I love how these guys let you in the shop and explain it to you and let you record. Very cool down to earth guys with lots of knowledge. Not very often you meet people who are so willing to take you in and show you how they do things.
These guys aren't ashamed to show the work that they are doing, so to me that means that they are proud of their work (as they should be). It's very interesting to see how they get a frame back in shape and use all the measure points as reference
I believe that if someone is happy to show you how they do things, it's a sign they do it well and are not doing anything dodgy behind the scenes. After this video, I can't see any reason to fault these guys or their methods.
Exactly my thoughts. These days many cars are disposable. It doesn't take much to total one, so I'd imagine frame shop demand is a bit down from what it used to be in the old days. If this were a carbon fiber chassis it would be totalled for sure.
tscooter22 Well CF and steel are inherently different, CF is brittle, whereas steel is malleable. So comparing the two is like comparing raw spaghetti to copper wire
@@christopherbrooke2142 That was my point. CF will take the hit and hopefully save your life, but it committed suicide while doing so As far as I know, once you do structural damage to the CF tub it is history.
A lot of us old guys (as you put it) that have years of knowledge like to share it to those who are interested because when we finally kick the bucket over, the library doors will close for ever. I just about tripped over my headstone going to the race shop this morning........ it's ok,.... I'm good! ;-)
When I first saw the frame, I would have figured it was beyond repair. I've never seen anything like this before and I'm so glad you were able to get in the shop and film. Super cool stuff!
IMO it’s something about watching that metal bend back that is so satisfying..paired with watching experts do the work and explain as they go! Top notch
@@RobDahm It would've been a drama-filled episode if a chain or chassis clamp were to come loose. The 1st few times I was around a jig like that being used, I was actually physically intimidated. lol
As a professional bodyman for 35 years and a guy thats done lots of Corvette work, I wanted to let you know you chose the right shop for that job. It is rare to see shops using center line gauges under a car anymore. newer shops like to use the fancy laser measuring systems. As you see the old school measuring allows the tech to watch the frame come into square and level . When used correctly, they are far better and faster than laser type systems. Also wanted to let you know I really enjoy your videos. You dare to be different, thats awesome. Keep up the great work!
Very impressive that they have the engineering drawings for the frame so they know precisely where everything should be. You were fortunate to find this shop, these guys are real pros.
This might be one of the most interesting repairs I've seen done. It's crazy that they were able to make the frame look brand new and not look like it was ever damaged. Kudos to the shop that did it
This is probably the most fascinating video I’ve seen on UA-cam. Mad props to you for filming this, and to the guys in the shop for letting you record this process.
rob thank you for doing what you do i just spoke to Corey at state road frame shop to look at my frame on my c5 , never would have found a shop willing to touch it if it wasn't for this video thx dude.
I’m so glad you posted this video, I’m getting ready to buy an old 96 ram pickup truck Indy pace edition from my uncle. It was involved in a wreck and has some slight frame damage and it so satisfying being able to show the process of how it’s done.
I like when a customer sees you working on their car and they have no idea, and are in awe of what you're doing... that's how to get return customers who will recommend you to everyone
I'm pretty sure that this will be one of those cases where the end result is actually an improvement over pre-damage condition. The elasticity of metal under the right conditions and the right hands is amazing.
Every UA-cam channel I watched has been sponsored by Raid lol On a serious note, this is a really cool video. Guys like this are the best to hang out with. It's awesome seeing how proud they are of their work and how willing they were to include you in the process.
Im so impressed with this shop!!! Thanks so much for this amazing content rob!!! glad to see theres still amazing shops like this around. Too bad insurance companies never repair frames on cars anymore, those were the good old days.
@Rob Dahm you should shout out that frame shop, there isn’t many like it left where you can go and they just don’t hack your car in half and glue another to it!
Sweet! This Vette is going to be such a unique beast. That's gonna be a hoot to blow some minds at LS fest! Looking forward to more progress. Now if my own project would just move along so well...
Rob. I just gotta say you are producing some awesome content in the UA-cam world. All the effort you put in does not go unnoticed to everyone watching. Just wanna give you some encouragement to keep up the good work. Loving every video man
I would have these guys work on my pride and joy ANY day of the week over a main dealer: no question, doubt or worry about it. I hate leaving cars in to main dealers even for a service, but I would entrust these guys with ANYTHING!
Its crazy seeing this done professionally, ive worked in small body shops and stuff like this we'd just get it close and shim everything else to make it work lol
That is crazy to think about... If it is taking 10 Tons of static force + Heat to straighten the frame, then the force to damage the frame in the first place is quite a bit!
I love how these guys let you in the shop and explain it to you and let you record. Very cool down to earth guys with lots of knowledge. Not very often you meet people who are so willing to take you in and show you how they do things.

Just about to post the same. Really nice of them shearing their experience and showing how it's done.
This is seriously so cool! These two old school guys REALLY shows they have pride in working with cars, and that puts a huge smile on my face!

tscooter22 depending how bad it is you can patch it with cf
You found a good bodyshop. They seem knowledgeable and are totally cool for letting you film them. They deserve more business.
If you make it to LS fest YOU HAVE TO PARK NEXT TO A LS SWAPED RX7.
That old guy pullin the frame seems like he knows what hes doing, going to lose alot of knowledge when he goes
Sadly so but damn he sounds like he is happy to see this build as well
I'm guessing he passed it down to the younger guy in the video, but yeah, you have a very good point.
Agree, oldschool craftmanship nowadays fading, that's sad...

Probably could teach you the difference between lose and loose.
man that is so impressive how precisely they can fix it!
Today Alpha Rob fixes the corvette so he can beat Rob Ferretti and prove once and for all that spinny bois are better than pushy bois
I have to wonder if he'll need the 3-rotor for that.
Spaghetti vs Dorito show down
@@tscooter22 Yeah, I doubt the 2-rotor can beat the raw power of an LS. But it sure is interesting to see how close a 13b can get to the almighty LS

If he makes it to LS fest it's gonna be interesting to see how everyone reacts.

That shop really knows their frame work, also really cool they let you take the camera and film a little while they explained it all.
Wow, that is artistry. You can feel it in your guts when you look at it and know it's straight. Know where I'd go if I needed frame work.
Dropped studying for my quiz as soon as I got the notification, totally worth it
great work ethic from ya

if you dont want to cut the subframe to fit the engine get a TRZ subframe
