Amazing job. You are already being referred to! Not being hard core player, glad to make somehow my RP5 working, but it's just pleasure to watch your videos.
I tried to use the official retriod launcher, because its there and wants to open anyway (plus controls the LEDs) it actually does work pending a few things: you dont update to the latest version before downloading all the systems and you don't care about the systems its missing, also its picky about what your files are named and you may have to download box art. Most people hate it but it has all the settings you need for the consoles it has if you hunt around a bit. I sent them feedback to update it with (many) more consoles and a few other things. Would love to see it be a competitive front end launcher one day. (plus would advertise their brand if people on other android systems were getting it to use)
Hey! Made it min 1 today! Looking forward to the video, Ryan! Sorry to hear about mobilization. 😕 must be the work of the company that makes the Secret Console 😤
I really appreciate you looking into Stardew Valley pc modding for the RP5. That’s something I’m super interested in but haven’t found many videos on the subject
I love those too! Would prefer if they focused more o games that can't be played through other better means (like, GTA SA runs great on PS2 emulation, Hades on S emu, etc... Great stuff still
If you're looking for game recommendations, Driver: San Francisco runs well on Winlator-I get around 30 FPS on a Snapdragon 778G 5G using Winlator @ Frost 8.0R1 V3 (Proot) with the Box64 preset set to 'Intermediate.' Blur (racing game) also works decently on the 778G, though keep in mind that the Retroid Pocket 5 has a Snapdragon 865, which is more powerful. Miside runs okay on my 778G as well, so I’d guess the games I mentioned should work on your device too.
I got SWAT 4 working on it the other night. Pity my Bluetooth keyboard and mouse are somewhere else, but still…it seemed to be running it better than my M2 Mac via Wine.
It's never crashed for me after many hours. I think I used an older turnip driver with the newest dxvk. I remember a 90ms delay on the audio being necessary too
The line graph under the fps represents the frame pacing. Normaly it should be pretty flat meaning frames get rendered at an even rate, but in the case of nfs for example its very eratic meaning the frames feel really choppy even though it is over 30 fps
The only game that I want to try was Final Fantasy 9 with Moguro Mod and successfully run it in 1080p on RP5. Near perfect accept for random freeze but the mod has auto save which helps a lot! The cell shaded mod looks amazing on RP5.
skyrim on yuzu turnip 4v2, skyrim runs amazing, on the secret console. been running around riverwood, perfect so far, a few flashes at intro dragon scene but after that its perf. havnt done any adventuring or exploring yet lol
Enjoy your videos . . New to the retro handheld scene and was interested in buying my first retro handheld and was wondering what recommendations you would direct me too . . Appreciate any recommendations . . Thank you
Thanks! Retroid make really solid devices in this price range so check out the 5 or the Mini. If you want something more expensive and powerful, check out the AYN Odin line. They recently released the Odin 2 Portal which I will be reviewing next month! If you want something cheaper, check out Anbernic - they have every kind of device imaginable and release a new one every month (for better or worse). I have the Anbernic RG34xx which is a GBA. They also have an SP and loads of other styles!
Top tip...... Remove anything that says "Nintendo" or "Switch" on your channel, we all know how arsey they are about their toys and the fact that they don't like to share or play nicely with others.
Nintendo themselves came out and said emulation is perfectly legal. They just don’t like how emulators don’t have code written in them forcing players to buy games. Emulators will allow you to download a game or a copy from a friend and play where the switch actually has a code in it that won’t allow that. This information came out about 2 weeks ago in which the lawyer for Nintendo said that it’s legal
Hi Ryan, I have figured out skyrim's issue, it is way better to just use the GOG version, rp5 is capable of running skyrim AE but skyrim SE can stable on 60fps while AE can only run at 30ish, another issue is the stripes on the screen, you will need to add environment variables MESA_VK_WSI_DEBUG=sw and MESA_VK_WSI_PRESENT_MODE=mailbox or MESA_VK_WSI_PRESENT_MODE=immediate
the graph on the nfs one shows that the frame pacing is all over the place. it should be as flat as possible. at a good frame pacing even 30 fps feels buttery smooth.
Look, I don't wanna be annoying, but I can't not explain something if someone misunderstands it It not about whether we are used to 50 or 60 fps, but it's about whether the 50fps game can sync well with a 60hz panel 25 fps games look horrible on 60fps tvs, because 25 can't sync with 60, it syncs with 50, and so 25fps doesn't sync well with 60hz panels or 120hz panels, this is why 45fps is viable on the steam deck OLED because the panel is 90, and half of 90 is 45
I love and subscribed to your channel. May I know if you have tried playing prototype 2 in our RP5? I hope you could help me to the best settings. Cheers!
Should I buy a handheld PC or an Android handheld? Is the RP5 the best in this price range, bro? I'm only playing games like Genshin Impact, zzz, WW, Honkai Star Rail... (I have a laptop for other tasks).
What kind of games would you like to play? In the price range and size category I think the RP5 is the best thing out there right now. If you're happy spending more and getting something bigger, the Steam Deck is also fantastic!
I think I heard that the original Skyrim will NOT run under Winlator but Skyrim Special Edition will. The Google IA seems to agree with me. Do you have the latest version of SE?
Hi Ryan, please do a Video about es-de vs daijisho vs beacon. That would be super nice, I can't decide and would like to know if they have any differences other than appearance. Thanks a lot!
Sorry about your demonetization, I just supported you on Patreon. I own a Switch and have bought all my games, but the way Nintendo treats their community makes me want to pirate all their games.
I don't think you quite understand the impact of the resolution - in many cases, games can run faster at 720p or 1080p. This is to do with the (windows) driver but don't expect the old lower=faster rule to apply here.
I think you should only try Windows exclusive games. Because games like San Andreas, Hollow Knight, Stardew Valley.. have their own ports on Android and work very well, some are also on secret console.
Problem is not everyone owns those or wants to repurchase them if they already have a windows version. It might make for a good video to compare them though.
It is great. I'm hoping that through my tests and community spreadsheets, all the tinkering will come together until we have great resources you can use to just follow along with and you'll have an easier experience. We can collect all our tinkering results and then just copy each others settings to get games working well
Hello Ryan. Great video, I tried to play stardew with winlator an the experience was awful, so i didnt even tried playing with mods. I would love a more in depth tutorial on how to set up winlator, to achive the same result as you. Thank you for the videos.
Hmmm i actually had skyrim running pretty well I wasn't experiencing crashes at all. I think you have to change that one setting from performance to stability/compatability or something. If anyone wants it I can check my settings. Don't get your hopes up too much though out in the wilderness you get between 27 and 40ish and this is at the lowest possible setting . Usually about 33 near riverwood but the fps jumping around annoys me a bit. If there's a mod or something to lock it to 30 though it feels totally playable and enjoyable. Just a slightly compromised experience.
I have one on the way. I mostly intend to use it to emulate retro stuff, but I hope I'll be able to fire up some indie PC games as well. Any idea how to get games on Winlator? I don't exactly intend to go the Jack Sparrow route, but I don't think I'll be able to install games from my steam library here. So I'll have to find a way to somehow have a cracked version of those games running on this. And before anyone get alarmed by the mention of Indie game piracy, don't. I've paid for the games and supported the devs. I just need to find out how to get a version of those games running over here.
Darn you monetization gremlins! Well at least you can't tick anyone off with winlator content and it's seems like a decent harvest season with all the various methods to play and possible games. I take it these are all the DRM free versions?
Instead of the new NFS MW, you might want to play the original 2005 version. Even in a snapdragon 855 devices, it runs 60fps at 960x554 and in my opinion, it is a far better game than the new one.
As with most stuff emulation related, it's probably something with a "secret console" game I'm guessing something first party related like Exhale of the Crazy and they claimed some random bit like they did to Retro Game Corps. _(shakes fist in their general direction)_
Nintendo looking over any retro device channel with a fine comb it’s not even just switch, they want to sell you the same old games 25 times and have arguably worse emulation then even the people that work on them for free. I’m all for supporting devs absolutely but there really should be a free use limit, after 15-20 years the majority of the people that worked on the game aren’t going to get paid I think Nintendo too aggressive.
Hi Ryan, please do a Video about es-de vs daijisho vs beacon. That would be super nice, I can't decide and would like to know if they have any differences other than appearance. Thanks a lot!
I'll be honest, I'm shocked that Bethesda hasn't released an Android port of Skyrim.
Just Cause 2, Dishonored, Sleepy Dogs and Mirror's Edge runs pretty good too. Just adding a few to the list 😉 Good vid 😮
Sleepy Dogs? :)
