Field general in that tier below the playmaking elites at QB. And Stafford and Rodgers.
lol he is nowhere near as good as dak or kirk when u watch tape. Maybe if you only looked at stats sure
I’m terrified to correct you that Tez had 12.5 sacks not 16, pwease don’t lower him
Pff for some reason gives me more sacks than other stat trackers
they don't count half sacks@@brxcc
Loins!
Algorithm sacrifice
Let’s go lions
This Lions team will be fun to watch next year especially after another offseason
DJ Moore?????
Love the content btw. Just confused as why their best offensive player wasn’t on here
Look at those needs, no chance they draft a QB at 1.
@@michaelshan22 That’s just laughable because the Texans had BY FAR the best draft last year. Not even close. I don’t understand how that’s even a conversation. not sure who the scouts are that voted on that, but I’m sure they don’t work for the successful franchises
Sir, you are dead wrong about the Bears Star of the Season. It was DJ Moore, the best player on the team. SMH
NFC North fans rejoice... this division is fun asf
Bears playoffs next year with Caleb Williams? 👀
Amon Ra 1ST Down
How the Packers went from worst team in the NFL to 2nd best team in the NFL in one season.
I'll never know
????? At what point is the last 30 years have the Packers been the worst team in the NFL, let alone, recently?
Also, I don't see the Packers playing in the Super Bowl. How did you conclude that they're the 2nd best team in the NFL?
@@drtruth4282 week 4- 8. they were hooooorrriiblleeeeeeee..
and dude they bear the chiefs, easily. beat the lions easy, were a bad spot a missed kick away from being in the sb, only team above them i would put is the ravens or playoff chiefs. ravens just had the worst time to turn into a pumpkin. but yeah by ever metric their players were the best per game sine week 10. math dont lie
took the lions worst game to beat them, if they faced eachother again lions woulda won fs@@Captainkebbles1392
Wow he would have the Bears as the only team with a red arrow on the thumbnail. He obviously hates us…Marcus I’m kidding lol. On a serious note I’m curious on where you had Eddie Jackson coming into the year, did you have even low? Because he definitely disappointed again this year 😢
First comment!
all lions players way too high. they should all be 50 overall
Which would be 50 points higher than your IQ
Hmmmm seems like Brian Gutekunst has proven TFG wrong
Sewell cannot be 8 points above darrisaw
should be even more, sewell was the most dominant tackle in football this year and consistently dominated top edge rushers. Darrisaw didn't play great to end the season either.
Ahh, now I understand your poor evaluations, especially on Brad Holmes’ 2023 draft. Your background is in playing video games. Lol! Had I know this before I wouldn’t have been so harsh with your other vids. You have zero conception of real life NFL GM, and real life ball.
