    Brocky at his very best. Those mobil hrt commodores were absolute screamers. Larry Perkins really worked his magic on those old 304's. Even the later chev engines, he absolutely turned them into motor racing gold. And Peter Brock brought home the chocolates with his brilliant driving skill. A great team player and was a top bloke who had great sportsmanship that everyone admired. Sadly missed.

      I still reckon the 18 degree Chev era was the best sounding. 2000 - 2011ish. Before the actual Holden Motorsport Aurora block. Even mid 90s spec Chev' are nicer. It's deceptive because they revved the Group A ones higher. I reckon the Chev has a better note though.

      You got the response you did cause no other 304 5litre race car vn sounded better than the 1991 vn group a there's nothing that comes close to it Perkins and hrt did a good job although they did loose a few motors in the process I no hrt had a very small budget to work with during this period the vn group a race car cost I think 120k to build the gtr was 500k that was big money in 91 big-time you can't compete with that and expect the commodore to win against a twin turbo 4wd 630hp gtr with the latest technology as well it was unfair in my opinion and I don't care what anybody says those vn were awesome for what they were I no it's a dinosaur but I do not care put more races up please of the 1991 season if you have the sandown500 full race that would be much appreciated all I've managed to see is 1hr highlights if the vn could have managed to hold together it would have won that race unfortunately all 4 cars blew up I herd the revved them to 9000rpm don't know if that's true or not

    Seriously, watching this and seeing the car, a gutted VN with some sort of a race seat and steering wheel, something that looks like an old sim racer. And then those tracks were rough as, you really had to "drive" the car, H pattern shift, always using the clutch.. and to win and be as consistent as he was for many years shows how good this guy really was.. oh and lets not forget he just chatted on racecam like he was on a sunday drive. As a teenager, i saw Brocky racing at Wanneroo in his HRT VS, before the race he was signing autographs 50 people deep, like ants on a lolly! Hearing these cars thunder past at full noise is unbelievable, video just doesn't do it justice.

    Wow! Amazing compilation Thank you! The greatest sounding V8 touring cars before the fluffy 10:1 compression and 7500rpm limiter of the current cars. Thats what an unrestricted V8 should sound like! They'd be revving over 10000rpm if they were allowed those rules now.
    How good brocky to commentate and race at the same time! Also His rapidfire downshifts and heel/toe's through each gear were symphonic!! Brap!-Brap!-Brap!
    Current cars need less aero, less weight and more power from an unrestricted V8 engine. Then you'll see some serous slipping ands sliding all over the place!

    According to AMC's look into the race development of the motor, the factory team was taking them to almost 9000rpm down Conrod during qualifying.
    Incredible for a pushrod motor.
    Incredible to think that over 161 laps, they finished only 1 lap behind the much much more sophisticated Nissan R32,aka Godzilla.

He was so cool and collected when doing absolutely amazing speeds around winding tracks and long straights, and he was always ready to talk to commentators about the car he was driving. @AW-gj1mu 4 місяці тому

      The tyres are everything, we ask them to corner, brake and accelerate. A racer or engineer who understands the tyre under them can drive to the condition of track / tyre limit to get the most out of the grip envelope. Exceed the limit and pay the price, run it to the edge of adhesion and you have one of the ingredients required to take home the silverware.

      Pretty sure Advantage Racing retained the cars for '92 onwards and rebuilt them, spraying the interior blue in the process and upgrading the rollcage (etc). This is partly why Larry himself went back to the VL for '92, having split from Brock. I think one Mobil VN exists as a Group A car in '92 livery and one exists as a V8 Supercar-spec VP in '93 livery. The V8 Supercar-spec one is in '93 Brock/Cleland Bathurst livery and appears at historic events quite often. I'm not sure how many cars Advantage Racing had in total.

    The unique firing order of the Old Mighty 304/308 Holdens definitely had a impact on how awesome they have always sounded, i now Work and tune race LS powered beasts and in my opinion they sound shit 😂 compared to the Holdens ..Brocky was king and there will never ever be another King full stop , Legend

    • @TouringCarsofAus
      @TouringCarsofAus  3 роки тому +3

      We believe it's likely a mixture of running an enclosed airbox and additional muffler/s in the exhaust to keep it quieter for tracks like Amaroo and Oran Park. For Bathurst, compared to the ATCC the exhaust was exiting just outside the front passenger door as opposed to the rear passenger side door where the exhaust had been exiting for most of the year. Since it was much shorter it would likely explain why it was so much louder and combined with running an open style air intake with an air filter over the intake stacks, it made for quite a noise!

      It's called heel and toe braking.
      When using a manual gearbox, as you brake (with you toe), you blip the throttle (with your heel) as you down change to rev match for the lower gear you are shifting into. Prevents compression lockup (where the rear axle locks due to the engine rpm being too low vs the gear/ road speed of the car.
      If you do a search for heel and toe, I am sure you will find someone explaining it/ showing it in slow motion.
