  • 4 Car Mods Car Guys give TERRIBLE Advice for! It's okay to still ask for advice, the title is that way because I mean c'mon you know how this website works. Non-car people also give terrible advice too. Yep. Uh-huh, y'know what it is. C.O.D. C.O.D. Sorry, I'm watching the latest Vanoss video as I make this one, and that's what he was saying. Or I guess I was actually watching Brian's video and Vanoss' voice was just in the background.
    Calls you a poor, despite being on Affirmed financed wheels n bags. That is wheel elitism in a nutshell.
    Look I support Real Wheels and all, but if someone ain’t got the money to get them right away, WHY YOU GOTTA RUSH THEM OFF THEIR OEMS???? Asking for Suspension Modding Advice doesn't go well either. Remember when Stanced Cars used to think they were rebellious and moving against the norm? Yeah well, I now see like 75% Stance Cars whenever I go to a Car Show, so I'm starting to think the "Rebellious Trend" has started to become "The Status Quo". Nice one. Try to be unique, but end up being all the same again. Can we go back to making Drag, Track, Drift, Dirt, and Daily Builds again? Sorry, I don't want to be an undrivable mess with no ground clearance.
    Also I don't have an issue with JDM Cars, just that they were the easiest to pick on, since they're usually the loudest community in the U.S. Car Community since liking Japanese things don't remind them of the Evil American things their parents grew up liking and it's rebellious to go against your parents. Yeah, I ain't holding back in the description here. I'm Asian, and actually visited multiple parts of Japan and honestly it creeps me out when White people over-worship it like a land of magic. Like bro, Japanese stuff is cool, I ain't gonna lie, but y'all need to chill about hating on American and European Stuff. I'm sorry "Westerners" remind you too much of your parents for you to want to associate with them during your rebellious phase, but why some MF's gotta fetishize my culture.
    Also obligatory: haha Bike Community good. Car Community Whack.

    I’ve had people try to convince me to convert my 66 Thunderbird to a manual and ask why I didn’t get one with a manual… It was only ever available with an automatic, so there is no “looking for one with a manual,” and a manual conversion would require butchering the perfectly good interior. I’ve also had people try to convince me to cut the roof off and make it a convertible… Moral of the story, people who tell you what to do with your own car are frequently idiots who know nothing about your car 😂

      anyone who tells you to convert a car to manual, has only ever played forza, where they think it's just a button click to convert a cars drivetrain.
      it can easily take the average person months to convert a car to manual, even if a car was optioned with a manual transmission, it's still a pain in the ass to do so, and in some cars you may need to cut apart the chassis. which is usually enough for it to be given a salvage title.

    • @BladedAngel
      @BladedAngel  6 місяців тому +4

      Right? The frame damage and salvage title is what stops most conversion. I've helped friends swap out a Miata and Mustang from Automatic to Manual, where the tunnels are more or less similar between the models. but whenever people tell someone to convert an obscure or rare car to manual...I just faceroll. Just Forza kids who never turned a wrench in their life. It's not the job that is stopping people, it's the consequences of frame damage after that is.@@devonesq.7533

      @@BladedAngel saw some guy comment about why don't people just 'swap the transmission' as if it doesn't cost 2 grand to buy a manual transmission gearbox and all the necessary components, and at the very least a day worth of work, and even then the ecu will have to be replaced otherwise you'll get a cel, all in all it's a huge pain.
      unless it's a miata or mustang like you mentioned (where all the manual options in good condition are extremely expensive) then it's really not worth it to 'swap' the transmission out. either buy the car as a manual, or just live with it.

I used to have an FC, and when I was talking about selling it to one of my coworkers, he said he wants to LS swap it and slam it. The original owner managed to get this NA 13B to almost double the stock horsepower and you want to just throw that in the trash to make it identical to 95% of the RX-7s out there? this is so true, i have a 92 mercedes 190e and basically the reaction of my classmate's (many of them are car guys) was that I defenitely need coilovers and get rid of my 15" wheels. But tbh i like how comfortable my high suspension is and i love my wheels, especially since the fitment is good as they're from the bigger w124 e-class. On the thing with transmissions: as a european with a 4 speed manual, i got to say it's just so much more fun. I like to think of it this way: A fast car will always be fun, no mather the transmission, but with a manual everything can be fun. The biggest reason i switched from my first car, which was a cvt, was when i got a small van as a dealership lend while my car had some work done. When it comes to transmission type, i usually throw this question back:
    How would you want to use that car, and how do you like to drive?
    If you prefer confort, chill cruising ,and you take long distances: Automatic
    If you have somewhat sporty driving style, and like feeling of connection with the mechanism, and also you need to take usually short/mid distances: Manual
    Unortunately i have no experience with CVT shifters, but pretty sure that has a something similar perk. Anyway it really depends on the way you want to use your car, and what experience are you looking for in driving. This is not rocket science tho, and i don't understand how can be people so based about this.

    • @KekeeBlack
      @KekeeBlack Рік тому +2

      I have a CVT (was ignorant about cars when I got it) and the perk is the insane fuel efficiency. It’s only 2000lbs so I get like 45 mpg on the highway. If I drive like a bat outta hell with all of my 76 hp it’s 36 still. By the time it gives out it will have paid for itself twice over in gas savings. The CVTs with a first drive gear are very reliable, and the Jatco ones that get so much negative press only seem to do well on micro econoboxes like mine. On the forum for my car there’s a guy that manages a fleet of them and one of his CVTs got 270k miles on it!
      When my trans kicks the bucket I’ll probably just get a manual trans from a junkyard and swap it.

    • @takidriver9752
      @takidriver9752 Рік тому +1

      @@KekeeBlack I did some research as well since then, and seems like CVT's biggest advantage is gas mileage and efficiency. What i read on forums, i think CVT is the way if you have a somewhat heavy car with a smaller engine (like modern cars usually does) So not sure the maual swap would work that great for you. Really depends on what car do you have.

    • @xylven5918
      @xylven5918 Рік тому

      As person who currently drives a CVT Lancer with shifters I can say its alright. Fuel efficiency is pretty good and going for the shifters on a highway does give it a bit of an engagement with the car. All the shifters do is give you an artificial feeling of changing gears but it does actually help in engine braking and overtaking.

    Looks like I met all 8 of your car enthusist maturity criteria around the age of 32. I'm 40 now. I do daily my enthusist car, but it's only a 99 miata, boosted to ~13psi. I got it to whip around people who don't know what the left lane is for when the right lane is completely vacant. I've never been the type to road rage, bait, or take the bait of someone on the road. When people started to chase me, because they started to road rage due to not knowing what a protected green is, I would just lose them. Take a sharp right turn and watch them go right past me. Had someone try to follow me home once. They tailed me for 20mi. I drove into my neighborhood, turned around, waited for them to turn the corner and started tailing them for about 2mi. I just think they saw me as a mark. Their vanity plate read "ohno". Other short stories involve a BRZ/FRS that was weaving through traffic while I jumped in the right lane, let him pass and jumped back in the left lane. Leaving enough following distance, I let a few cars jump in front of me, while maintaining plenty of distance behind me as well. Patiently waiting, I rode behind a semi and a Ram with a trailer who didn't know what lane to be in to take his exit. I just slowed down and let him in. As intended, I waited for the wide open mile long exit only lane and punched it past the stack of cars all clamoring to get on the highway. Among them was our boy in the FRS/BRZ. Once I got ahead of the crowd, I kept in the right lane, backed down the speed and waited for my exit. Lane bouncer McGee over here sped up in the left lane, darted 3 lanes over to the lane next to mine just to pass me and continue to weave through traffic. I just kept driving.
    Other news, I've never actually been to a car meet, but I need to, just to use them to find quality car guys to hang with and do car stuff with. I have a progressively worsening oil leak I need to address on my oil pan. But pulling the subframe, or engine just isn't fun by yourself.
    Also, I engine brake, rev-match and heel-toe everywhere. I don't do it to show off, I just like the practice and the confused look I get from most drivers. I also like to hear the ricers rev their engines at me. Lol. Me and a motorcyclist gave each other the thumbs up when we both came up to traffic and both did the same thing. It was a great feeling.
    I drove a 2015 mustang GT 6spd for about 2 weeks a few years ago. It was my dads and it was on loan while I had my 90 miata in the shop. (Yes, I have 2, don't judge me). The 265s on the rear of the mustang are grippy enough for most of the power that engine delivers, but can start to slip if you push it hard enough. Ford finally built a mustang I'm not afraid to take around a circuit. It's a pretty fun car to daily, even in traffic.
    Overall, great channel, 100% agree. You've told me essentially what I already knew, but it's good to know someone else agrees with me.

    About the transmission.
    Yes, Europe standard is manual, automatic gearboxes are just starting to be common (yet still rather extra paid, yes automatics in Europe are extras) in grocery getters, mainly hybrids.
    Yet I would love autoshifters in daily used in traffic jams. For fun? Manual since yes, I like that is engaging. Paddle shifters, DCT and PDK? Best of two worlds IMO. Wanna have fun and engagement? Do the paddle shift. Wanna just commute? Use auto. Overall just have the transmission that suits you best.
    I'd add that you shouldn't ask for exhaust mods - like wheels and suspension, if you have OEM or vErY sIleNt exhaust, close to or plain stock, you'll get a lot of "advices" to go straight pipe or cat back. It's the type of mods that gain attention, potentially unwanted, since they're first to get noticed.

My friend's colleague (my friend works at a local workshop and his colleague is a mechanic student) said that my wheels were ugly and that I should get something better. I run on 18" Volvo Ocean Storm wheels on my 2006 Volvo V70. He also said my tires were getting worn and that the treads were getting too shallow. Minimum legal lmit is 1.6mm during the summer season and 3mm for winter season. I have 5mm of treads left. Ironically, his Volvo 240 has a set of fake Volvo R Pegasus wheels.

I also am closer to making the cleanest example of my stock car, rather then putting 50 million mods on it to make it look and drive like a different car. Change the halogens to LEDs or HIDs in the housings, then for the interior make the dome light brighter, make my brake lights brighter, stuff like that. Safer when done right and updates the look just a bit. I don't do underglow or those kinds of lights until I've hit the point of more visual mods.

    If you want a manual, it's the most available and cheapest thing, if you want an automatic, it's gonna be more expensive and often worse (the first french automatics were awful transmissions, and french hatchbacks are very popular shitboxes over here) unless you go for an already more expensive car (autobahn machines)

    Suspension is the biggest thing I don't know how to go about fixing improving. I feel like I could do the suspension work (not the alignment, of course). I need to improve my suspension, every bump feels is like I'm hitting a pothole, and the front drivers side is slightly lower than the passenger side for some reason. I want to keep the ride height as OEM as possible, and also want a smoother ride, while still retaining the corner performance with minimal lean that a Mustang should have. Every time I look at suspension parts, it all seems to be about lowering and stiffening the ride. Then there's the issue that I have IRS on mine. Almost everything for the 99 Mustang I can find says "is not compatible with IRS."
    I could take it to a shop, but I've had issues with shops also getting stuck at the IRS part, and also I know I'd pay out the ass for labor costs (and probably over pay for the parts, too).
    I don't know how to approach it, and I'm worried about the completely unhelpful responses on Mustang forums...
    Also, manual is super fun. Automatic is super convenient. Also, many autos have the ability to operate in "manual" unless you're driving a minivan. I also understand that dual clutch is amazing for top end performance. One day, I hope to get to try out a DCT.
    Also, wheels are SUUUUUUUUUUPER subjective. I don't think you're ever going to get a proper answer with that.

If I want to go low I'll go air so I can clear speed bumps. But my preferred vehicle at this time is my 99 F150 with the 5.4L Triton engine. I know that truck can eat JDM ricers. I do want to swap the 4 speed for a modern 6 speed. I don't want to swap to a manual I want to stay automatic. I'd buy one from a Mustang because they are built to handle the power. Regarding transmission choice, it is not always subjective. It depends how you plan to use the car.
    Manual transmissions, besides being more fun and engaging than the other options, tend to be reliable and reasonably efficient, especially if you know how to use it. Because if you don't, you might burn out the clutch prematurely, especially if you drive in bumper to bumper traffic a lot of the time, and replacement costs might be expensive. This is for everyone who can drive it, but I wouldn't recommend it if you are going to drive in city most of the time.
    DCT, being the quickest is the best choice for a track car, hands down. However, depending on the brand's and implementation, it tends to be much less reliable than a manual and it requires more maintenance. It also suffers from the same downside as a manual in bumper to bumper traffic. Based on this, cars with DCTs should be reserved mostly for track rather than daily driving, since they will be a lot more expensive to maintain when putting miles on them than any other option.
    CVT/eCVTs are the best for efficiency and heavy traffic and can be reliable (like Toyota's eCVT and unlike Nissan's CVT). The biggest downside is the lack of engagement/gears, that prompted manufacturers to create the travesty that is fixed gear ratios in the "sport" mode for these transmissions. Alongside EVs and Hybrids(which usually have eCVTs anyway), cars with these transmissions are the best A to B cars since they are the most efficient and, depending on brand, comparable if not more reliable than manual, especially when driving in a city, but have the least amount of engagement.
    Classic(torque converter) automatics are ok, but do not excel in any way. They are neither fast nor efficient, but tend to be somewhat reliable and lower maintenance than a DCT. This is the best choice if you want an automatic and don't care about DCT's shifting speed, but still want to go through individual gears.

    On transmissions, manuals are not bad in traffic, those who say they are either never mastered them, or fell into the "race" clutch life. A stock clutch is fine until it wears out or you over power it. CVTs would be great if we ever got a performance varient of one. Late to the party on a 2 month old video, but here's what I've got to say:
    If your going to change out your rims, please, for the love of everything holy, do NOT go with gravity cast wheels when low-pressure casting is available. It is better and provides more control on the formation of the wheel during the casting process, it may not be forged but it's still affordable and can handle the road a bit more than traditional gravity cast wheels.
    Modding is a personal preference, but I have my own list of distane against certain mods or certain levels of modding. If you think covering your car in the discount bin at Autozone adds an heir of coolness to your rattled, bone stock 2004 Chevy Neon, your fooling yourself. If you spent 5-6 hours working on the intake and exhaust system in a JDM with decent injection and flow mods, you have good taste and common sense. Not all mods are bad, but not all modders are good either.
    I've been told about 6 times now that I "need" to swap the own engine in my '98 Civic with a B series... even though I lack the cash and the necessary resources to obtain and tune it. I just want a D series because it's efficient, simple to maintain and you can find them nearly anywhere you look in salvage yards in the south. Would I like a B series? Absolutely. Could I afford one if I found it? Definitely not. B series engines are reaching $7k at 64k miles right now on Ebay motors, let alone the fact that they are native to the Japan market only and finding one stateside is a miracle in its self these days. Plus you also need the ECU, axles, engine mounts, wiring harness, etc... all that racks up to a $12k bill, not including labor, fluids, hoses or tools.
    On the subject of transmissions, my civic is a 5 speed manual. I enjoy the sensation of manual driving, I've mostly driven automatic but learning manual driving has been a fun experience for me. I feel everyone should give it a try at some point just to say they did... who knows, maybe we get a resurgence of standard drivers going again.
    Everyone has preference, as I have mine you have yours. Do what you like... just don't throw others under the proverbial bus.

    On the transmission I dont really have a choice, I am a double above-knee amputee, and in my country, I cannot legally drive with prosthetics when the amputation is above the knee, so I needed to get my drivers license with a adapted car, but there is not a single driving school in my country that offers lessons in a manual adapted cars (probably because the demand is way to low) so I am stuck with a Automatic drivers license.
    On tractors there is no such distinction between manual and automatic in the drivers license, so with tractors I can legally drive manuals which I do enjoy more than automatics/CVT.
    But automatics/CVT are more comforty/relaxing.

    If you ask me I hate driving automatics when we talk about driving fast or in any type of traffic. Only time I think automatic isn't annoying to drive is on some mainroad going the speedlimit otherwise I want my manual or atleast I need to change my gears myself as I hate it when the car changes gears mid corner it maked me feel like I havr no control over the car. Manual for me is also the favourite because I drive a lot in the finnish winter and having a clutch can be the only thing that makes you regain the control of the car during a spin

    With the first one Wheels. I am one of those people who put Difference manufacturer OEM wheels on a different car. for example my 2011 Accord has Nissan Maxima Wheels. the ones that looks like they came on the Nissan 350z
    I recently got a hold of some Nissan Altima SE-R Wheels once I get the 4th one imma paint and put those on my Accord also. No need to spend a bunch of money on wheels when im happy with OEMs from other brands

    From my experience Off Road community suffers the least from these, at least where I live. Doesn't matter what brand you drive, what wheels you run, etc.
    We're just happy to see more people enjoying going through a yard deep puddle of mud, up sandy hills in the middle of the woods or just going off the paved roads to go camping.
    My buddy Andre has a BMW Diesel swapped Nissan Patrol. Our friend Stephan has a Wrangler. And I'm the "poor" of the three, driving a clapped out Chevy S10 (and still beating these two bc my truck doesn't weigh 6k pounds like Andre's LMAO).
    We're teasing each other about our tracks constantly, we're pushing each other to do stupid things with them, but most importantly we're having fun and it's all in good spirits.
    That's what it's all about. Cars and trucks and shit are cool, but making friends through these things is the best part, the most important part.

    I once had someone tell me you have to drive manual because "we need to be strong like our ancestors" like dude my ancestors were sacrificing people to the gods and aligning whole entire fields of corn using just their fingers for measurement they didn't even know wtf a car was 💀💀💀
