Thank you, Roger, for the feedback! We're working on editing the other videos to soften the music...or make me a lot louder! 😁 Ok, that won't happen! Thank you so much for watching!!
Wha?? This goldmine has been available and I am just finding it? Who is this amazing woman with such talent and a great eye for the whole shebang...colour, composition, flow, depth, sincerity and raw authenticity. Your work is juicy. That's the word that comes to mind and I didn't even finish the video yet and already, here I am leaving a comment. As an artist, I am drawn in to all the little details up close too and your work just makes my heart flutter as it does when I am in the art supply store surrounded by nothing but potential! I really like your style. :)
I have to agree about the music choice being a bit too harsh and grating. However, love the instruction and the final work! Sincerely appreciate your generous sharing of your process!
Very nice abstractions and I love that you really went the distance on that little piece. Minor criticisms would be to have a lot less music and segue animations and also show more close ups or at least a final look at it.
All great feedback and noted for future taping. Unfortunately, we have already taped/edited the first 4 episodes. But, future ones will have close up shots and we're also currently editing episodes 2-4 to reduce the music volume. Thank you so much for commenting and watching!
Great feedback! These videos were intended for TV viewing, but I still appreciate your comments on viewing them on UA-cam. We're already working on reducing the volume of the music for the next few episodes (which are already done). Thank you so much for watching and commenting!
Good point! Although the other three episodes are done, I'll make a note of that for future episodes. Thank you so much for watching and for your feedback, Winda!
Loved the video, and seeing your process, however would have loved some closer views to see what the different marks and such looked like, especially a final close up. Awesome work.
Thank you for your feedback! I have made a note of that for future episodes. Unfortunately, the first 4 episodes are done, but if I do more in the future, we'll make sure close-ups are included. Thank you so much for watching!
I love your art and informative videos, but please please please get rid of the music! It is extremely annoying, drowns out your voice, and offers absolutely no value to the video.
Hi J H, I appreciate you watching my videos! This one was the first in a series of professionally done videos and we learned after this one was posted that the music was too loud. We turned it way down for the other videos in the series.
Thank you. These videos are really exciting. I appreciate how you teach a great deal as you create, explaining your thinking process. But I HATE the “music” . It distracts and disturbs so much. Don’t worry about having silence between your speaking.
Love watching your process but would like it more without the music please. It fades in and out randomly. Would rather just hear you or watch as you paint silently.
Thank you for your feedback, Anissa! We are working on reducing the volume of the music for the next 3 episodes (which are already done!). I appreciate you watching and commenting!
Anissa, agreed. I quite often leave a channel because of the music.and particularly when it drowns out speech. I do use the subtitles sometimes but prefer to watch and listen and the subs cover up bits I would like to see.. A bit ironic as I chose music as my channel name and I do love my music but hadn't watched any videos at that point.
loved this intro to abstract and her narration of what she was doing and why. Did NOT love the weird jarring music editing. It was like a 17 year old stoner at the mixing board kept going "sigh, I'm bored! More music!" It seemed poorly timed additions of music, random and at times on top of her narration. The music from craftsy videos was also an unwelcome surprise. Stop dropping in bad mechanical guitar riffs over her narration. Its supposed to be a meditative intuitive process.
Tanya, I was cracking up at your description. I really appreciate your feedback! We already recorded and edited episodes 2-4, however, we're going back in and adjusting the volume. Thank you so much for watching and commenting!
Thank you, Betty for sharing your process. Your work is lovely and I always learn so much when watching your videos. Please keep them coming. I started using Bristol paper when I heard you speaking about it. I love it. I haven't tried the Nova paints yet but I will when I use up some of my other paints. I enjoy your videos because you get right to it and your confident. No nonsense but very engaging. Thanks again.
Lovely work. Regarding this video, it would work better for me If you could put the camera over you, so we can see the painting from the right perspective.
Hi Evi, thank you so much for watching! Yes, I agree with you. We already recorded the first 4 episodes, but if we record more, we'll add a camera overhead. Thank you for your feedback! It's much appreciated!

I've never been into abstract art, trying to get into capturing my surroundings through urban sketching or the like. But this video has demystified the process a lot, and the results are so pleasing. Thanks for making this video. I'll definitely be giving this a go. In a way this is a raw, pure form of art.
Betty, I've said before, you are my favorite UA-cam abstract artist! This tutorial is fantastic. I've been trying this kind of art for a long time, some understand it and some just don't. It's ok, it brings me joy so I do it anyway. I'l look forward to the next video. One thing, maybe a different background music choice LOL. You're voice is so calming and then comes in the music which is soooo "energetic". Maybe a bit calmer music selection? Of course, just my opinion. I'm hoping you don't take offense
That's great feedback! I'm so happy that you're following your heart and creating what speaks to your heart. Keep on playing, practicing and exploring!

Hi Lily! So happy to hear you like this one. Yes, there are 3 more episodes. I'll be posting the next one soon! Thank you so much for watching and commenting!
Thank you so much for sharing your process. The camera angle was a little offputting as the marks you were making were not really apparent. I agree with others on the music, you have a lovely and easy to listen to voice which doesn't need music (in my opinion). Seems I have said a lot of negatives, but I loved this video and your process is amazing. I do look forward to seeing more of your work.

@@krisleroy9018 Glad you didn't mind the loud music. Yes, definitely upbeat! Thank you for the feedback about zooming in. Unfortunately, we didn't do that for this series, but it's on my list for next time. Thanks so much, Kris!
Hi Susan, thank you so much for watching! We realized after filming that we forgot to do some close up shots of the final piece. You can see my other videos with close up pics at the end of the videos. Thank you!
I'm also grateful for the time you are taking to share you knowledge and expertise. It's a wonderful gift and I'm really looking forward to continuing this journey with you. Arohanui from New Zealand.

I adore your art and style. I created a painting by layering lots of colors all over the canvas. When it was dry, I painted a light coat of white over the entire canvas and right before it fully dried I rubbed through the white in shapes of hearts all over the canvas. I used paper towel, a little sand paper, a rough paint brush. It looked fantastic and I sold it!!!! Layered paintings are the best. Thank you for so many helpful hints. I never thought of doing the cool colors first. I will do that next time.
Love your videos. But I would rather hear you talk or silence rather than the music coming in and out. I’m having to lower the volume and bringing it back up to hear what you’re saying❤️
Sorry about that! That was our first episode and we got a lot of feedback about the music. We lowered it in all the other episodes. Thanks for watching!
I really love your work. And I would like to listen to what you're saying. But the music is disturbing too much. (too loud, aggressive) Please think about how this affects people who want to dive into what you are doing and saying. Thank you for your great work.
I appreciate your feedback. That was the first video of 4 and we made adjustments to the other three so that the music wasn't overbearing. Thanks so much for watching!

Thank you Betty. Im so glad i found you. Ive been doing watercolors for the past 2 years. Still ha entt perfected it and no where close. I want to get into abstract acrylics and it looks like thats where the fun begins. Im enjoying learning from you. Again thank you.
It is always so interesting to watch the process in abstract art, which I am growing to love. My trouble is I don’t know when to stop or if I should keep going❗️. Is that an intuitive thing or something that happens with practice?? Mine always end up looking like kindergarten messes‼️. I love to watch your step-by-step instructions 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼‼️
Hi Lynn! Like you, I started to love abstract (never did before I turned 50! Or maybe I just never saw abstract art that I loved.). After trying all types of styles of art, I decided that I want to create abstract art. It was really hard in the beginning. I didn't know what I was doing or how to create. I took a few workshops (both online and in person) and that helped me better understand what I liked. It took a lot of practice to get to where I am today. Some of it is intuitive, but that becomes easier with practice and building your confidence. Keep on playing, experimenting and practicing. It will come together for you!
Thanku Betty. This is a clear and precise video on your technique. I’ve watched your Utube videos and love your abstract paintings. What site do i go on to see what you have for sale?
Hi Sandra! Thank you so much for your kind message and for watching the video! You can see my art here: www.bettykrauseart.com. I offer my smaller pieces on paper to the folks on my email list first. You can sign up here: www.bettykrauseart.com/email-sign-up. Thank you for asking!
Hello from France 🇫🇷 thank you so much for this video. As I can’t attend your training session in live...it’s very nice to have this kind of video. I am waiting for the others...yes yes yes ✨👍
Thank you for the clear explanation, I love it. Could you use some calmer music? It does not fit with your intimate talk, thank you, God bless you, He loves you! Big hug out of Belgium.
Years ago a friend of mine brought my a tshirt from the Metropolitan in New York. "Good art will NOT match your sofa !" Abstract art is living proof... 😜
I appreciate you watching! Without KCAT, I would not have this video or the next three I'll be posting. They did a great job filming and editing and taking a chance with me! Based on all the feedback we received (which we really appreciate!), we're going to adjust the sound of the music on the next three videos (that are already done). Thank you for commenting!
I love the way you set up your colour palette with the gesso down the middle and the cool and warm each side. The freedom to mix colours in a larger space has inspired me! Great video btw. Your voice is perfect and calm.....without the music which I know you've
Thanks for watching, Joan! After the feedback about the music in this first episode, the other videos in the series were edited with the volume turned down. Thank you!
Is the liquitex glossy varnish you use really good for acrylic canvas paintings? I have a trouble of choosing a good varnish for my creations. I would like the colors to be slightly enchanced by varnishing, however I used a few of brands that either made my paintings yellow-ish or made them look rather odd (they lost their vivid colors after varnishing). To portray this more: some of my arts are intended to be dark, painted over a flat black gesso surface without a texture, so maintaining a proper contrast and richness of tints is essential. Other paintings I make are bright and contain a lot of texture (plaster or marble dust) and they - on the other hand - require more matte varnish, I believe. What is your experience in this matter? What varnish should I use depending on the colors/style/amount of texture? I'd be grateful for any insight. :)
I think you'll want to experiment with several brands and finishes to determine what works best for your art. After trying several (including Golden), I decided that Liquitex is my favorite in mat, satin and gloss finishes. It's easy to apply (doesn't require mixing with water, etc.) and drys evenly. I wish I had a super simple answer for you! It's going to come down to what you like best for your art. Wishing you all the best!
@@BettyFranksArt Thank you so much for your input and advice! :) I'm going to get myself a Liquitex one and experiment further. First on a smaller canvas to check how it's doing. Much obliged, Betty! :)
Hi Betty I really enjoyed your video. Great tips on doing abstract art is exactly what I was looking for. I’m glad I came across your video. You inspired me.Thank you 😊💕
definately made it to my favourites videos. A lot of great ideas. Thanks for sharing your process. But, I had to watch video with my head cocked sideways - bummer.
Hi Carmen! Thank you for that feedback! This was our first series (4 episodes) and we learned a lot of in the process. I appreciate you watching...with your head cocked sideways! Many thanks for hanging in there!
My second time watching you paint .Its totally mesmerizing how you transform the canvas into stunning results .Can't express how grateful i'm to have found you. Do you mix Gesso with water ? Thank you again for most inspiring time with you. Can't wait to watch another of your videos .
Thank you so much, Mina! I'm glad you liked the video! I don't mix water with my gesso. I often use a dry brush technique when painting so that the previous layers can peek through. Thanks so much for watching!
Making art is an individual process. I like how you demonstrate your process; showing the unlimited and experimental nature of creating art. And thanks for the link to the Nova Color website.
Love your art and I truly love your teaching style and learning from you. Thank you! I do have one negative thought though...just a suggestion...maybe turn down the volume on the music? It’s really blasting loud.
Hi LaVonne! Thank you for your feedback. We have made changes to the rest of the episodes in this series. I've already posted the second episode where the volume is turned down. Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much for these videos-I've learned so much! One question: Do you seal or varnish your paintings with anything after you finish them? I'm wondering about the risk of eventual smudges to the grease pencil marks, etc., if you don't.
Never mind...just found the link to your varnishing video below, in your answer to an earlier question on the same topic. It's super-informative. Thanks again!
Awesome! I was going to send you the link. I'm so glad you found it! Also, since creating that video, I have been using a spray fixative more than a spray varnish. Either one works to keep the marks from smudging. Thanks so much for watching, Jennifer!
Thanks dearest Betty,I enjoyed and learned a lot like always, only one question:I don’t have gesso, what can I use instead for Bristol paper? Appreciate it🌺🌺
Hi Shirin! You can try without anything and see how it does or try adding a layer of white paint. I've never added a layer of white paint, so I honestly don't know if it'll work. One other thought: try a layer of matte medium (if you have access to that). I hope one of these works for you!
Very grateful for your kindness in sharing your knowledge . So, thank you very very much. Do you have have online courses? Couldn’t find. Best regards from Portugal

Loved the tutorial, hated the music. Couldn't use the mute button, or I would have missed what you were saying.
We got lots of feedback about the volume. Thanks, Anne! We made the adjustments in the other 3 videos.
I thought the music was fun and upbeat! Loved the tutorial. Wish you could zoom in so I could see the details. Thanks!
@@krisleroy9018 Glad you didn't mind the loud music. Yes, definitely upbeat! Thank you for the feedback about zooming in. Unfortunately, we didn't do that for this series, but it's on my list for next time. Thanks so much, Kris!
How FUN! Love this...clear...fun...informational...inspiring...and beautiful!
Hi Lora Lee!! Thank you so much for your sweet comment!!
Loved it, thanks so much, could you perhaps show us a little more close ups so we can see the textures, but loved the video.
That's great feedback, Reina! I appreciate you watching and commenting!
Love your pieces. Wish I could see a close up view during your art process.
Sweet! Thank you so much, Sharon! I'm happy to share and I'm glad you liked it!
Thank you Betty - I especially love the fact of not getting too attached to each layer. Definitely going to apply this to my practice 👏🏻
Wonderful! Thank you for watching, Robyn!
Wish the music wasn't so loud. Would prefer to hear you comment about what you are doing and/or thinking.
Hi Judy! In this series of videos, we turned down the volume for all the other videos (after we got a lot of complaints about this one). If you want to hear my thought process behind my brush stokes, I recently created an online course. Here’s the link to the course information:

Congratulations! Loved the video! Did not like the loud, annoying music. There was just too much of it, too loud and it distracts from your voice.
Hi Donna! Thank you so much for watching and for your feedback! We're working on changing the volume of the music for the other episodes. Thanks!
Hank you. I would have liked a full screen view of the final painting.🙂
Music is awful 🙁
Hi Ann! Thanks for watching and commenting. This was the first video in a series of 4, so we made volume adjustments to the remaining videos.
That is awesome! Congratulations on the sale, Debbie!! I'm very happy for you!!
(too loud, aggressive)
Please think about how this affects people who want to dive into what you are doing and saying.
Thank you for your great work.
I appreciate your feedback. That was the first video of 4 and we made adjustments to the other three so that the music wasn't overbearing. Thanks so much for watching!
good info, great ideas, skip the music -- please!
Noted! We changed the music for all the other videos. Lesson learned! Thanks so watching!
I love all your videos! I have finally started to paint again and you and your inspiring techniques have helped me so much!!!
I'm so happy to hear that, Jill! Glad you're painting! Keep on creating!
Great video, but I really wanted to see close-ups of the final result.
I appreciate your feedback, Tonya! Thank you for watching and for commenting!
I agree.
@@sharonstratis2846 Thank you, Sharon!
I am in awe of this process. You sound wonderful and give great instructions. Wishing you all the best! Hugs
Hi Judith! Thank you so much for your sweet comment!!
Betty, you are a natural in front of the camera and the canvas!! Loved this and looking forward to more!
awe....you are super sweet, Maria! Thank you for saying that! I appreciate you watching!
Enjoyed learning from you. Thank you from a non-Instagram watcher.
I appreciate your note! Thank you so much for watching!
I'm also a non-instagram watcher.
@@gretchenlhommedieu6352 I appreciate you watching, Gretchen!
it would be better if you got rid of music.
Thanks, Vicki! We're working on minimizing the sound of the music on the next 3 videos (that are already done). I appreciate your feedback!

Just absolutely absolutely loved your video
Thank you helped me so much
I love hearing that, Elizabeth! Thank you for watching and commenting!
Thank you, so happy to watch. If I might make a suggestion. No music! Your video is so relaxing with just your voice and watching “your process”.
Hi Susan! Thank you so much for watching. We lowered the volume on the sound for the other videos in this series.
@@BettyFranksArt Thanks, spending hours with you watching and practicing.
I agree. It is so intrusive. But I suppose not everyone wants to relax while watching.
@@itsjudystube We made a mistake in having the music loud on the first video from the series of 4. The other videos in this series aren't so loud. Thank you for watching!
So glad I found you! Very inspiring artwork! What do you use to varnish your paintings?
I'm so glad you found me, too! I put together a video on varnishing art on paper. I use the same process for canvas/wood: ua-cam.com/video/KBg4GjajaPg/v-deo.html
Thanks so much for watching, Shirley!
Thank you Betty. Im so glad i found you. Ive been doing watercolors for the past 2 years. Still ha entt perfected it and no where close. I want to get into abstract acrylics and it looks like thats where the fun begins. Im enjoying learning from you. Again thank you.
Thanks for watching!
Somebody take that guys guitar away, please!
Sorry, couldn't resist,lol.
Love your work, thankyou.
Haha! We turned down the volume on the other videos in this series. 😁
The red and blue you are wearing are your colors. 👍🏻
Yes! They sure are! I've been searching for another top in that color of blue. So hard to find! Thanks for watching, Elsa!
Oh yes yes yes yes!!!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🙌🏻
Love it!! Thank you for watching, Renee!
Thanku Betty. This is a clear and precise video on your technique. I’ve watched your Utube videos and love your abstract paintings. What site do i go on to see what you have for sale?

Hey Betty, I Love your colorful Art and your intresting technik you charing with us. Thank you very much. But sorry to say, I dont like the Musik.😉
Hi Marion, thank you so much for watching! I appreciate your feedback about the music. We plan to reduce the volume of episodes 2-4. Thank you!
Hello from France 🇫🇷 thank you so much for this video. As I can’t attend your training session in live...it’s very nice to have this kind of video. I am waiting for the others...yes yes yes ✨👍
You are very sweet, Marie! Glad you liked it. I'll be posting the next one very soon! Thank you!
Thank you for the clear explanation, I love it. Could you use some calmer music? It does not fit with your intimate talk, thank you, God bless you, He loves you! Big hug out of Belgium.
Yes, we changed the volume of the music for all the other videos in this series. Thanks so much for watching. I'm so happy you liked it!
Years ago a friend of mine brought my a tshirt from the Metropolitan in New York.
"Good art will NOT match your sofa !"
Abstract art is living proof... 😜
Yes...gotta go with art that speaks to your heart and soul!
The music is very loud and distracting.
I totally agree, Judith! We ended up editing the sound for all the other videos in this series. Have a great day!
Enjoyed watching the video expect for Kcat doing your efforts an injustice.
Thank you!
Thoroughly enjoyed the episode and looking forward to the rest! Thank you for your very informative and well thought out video.
Many thanks, Maura! Glad you liked it!
You inspired me.Thank you 😊💕
So happy you found me, Lulia! I'm in the process of getting the second video uploaded. Stay tuned!
Thank you so much your videos and tutorials have given me the confidence to start painting.
Wonderful! You are so welcome! I'm super excited for you!!
Thanks for sharing your fabulous Art with us Betty! I love watching your Spectacular videos!❤️
You are so welcome, Denise! Thank you for watching!
definately made it to my favourites videos.
I just started after watching so may of your videos. Wish I could send you a picture ultimate enjoying it. Lol first time art hasn’t caused me anxiety
Thank you so much for watching, Tamera!
Hi Estella! Thank you for your kind words! I think you'll like Nova paints. They're fabulous!
Thank you so much Betty for this video!! Love your art and I've really enjoyed it!

Your paintings are so beautiful but you are also a beautiful, calm artist. Thank for the tutorial.
Thank you very much, Nina! You are so sweet!!
Love watching you....Brightens my day!
Awe..I'm so glad! You are very kind, Jean!
Great instructional video! They are SO helpful! Thank you.
You are so welcome! Always happy to hear that it's informative!

Did I miss something? Is it Betty Frank or Berry Krause?
Good question! I went through a name change at the beginning of 2021.
i would have liked to see few of those small paintings framed, preferably with a mat...
Yes, great idea! We totally missed out on doing close ups at the end. Thanks for watching!
