My mom wouldn’t describe herself as a Stones fan but when Angie comes on, she closes her eyes, smiles and mouths the words. ❤❤❤ I love this song soooooo much.
Hello gentlemen. Ok, it's is Mick.... He was 29 yrs young when he recorded this song. His voice hadn't gone threw the years of singing and drug use yet. So it was more pure to what he originally sounded like in 1972 when this was recorded. As for Hotel California, that came out 5 yrs later in 1977.... I always have and will always say, the 70's is the GREATEST decade of pop music. Period! Nothing comes close.
As mentioned below, "Wild Horses" is a must-listen slow roller from our Stones. Love to hear your reaction to that. That's Mick singing, no doubt. Great reaction. Always a pleasure.
As ever, Nicky Hopkins sprinkles the fairy dust on top with that piano. Every music fan should watch the documentary on him "The Session Man" that's streaming now.
If you do Wild Horses, please make sure it is the Sticky Fingers version. There are some alternate versions, & they’re good, but the album version is untouchable.
@ it’s very close to the Lp version. Mick’s vocals so up top are very impactful but I prefer the completed album version. But yeah, it’s a good one for sure.
Keith Richard’s wrote this song about his daughter Angela when he was in rehab Laa and Chee. Lots of other stories about the origin of this song, but I heard it directly from Keith himself
Beautiful song and yes, the minor key and chord progression are vaguely reminiscent of "Hotel California". But if you want to hear a song that the Eagles actually copied to make Hotel, listen to "We Used to Know" by Jethro Tull. The Eagles supported Jethro on a tour in the early 70s and shortly after released "Hotel California". Everything from the bass line, chord sequence and even the vocal melody
One of the most beautiful songs ever in my opinion, and my favorite Stone's song. Thanks for reacting to this one 💓💓💓💓🔥By the way, Tori Amos does a beautiful cover of this on piano ... haunting 💓💓💓💓
Silver Train kills, too. Whole lp. Lp came with an insert of a goat's head in pot of stew. Hung on my wall for years. A real Jamaican dish, pretty sure.
This song reminds me so much of my father RIP, his English was pretty rough back then, but he would turn this song up loud, and mix in his own lyrics 😊😊😊
The Stones have so many huge songs that somehow all sound different. That is a large part of the special sauce they have...they just continued to make hits for years and then decades, regularly, and never sounded repetitive.
Lead single from GHS 1973 and a huge international hit. No 5 here in UK, No 1 in US. One of their best ballads. Yes, it's unmistakably Jagger on vocals.
Great reaction La/Che one of my favorite from the stones. My favorite being Wild Horses. That was Nicky Hopkins on the piano. He was a very talented well know session player. He also played on some Beatles and Who songs. Keep up the phenomenal work.
So happy you did this! I love all music, heavy on the rock. Hardcore Allman Brothers freak 🍑🍄 my brother turned me on to this song when I was about 12/13 years old 1977/78 It comes in 1st / 2nd as one of my favorite songs! You guys are the best! Peace ✌️☮️ ❤️ 🎶
Excellent song from a great album. Remember hearing this for the first time on the radio and I just stopped and listened. Mick was great at singing ballads. Had great emotional sensibility with his voicing. And to me, this was a tour de force for Nicky Hopkins on the piano. This period with Richards and Taylor on guitars, and Hopkins on piano, though not a band member, was unparalleled. They explored deeper and more personal music, and expanded beyond the rock and blues from earlier. And they succeeded resoundingly
Keith Richards wrote it. The rumor about it being in reference to David Bowie's wife is incorrect. I heard that way back in the '70s as well but it's not true.
@@parsleyqueen Keith Richards talks about Angie being about "Angela" his daughter on the Howard Stern show . He was in rehab when he wrote it, at the same time he wrote it she was born and the Catholic nuns named her. Her name was Dandelion but she later changed it to Angie. Somehow it all worked together.
This song came out when one of my older brothers was in high school and madly in love with a girl named Angie. He played this song over and over. It is Mick singing.
No one mentioned the sublime acoustic guitar in this…especially that iconic intro starting on a harmonic. Everyone who’s ever picked up an acoustic guitar wants to learn it! Piano is great too. Perfect vocal from Mick The way he pronounces Angie then extends it when he repeats it…fantastic stuff! This got a lot of radio play back in the 70s. You guys are fantastic too…keep em coming!
Guys: I'm sure almost all the Stones fans here would LOVE rto see y'all do "Shattered." The vocals are UNMISTAKABLY Mick and his ginormous personality is all over that great record from 1978! (He's singing about New York City/Manhattan, fun stuff!)
💯 Mick singing, just a slower, mellower song than you expect from the Stones. Another incredible song by them that is EPICALLY UNDERRATED is “She’s a Rainbow”. You really owe it to yourselves to react to it!
The first time I ever danced with a boy was to this song in 7th grade. My friends got me this album for my birthday the year it came out. Great reaction, I like that you don't do reactions to the usual suspects. 😊 Definitely Mick Jagger.

Angie is the greatest breakup rock song ever made. It is actually one of the greatest Rock Songs ever made. On classic rock top 100 countdowns, that song always comes in like top 5 top 10.
This song is from thier Goats Head Soup record and was a huge hit back in the 70's, got a lot of air play on the top 40 radio stations. There is another song on this record entitled Winter that just takes me to a different place every time I hear it. These guys have more hits than grains of sand on the beach...... been at it for a very, very long time. Thanks for reacting.
Probably one of the top 10 ballads ever written. If you want to hear a similar heartbreaker, check out “Come Down in Time” by Elton John, from the Tumbleweed Connection album. Lesser known, but just as beautiful.
That is indeed Jagger on vocal and the common rumor is it was written about Angela Bowie, David Bowie's wife at the time. However, both Mick and Keith deny that this is true. in the 1993 liner notes for their compilation album "Jump Back " Keith stated that the song title was inspired by his baby daughter.
It's funny, I'd never noticed it before but as soon as the acoustic guitar played the initial riff I thought 'what does that remind me of - oh - Hotel California. Then Che steps in and says exactly what I'm thinking - but it most definitely IS Mick - this is how he sounds when he sings ballads.

It must be a completely different experience reacting to all these great songs from the 60's and 70's in a relatively short period of time verses listening to them as they were released over that 20 year period as many of us had. As I recall, after Angie became such a huge hit the band was often referred to as "Mick Jagger and The Rolling Stones". I never cared for that. Beautiful song though. My favorite by them followed by Fool To Cry.

My “Angie” passed away this year. Her kisses will always be sweet!!
I believe that song was written about Angela Bowie, a groupie, who had seen the nether regions of many a Rockstar, and one time David Bowie’s wife.
