Most protagonists just die from shock after being yelled in the face, our detective boi's too powerful, they literally need to actually cause violence to do any damage.
It’s got the best mascot horror jumpscares, its not just creature with open mouth eats you whole. It has mickey mouse’s diseased inbred cousins beating you shitless
The fact that so many of these games are 8 bucks makes me think of an Eric Cartman quote: "anything fun is at least 8 dollars". So these games are the minimum "fun" requirements
It's ironic how a quote that actually can serve as good life advice comes from the world's biggest narcissist in South Park. Replace the word fun with good, and you can easily use it to describe how nothing worth having would not have a catch to acquire it.
@@luisupro8787 though i would'nt say ass from when I played it its just not as fun as it used to be and not all too interesting anymore gee i wonder why? *cough cough aus cough cough*
A lot of these games plots are usually something like: These people went missing, lets go back to the place they went missing and see if we can find them. But what I would like to see is a game where we play AS the missing person. I'd make a game like that myself but I have no idea how to code yet.
Then learn how to when you can, if you want to make something, do it. There are thousands of tutorials online on how to use various engines and how to program different mechanics of a game. Unity is a good starting place for its balance of simplicity in versatility (though do be careful about its recent policies), and unreal is really f#^king powerful. If you really want to make a game, make a game. Yes, game development is hard. Even simple projects can take days if you're inexperienced. But that's true for any other art form, and it's definitely not impossible for a person like you to make a game. The many solo devs out there prove that.
i like the playtown story for the fact that the reason sounds more grounded, coming back to grab something they left, definitely more believable than trusting a random letter
Something that I want to point out about _Five Nights at Freddy's_ is that the reason why the antagonists are animatronics was because that was practically what Scott Cawthon was limited to. His previous game, _Chipper & Sons Lumber Co.,_ had character designs that were criticized for being uncanny as animatronics. This in turn, provided a limitation that Scott used to his advantage by making a horror game that truly utilizes his unintentionally uncanny design philosophy. That right there really goes to show how one's limitations can amplify their creativity. (I also fondly remember telling this fact to my sister while we waited in the movie theater for the _Five Nights at Freddy's_ Movie, and we both bursted into laughter at how Jim Sterling's review of _Chipper & Sons Lumber Co._ accidentally spawned a horror game franchise, and how it lead to the movie we were watching.)
Yeah it really shows how people are taking the shallowest interpretation of a trend and copying that. FNaF was perfect because Scott was good at animatronic characters. The fact that they characters were mascots was not the main pull of the game, it was just the set dressing. The gameplay and terror-inducing atmosphere was what people loved about it. Meanwhile most mascot horror cashgrabs are just “Oh scary thing but in kid’s playplace!” and that’s usually it. No substance. Just “Ooh childhood but scary!”
@@DeathnoteBB Honestly its just been a big downward spiral of Mascot Horror It starts with FNAF, wherein the game was created out of spite toward reviews of his character designs and artstyle, which then lead into BATIM (Which messed up in setting a deadline then having to rush to meet it), which later caused Poppy Playtime to pop up and show that being a massive cashgrab franchise can actually work, and from there the ball rolled downhill *fast*
hi, this isn’t entirely true! scott had many many games before chipper, and most of them focused around robots/animatronics because its what he models and enjoys modeling best. when he tried to make non robots, like in chipper, they just still felt like them so he gave in and started doing robots again.
I’d love to see a mascot horror game where *you* are the mascot, and view everything through the eyes of a child friendly mascot. Basically the environment and enemies and yourself all look like something out of a rated E adventure game, but when you reach the very end the illusion is shattered and you learn you’re a monstrous entity that killed your handlers. And nothing from teasers or trailers exposes that twist, so absolutely no one will know what they’re signing up for
i had a similar idea: you play as a genuinely innocent mascot, but some faceless maniac with a grapple gun comes in and wrecks your toy factory. somewhat akin to kill the plumber, except it's poppy playtime instead of mario
This makes me want to write my own mascot horror game, ironically. One themed after educational science videos that you’d watch in class, like Bill Nye or Amoeba Sisters, set in an abandoned high school with a jailbroken phone as the “gimmick”. The plot would carry themes of control and autonomy, asking what makes a person, and what makes a monster? And the puzzles? Coding puzzles. Easy ones, but hey, you get to learn python as you play.
Same. Unfortunately I don't know how to make games so I wouldn't be able to even *try* You're idea is really cool btw. I keep bouncing between a bank setting and an isolated island
I've thought of horror mascot games and horror in general. My only problem is that my brain overthinks "is this even gonna be scary?" And I end up scrapping the idea. Still think about it tho
Last time I wrote a short horror story, there was no monster. Only the creeping feeling of paranoia when you’re told that “there’s nothing there” unprompted. Because you need to confirm, the possibility of those people who told you “there’s nothing there” being *wrong* ? I kinda miss paranoia horror, you know?
Ah, paranoia horror. The type of thing that only exists in your mind. But what if it isn't all in your head? What if that shadow you thought you saw for a second was a monster, lurking in the corner, waiting for you to look away....or maybe it's just a rat snuffling in some trash. The best way to scare the hell out of somebody, is to keep the enemy hidden, only given tiny snippets, and letting the players mind fill in the blanks, because whatever we can think up is likely far more terrifying than it actually is.
Mmm, nothing is scarier is the best horror because it's your own mind conjuring up the perfect horror to scare yourself. It's often why when a horror is revealed, it's underwhelming because you tailored that creature around what scares you the most so anything else would be nothing. ...well unless they somehow managed to nail it for you lol.
Interesting how Bendy and Poppy were both considered poor mascot horror cash grabs (which given the marketables and NFT’s makes sense) but now they’re iconic, likely due to the clear focus and effort put into their chapters
I mean on Bendy has a pretty interesting design of the enviroment and enemies. I really loved the style of it. Poppy was, eh not too original but ok i guess. I can't believe it that it got that popular having plushies and all.
Hey! I was a developer on playtown, and the creator, Tnp, he's a bad guy, I'm just showing from my own experience, he treated the developers including me, Horribly, he also was quite racist. But yeah. Im no longer working for him. -hoogy
You know the unfortunate thing about wallace. He has a good design. Like, it's a breath of fresh air from the animal/creature mascots in the genre, but they didn't capitalize on it. Instead, they make him another generic enemy. They could have made him have more of a personality, making him out to be a sadistic performer who every other creature fears because of his power. Hell, GIVE HIM UNIQUE ABILITIES THAT PLAY INTO HIS MAGICIAN MOTIF!
While I do see the potential to characterize him more, I'm not a big fan of the design. It's not scary or intimidating. He looks too much like a wannabe tumblr sexyman.
I'd like to see a mascot horror parody where the mascots are just minding their own business and want to be left alone, but plucky journalists/teens on a dare/influencers keep breaking into their home and making a mess. The "lore" about the mascots being murdered children/serial killers/demonic spirits/etc. is explicitly a bunch of false rumors that spiraled out of control.
Other cool locations where mascot horror games can take place instead of the boring old kindergarten, play care or toy factory: Dark rides in theme park, Waterpark, Carnival funhouse, Aquarium, Planetarium, Animal petting zoo, Convention about mascots The subversion of childish and innocent-turned-horror can be achieved elsewhere than just in kindergartens.
these sound like such cool ideas!! ooh, ooh, what if like. instead of exploring the abandoned area and investigating disappearances or whatever, we actually get to see it happen. like, we see the area full of life and people or whatever and then everything slowly starts going wrong, maybe something else could be done instead of the usual "oh no!!! mascot is spooky monster and kills peopel!!!"
Carnival funhouse was used once, in this game where you were a mother looking for her child and you end up getting possessed by a storybook wicked witch and stabbing him for some dumb reason
also, ones that seem obvious but are surprisingly rare: toy stores, candy stores, college campuses with sports mascots, video game development buildings
aquarium is making my imagination run wild, omg. There was always something slightly haunting about aquariums when I was a kid, even though I loved them. Like if I got separated from my parents, I'd be lost in identical hallways and shark tunnels forever other possible locations: a mall (especially ones with a kid play center with those plasticky play objects), an arcade, a county fair. Idk if other religions do this but mormons have a play room for young kids while adults are doing church stuff, and a church would be _rife_ with imagery and spaces that could be either innocent or haunting depending on the circumstances. Plus you get to play off of religious imagery, which is a time-tested winner for horror games
There is one good mascot horror game that came out somewhat recently that went under most people’s radar. It’s called shipwrecked 64. The easiest way to describe it is that it’s like if something like petscop was a real game you could play.
People could be iffy about it because of how long the gameplay and playthroughs are. As wonderful as the game is it takes a while to get to the rlly good stuff
18:52 Most of these games are doing the sequels route rather than chapters as it allows them to abuse the Popular New Releases and Upcoming tabs on Steam, bringing them more attention. If they merely did the DLC chapter route they wouldn't get such opportunities for traction. It's certainly not the right thing to do but there is reasoning behind it.
Haunted machines are such a fun concept but I wish people would do something other than "Whoops I dropped another dead kid, I sure am having trouble holding all these serial child murderers, whoopsie"
@@justin2308 ruin saw that dead kids were being overused and came up with such a clever fix to keep the hostile animatronics fnaf is known for without beating a dead horse
List of things I didn't expect to hear today: 1. Pokemon Collosseum music in a video about Pinwheel from Dark Souls 2. Mat Rose saying "Skull Emoji" in a video about shameless mascot horror games.
I don't remember markiplier wording. But I sum it around as these horror games taking idea from FNAF, Guardian of Bam Bam, and Poppy's Playtime lack suspense. Sure you can have your game be about you being an ex-employee, a parent, or a detective/cop or hey even a repairman going to an abandoned place where these mascot for kids are alive because of some experiments done with kids and/or adults and you're there to find the kids or find the truth what happens. But when your game horror aspect is forcing the monster away or the task they have you do is mind-numbing difficult, then your game isn't about horror, it's about taking someone else idea that got popular and you decided to just rip that off and make it worse.
That’s how I feel about a lot of the monster designs too. They’re not really impactful. It’s always just a humanoid figure with sharp teeth and a big mouth. I was listening to this without watching the video, and when she mentioned the bear, in my head it was a cool creature that was scary because it hunted you down. …And then I come back to watch it at 21:57 and it’s just a weirdly smooth teddy bear with too many teeth. Like, sure it is scary in the sense that it’s a subversion of what one expects from your teddy bears, and big mouth with teeth is dangerous to humans. But overall “big barely detailed bipedal thing has huge mouth with sharp teeth” is just so overused as a concept.
Case in point: 26:55 “This Guy”! He looks creepy as hell, even with the aforementioned “big mouth sharp teeth” cliche. But he’s not humanoid, its some weird unsettling seal thing. It’s scary in an uncanny valley way and the unique design makes it more memorable.
Hi there! I'm one of the composers on Playtown 2. I had no involvement with the first Playtown, but I've been following development of the second game quite closely ever since I was brought onboard. And something that immediately stood out is that the developers basically just make things up on the spot as they go along. There isn't really a complete blueprint that they're working with, so they usually make one section and then plan the next one afterwards. And I assume this is how the first game was made as well. This can either lead to something that feels like a mess because of a lack of planning, or something that feels oddly charming because of its weird direction. But I do recommend giving the second game a chance when it releases in June, as the lead developer (TNP Games) has said that he did try to improve on the first one. It's a bigger game, with more stuff to do. There are more characters, with voice acting now included (featuring a few UA-cam cameos). And it's also going to be sold at a reduced price, since TNP Games has acknowledged that $8 might have been too pricey for what the first game was. Also, fun fact: Combo Bomb Games, the developer of Toytopia, is a friend of TNP Games and also worked on Playtown 1 and 2. The MUZY developer was also in TNP Games' community Discord server. So it all feels like a tight knit community.
And the raw meat from 20 seconds before that is just the “raw meat” from Genshin Impact, the PNG used in the game’s wiki is the first search result when you Google it and likely what they used in the game.
@@LunaChuu00 Yeah i figured it looked familiar, damn these people really are lazy. And the main enemy is called Steg, despite not looking like a stegosaurus and as a dinosaur nerd it bothers me alot
I like that while you had your criticisms, you also point out the parts that could work. You're firm in your assessment, but also very fair and kind. It's really nice! I expected a much harsher review, if I'm honest. I also like that you ended the video with some more promising upcoming games! I was already looking forward to Indigo Park, but "Don't Fret" where you apparently ARE the mascot sounds like a really cool twist on the genre, and now has my attention!
The whole reason exotic butter was funny was because Sister Location was super serious and dark. And then for no discernible reason there was just. Butter. And not just any butter, *exotic* butter! And it was mentioned in a way that was relevant, it wasn’t just put in a room with 0 context with the words “Exotic butters” on a barrel
@@DeathnoteBB exactly. And like, I think because I'm a newer FNAF fan, the whole exotic butters thing is kinda lost on me. But still it's miles better than the rice
@@supersmashseandx1991Basically it was funny because it was just incredibly random. Also, iirc it was mentioned in the very beginning of the game. It wasn’t too out of place because FNaF did had some goofy moments, but it was still random. The punchline, I guess, was that at the end, you’re sitting in front of the tv in your house. And on top of the tv? A gift basket of *the exotic butter.* It’s just so random and comes back at the end, also seemingly at random, it was just funny for some reason. Like how things are way funnier when you’re sleep deprived.
"i know it's SCARY to take a risk" "you're going to start HATING YOUR CREATIONS" ...anyone else just realizing that a mascot horror game about a worse mascot horror game coming to life would go hard as hell?
The thing these games are missing at isn't just the horror, its the map design. Mascot horror is specially scary when the setting seems like it can be a bit real because it helps with the imersion of the game.
I love your channel! I hate being a snob but if someone has poor audio quality I straight up CAN NOT watch their videos. So seeing a new comer with great audio, cute stills, and a knack for writing good scripts is amazing! I loved your Kinito Pet video and this one so much, and I can't wait to see what you do next :D
The poster shown in the playtown trailer during your commentary after playing literally is copied word for word from fnaf security breach (“remember to wash your hands… or paws”)
The Oxford Dictionary Defines Underrated as; You. Fuckin' You. Your editing is amazing, your music choice is OWH. And you LINKED ALL THE MUSIC IN DESC. You are a beautiful Human being. And Deserve so much more attention. Remember me when you're a star, Legend!
I always love videos like this! Discussing what makes certain aspects of games not work as well is just as important as knowing what tropes and conventions do work. Hopefully we'll see people continue to learn and improve as they create what they love! Also glad to know I'm not the only one who likes the funny rainbow buttons when someone says "like and subscribe" lol
Yeah! I see a lot of people who kind of immediately dismiss games like this as all bad but I think its a more nuanced topic if you're experienced with how hard making a game can be.
11:32 Ah yes… “Tenth Level Lockdown” the perfect background music… Sorry I’ve just been rlly infatuated with Undertale Yellow recently and enjoy listening to its ost, I can recognize it in youtube videos now and it’s gotten to the point where I actually need to scroll back in the video because I wasn’t listening to the commentary.. I was only listening to the music. But on an unrelated note, this is the first video I’ve seen from you and I really enjoy your content style! Keep up the good work. ❤ 19:34 OMG SAMEEE I LOVED MONKEY JOES!!!!
Every time I see another mascot horror game, I always try to make one up myself even if my go-to medium is writing since I can’t code. 1. Runaway teen stumbles into an abandoned facility and decides that it’ll be fine to sleep in for a night or two. 2. Random events start happening around, nothing too major. 3. Teen wanders around and solves a few puzzle because they can’t sleep. 4. Accidentally unleashes the marketable mascots and now has to survive. Another thing I don’t really like is why they’re always silent. I play _Little Nightmares_ and a few other games with SP, but it always slightly annoys me in mascot horror when the other characters are voiced, like in _Poppy Playtime._
You need more subscribers. I was surprised you aren't a bigger UA-camr with more than two videos, because the level of polish and production value on the two you have had me fooled. Keep it up.
I have an idea for a mascot horror game, but I have no idea how to develop games. Here’s the idea: You play as a reporter/journalist who wants to make it big, so you decide to make a report about an old abandoned play place called “Puppet Land” (I might change the name later). In Puppet Land, you find four marionette mascots; Bella the Ballerina, Pat the Princess, Carly the Clown, and Missy the Marionette. Each of these marionettes have a specific play area. The Dance Studio, the Castle, the Fairgrounds, and one other (still figuring it out). That’s the main theme, but I’m still figuring everything out. What do you guys think?
@@naomi_doesgacha I was thinking that the whole gimmick would be like the minireenas from FNAF Sister Location. Like each marionette has a little army of smaller marionettes of the same model.
What a great video. Not only do I just like hearing people talk about games, but also giving out tips to aspiring game devs. For me, I've been creating games for a good amount of years but I've recently started working on my own original horror game (yes, mascot. im sorry) and am enjoying the vision so much. I've made it farther in production than any other game i've created and I'm really excited to put it out once it's ready. Great video, you earn a subscribe from mee!
the monster design in mascot horrors have turned from “a believable transformation of what could be a childhood mascot turned into a monster” to “could easily be made into a marketable plushie”
Time for all of us to make our own mascot horror games. Mine's gonna be... FOUR Nights at Floatie's, you're trapped in the poolrooms and increasingly hostile pooltoys keep you company. It'll end after two days because I run out of steam halfway through. 10$ please.
Your videos are so well formatted, your persona is such a cool design and your voice is so entertaining! Idk how I haven't heard of you before, instant sub!
How to make a good mascot horror: 1) Make a likable main character. Saying honestly, I'm tired of playing as a faceless nobody, who doesn't even have a shadow. I want to know who I'm playing as. Because really, I would never go to a scary abandoned building where something happened alone, I'm not that dumb. Player ≠ The main character. Give the main character a goal, a personality. Why the heck he needs to go to that abandoned toy factory? Give us a valid reason! Heck, even "Something called me here and I couldn't resist for some reason" would be okay! Tell us that the person sneaked into the abandoned building to find his best friend, who went missing there a few days prior, for example. Or make the character a first-responder, who just HAS TO be in the places where catastrophes happen, they have no choice. Or make the character a dumb teenager, who got inside to get some views on the spooky video, but eventually got sucked in a paranormal event that will get him killed or traumatized! The personality matters as well. How your character reacts to the monsters? What does he do? Does he fight? Runs away, maybe? Or freezes into spot? 2) Don't give the player a weapon or give something, that the player will have to use sparingly. Make them feel completely helpless. For example, give the player a gun, and then drastically cut on the ammo to make them save each bullet. Or make the sound draw everyone closer to the player. And don't give any alternatives. Give each weapon a disadvantage the player will have to cope with. 3) Fit the aesthetic of what you're making. If it is a daycare - make it look like one. The designs of monsters ALSO must fit. 4) Make a straightforward storyline. Character comes - ends up in a sticky situation - deals with it - ending. Don't make it last 34 chapters with 2928261 twists, long horrors are not horrors anymore, they're adventures with horror elements (unless the chapters are short). 5) Give the player breaks from the spooks. Add cheery locations, friendly characters or safe zones where the player can rest and relax. And then throw them in the scary segment again. 6) Suspense, it's all about suspense. If you make a labyrinth with a monster, which you then should traverse back, at first traversal, don't put any monster in. Make the player think, that someone is with them, using sounds. And when the player has to go back, THEN put the monster in. And don't make the sections with the monster too long! People get tired of being scared easily. Make the game on contrasts, so the horror sections would feel as a sudden whiplash. 7) Basically, make the game as traumatizing for young children as you can. Just to make sure, that if the kid watches an Elsagate garbage and decides to play the original (questionable, but maybe?), they'll get traumatized for life and never touch the game ever again. Or ramp up the difficulty, so young players simply wouldn't be interested in the game. I have an idea myself, but I'm a lazy butt. James, the older brother of the main character, Lila, is obsessed with paranormal. After hearing about a small toy shop, which holds something sinister (as people say), he immediately ventures there to find something and satisfy his curiosity and... Dissapears. His younger sister, Lila, loves her big brother a lot, so after police doesn't find him, she sneaks inside the same toy shop out of desperation. She takes some food, water and a weapon in case she gets stuck there. And ventures inside. Gimmicks - you can use different toys for different purposes. Teddy to calm down (maybe there would be a specific bar), robots to explore small spaces, ect. Also I liked first 3 chapters of Garten of BanBan. Fight me :").
I give you the highest honors for only just starting out and already proving yourself both competent in entertainment and video quality. Rare skills to have on a brand new channel.
Absolutely had to comment because I’m so happy I found your channels!!! I am absolutely enthralled by your narration and your OC is so cute I had to send a picture to my partner!!! I can’t wait for the next video and for sure the next stream!!
Your mention of MagiQuest has earned you another subscriber -- thank you so much for remembering it exists! Honestly, that was my thought too when you mentioned the wand. "With a wand, you could do things like open chests, like in MQ" AND THEN YOU MENTIONED IT BY NAME. So, thank you! And I'm looking forward to more of your videos! ^_^
17:15 isn’t that the raw meat inventory item texture in genshin? I can’t tell if it was edited in by Dusky or if the devs of playtown just ripped it from Genshin Edit, ok so after going through the playtown section of the video, I can definitely say that the playtown devs just stole that asset from Genshin
Algorithm made me stumble across this channel and man, mad props for both the videos you have made and instantly becoming a new comfy channel/person to watch. And as a fellow (Very much still learning and studying) gamedev, I cannot believe you even manage to have the time to make such High quality stuff besides also streaming and working on a game Looking very much forward to any new stuff be it videos, streams or whatever you will be making in the future! :D
For as flawed as Security Breach was, the entire map actually LOOKED like it was designed for family entertainment. These games look like they put in the “gameplay” and then put the models and texture overtop to superficially resemble a place of children’s entertainment, instead of making a place kids would play in and then finding out where the gameplay naturally fit into the environment
Yeah.i hope Andrew takes his time for chapter 2 and makes it as long as chapter 2 of poppy playtime but a bit shorter like 50 or 40 minutes.Let's just hope Andrew doesn't work too much and cancel the game.God bless Andrew and his development journey.(sorry for saying some unessessary stuff or making spelling errors and etc.)
Imagine you play as the founder of a mascot factory. Something went horribly wrong and your soul was trapped in the body of one of your creations. Your goal is now to help your descendant release you and end the haunting of your factory. The factory was shut down 20 years ago when you and five other employees disappeared under wildly mysterious circumstances. Now, 20 years later, your son/daughter has come to figure out what happened. They don't know that your soul is still trapped inside the massive animatronic designed to look like you. They know only that the factory has begun to come alive again despite the power, water, etc. being disconnected long ago. The factory features areas where the animatronics could interact with visitors. As the premier animatronic factory in the world, every restaurant, amusement park, and museum that needed animatronics bought them from your factory. Freddy Fazbear, Chuck E. Cheese, etc. They all bought their animatronics from your factory.
Ran across this in recommended and expected to find more amazing content. Unfortunately, I didn't find much, but im excited to see you grow as a creator!!! I'll be looking out for more content of yours. Already subscribed, too. Good luck with your content creator journey. You deserve the recognition!
I saw this video on my dashboard and decided to give it a watch and I do not regret it. You did a great job with not only explaining why these games aren’t that great, but also did it in a very humorous way, your jokes were on point. Got me to sub to you! I look forward to more videos from you, Dusky!
No small child who likes dinosaurs would be allowed within a thousand feet of the location in Playtown. Take it from someone who works the front desk at a museum famous for its dinosaurs-- those kids would not stand for naming a generic dinosaur that has literally nothing in common with a stegosaurus Steg. Then again, maybe that's why the place closed in the first place.
This is kinda irrelevant, but I love your voice?????? I'm glad this came in the recommended, this was a really good watch ;w; It's so well edited!!!! I'm looking forward to seeing more from you!! 🐶💙✨️
First video I've seen of urs and I'm surprised you don't have more subs! Your voice is so energetic and you deliver lines so well, not to mention the avatar design!
Hi new veiwer. 1: Love the video, the retro backgrlund music hits me in all the right spots as well as the indeoth explinations. 2:Your mascot is actually well designed ngl. Ima stick around and see where this goes. Im a huge fan of megaman, recently me and some friends out of passion have started to actually write up an idea for a Inspired by megaman [Namely legends and the Zero games], called Exobots, You have to have passion for what you make or others will notice the lack of it.
How dare they try to call that abomination a stegosaurus they need to learn their dinosaurs better, elementary kids could show them what a real one looks like
@@GlamrockDusky Good luck! You just need one more video to go up, assuming you've hit your 4K hours. Then you'll have to go through AdSense and wait for that website to refresh once a month. Assuming you've met the $100 minimum, you should be able to take the money out of AdSense once you've completed everything, but I'm not sure when that monthly update usually is.
Sometimes I watch a youtuber play horror games when I'm falling asleep and I have been for years; at some point he played JoyVille, I remember it bc of the worm puzzle, but through my half-asleep confusion I thought it was part of the Poppy Playtime series until seeing this video. I was actually surprised to hear it was a different game lmao
Great video, I'm amazed by the amount of good UA-camrs that are slowly creeping out of the shadows to bring people enjoyment. Definitely keep it up Gal. And don't you dare go Hollow.
What in the forgettable French fuck, I was not expecting to be reminded of Monkey Joe's existence in a fucking Garten of Ban Ban knock off video, the one near me shut down like 8 years ago now, and you just reignited so many memories there. Thank you Glamrock Dusky, matter of fact, I appreciate so much that you earned a sub, plus your content is damn good, keep it up.
Hey y’all. Composer of playtown’s ost here! Your video was amazing. Seriously keep up the good work. You really have potential! And uhhhh yeah, we’re making the game better and in my opinion, we’re cooking! This was my first time working on a game and it was cool!
With this being my introduction to you gotta say, love it so far! Voice, presentation, humor, overall aesthetic and a great character to wrap it all up! Edit: And Undertale Yellow music? Adding great taste to the list xD
Love your model and take on games, A lot accounts like this are popping up but yours has so much polish to it. Hope you make a lot more videos going forward!
When making mascot horror you should do the following: - Be original/creative and not ripoff other games to make it memorable and enjoyable and not boring. - Have people playtest your game to see if it's possible for people who have no idea what to expect. - Have hints over just explaining what to do to not take away from the emersive feeling you want to create. - Make it realistic as in no stupid platforming or puzzles that would just be way over the top like jumping over lava and stuff like that. Just have things that actually suit the location. - Talking about location, make the location itself something that isn't overused. So no daycares or schools or themeparks. Obviously this is not a requirement but it'll be harder to get popular if your game isn't original enough as I said earlier. It might be possible to do an overused location in a way not many have done before though. - Plan out the story and lore before hand and know where you're going with the gane so thst it nakes sense and isn't just some fever dream. Don't over do it and start with something small but expandable so you can have some story that nakes sense without the rest but you can add on the rest later if you devide to do more chapters. It's also better to have small hints throughout instead of spilling the lore all at once. This way players will remain engaged and want to know more. - Have good gameplay. Now this should be done with all these other points in mind but you'd also want to have balance in dificulty and controls that feel natural. You want the mechanics to suit the theme while being done creatively. It would also be good if making the dificulty start easy but slowly get harder over time ao players can get used to the mechanics before they reavh the harder puzzles and challenges. - Do not use AI and instead get real people to voice act who can do a decent job at it. - Have limits. You don't want the gane being TOO dark or unsettling. You need a good balance of dark and passive. - Don't design the theme to be scary. This may sound weird at first but in order to make a good mascot horror game, you need to bear in mind thst this is a location made for CHILDREN. The theme and characters should look passive and friendly in the right lighting but only look creepy or scary in the right context. Horror games like FNAF and Poppy Playtime do this. Seeing the characters normally during the day would seem normal and family friendly but in the dark they can be terrifying on the right circumstances. Of course theres probably many other things for making a good mascot horror but these are just the things that I've noticed people taliking about looking st comments and videos of people pkaying these types of games.
MUZY Publisher here, the game was not created in Unreal Engine, but in Unity, and Andrew designed most of the props stuff even though he might have sneaked some assets here and there, as well as the monsters too. Thanks for the review! It was awesome!
I hate how these poppy Playtime ripoffs are getting screen time (not talking Abt you, but I've seen people playing these games on videos of big channels in my country) while games that are pretty decent in graphics and have original stories are left behind, an example is The Friends We Left Behind and it's sequel, Imaginary Friends Asylum, I really liked the concept and it's great to see something that isn't Garten of BanBam/Poppy Playtime but worse.
I'll give this to Muzy, it has the funniest 'You got caught' jumpscare I've ever seen. Just an ass beating from gangrenous Mickey Mouse

A lot of these games plots are usually something like:
These people went missing, lets go back to the place they went missing and see if we can find them.

@@DeathnoteBB Honestly its just been a big downward spiral of Mascot Horror
It starts with FNAF, wherein the game was created out of spite toward reviews of his character designs and artstyle, which then lead into BATIM (Which messed up in setting a deadline then having to rush to meet it), which later caused Poppy Playtime to pop up and show that being a massive cashgrab franchise can actually work, and from there the ball rolled downhill *fast*
hi, this isn’t entirely true! scott had many many games before chipper, and most of them focused around robots/animatronics because its what he models and enjoys modeling best. when he tried to make non robots, like in chipper, they just still felt like them so he gave in and started doing robots again.
And nothing from teasers or trailers exposes that twist, so absolutely no one will know what they’re signing up for
Kinda reminds me of Hungry Lamu. I'd love to see something that delves more into a concept like that!

Other cool locations where mascot horror games can take place instead of the boring old kindergarten, play care or toy factory: Dark rides in theme park, Waterpark, Carnival funhouse, Aquarium, Planetarium, Animal petting zoo, Convention about mascots
The subversion of childish and innocent-turned-horror can be achieved elsewhere than just in kindergartens.
these sound like such cool ideas!! ooh, ooh, what if like. instead of exploring the abandoned area and investigating disappearances or whatever, we actually get to see it happen. like, we see the area full of life and people or whatever and then everything slowly starts going wrong, maybe something else could be done instead of the usual "oh no!!! mascot is spooky monster and kills peopel!!!"
and furry conventions.
Like if I got separated from my parents, I'd be lost in identical hallways and shark tunnels forever
other possible locations: a mall (especially ones with a kid play center with those plasticky play objects), an arcade, a county fair. Idk if other religions do this but mormons have a play room for young kids while adults are doing church stuff, and a church would be _rife_ with imagery and spaces that could be either innocent or haunting depending on the circumstances. Plus you get to play off of religious imagery, which is a time-tested winner for horror games

I really like your character design!
How to make a good mascot horror:
1) Make a likable main character.
Pausing 13:37 since i had to double check but im pretty sure Playtown just straight up yoinked a Nessie doll model frim Apex Legends
Muzy's alternate title:IS DAT MICKY WIGGY!?
Playtown's alternate title:[insert jurassic park musik with some music box melodies here]
The meat png that is in 17:15 is literally an image of raw meat in genshin impact
Absolutely had to comment because I’m so happy I found your channels!!! I am absolutely enthralled by your narration and your OC is so cute I had to send a picture to my partner!!! I can’t wait for the next video and for sure the next stream!!
does your partner like it
yoooo i remember monkey joes too
i was TERRIFIED of the mascot lmao i would start scream crying every time he came out to sit on his damn throne
I haven't managed to catch your Livestream yet but your videos are knocking it out of the park!
I can’t tell if it was edited in by Dusky or if the devs of playtown just ripped it from Genshin
Edit, ok so after going through the playtown section of the video, I can definitely say that the playtown devs just stole that asset from Genshin
16:47 Did not expect Matt Rose audio to be used in a video about horror games but here we are.
Algorithm made me stumble across this channel and man, mad props for both the videos you have made and instantly becoming a new comfy channel/person to watch.
And as a fellow (Very much still learning and studying) gamedev, I cannot believe you even manage to have the time to make such High quality stuff besides also streaming and working on a game
Looking very much forward to any new stuff be it videos, streams or whatever you will be making in the future! :D
For as flawed as Security Breach was, the entire map actually LOOKED like it was designed for family entertainment. These games look like they put in the “gameplay” and then put the models and texture overtop to superficially resemble a place of children’s entertainment, instead of making a place kids would play in and then finding out where the gameplay naturally fit into the environment
i hope the dev behind muzy improves, they obviously have a lot of passion and potential in game development
I really applaud you for not just ragging negative on these games, you give them credit where they deserve it and that's rare on youtube
In toy topia the main character Wallace looks like black hat from villainous but a knock off doll version
Watched this before going to bed, had a dream about your sona mixed with Roxane wolf in a random mascot horror place
27:27 - Jesus Christ, Wallace booking it from the shadows actually scared the shit out of me XDXD
congrats on 1K ducko!
Dragon
How dare they try to call that abomination a stegosaurus they need to learn their dinosaurs better, elementary kids could show them what a real one looks like
Eyyy! You got 1K subs! Congratulations! Hope you get monetized soon!
Working towards it! 🎉 especially since my parents are gonna start wanting rent soon lmao
@@GlamrockDuskynice!(I guess)
20:00 IS THAT THE PLOT OF BANBAN!?!
Your avatar looks like a glamrock sonic character and it scares me
Sometimes I watch a youtuber play horror games when I'm falling asleep and I have been for years; at some point he played JoyVille, I remember it bc of the worm puzzle, but through my half-asleep confusion I thought it was part of the Poppy Playtime series until seeing this video. I was actually surprised to hear it was a different game lmao
Actually, you seem like a fun youtuber, I think I'll subscribe.
Great video, I'm amazed by the amount of good UA-camrs that are slowly creeping out of the shadows to bring people enjoyment. Definitely keep it up Gal. And don't you dare go Hollow.
Is steg meant to look like a suit?
Because he looks like a suit
I want a steg fursuit
That would be amazing
What in the forgettable French fuck, I was not expecting to be reminded of Monkey Joe's existence in a fucking Garten of Ban Ban knock off video, the one near me shut down like 8 years ago now, and you just reignited so many memories there. Thank you Glamrock Dusky, matter of fact, I appreciate so much that you earned a sub, plus your content is damn good, keep it up.
0:08 Sussy's Schoolhouse
Best game of all of them
😭that one comment for toytopia, "cant sex the bear"
dog thats my review
29:07 Correction: Catnap, Huggy Wuggy, and Freddy Fazbear. It's literally all 3.
Try "Hide time" the very worst of Copy playtime.
You will hate it
What about blue monster escape?it is bad and good at the same time for no reason.
But she'll still hate it >:D
Love your model and take on games, A lot accounts like this are popping up but yours has so much polish to it. Hope you make a lot more videos going forward!
When making mascot horror you should do the following:
- Be original/creative and not ripoff other games to make it memorable and enjoyable and not boring.
