My favorite part about the roller coaster is that the goblins weren't there at first. A bunch of players pointed out "hey, wait a minute, this roller coaster is DEFINITELY going backwards" (and it is) and they were Blizzard's response.

I like the theory that Darkmoon Island itself is the fifth old god, and Silas is just a psychic projection of it. Just 'cause it feels like it would fit well with some of the Light is not automatically good/Shadow is not automatically evil stuff they've done over the years; instead you get a benevolent old god who is actively fostering peace and cooperation between the alliance and horde, albeit in a relatively minor way.
Or the old god has tricked us into going there to siphon energy from all the guests in a secretive and benign way to keep it alive.
Like a freelancer that needs income and set up a self-sufficient gig on the side, so they can just chill and read books all day :D

Silas was in the old Darkmoon Faire in Mulgore and Elwynn so I do not think he is a projection created by the island. I do think it's possible it's an old god.
Like how in Greek Mythology with the primordial gods: Tartarus is supposedly a primordial god, Gaia is supposedly the earth itself and Chaos was the state of existence before the universe and/or the foundation of reality (among other possibilities, though it would make more sense if Chaos was undefinable lol). Not sure about the older versions of Eros where he was one too though.
No, the faire were originally an actual traveling fair. We see their much simpler setup in vanilla, and we see a REALLY good story of them as a family in a Warcraft Legends comic.
@@mattwo7 Don't forget that they used to go to Shattrath, too! But I don't really feel like that rules out the possibility that he's a projection, or at least some kind of avatar. After all, we've seen what the dismembered corpse of Y'shaarj can do; who's to say that, say, the eye of another old god can't be carried around by a carnival and manifest a mechagnome afflicted by the curse of flesh?
Really, though, I hope they never actually clarify what's up with Silas, and the Darkmoon Faire. Even if they revealed that my speculation was 100% correct, that would be far less fun than all the theorizing.
I would love to see a Darkmoon/Dark Carnival themed expansion, The Darkmoon Faire has so much to offer for story/themes/dungeons etc.
Perhaps they could start of with a DMF dungeon. I think it could have been a good oppotunity to tie it in during Dustvar

There was an entire Hearthstone expansion dedicated to it, which was some of the most fun I had with the game. Tons of cool stuff and amazing art

The art of y'shaarj is from a hearthstone expansion set arround all four old gods controlling the faire, so I wouldnt take it as proof of y'shaarj being the one behind it.
I don't play WoW but the dives into the lore in these videos always brings a smile to my face.

i love dmf, gotta be one of the best feature reworks in the game. from turning in spider eyes or whatever for cards and rep to all of this neat pointless stuff.
There is a tentacle hidden inside of an outhouse (toilet) behind the rollercoaster, where the engineering game console is, on the way towards the death metal concert area.
You see the artwork elsewhere in the game. The pictures are in Dalaran and Waycrest Manor, and the larger artworks are in the Theatre event in Karazhan

When i first started playing WoW, DMF terrified me. The carnie feel, the art and music. I stayed away for YEARS.

I love playing at the arcade while waiting for PvP queues to pop. I wish there was a standalone version of the minesweeper game for PC and mobile that I could play as a time filler without having to be online. For some reason it's just so much more fun than the Windows minesweeper game, it seems to create more tension when you're walking around the minefield and you actually get blown up if you misstep.
Great video! I really appreciate the use of the old Darkmoon music in the background by the way - as far as I know it’s unique and has not existed in the game since the new island, but it’s one of my favorite tracks in the game and has a simple but dark medieval feeling.

One thing I found interesting was in BfA when we got to see some of the Black Empire runes, there is one that looks very similar to the logo or whatever you want to call it for the Darkmoon Faire. The Hearthstone expansion "Madness at the Darkmoone Faire shows all the Old Gods looming over different parts of the Faire, not just Y'shaarj.
One of the ambient sounds on the Rollercoaster is actually taken from Chris Sawyer's famous Rollercoaster Tycoon 1 and 2

This is my favorite top 10 I’ve seen so far. But I have always loved the dark moon faire since vanilla and the summer one too. And I main warlock.
Dark moon fair island looks like it needs a lighthouse, maybe made from a mage tower.
My theory is Silas Darkmoon is an entity that feeds off Positive emotions (much like the Sha from Pandaria). There is an item called Silas’s Sphere of Transmutation that has flavor text that says “The Sphere’s surface swirls and shifts, showing different images for brief moments, never long enough to see what they actually are.” Isn’t referencing the faire itself but is actually referencing Silas, we never see Silas when the faire isn’t running, and what if all the carnies and workers are Silas’s minions (aberrations) in disguise or illusioned.
I never even thought that Chester could be a reference to Marvelous Chester from the Dark Souls DLC, that's interesting. It kind of makes sense now.

Back before that underwater cavern was taken over by blood elves, it was the perfect empty spot to do stuff. Moon Guard had nothing on that cave. It was like a Jon Snow and Ygritte situation gone wild. 😂😂😂😂

When you leave the darkmoon faire and the music fades out, that's very creepy to me.
I completely agree I'd rather not get a full story or confirmation of theories for the Darkmoon Fair. If we confirmed they were void aligned or whatever, even in a "no magic is inherently evil" story line, then SOME players would rage that we aren't doing anything about them. Instead, slightly shady, possible killers at a fair makes it like any real world fair, and we let those happen.

They really need to update the DMF! I feel like it has so much potential and blizzard just has to take advantage of that opportunity
not been paying attention I see. THere has a been a steady process of additional content added starting in Pandaria. I mean the Deathmatch in that mini arena, the coaster, the rabbit, Moonfang, the Death Metal Knight fight.... that Erinyes underwater cave... and most recently the dance contest. None of these things were in DMF at launch.
@@ZakhadWOW oh they've for sure been slowly adding stuff over the years, which is great. But idk, all the original content on the island is a decade old now, and I just wish blizzard would revamp it in some way. I can only do that cannon so many times before it's not exactly new and exciting anymore. Maybe that's a me problem but i want the faire to get more love 😭

Excellent top tier content right here - loved it! It has been so long since I have died on that island - have not even tried for any of the raid bosses in years - so I had no idea about the named Ghosts / can't remember ever seeing them...that's really cool indeed.

I like the idea that the darkmoon faire is kinda like the wandering isle or it's on the other side of azeroth, the part of the map that we've never seen!
Crendor, you goofball. You mentioned the cannibal lady in the ghost section, but never actually elaborated on the fact that there's a cannibal living in the woods selling people meat.
Huge agree about #3. Sometimes it's funner not to know. Another example is whenever they try to explain magic. It's magic. We don't need to know more than that. lol
One day Blizzard will fix the whack-a-gnoll quest so I don't get stunned everytime I turn it in. One day.
You can run out past the npc, and right-click to remove the hammer buff, you won't get stunned that way.
Number 11: that girl always chasing her frog. When I was a kid playing the game I tried numerous ways to try and get that frog for her. I always thought it would become a pet lol.
3:03 You could’ve just used footage from your old video showcasing the Darkmoon Rabbit when it was first released back in MoP beta. Look it up!

#1: My cabbages! Theres an NPC in the jaina questline when you chase Lady Ashvane through Boralus on a horse and halfway through you approach a cabbage merchant where you can choose to jump or keep on running! If you run through the cabbages the NPC says: "MY CABBAGES!!". This references the cabbage merchant from Avatar the Last Airbender

I think the shipwrecks around the island happened because Darkmoon Island simply spontaneously manifests at a random location in the Great Sea. So ships have no time to react and steer away, so they become part of the island itself. But I'd rather Blizz just let the fun lore never actually get revealed...the unknown is a lot more fun than the known.
wait how are there ghosts for the dark moon faire in the past on that island if the faire only recently moved to that island. Did they follow it all the way to the island

Yeah, I like when they don't reveal all the lore. It's a balancing act, but I'll always prefer they keep at least some mystery rather than tie things up neatly.

it would honestly be really interesting to see an old god try to control people with pleasures and happiness more than Obey me or perish as the others are
like they consantly gift their loyal followers with whatever they desire, even what could be seen as "benevolent" things like someone going to an old god since their kid is sick and the old god "helps" in exchange for their devotion. basically like how real cults work.
