i first heard this in the early 80s.{82,83 from memory} ..i havent heard it since{ before today} but r recalled every word of the song, and where i was when i first heard it...i knda miss those times
I still have the 45 that was given to me when I was 11. This BLEW MY MIND. I had never heard anything like it before or since. The flip side is Rock and Roll Dreams Come Through, which instantly became one of my favourite songs. My adolescence would have been very different without Jim Steinman and Meatloaf.
I remember everything... When I got the album in 81, I was really disappointed... but this one blew me away... Amplifier on 11. So my dad came in... I read his lips: "Shut that fucking noise off." I just thought: "You better piss off... Now!" And so he did... I guess, somehowhe's got the message of the track, although he does'nt understand English at all. I was playing a Strat b.t.w.
Man, I just found out about his death and it makes me sad. He was a musical genius. I will need to dig this vinyl out and listen to the whole thing back to back, including the 45 that came with it. RIP man.
I did this as a monologue when I applied to Studio 58's Theatre Arts Program @ Langara College in Vancouver, BC. It got me in the program way back in 1983!
AAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. i have not heard this for years, it still makes me shiver, and i still know the words. Goddamit daddy. u no i love you but you got a hell of lot to learn about rock and roll...
I bought this on a 45 in 1981. This was the B side. Side A was Rock and Roll Dreams Come True. Loved them both. Haven't heard either one since the early 80's.
The local public radio station used to play this late at night and as soon as this song ended you would immediately hear Blitzkrieg Bop or another song starting with heavy guitar. It was a great match.
One thing I wondered about.. he first clearly states that he remember everything, SO clear that he remembered every little thing as if it happened only yesterday. But he still dont remember if he killed the poor boy with a Telecaster or a Stratocaster?
I remember I dubbed this song on a cassette followed by Foreigners "Jukebox hero" and on another tape followed by Bonnie Tylers "Holding out for a hero" and on another cassette... This was an alltime opener, same as Whitesnakes "We wish you well" an alltime tapeender (no native speaker, does this word even exist?) was. R.I.P. Jim Steinman
My father woke up screaming: stop...wait a minute..stop it, boy" "what do you think you're doing? That's no way to treat an expensive musical instrument" And I said "god damn it, daddy!!! You know I love you.....BUT YOU GOT A HELL OF A LOT TO LEARN ABOUT ROCK AND ROLL!!!
@Tanyableu this is the original title when it was released on steinman's bad for good album, then they changed the title when they included it on meat's bat 2 album.
What's he ACTUALLY saying: 'The blood was oozing, dark and rich...'? Or maybe 'The blood was soup'? Online consensus seems to be 'The blood was ugh' but I don't buy it. I no longer have the vinyl, which had the lyrics with it.
felix vogel I remember everything! I remember every little thing as if it happened only yesterday.I was barely 17 and I once killed a boy with a fender guitar. I don't remember if it was a Telecaster or a Stratocaster, but i do remember that it had a heart of chrome and a voice like a horny angel. I don't remember if it was a Telecaster or a Stratocaster, but I do remember that it wasn't at all easy. It required the perfect combination of the right powerchords and the precise angle from which to strike. The guitar bled for about a week afterwards and the blood was ooh... dark and rich like wild berries. The blood of the guitar was Chuck Berry red! The guitar bled for about a week afterwards and it rung out beautifully , and I was able to play notes that I had never even heard before. So I took my guitar and I smashed it against the wall!! I smashed it against the floor!! I smashed it against the body of a varsity cheerleader!! I smashed it against the hood of a car I smashed it agianst a 1981-Harley Davidson... The Harley howled in pain, the guitar howled in heat! I ran up the stairs to my parents bedroom Mommy and Daddy were sleeping in the moonlight slowly I opened the door creeping in the shadows right up to the foot of the bed I raised my guitar high above my head and just as I was about to bring the guitar crashing down upon the center of the bed my father woke up screaming: "stop...wait a minute..stop it,boy" "what do you think you're doing??? That's no way to treat an expensive musical instrument" And I said "god damn it, daddy!!!You know I love you....." "BUT YOU GOT A HELL OF A LOT TO LEARN ABOUT ROCK AND ROLL!!
Rest In Peace, Jim, and thank you for teaching us a hell of a lot about rock and roll.
The guitar bled Chuck Berry Red. An amazing songwriter. RIP Jim.

Fun to think that this inspired Soul Music.
We remember EVERYTHING! And we'll remember you, Mr. Steinman. Thanks for all the incredible music.

I thought The Storm was the flip side of the 45. Been so long since I owned that....
rock n roll dreams come through not true
"No Anchovies Please" by J. Geils Band is kind of like this.
Angie Barr Did the single (Rock and Roll Dreams) have the extended ending?

Waitaminute- if they don't want you to play the record, then why'd they put it in there in the first place?! Savages!!
RIP Jim Steinman
This was the B side of Rock and Roll Dreams Come Through. It was always fun to play it in unsuspecting pizza parlors during the 80s.
Man, I just found out about his death and it makes me sad. He was a musical genius. I will need to dig this vinyl out and listen to the whole thing back to back, including the 45 that came with it. RIP man.
RIP Mr Steinman.
Thank you for the Music.
Easily the most Steinmaniest thing Steinmann ever put on wax!
Jim's 2&1/2 min epitaph!
R.I.P.
I memorized this when I was 12 years old. Lost a lot of points with the grown ups, let me tell you....
Melee Stormbringer yeah me too. Drove my father crazy till he bought me a guitar that WAS Chuck Berry red!!
Haha yes me too! It's still awesome.
I did this as a monologue when I applied to Studio 58's Theatre Arts Program @ Langara College in Vancouver, BC. It got me in the program way back in 1983!

This is the perfect song to start a party playlist with!

I haven’t heard this for years ! Still a classic!
RIP JIM

Machtige muziek
OMG, Just heard Jim passed April 19th 2021, r.i.p. gutted GUTTED
Years ago I had this on a mixed tape and ran the end of this right into the start of Johnny B. Goode by Chuck Berry.
This one still makes me chuckle. Thanks JS.
My sister used to play this for me when we were kids. I still love it!!!!!
As self-indulgence goes............this truly went!
One thing I wondered about.. he first clearly states that he remember everything, SO clear that he remembered every little thing as if it happened only yesterday.
But he still dont remember if he killed the poor boy with a Telecaster or a Stratocaster?
I've loved this song for years ... But I've never picked up on that!
I'm gonna say it was probably a stratocaster
I figured he just wanted to start it with the first line from “Paradise By The Dashboard Light” as a nod to that song.
Unreliable narrator!
Ol Jim was really out there
That LP was in my collection!
Had it on cassette, then cd & lucky enough bought an old vinyl 2 weeks ago for $10¡
@mandolinroad I was in high school. I didn't take of things very well back then. It's long gone.
Bloody brilliant 😊
This one is called Wasted Youth on the Bat II album.
Reminds me of Hawkwind's Sonic Attack. Love it!!

Nothing matters after this.

Perfect beat.
EPIC I AM LUVING IT!!!
Brilliant!
Following this with Chuck Berry's Roll Over Beethoven makes for a great pairing. This is an awesome bit of rock and roll prose.
My father woke up screaming: stop...wait a minute..stop it, boy" "what do you think you're doing? That's no way to treat an expensive musical instrument" And I said "god damn it, daddy!!! You know I love you.....BUT YOU GOT A HELL OF A LOT TO LEARN ABOUT ROCK AND ROLL!!!

not many people get here do they ??? them that know !!!
I think it's cute how Steinman is trying to roleplay a hardcore rock & roller. . .
Jim Steinman always has his tongue planted firmly in his cheek.
I still have a copy of Bad for Good on vynal....do you think it's worth anything now!!! Bought it on CD too..
Uh, Ok. Love the guy, and listened to this before. But right now I'm totally stoned and just caught the sex shit.
@guy41465 What'd you do with the 45 then?
He also song wrote or bread
so whats the story behind this?
Hey, wait..isn't this 'Wasted Youth?
Yes but Jim put it out as this long before that
What's he ACTUALLY saying: 'The blood was oozing, dark and rich...'? Or maybe 'The blood was soup'? Online consensus seems to be 'The blood was ugh' but I don't buy it. I no longer have the vinyl, which had the lyrics with it.
the blood was soon dark and rich

Izza Bizza Whizza, for seal team 1
@msnyjnym I kinda like this title better
The entire budget for this recording went directly to coccaine.
Jim Steinman without Meatloaf. They were on the outs
and yet Meatloaf did a cover of this as well...
Well, it was on his album, however, it was Jim Steinman still.
lol
