    I'm glad plenty of fumes come out when you booted it.
    Means my 1989 VN APV group5i Commodore is running pretty well.
    And its been a daily driver forever and has just clocked over 400,000km
    Cars are made to be driven.
    Love my VN

    This is the commodore of my highschool years 😍 All the boys had one. Many trips up and down the coast. Had lots of fun riding around in these. No other car drives like a commodore either. I drove a VZ for 12years and nothing I've driven since is the same.

    These motors were bullet proof too. Not just an exhaust, airbox and tune like a lot later HSVs.
    These had upgraded block with 4 bolt mains, balanced crank, group A rods, flat top pistons, raised compression, bigger valves, heavier valve springs, crane cam, tuned length headers, and the iconic twin throttle bodies with a HUGE airbox. The SV5000, VP GTS and Senator 5000i had the same motor but without the twin throttle bodies. Instead they ran a single 90mm throttle body that was a bit bigger than the standard holden 304 one, and produced a bit less hp at 200kw and 410nm. Not sure about the VP Gts but the others ran a 4 spd t700 auto.

      Still low power output

    • @plumtube01
      @plumtube01 3 роки тому +1

      @@rayban5737 Yeah it definitely was by todays standards. The main idea with this motor was the strong internals to make it bulletproof for road racing categories. Just an exhaust and ECU were usually added. Stock 5l motors could be tuned with exhaust ECU etc to produce similar peak power, but the big difference was the way they produced it and the feel under foot. Stock ones were not nearly as responsive and didn't like to rev out as much.

    They were making the HQ when I was born.
    Short and sweet review that touched on all the main points.
    It's plain that you hold the car in reverence and I agree, they are there to be used, not lie there, bar exceptional circumstances like the very last unit produced.

    I wish you were correct about this winning Bathurst in 1991 as I own one of these but unfortunately it wasn't a fair fight in 1991 with these normally aspirated rear wheel drive v8 cars up against 4wd turbo Nissan Skyline GTRs... especially in the wet. Good news is I am getting mine back on the road this year. It featured in a few magazines back in 1999/2000 with the number plate BLOWER denoting the somewhat large 30lb Paxton centrifigual under-bonnet supercharger it had on it at the time to win the Horsepower hero comp down at Summernats but it twice had mechanical problems at the last minute and missed out.

    Not to be rude, but the VN didn't win Bathurst. The R32 Skyline won it in '91; the 1990 Holden victory you're probably thinking of was the older VL Walkinshaw.
