@@calvindyson No problem and I’m sure I will do! Looking forward to the new videos to come. Yeah, I know what you mean. Watching these videos has been keeping me occupied the last couple of weeks. Keep them coming!
No way! That's pretty cool, I never really played many of the handheld versions. I do remember loving EON on the GBA and I had a friend who had Nightfire but they were never quite the same...
12:15 Night Watch used to creep me out back in the day. Mainly cuz of the music and sneaking around trying to avoid Elektra's security guards. And how the body armours were just hanging onto nothing (like they were hoovering in midair) in random places like in a cupboard or that garage where we deal with Davidov. Also found it kind of creepy how the baddies would come running up to you while they're trying to shoot you dead.
I never thought someone would actually echo my thoughts completely. I had an absolute phobia with this level when I was little, I hated it so much that it was actually like taking a 50lbs weight off my shoulder when it was over. The music alone as a kid terrified me. lol
I played the N64 version of this game. Nothing but fond memories growing up. This and GoldenEye 64 is what made me fall in love with the Bond franchise.
The “Christmas only comes once year” scene is in the game as a bonus video for the final level. I can’t remember how to unlock it as it’s been a good 16-18 years since I last played the game.
_James Bond 007_ on the Game Boy had a Casino where you could play Blackjack. In fact, you had to win a certain amount in order to progress through the game. Got rather tedious after a while, actually.
That's interesting! I'd like to get to that game some day as I never played it way back when... I wish these older Bond games were more readily available on current consoles. I suppose the licencing is such a chore for anyone to figure out to get the games rereleased that they just don't bother.
Calvin Dyson It’s like this one. If you find your old Game Boy in the loft, perhaps go on eBay and pick up the game cart for a fiver. But it’s not a game worth hunting down an old Game Boy just to play (I suppose with handhelds you don’t have to faff about making it work with new TVs). It’s not bad, but it isn’t amazing either.
@@calvindyson in addition to playing Blackjack, you can also play a card game called Red Dog and Baccarat as well in the James Bond 007 game for Gameboy. Once you have $25,000 , you then go into the high rollers room and play Baccarat with one of the lesser villains. Additionally, by inputting the right password at the start of the game, you can skip right to the casino level and play one of the three card games independently of your progress in the main story. I always liked this feature, as playing Baccarat really made me feel like James Bond himself.
Most of my gaming has been on Nintendo consoles, so I can’t say I’ve played this one. I’ve been playing through it’s N64 sibling, though, and been enjoying that - it’s the 2nd Bond game made by Eurocom after, uh, _James Bond Jr_ for the NES. Interesting that this one felt like _Agent Under Fire_ because N64 TWINE definitely felt a lot like _Nightfire_ to me. Probably because Eurocom also made the latter. Side note: Cigar Girl stabbing that man without a knife reminded me of the film _Daleks: Invasion Earth - 2150 AD_ in which many of the extras had to mime hurling bombs in an action scene because they ran out of bomb props. It’s quite clear they’re only throwing air at the Daleks, but it still makes them explode.
I'm really looking forward to playing the N64 version, more so now that I know it's from Eurocom! I've also been more of a Nintendo fan my whole life so I'm surprised I never got TWINE for the N64 when I was a kid... Maybe it just never arrived to our small local shops where I would usually get games from. Back before the internet was the go-to place for such things!
That makes sense as Eurocom developed both the N64 TWINE and (console) Nightfire, whereas Agent Under Fire began life as a PS2 version of The World Is Not Enough.
Calvin Dyson the N64 version is worth checking out. Quite different from the PS1 version some new levels , others aren t there. Somewhat more realistic weapons graphics. Actual skying and so on. Discovered the PS1 version in lenght thanks to your video so thank you for that. I wouldn’t have guessed there were quite many elements PS1 did actually better than N64 . Definitely will give it a try asap. And, yeah, enjoy a martini and keep up the goos jobs with your videos. Cheers from France.
The thought of an old lady being in the middle of a pub firefight while clutching her sherry had me in hysterics. You painted such an accurate picture 😂 I never played the PS1 version of TWINE but I still have it for the N64.
I've come to your channel recently after playing through TWINE on N64. Your content is excellent, and having been a Bond fan for most of my life, it's nice to see someone who loves the franchise as much as I do. And who's so knowledgeable about it too! Great work!
That npc movement in the casino reminds me of the drug lectures I'd get back in elementary school warning that drugs will make you think bugs are crawling all over you.
Noticed regardless of what outfit Bond is wearing at the start of each mission when you see his wrists/arms throughout the levels it looks like he is rockin' a tuxedo !
Nice review, Calvin! Really looking forward to when you get around to the N64 version of this game. Maybe I'm biased because I grew up a Nintendo guy but I think that version of the game is superior to the PS1 version, especially since the PS1's graphics haven't aged particularly well...
Thanks! I'm quite looking forward to getting to that too. Was always more of a Nintendo guy myself too. Think I'll likely get to TWINE N64 after GoldenEye but we'll see how it goes... Next big project will be TSWLM review!
The nostalgia, I remember playing this game as a kid (in 2009 i wasn’t around in the 90’s). fun fact: From what i know the only other james bond game to feature a gambling mini game was the DS version of blood stone.
One game to review is a game called Operation Stealth it was a point n click adventure game from 1990 released on Amiga, PC and Atari ST. When it came out in the US Interplay had just secured the Bond licence and they renamed the game to James Bond The Stealth Affair and changed some characters name. Orginally instead of Bond his name was John Glames
5:23 I reckon it is a cigar holder in courtesy of the movie. At the start of the movie in lechaise's office (might've not spelled that right), the girl who kills lechaise gives bond a cigar holder with a cigar inside.

When I played Night Watch as a kid, I figured out that punching the guards actually makes their models disappear whereas if you stun them with your phone or tranquilizer darts, they'll still wake up.
Agree with everything in this review. Loved this game as a kid and even though I prefer the N64 version and played that more, especially the multi-player. I still hold a lot of fondness for this version and have nothing but happy memories. It's still fun to play in 2020 even though it is very much a product of the late 90's.
27:50 You can play the game on PS3 too, although I noticed an audio glitch in the mission briefings. Alternatively, if you have a jailbroken PSP or Vita you can play it as an eboot rip.
It would be nice if you could do a video of bonds failed disguises/personas. Such as Dr hilary bray in on her majesty's secret service , the military general in the opening scene of 🐙, the nuclear scientist in the world is not enough , sir singent smityhe in a view to a kill, the arms dealer in the opening scene of die another day etc...
Fun fact: The music in the mission Night Watch is remixed in the missions: Cold Reception, Bad Diplomacy and Evil Summit in Agent Under Fire 007 for the GameCube/PS2/XBOX. Plus the music from the mission where bond tries to capture bullion is also remixed in Agent Under Fire.
That was amazing. Since I had the N64 I never had this one. Didn’t know it was so different. Looks like there was a lot of problem solving in the game not just shoot em up. Great review.
Thank you for looking at one of my personal favourites, Calvin ^^ Ive been looking forward to this! And I look forward to you looking at tomorrow never dies on ps1 sometime. Maybe even the DS games too. Stay safe, Calvin ^^
Calvin Dyson Ohhh hell yes. I cant wait. May I also recommend you at least have a look at the game boy advance versions of nightfire and everything or nothing? Obviously they are different from the console version, but they are quite interesting parts of the Bond gaming library ^^
I've been waiting for you to get 'round to covering this one! The developers at Black Ops would only go on to develop a pair of the most reviled first-person shooters in the sixth console generation ('Fugitive Hunter: War on Terror' and 'Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines'). And speaking as someone from the more "hardcore" end you alluded to? I tend to put this game right alongside those on account of its weak gunplay / generally flat design. It's obviously totally valid to find enjoyment in it from the Bondian perspective, and I can see folk overlooking its many technical shortcomings as you did; but I can't help but fixate on some of the more prevalent flaws, and to spot the DNA for some of Black Ops' later games. Granted, perspectives can be largely skewed by anyone having played Eurocom's N64 take on TWINE, which feels so far superior in nearly every regard / iterates on the GoldenEye formula in incredibly satisfying fashion. You're in for a treat when you get around to that one -- especially if you're looking into arranging for some multiplayer gameplay. If you enjoyed 'Nightfire's multiplayer, know that it is a direct evolution of the mechanics established in TWINE, going so far as to share some stages. I would also recommend attempting to play the game on 'Secret Agent' if at all possible, for the sake of the expanded mission objectives and such. Anyhow: Left this comment in the interest of weighing in on what might well be one of the weakest Bond games from my perspective, after having seen how much you comparatively seemed to get out of it. Maybe I need to give this game a more fair shot again? At the very least, it's better than 'Rogue Agent!' Writing a longform article around the development / content of that game sucked the life from me, but it's also how I first discovered your channel some time ago. Silver linings, I suppose!
In regards to the casino level and the lack of similar such levels in Bond games, the Game Boy Zelda “clone” Bond game actually had a casino in the Merrikesh part of the game where you had to win enough money in order to gain access to the High Roller area and thus advance the plot, not to mention you could get Bond banned from the casino tables by winning too much and netting the hotel’s presidential suite in the process. Just pointing that out since that game doesn’t get much love from the community these days. 😊
If you watch the E3 2003 trailer for Everything or Nothing, Bond has a different voice actor that could be the same one as from this game and 007 Racing. That trailer was also released prior to Heidi Klum and Shannon Elizabeth joining the cast.
Great review, Calvin. I am ashamed to say though, that I preferred 'Tomorrow Never Dies' on the Playstation to this. I don't know why... I just love playing that game!
Brosnan era was truly remarkable. Wish he’d done moore films with better scripts. Calvin, your thoughts on Brosnan in a film like Skyfall or No Time To Die?
Thank you so much for making this video, it brought back soooooo many memories and I'm glad I'm not the only one that was frightened more than blofeld's cat when it came to that damn Radiation room. I've played every single game as well and I cant wait to see Tomorrow never dies since it had one of the BEST soundtracks (especially on boss fights, which oddly enough, you can find on Spotify)
Regarding 27:50 - Don’t forget that the PS3 also runs PS1 games. All models do it regardless of whether they contain the PS2 backwards compatibility. :) Thanks for the review, you’ve done an excellent job! I had the N64 version in my youth myself.... quite enjoyed it in spite of it not QUITE being up to the Goldeneye Standard - it still managed to be close.
I am a hardcore gamer, but I love you Bond game reviews, these games are as good as shooters get, sometimes even better than the competition, I know it takes time, but I hope to see your next review sooner than later (don't rush it though), because they are quite entertaining to see games in the franchise I haven't played, or roll back in Nostalgia for the ones that I did play. By the way, you know you can play PS1 games on PS3 as well? You failed to mention it, and I recall that you played on PS3 some of the later games, so that is one less system you would need to plug into your TV if that helps.
Thanks very much for this, I really appreciate it, especially coming from a self-confessed hardcore gamer as yourself. For some reason I don't think I'm able to play PS1 games on my PS3... I remember trying some years ago for it didn't work, I don't think I had the correct model or something like that.
I got this game for the N64 Christmas when I was 4 I think, such a good game, but I didn't realize it was so different on Ps1 ! Gonna have to try this one out
15:15 Wait, is that meant to be Robinson sending them voice messages? Was never sure whether it was meant to be Robinson or an impersonation of Michael Kitchen as Tanner as he and Robinson are both in the movie. Also when playing Blackjack in Russian Roulette, if you continue playing Blackjack after winning the money, Robinson sends a frustrating message telling 007 to stop wasting time and get back to Zukovsky's office to get information on Renard lol
Something about this version feels so budget compared to the N64 version, but at the same time has so many more quality enhancements and features. It's like getting Filet Mignon, but for some reason it's from McDonalds.
I think you really hit the nail on the head with "budget". Though I have no idea what the actual money spent on either game was, the PS1 version does feel so much more slapdash than the N64 version.
Hi Calvin! Great to get another game review man! Have you seen this coming Sunday @7 Pierce Brosnan will be doing a live commentary of Goldeneye??!!! Esquire are looking for people to send in questions for it
Brilliant review Cal. I remember this game being a lot of fun, during my first play through; maybe I should dust it off & give it another go, to see just how rusty I am, lol 😆😂 Sending you love as always ❤️❤️❤️
I found your channel about a year ago when I first started actually watching Bond and I really enjoy your stuff dude! Also, do you plan on doing a ranking of all the Bond games after you get done reviewing them all?
As someone who grew up with Agent Under Fire as one of his first video games ever, a part of me still wonders how that PS2 version of TWINE would have played. IIRC, I think I even saw some ads that came with the VHS/DVD release of the movie that showed screenshots of when Agent Under Fire was still a TWINE tie-in. Still, it's really cool to see how much of the mechanics and some animations and music had their origins in here and were retooled and reused come Agent Under Fire. If you like the cheats in PS1 TWINE, you should see some of the cheats you can fool around with in Tomorrow Never Dies.
I certainly hope you'll cover pre-GoldenEye and handheld Bond games eventually. Some truly interesting stuff outside of the 3D games and I love hearing your opinion on ANYthing Bond
I think the reason we don't get more gambling in Bond games has something to do with them breaking the pacing of the game, since they're almost always action- or stealth-oriented affairs. That, and people more casual to things like blackjack could get stuck for a fair bit like I did here as a kid. :Y
WOW! This looks so different from the N64! I played the N64 version and also it has a great place in my childhood.I played it for so many times but this PS1 version is so different hehe. Great video Calvin, this was so interesting to see! :D
11:36 maybe shes flipping her hair back? That's the only logical conclusion I can come up with. Also great video I hope you will check out the N64 version which is arguably superior.
Much nostalgia for this game! Though I remember first playing it as a child and had no idea how to play it XD I absolutely love the music behind "Turncoat" too, so much so that I've been trying to find it here on UA-cam for quite a while!
The ladies doing that weird yoga. If you interact with the lady at 11:48 who's boyfriend is standing by Zukovsky's door from an angle so her boyfriend's in the background, she looks more like she's actually pointing at him as she says "he's head of casino security, the one over by Zukovsky's door."
@@calvindyson No problem, watching your reviews for the old Bond games makes me really want to buy a playstation and replay them! Or even better, it would be so cool if they released them in a bundle for newer consoles.
Got this game around xmas of the year of release. Finished the base story within afew days. Spent weeks and weeks playing through the stages and perfecting my skills. Then watch the movie 😁
I started watching this thinking it was the game I had for the PS1. Think I had Tomorrow Never Dies though because of the 7 Series level and the printing press bit. Really enjoyed that one though!
I remember being so frustrated by the boss fight with Gabor in "Fallen Angel." It took me several tries to devise a strategy to run for cover, throw pipe bombs, and use the grenade launcher to weaken him and dispatch all the goons. When I finally defeated him, I couldn't believe what happened. I was in so much shock, I nearly blew the final part of the mission where I had to shoot Elektra.
Would be worth playing through the N64 version, as there are some differences - for instance, you get to play the assault on MI6 level. and if you've got a GameCube with the Gameboy Player, you can play the various Gameboy through to Gameboy Advance versions of 007 games, including The World is Not Enough and Everyting or Nothing. There is a DS version of GoldenEye: Rogue Agent, and Bloodstone as well.
A few things. 1: I'm not a huge fan of that ski level, but the Blackjack mission is pretty cool. 2: I'm advising against rapid fire shooting, as bullets don't effect enemies when they have their animations going on (this helps if one plays for score and cheats). 3: There's an extra FMV if one beats the game using the higher difficulty, containing that Christmas line. 4: I'm not a huge fan of protecting sequences either, be it Natalya or someone else. Definitely a fun game though, been having a blast recently with it. (Playing the NTSC-U/C version on actual PS1 (I live in Europe, so I've played the PAL version to death already), with a CRT TV, and with a PS2 controller as well, partly for having them vibrations, even though I have a PS1 controller that can vibrate as well.)
Had this bought for one Christmas. Playing it on a standard PS1 controller was next to impossible, promptly returned it and swapped for the N64 version. Gotta love that MI6 invasion level
13:24 ah yes, he’s been in some of my favourite films, Danish Actor.

I had this game on the PS1 never stopped playing it
Fun fact: The music in the mission Night Watch is remixed in the missions: Cold Reception, Bad Diplomacy and Evil Summit in Agent Under Fire 007 for the GameCube/PS2/XBOX. Plus the music from the mission where bond tries to capture bullion is also remixed in Agent Under Fire.
Another cracking vid! Oh how do you stay to consistently funny? :)
Hope you’re staying safe and healthy too!! Hope you enjoy the video :) and yes, TND on the PS1 will be the next game I look at :D
Calvin Dyson Ohhh hell yes. I cant wait. May I also recommend you at least have a look at the game boy advance versions of nightfire and everything or nothing? Obviously they are different from the console version, but they are quite interesting parts of the Bond gaming library ^^
FYI .... All PS3 models play PS1 games
It's interesting how Agent Under Fire started as a PS2 port of this game. That's why some music, sfx and weapons are carried over :)
Love these. So nostalgic and fun to listen to. Keep it up!
YES! Bond 6 Bond 26 BRING BACK PIERCE BROSNAN!!!!!!!
Don't be ridiculous, Dame Judi Dench does not poo in a box.
This game introduced me to James Bond as a kid.
12:00
So, this is what became of The Human League?
Though I have no idea what the actual money spent on either game was, the PS1 version does feel so much more slapdash than the N64 version.
there's a texas hold'em minigame in the DS version of Bloodstone
17:15
Chasing the bomb into the pipeline...
So the bomb's not somehow chasing you in this version?
Hi Calvin!
Great to get another game review man!
Have you seen this coming Sunday @7 Pierce Brosnan will be doing a live commentary of Goldeneye??!!!
Esquire are looking for people to send in questions for it
Brilliant review Cal. I remember this game being a lot of fun, during my first play through; maybe I should dust it off & give it another go, to see just how rusty I am, lol 😆😂
Sending you love as always ❤️❤️❤️
What I really appreciate about this game is that you can change all of the controls! I set it to something similair to Nightfire, so it plays great!
I think the reason we don't get more gambling in Bond games has something to do with them breaking the pacing of the game, since they're almost always action- or stealth-oriented affairs.
That, and people more casual to things like blackjack could get stuck for a fair bit like I did here as a kid. :Y
Looking forward to the videos of the Game Boy and Game Boy Color games! The former one is pretty unique.
Dude, you really need to play this game on the N64. You're gonna love it.
The best part of this game , the soundtrack with the constant 'ice in the glass' sound in the casino level.
Any chance for a Top 10 Bond Games or Top 10 Bond Game Levels?
Much nostalgia for this game! Though I remember first playing it as a child and had no idea how to play it XD I absolutely love the music behind "Turncoat" too, so much so that I've been trying to find it here on UA-cam for quite a while!
18:48 is that? Is that Micheal b Jordon?
The ladies doing that weird yoga. If you interact with the lady at 11:48 who's boyfriend is standing by Zukovsky's door from an angle so her boyfriend's in the background, she looks more like she's actually pointing at him as she says "he's head of casino security, the one over by Zukovsky's door."
Thank you calvin
You’re very welcome 😁😁
Good review Calvin 😊
Thank you, Dylan :) Glad you enjoyed it!
@@calvindyson No problem, watching your reviews for the old Bond games makes me really want to buy a playstation and replay them! Or even better, it would be so cool if they released them in a bundle for newer consoles.
18:11 I just laughed with all of the "Rescue me" on screen!
What did you use to record the game this time?
Are you going to review The World is Not Enough for the N64 eventually? It's slightly different to the PS1 version.
Haha I loved this game.
Used to randomly button bash in the Blackjack part as I was too young to know what I was doing 😂
The rescue me section just cracks me up
I remember being so frustrated by the boss fight with Gabor in "Fallen Angel." It took me several tries to devise a strategy to run for cover, throw pipe bombs, and use the grenade launcher to weaken him and dispatch all the goons.
