  • Why Flying Cars Are Stupid And Will Never Happen...! Why Flying Cars are a Dangerous and Stupid Idea. Flying Cars, VTOL or otherwise, aren't ever going to catch on mainstream. Not only is getting a pilots license really hard, but do you really trust your average moron in a car, to now start flying too? Imagine all the horrendous acts an edge lord could do. They could easily cause several thousand to log out of life, just by aiming at populated centers.
This video is heavily inspired by Adam Something’s Video, but I wanted to build on some great ideas he brought up, as well as bring up some new ones and other concerns. They are an Infrastructure Nightmare
They need Runways, even if you share a runway per neighborhood, that’s a huge waste of space. Adam already talked about runways in his video, so I instead want to focus on the annoying comments I kept seeing on his video. VTOL AKA Vertical Take Off and Landing. 4 letters that will make any tech bro cream their pants.
However, VTOL is not as easy as you think. You’ll need special heat resistant driveways using the same material used on VTOL Small Carrier Decks.
Do you think every local business or city will shell out the cash needed to build these Heat Resistant VTOL Landing Pads? Yeah right. Unless they raise our Tax Dollars through the roof, they don’t have the incentive to make tons of VTOL Landing Pads.

Only if you think of them as "flying cars" meant for people to get around in. If you think of them as "roadable aircraft" meant for sport pilots, they start to make more sense, as you can use pump gas with them and don't have to pay expensive hangar fees since you can just keep them in your garage and drive them to the airfield. They're also relatively cheap to maintain by _aircraft_ standards (definitely NOT by car standards, though).

Union Pacific, the railway company, tried using turbine-powered locomotives in the 50s'. All of them were retired by 1970 because of a lot of problems, but one of them was that the exhaust was so hot that they would literally melt the asphalt when they were idling below a bridge, through the concrete. German here: Even if the Autobahn had no speed limits anywhere, you could not go fast everywhere, because it´s mostly that much traffic, you simply can´t go fast because of that! I did a ~250 mile drive today and even if there had been parts where I was able to go over 120mph, it did not made me arrive earlier. In regular traffic, you´ll sit in the next traffic jam and the slow af Opel Corsa you passed 10 mins ago will suddenly be right behind you. Nobody is talking about flying cars here, luckily. Germany is so dense populated, there would simply be no space for those things! The future of cars in germany probably will be a future a lot people wont like: Less cars! You can already see it coming, because everything about a car is super expensive, there is no space to park them in cities and a lot of people start to live without them again. The cars themself will probably get more luxerious and partly self-driving, because companys don´t even sell cheap cars anymore. So cars will become even more of a luxury status thing and/or a toy and the normal cars will disappear.

Side note: In a video on the subject, Knowledge Husk (formerly Knowledge Hub) pointed out that traditional, non-flying, cars are designed to create down force which uses aerodynamics to force the car to stay on the ground where it should be, while aircraft are designed to create lift which uses aerodynamics to lift the vehicle in the air. This being the case a flying car would have to be designed to do two opposing things at the same time, or at the very least change between the two, which is always a recipe for success./s

People can't even drive on land, what makes them think they'll drive better in the air?

Cool. Everyone will take to the skies and leave the 'ground roads' (that'll be the future term) just for me!!!! And then driving will be super fun!

Someone parked in the entrance path of a McDonald the other night. Not on one side, in the center. They had to back up to allow me to enter. And the BARELY did that.
Imagine people doing this in the air.

It's a paradox of freedom. People would rather be fettered by ownership and insurance in order to suffer collisions and sitting in rush hour traffic

I have enough things to worry about in life, I don’t want to add the worry of “a car literally falling through my roof” because some jackass decided to fly drunk.

You made a lot of good points in this video, but I have a couple of minor critiques. I like what you said about VTOLs needing a heat resistant place to land, but another thing to consider is that there could be electric VTOLs that do not have this issue. Another point is about bad drivers, the only problem with this point is that you would legally need a pilots license to fly a flying car.
