As is so often the case in music its the silence that is important, so though I like the “Pen behind the ear” part of the song the gaps of silence between them are as important.
HOW?... Have you SEEN Morcambe and Wise, doing the "Stripper " Routine, (they must have spent endless hours rehearsing), THAT!, was One of the greatest comedy routines,(if not the greatest!).The Two Ronnie's, (four candles sketch).Any Monty Python ....
@@johnhendry6636 Only hours practising? How long do you think Tim Vine spent mastering the art of throwing the pen behind his ear....then not throwing the pen behind his ear and building the tension, including creating his own sound track, until his audience cheered at something so completely ridiculous? That joke would have taken months to construct in its entirety. Also, comedy is subjective. There is no best comedy. It's all about personal preference. Some people can appreciate all the comics you mentioned AND Tim Vine. My 3 year old would literally fall over laughing at Parliament Question Time- every time. Grown men being told off by the Speaker was apparently hilarious. There is no accounting for taste. The world would be a boring place if we all liked the same things. Viva la différence!
This is comedy gold, the frantic music makes it even harder to do😅, Tim getting it finally and then the crowd cheering him on, I love this clip. Thanks for posting it.
He's actually really good at doing it, I've seen him do it on the first attempt in an interview, he says that during the show he ekes it out and makes the section last for a couple of minutes
My wife and I come from Finland, and we went to our friend's house and watched Tim Vine's DVD and we couldn't stop laughing at Pen Behind the Ear. Its so funny!
REALLY, So Billy Connelly, Chris Rock, Richard Prior, Louis CK, and the Master, George Carlin, (i am a Brit BTW), need to "take a knee" to this comedian, Are you serious?...Tim himself, would not be that audacious .Or, are you just too young?.
@@johnhendry6636 i think all spinout3 meant was that hes different, not that hes better, and also we all have preferences. My preference is Lee Mack's style but i still watch loads of others and to be honest Tim Vine is now right at the top too
I tried Teller Behind the Ear, but ran out of time. Her lunch break ended and she went back to work at the bank. Still, got some interesting video footage.
I think this was in the UK, not America- so the US constitution wouldn't apply... It was amazing when he actually got it! I've got to learn how to do that... Thanks for uploading!
Very funny! Although half way thru it almost became like watching sport. I got really into it! I was like, "come on, Tim!" . I cheered when he did it too!
for the people that dont like this, it is clearly alternate comedy, meaning that not everybody has the same kind of humour, this is kind of the same style of monty python just because of the pure randomness of it especialy to the americans this isnt just what british people laugh at there are lots of british comedians each with different styles for example, observational: mark watson, dark comedy: frankie boyle and randomness : tim vine
the funny thing is, he can do this after 1 or 2 attempts. look at 4:09 that's the nod to tell the sound guy/cameraman man to say get ready, as going to actually do it. The man is a comedy genius who got a theatre full of adults full attention for nearly 5 mins while trying to do an "impossible" party trick, which he is actually very good at. I saw a clip of him doing this where he got something like 18 out of 20 pens behind his ear in less than 1 minute. Can't find it on UA-cam, but was a Scottish Breakfast type talk show (like This Morning, but in scotland)
It is total genius... the music, the build up and the fact he does finally do it. A great comedy moment.
Every gig too
The payoff for this joke is amazing.
This should of been a special task for Tim whilst on Taskmaster
The longer he tries and fails, the funnier the end joke is.
For a man that sustained an average of one joke every 7.2 seconds for an hour, this is a single joke lasing 4 minutes 20 seconds. Quite a difference.
Must be a big laser.
But he keeps this bit of nonsense entertaining for nearly five minutes, while everyone expects him to cheat somehow - brilliant.
@@MirlitronOneI remain amazed by this. Utterly, utterly daft yet strangely brilliant.
My favourite part of the song is when it goes "Pen behind the ear"
I like the other part.
Neither of you have any musical taste, that's obvious! The best part is "Pen behind the ear"!
I'm a little more partial to "pen behind the ear" really speaks to me
As is so often the case in music its the silence that is important, so though I like the “Pen behind the ear” part of the song the gaps of silence between them are as important.
At what point does that song ever go "Pen behind the ear"?
Last year I sampled the music loop and got most of my friends to use it as their ring tone. We were hated. Oh, yes! :D
My little sister is six, and she absolutely loves this! It just go's to show how wide his audience is because his comedy's clean. Pure class.
It`s one of the greatest, bravest, and funniest bits ever made................it takes huge balls................😆
It would be best if it took huge ears
pure brilliance , the crowds reaction when he finally does it says it all :)
Yeah.. the look at the watch absolutely killed me!
One of the greatest comedy routines of the last 50 years, Absolute genius! 🤣

Something about pens I think...
Penby hide the year
Thought it was Ben beside at fear

Did he get the job?
@@spodule6000 😂😂😂
Did I just watch a bloke throw pens over his shoulder for 5 mins? Yes. Yes I did
And was it enjoyable?
Yes... Yes it was
Actually saw this on disc so I've seen this alot
"and now ladies and gentlemen, the other ear!!" hahaha!
I could watch him do this all night. Its strangely hypnotic!
Someone shouting "come on Tim!" from the audience! It's like wimbledon!
this never fails to make me laugh! Tim is great!
i'm glad i took the time to post this video now! Glad you all enjoy x
christ I actually jumped out of my seat and cheered! Tim vine is classic!
I’m so glad this was part of his set in Glasgow on Wednesday. Loved seeing it live. So funny!
I will never forget when I first saw this, I was in tears. Funniest thing ever. Genius.
I have watched this like 3 times in the last 30 minutes and my face hurts from smiling and laughing so much :D I love this act! :D
I watched this last night, and i was sat on my own applauding the TV when he did it.Tim Vine is excellent... and now, hockey stick behind the ear!
There is always a member of the audience who calls out for Tim to do this! Legendary
On and off all day yesterday after watching this I was quietly singing to myself - "pen behind the ear, pen behind the ear..."
My wife and I come from Finland, and we went to our friend's house and watched Tim Vine's DVD and we couldn't stop laughing at Pen Behind the Ear. Its so funny!
"...yeah, for a living."
This man is an inspiration! Keep trying and great things will happen!
I saw his show last night. He did Pen Behind The Ear in the encore and achieved it in the second burst of music on about pen number twenty 🤣
I'm right there with you. I had tears down my face.
pen behind the ear shud go straight to number one in the charts what a tuneee
This is funny for so many reasons. I used to hate props in comedy til Tim reminded me why visual comedy is also awesome.
God, I've tried this for SO long. One day.......One day
Ear behind the pen.
That was BRILLIANT !!!
I just watched this today and I don't think I've ever laughed so much in my life, it's so ridiculous.
Honestly one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen! Nice work Tim 👍
This is just something you never think you would find amusing, and then you watch it...
I never thought watching someone trying to land a pen behind his ear for 5 minutes could be so engrossing.
I'm going to learn that song!
Wish there was an Mp3 of pen behind the ear its epic ahahaha!
very original comedy. nobody does stand up like tim . class. thanks for posting.

🎼 Pen behind the other ear, pen behind the other ear! 🎶

Even just the music is utterly ace. Tim rules. Official.
Just a joy of a man
He did this in the encore of his show last week. Was worth the wait.
Best 5 minutes I'll never get back.
It’s so simple and the funniest thing I’ve seen in ages
hes so original and hilarious, why isnt he more famous?
Saw him do this at the Bloomsbury yesterday, brilliant. ought one of the pens afeterwards!
I like the bit where the pen goes behind the ear.
Will be singing "pen behind the ear" all day. PS if you like this, search on UA-cam for 'hockey stick behind the ear"
And now ladies and gentleman, the other ear!
I dont know about anyone else, but i was certainly clapping in delight :D
Love this. Totally mad , made me laugh 😂
Utter brilliance!!!!!
This should be an Olympic event
why do i feel compelled to sing along? pen behind the ear... pen behind the-ear!!!
The audience is so on board with this, it’s great!
True Diligence earns respect. Tim, you are everything crazy and good about England. AND an example to Christians the world over.
im actually addicted to this song Im gna get an mp3 of it for my ipod. Such A Tuuuune
All this practising of Pen Behind The Ear is why in Taskmaster he was able to get the scales hook to latch onto his jacket on first attempt.
If you don't know, you'll never know.
I was never in doubt....
I've never seen some one get such a massive cheer for something so silly LOL
I love this lol the music cracks me up aswell :-D

Greatest moment in TV caught live on camera
i love this song

love tim
4:23 I love how one guy in the upper circle is on his feet applauding a successful pen behind the ear
That was brilliant.
i love his face everytime he nearly does it :)

Its amazing how entertaining this is. Its weird how you just get so into it by making the oohs just like the audience

There's not a person in that room that didn't
a: Find themselves singing that song the next day,
and b: try it when they got home!!
Interesting that he has one gag lasting 5 minutes when normally that would he would do 30 in that time.
this shouldn't be funny. yet i'm cryin my effin eyes out! classic!
I'll never get those 5 minutes back.
went to see him do this routine
it took him 3 replays of the song
but when he finally got it the crowd went mad :3
nice one lol I once was at a restaurant with this comedian suddenly he said he couldn't any more and went home.I had stuffed vine leaves
The suspense !!!
I liked the bit where he put the pen behind the ear.
Got a pen behind my ear on the 11th go!
anyone else gonna go try this now
Tim is the best!!!!!!!
When asked what he played, Freddie Mercury said .."mainly, I play the audience..."
Freddie, you've met your match........
Crying with laughter.. straight up crying..
Favourite lyrics = Pen behind the ear.
Of all the people that do that trick, he is definitely one of them
Simply genius.
haha, especially the balls to do it on the one he's recording!
