Betty, I can’t think you enough. I followed you step by step. I learned so much during this lesson that I can take away with my. I finished my piece and absolutely love it. I so appreciated this, thank you so much for sharing. I can’t afford classes at the moment so am so grateful for lessons like yours. Your lesson has been my favourite ever.
Great work, so beautiful, thank you for sharing. Must say it really annoys me how people press the do not like button ,why would you do it, if you don't like it stop watching. Anyways, very inspiring video!
Hi Betty, I just wanted to share something with you that recently happened. I have a friend who was a professor in Art (she's in her 70's). And I highly respect her expertise. Her late husband was also a very well known watercolorist. We had dinner over my house, and she knows my strong desire to learn aspects of painting. Trust me when I say...I am learning. NOT crafting. I was always interested in art, as far back as kindergarten. But was never encouraged to pursue this until I took a class in High School. But as life would have it, I had to go to work to help my mom, etc. Get a real job....and until I finally retired and finished my responsibilities of caregiving - did I find some time to start learning, again. I showed her a number of my learning ventures - from watching UA-cam, reading books, trying various lessons at whatever means I come across. I have always believed that Talent is one thing, but there are basics to every design. With the hundreds of books - and Now videos... it can be intimidating as to where to begin. But, I just focused on what appealed to me. I'm not trying to be a great watercolorist, or oil painting - Product knowledge alone is Work!!! But I will say - your technique video - appealed to me due to the End Result. I love that kind of layering and colors. What I'm getting to - DO more of this! My friend - Loved the result of my efforts!!! She told me that the basic designs were valuable, and she explained to me why. A LIGHTBULB went off when she explained how it works. NO ONE Person has ever mentioned this in videos !!! And trust me, having the $$$ to go to college - just doesn't work for me now. Not at 66 years old. I barely can live on my retirement SS. I will say I followed exactly how you did things - I managed to go with my Gut on some layering. When she explained why it was such a good painting, I now understand. She gave me some thoughts on other paintings I did - and what was not working, and what was really good. Having THAT basic knowledge - I will go back and tweak things up, now. So... just a thought to throw at you - is perhaps, you might teach some basic understandings ? ... in the understanding of Abstract - I think that will give people more opportunities to Explore. Otherwise, it's like learning a whole new language.... and so easy to want to give up even trying. As I approached my task at the time of the video... I just saw it as putting paint down, and that was it. Now - I realize how some ideas toward design...really makes a difference. :-D Thank you again, Juliana PS - I'm not a journaling person - I'd rather just hit the canvas and run with it. lol But I get why people do it. I work on small hardboard first. Maybe I could take it to a paperbook - but I am limited in workspace. Crap, my whole house is turning into a small studio .. not sure if this is a good thing, because I'm not fond of clutter.
Hi Juliana, thank you for sharing your story with me. I appreciate your feedback. I created this video 3 years ago when I was creating in that style. My art has changed over the years and I feel like I'm still learning (and always will be). I don't believe I'm an expert at my art, however, I love to share what I have learned and allow people to take from it what they like, what works for them. Thank you again for your comments!
I'm just a beginner and I've referred back to your video many times for instruction. Thank you so much for explaining your technique. I love this painting.
I love this...such a fun piece! I need to brush up on my doodling now! Colors are great and I love the little splatter bits at the end...perfect touch! Thanks for sharing!
I, too, saw your channel for the first time today. Your direction was inspiring this Texas gal busting my way out of this art block. I really liked your piece!
Thanks for sharing this video. I love the way you changed the color of the the petals and the finishing touches at completion of this beautiful art work.
Thanks for sharing. Love the colors and composition. I have stacks of doodle journals and I plan on trying this technique. I especially love the way you use two lines for outlining!
I am a novice at art, a grandmother homeschooling 3 grandchildren and last year I took up painting in an art journal. I love it. I used this UA-cam video today to do a lesson with my grandchildren and wanted to show you the outcome. It was super fun to do. Thank you so much for sharing your talent so that others can learn. I wish I could show you the picture I took of the finished results, but I don't know how to do that.
Thank you for this video... I learned SO much by watching you work! I'm glad to know about the Sharpie poster paint pens. I like the idea of water based. Thanks again!
Finally took the time to browse through some of your earlier works. I learn something new from each of your videos, and love being able to witness your aesthetic evolution. Once again, thank you for the inspiration and for so generously sharing your talent!
Sorry about your dental thing, but happy you found me...even the older me! I kept all my early videos because folks still love watching them. Thank you!
Yet another one of your videos where I have to remember to breath, it is so exciting and interesting. Thank You so much for posting it, keep them coming please. So inspiring. x
Hello, I love how you kept adding colors on top of colors which made it interesting! Then the doodling, WOW that really was fun to watch, learned so much. I also agree that the mixed media pictures are complete with the white and black splatters! Thank You.
You make it look so easy and fun. I very much enjoyed watching your creative process. It's beautiful I liked the white petals in the beginning but you finished it off beautifully with the purple and white outlines. You're very creative!
I love the combination of doodle and painting. You always find fun and interesting ways to inspire. Thank you for being so generous with your talents. 🌻🌺
Thank you for sharing.Your canvas is beautifull .I give you a big kiss from France. I use your painting technique and i am happy to paint this.Thank you Betty. Anne Marie.
I have loved this image since it started coming up in my YT feed a while back. Finally got around to watching it. It’s amazing to consider your transformation as an artist since this was posted. That said, I love this piece every bit as much as your current work, and as others have said, it’s so easy to fall in love with the process you used on this piece. As always - Thank you for sharing yourself - you are so inspirational and a joy to spend time with.
You are super kind! I love this one, too, and truly enjoyed that part of my journey to where I am today. I still doodle flowers (just using a black pen) when I need some down time but still want to do something creative (cuz I can't seem to just not!). Thanks you for following my art adventures!
Just watched your video. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Well explained and you take the fear out of painting loose. Been doodling on paper.....now on to canvas! You're very creative.
Betty I saw your comment about your style changing. I love both. Been watching your huge canvas painting video. Amazed at your process. I’m not sure I could do it. But I really like it!
This is GORGEOUS! I could not understand why you kept going over certain things with different colors but now I see it with the layering of colors..... Looks AMAZING! I have subscribed!
Hi Betty, you were such an inspiration to me. I have been dabbling with mixed media for a while now. I like to play with it when I make my custom albums or when I create scrapbooks in my artsy books of my children, BUT I had never just created a fun canvas like the one you showed on the video. Yesterday I watched this video a couple of times, and today I just had to make one too. So I spent a couple hours on my castle (upstairs craft room) and made my canvas. I used your doodle, your techniques, but I didn't have the poster pens so I just used white paint to add the highlights. I am soooo happy with the way the canvas turned out. I am getting so excited about teaching classes again. Ah, one more thing! I loved when you say in the video that you used to think that only some colors go together, but now you believe all colors go together, just look at nature. So I added that quote to the sides of my canvas, and to the main focal point (the flower) I added "Begin Today". I hope to take some photos tomorrow and post my canvas on my blog with a link to your video. Do make more of these! Now I am on to your facebook page! Thanks again for sharing and taking the time to do this video. I know it's a lot of work. PS. Did you get your video camera for Christmas?? Blessings, Tereza
Hi Tereze! Thank you so much for your note! I'm so happy that you gave it a try! I would love to see your creation. Feel free to post it on my Mystic Tulip Mixed Media facebook page. To answer your question...no, I didn't get a video camera for Christmas. But, I'm hoping to get one sometime this year. In the meantime, I'll just use my trusty (photo) camera! :-) Betty
Since I've started watching the older videos on your channel, I should say thanks again, I've learnt so much more details and techniques. I shared this one on my Pinterest page too. That's an awesome tutorial
This was so inspiring! I love the technique with spraying the paint and then dabbing it with a paper towel, it gives great texture and makes the paint not look so flat. Totally trying it! And I love how you used the sides, never thought to do that, definitely going to do that from now on. Very helpful video, thank you for sharing with us!
How cute! At first, I didn't think you'd turn it into something I'd actually buy, but boy would I buy that!! Glad I stumbled onto you channel. Good job.
You’re my inspiration! In times of lock down and losing my job, being depressed and feeling alone. Your mentoring through your videos have captivated my heart and has allowed me to release a lot of stress onto the canvas. Thank you. Thank you so much
I'm sorry you're going through a difficult time, Tess. I love that you've turned to art to help lift you. Glad to hear that you're enjoying the videos! Sending you hugs!
