Dr Michael Shermer begins by saying that 84% of the world's population believe in some kind of organised religion and how do those who believe in a particular religion know that they have chosen the right one and everyone else has got it wrong?
He proceeds to explain two pieces of evidence that proves that humans made up God and religion and not the other way around. He starts with evolutionary theory saying that we are all descendants from cautious creatures who creator false positive rather than false negatives.
The creation of an agency (an omnipotent being) within a religion is a powerful force of social control. Then the second line of evidence is the what ever social environment were born into we would be exposed to the dominant religion in that environment i.e. India -- Hinduism, Europe -- Christianity.

I can still remember being a little kid when my parents put me in Sunday school. As they taught us about Jesus and god and religion in general,I thought “what are they trying to tell me here”? I don’t believe any of this”.

I've not once in my entire life heard of evidence supporting the supposed existence of one or more deity. And that is why I don't believe in God. It simply makes no sense. And sinning? If religion would make people stop sinning, why is christians priests raping children a constant subject? And to sin means to violate the will of a deity. Without evidence that a deity exists, there is no evidence that anybody can sin. Or in other words: as an Atheist I can not sin because no deity exists.

Many people demand evidence for God. But God says people already have enough to show He exists. And, the thing is with evidence, it is subject to our interpolation. And how we interpret evidence has nothing to do with the evidence. The way we interpret the evidence is based on our foundational beliefs- the beliefs we bring to the evidence. Therefore all evidence is subject to what we already believe. As a Christian My foundation, ultimate authority, is God. And because in these sort of discussions on worldviews we need to start there - with your foundational beliefs. And whether they can provide a coherent justification for a worldview. So let's start there. As an atheist, what is truth in your worldview? This is am important question because it will show what your ultimate authority is and whether it is justifiable or not.

At one point I asked him for proof of one of his ideas and he linked me to a German document (Who does that?). He's the most terrified, insecure, unimpressive atheist I know. Little did he know I'm also an atheist.

The idea that the Bible should be taken as historical fact and not just moral philosophy is absolutely ludicrous. I was a Christian my whole life until recently because I realized how brainwashed I was. It’s likely something created our universe from an alternate universe or higher dimension. But to believe that a 2700 year old book and a sky wizard philosopher are responsible for creation, is just so illogical and unbelievable.

This was THE MOST lucid explanation of how and why religions evolved. Much more useful to the cause of atheism than attacking religion -- just explain the human causes of it, and all the rest of its bumph just falls away.
