Yes, I think so, the OMEN 17 screen is much better and this 96W new 11th i7 is very powerful. However, if you are a very heavy user, I think a good external display is also a good solution.

I saw the price is really high, you might check with the HP official website as well, usually they have some discount there. This model has pretty limited stock now, I would suggest you to wait for a while, if you are not in hurry to use it. However, I think it just wrong labeled, since there is no config for 2021 OMEN 17 equipped with 10th intel CPU.
I have the model which has the i7 but the RTX 3060, best decision I ever made. The variant I have has the 2K screen but does not have the mechanical keyboard. I absolutely love it as it stays pretty cool, but is such a great machine.

If you want a better screen (higher resolution) go with the HP Omen 17, if you want to squeeze out a bit more FPS then go with the MSI GP76 Leopard as it's FHD 1080p. The HP Omen 17 drains a bit more of the GPU as it's Quad HD

Hi, the i5 is 6 cores 12 threads vs i7 8 cores 16 threads. So if you are a gamer, I think that is fine. Since not so many game can use all the 8 cores. But if you are a heavy CPU user for rendering or other engineering computing work. The i7 might be a better choice. I think 3060 is good enough for gaming at 1080p. But for 2K resolution, the 3070 might be a better choice.
For just a few more hundreds bucks you could get the 3070, but if your budget is tight it's a good choice, though you may want to upgrade in maybe 3 to 5 year.
The rank# is not critical, but you need to be careful about the density. The stock memory is single rank with 16 banks, which is high density. You might looking for the low density RAMs. The easiest way is to check how many dies on the module. The more dies, the lower density.
I just got this monster yesterday. I also have the omen 15 so I have a 200 watt and 230 watt charger. These two will charge the omen 17 and run it at most of it's performance but it will throttle in intense gaming and high you usage apps. Otherwise it's normal performance. So maybe this is an alternative when mobile to save on carry weight?

I don't know about that exact comparison, but I tested both the 16" and 17" with 1080p screen. The 16 inch had the AMD Ryzen 5800h processor and 32GB. The 17 inch had the intel 11800h processor and 16GB. Differences: - The 16 inch has the Max Q variant of the RTX 3070, so it has less power than the 17 inch. - The keyboard of the 16 inch is more clicky but misses the row of macro keys on the left. - The screen of the 16 is smaller but brighter.than the 17 inch 1080p 144 hz screen. - The Intel WiFi in the 17 inch is faster than the 16 inch WiFi. - The 17 inch has the Thunderbolt port which the 16 inch is missing due to the AMD processor. Both systems can be tuned to be almost silent in light use (e.g. non gaming). I returned the 16 inch and kept the 17 inch, because of the larger screen (old eyes) and better performance.

My omen 17 came with SKH ram rated for 3200 but is only pushing about 2933. I think the 3200 is xmp profile and the system doesn’t support XMP.

Yes, the one I got is a Samsung DDR6 GPU memory, which can easily OC +1000MHz. I could get around 62MH/s.

- The 17 inch has the Thunderbolt port which the 16 inch is missing due to the AMD processor.
Both systems can be tuned to be almost silent in light use (e.g. non gaming). I returned the 16 inch and kept the 17 inch, because of the larger screen (old eyes) and better performance.

Yes, I think so. I tested some software like Maya and Solidworks. This machine works pretty well.
