Jennifer, it's so hard to work with! Since making this video gotten a rolling pin, and that helps, but a plastic cup or sturdy glass works in a pinch. If it continues to shrink, let it rest 5 minutes or so and then roll it some more. I also brush it with olive oil before topping. I'm really happy it was useful for you!
That's great Dawn!! I generally think of dinner recipes as guidelines, because it's so easy to alter them to our own personal tastes. I've been make dough from scratch in my bread machine recently, and I've really come to like that version the best. It's a little extra planning, but so worthwhile, and the left overs are fantastic.
For the stretch - it is easy to just lay it down on a bed of semolina and stretch on the counter by pressing and rotating. It's easier and you get a round even pie! Good move with the proofing for 2 hrs. Also, if you'd like to step it up try making your own sauce with tomato puree which is basically peeled, seeded and cooked tomato. Just add olive oil garlic and onion to a pan, saute add puree, some italian herbs and simmer for 30 mins. Way worth it over the Trader Joe's sauce! Happy cookings.
Oh thank you for the tips! I don't have a round pie pan, so that's why I use the oblong one in my pizza bakes. I've had to give up onions and garlic since I made this video which is very sad!! But I'm doing my best.
@@Koji-888 It’s literally a canned tomatoes with minced garlic sugar salt oregano and olive oil. I think I can make one in under two minutes! You got this!
You're welcome Jim! I'm started making these pizzas in 1/4 sheet pans and the results are so much better! You might need to make two of them, but the dough is 100% easier to manage in the smaller pan.
Hi Russsell! I like a silicone baking mat for pizza and for roasting veggies. You won't get that brown chewy crust like you do from a pizzeria, but it's still pretty good. Also, you don't want to run the oven above 450 degrees F with these. Check the instructions that come with the mat if you do get one. Parchment paper is also a great non stick surface. I tend to use the silicone for savory and parchment for sweet. But the paper works great in any situation and is less expensive. Thank you for your lovely comment, and I hope you can bake some pizza at home!
@@rlo313 I had one years ago, but it's been gone forever. I think that would be ok with a frozen pizza. But working from a dough, I think you need a solid bottom. But I am not a pizza expert. I'm just a home cook sharing some things I make and are easy to prepare.
You're welcome! I've started making the trader joe pizza dough in quarter size sheet pans, and it makes a perfect pizza without the struggle of stretching it out!
Thank you so very much!! It's a REALLY good homemade pizza. The dough can be a challenge to roll out, so let it come up room temp before rolling. That helps.
Thanx for shoving it right in my face! haha. It looks delish & glad I can't smell it! Good for you growing your own basil. Great vid & thanx for sharing :D
Kathy Tincler What would we do without them?? I grow a lot of my own herbs. They are so much better than store bought and it's a lot cheaper in the end.
Well, I understand that having a pan or a stone in the oven as it preheats so it's piping hot and then putting the raw pizza on that to bake helps a lot. You also need an oven that runs like 500 degrees or even 550. It's very hard to achieve a pizza restaurant result in a home oven. You also need a flour for pizza making that is better than all purpose. To be honest, I generally find the pizza is better the next day when I reheat it in the air fryer, but I can never wait that long to start eating it. An actual pizza oven is different from a home oven and pretty hard to replicate, but I still like my home baked concoctions.
You're so welcome!! I still have difficulty with this dough, even with a "rest." So I don't know what the secret is to having success every time. But it certainly is yummy whether perfect or not. I appreciate you taking time to comment.
@@beatleswift1 You too!! I've been making from scratch recently, so I want to share that coming up soon! Pizza is always so good. I probably make one at least twice a month. Enjoy!!
The way she prepped and cooked this dough has NOTHING to do with the instructions on the back of Trader Joes pizza dough bag. This dough is frustruating to work with. Dough barely rises too. Im gonna have to learn to make my own dough instead.
It's is terrible to work with, which was kind of my point in showing the difficulty in getting it to roll out. Whole Foods is even worse. I have made dough in a bread machine and it's very sticky. It's good, but it's sticky and also wants to shrink back. It's something to do with the gluten. There is a premade dough I really like but I haven't been filming recipe vides anymore so I didn't use it for the channel as an update. I hope you find something that works for you. There are tons of recipes out there to try.
If it makes you feel better to call it that, then ok, Angelica. Live it up, girl. But I made it in my home kitchen, so that's homemade to me. And when you make and publish your own video, you can call it whatever you choose.
