In this video we finish replacement/upgrade of the front passenger seat springs in our W126. We added one inch of foam also to firm up the seat! With the stiffer springs and added foam, this seat now feels like it came from a much more modern car. We also disassembled the slide rails, removed corrosion, did some painting and lubed everything up nicely.
Observations: I will need to replace the plastic trim that goes along the side of the seat at some point but the trim I have now will work for a while. It has some cracking but is being held together with JB Weld.

Thanks to you now I can tackle this with full awareness of what I'm getting into; also with much more confidence and I'll know what tools and materials to put in place beforehand! These cars are worth the effort I think - maybe they are just a little in their "awkward age" at the moment and with NLA parts left and right; but the aftermarket will get going sooner or later and make parts more available - maybe they are waiting for patents to expire? On thing I want to do but need to find out is how to remove the entire carpet while I have the seats out - I think the sill plates are the main difficulty - easy to break off the plastic retention tabs.

I am still stranded in my work here in Saudi Arabia because of the present pandemic.... The memory seats on the higher trim cars make it a bit more interesting when you take off the seat rails.

God I love looking out over the hood of a Mercedes from the inside with that emblem sticking up.
Mine actually doesn't have that. It has a flat round plate but I can replace that with the star ornament one day soon. And the paint on my hood is in pretty bad shape though. No shine to it. Oh well.
Seems I heard that stuffing in the seat is horse hair. So I imagine there are a bunch of bald horses running around Germany. Lol
You did a good job on that and like you said it should last you another 36 years. I'll be 107 by then. Will you stick around to let me know?
My seat switches on my Volvo were on the side of the seat and the wiring was soldered on so I could not fix it. The seat back went all the way back and would not come back up, so a passenger always had to ride in the back. Piece of junk.

I fully intend to Werner. LOL.... The old Volvo car division is now owned by Geely out of China. The Swedes retained the truck division of Volvo however. Modern Volvo cars are but a shadow of their former self.

@@ImpalamansGarage I remember hearing a while back that engine in the new S90 is made in China. That's a scary thought.
Luckily I don't have any problems with the seat controls on my Mercedes-Benz except the headrest on the drivers seat doesn't want to move. I've watched a few videos on that and it should be an easy fix. Supposedly the wiring by the motor needs to be tied down so it is not loose. We'll see. I think I'll wait till it is not so hot to go out and fool with it. I don't have a usable garage to work in.
I would have done the drivers seat on my car for your repair. The passenger can just lump it. Lol
The upholstery on both my front seats is torn. Seems it is really thin. I'll have to have it redone by a professional one day.

Love your videos. Can the driver seat bottom cover be replaced without removing the seat itself? Thanks.. My 380se seat bottom cover is a disaster, the rest is all good.

@@ImpalamansGarage At 7:30 in the Part 1 video (ua-cam.com/video/cxY8DBb6Txk/v-deo.html), it is shown you have removed the bottom of the chair - (cushion and cover) while outside of vehicle. Couldn't this be accomplished without pulling the entire seat out of the car?. I ask this because I paid $400 for a new leather cover and upholstery guys want 300+ to install. 🥴Thanks..Keep up the great work.! EDIT: The video shows you took a coffee break so maybe I missed something that wasn't recorded.. Maybe the horsehair pad is connected to the seat frame and can't be reached while in the car?

Hey what's up its John, I run the om617rebuild.com website.... We've chatted before on your UA-cam. Anyway I just wanted to say really nice work on your restoration. it's all about the details and I love how you cover every little detail. for example you painted the tracks on the seats when that's not even visible to anyone. That's the right way to do it! Anyway shoot me an email through my website so we can connect over email. I'm currently restoring 126 chassis and a 116 chassis.
