Very nice Rudolph, thanks for sharing. I noticed you seem to be using Fiskar's brand scissors for cutting the vinyl, and that pair has a tab of some sort on one finger hole- is that something you use? Never saw one like that before. I see you use a different pair for cutting the threads. Would be interesting to know which scissors you use for what task, maybe you covered that already. Always enjoy learning your techniques. You're a real master of the art.
Hello William, As far as I'm concerned, scissors are not rocket science, The only purpose is to cut. Really, that's it. Please keep liking and watching!
Are you kidding me?? You made that look so easy where a dunce like myself would still be working on the first stitch:) Amazing job!! I am going to try something like this (without the french) on a small seat for a backhoe with a wooden base. Would you recommend any kind of vinyl for outdoor that will take weather maybe foam as well??
Hello Ruf, Thank you so much for saying so! Yea, just go for it! I think you will do just fine with your backhoe seat. Really just use a good thick automotive grade vinyl will do. Marine vinyl lasts about the same but more expensive. The foam is protected by the vinyl, so a medium density will do. Check this vinyl video out: ua-cam.com/video/WLYzglvx0hI/v-deo.html Please keep liking and watching!
Hello Marian, Thank you so much for saying so! I really appreciate it. I guess I really don't have an answer to that as I do not think seam allowance is rocket science. I really don't pay so much attention to it. Sometimes, I might use a tiny or almost no seam allowance (Like the Ferrari seats I am doing right now). Sometimes a larger seam allowance (Like boat seats or furniture) depending on the project. You see what I mean? Please keep liking and watching!
On the zipper....if was ok with the customer, is there a reason not to continue the zipper 2" or 3" down the side to make replacement and removal easier?
Hello again from NH! Can you tell me when doing the French stitch is there a top and bottom side to the stitch? Is that why you do your French stitch on the front side of the vinyl? In other words, is there a difference between the appearance of any stitch from the top and back or bottom view?
Hello Betsy in NH, The top side usually looks better than the bottom side. However, in a rare pinch, you can sew the bottom side and still achieve the top stitch. Go ahead and try it, you'll see for yourself. Please keep liking and watching!
I need to learn to add to a Dodge truck seat cushion. Patch where the frame came through. Have you addressed that in a video I may have missed? The current seat is upholstery material, but poor quality. Suggestions for where to buy quality replacement material?

Great video Rudolph. Question, I notice on this piece you didn’t cut for extra pattern seam. You measured the old one and transferred. Or maybe I missed that you added 3/8 or so. I did see you added for the zipper piece when making . So is it critical to add or just measure directly from old cover?
Hello Steve, Thanks pal! Really, I don't pay too much attention to seam allowance, When patterning directly like I did, I usually add like you said, about 3/8 inch of seam allowance. When making from patterns, I just duplicate what it was originally. There is no standard for seam allowance, I have seen from 1/8" to 3/4" in different applications. Please keep liking and watching!

Hi Richard, I just found your channel a week ago, thank you for showing how to do things the right way. What is the purpose of the high-density foam? Why dint they make the cushion all of the same density foam? i am curious because I have never seen that.

So if you have any videos where you go into detail on technique #29. I would appreciate it. I’m sorry to ask such a basic question . Thank you again for your video!

Hello Debbie, I think some people call it a sewing allowance so I have been told... I knew that the vinyl will stretch some and I also did not want any wrinkles from too much material. Standards for automotive and motorcycles are 3/8 inch. Marine are 3/8 to 1/2 inch while furniture can be 1/2 inch. Really it is not rocket science and anyone will do. Just sayin'. Hello Crazzy, Such awesomeness! Please keep liking and watching!

Hello Furu, Thank you thank you thank you!
Looks great. Why did you not add a seam allowance to the vinyl pieces when you cut them out except for the zipper? Thank you.
Hello Bogo, The end of the zipper is totally up to you. Sometimes I don't think too much about it. Please keep liking and watching!
Hello Kevin, I do have several videos on truck seat repairs. Try ua-cam.com/video/e0w_UjG54O0/v-deo.html Just Google "Upholstery supplier near me" Please keep liking and watching!
Ok, that is what I was thinking. You are quite the magician on this upholstery work. I’m learning so very cool things from you. Please keep up the great videos .

Hi Richard, I just found your channel a week ago, thank you for showing how to do things the right way. What is the purpose of the high-density foam? Why dint they make the cushion all of the same density foam? i am curious because I have never seen that.
Hello Carnac, Welcome aboard! I hope my videos can be helpful for you. Really, foam density is a comfort decision. Some people like soft, while other prefer hard. It is really that simple. Please keep liking and watching!
Could you evacuate the air and compress the cushion prior to installing the cover… or would that look like crap ones the foam expands?
Hello Rick, I suppose you could if you wanted to. In 44 years, I have never done that. Like I always say, there is always more than one way of getting things done. I think it is not rocket science. Just slip the cover on. Please keep liking and watching!
that zipper trick is excellent!
Hello Say, Thank you so much for saying so! I really appreciate it. Please keep liking and watching!
Hi again .. dummy question.. do you right angle both sides? I am so confused on how to get fabric prepped prior to cutting. I look at it and freeze. So if you have any videos where you go into detail on technique #29. I would appreciate it. I’m sorry to ask such a basic question . Thank you again for your video!
Hello Nancy, I am not sure I can describe it. Basically I cut out a square for the face and a strip of material for the sides. Please keep liking and watching!
@@oldschoolautoupholstery so you always use a right angle ruler?

Did your bobbin thread color just happen to match :) ? I noticed you prefer the pre-wound bobbins is that just a time/money thing from a pros perspective? I wish I could get my seems that nice.
Hello Timeout, I have always used pre wound bobbins, I only use Black and Beaver colors for everything. Thank you so much for saying so! please keep liking and watching!
when you cut the vinyl why don't you add the 1/2 in to be sewn in the seam?
Hello Debbie, I think some people call it a sewing allowance so I have been told... I knew that the vinyl will stretch some and I also did not want any wrinkles from too much material. Standards for automotive and motorcycles are 3/8 inch. Marine are 3/8 to 1/2 inch while furniture can be 1/2 inch. Really it is not rocket science and anyone will do. Just sayin'.
