Scotland History Tours is here for people who want to learn about Scottish history and get ideas for Scottish history tours. I try to make videos which tell you tales from Scotland's past and give you information about key dates in Scottish history and historical places to visit in Scotland. Not all videos are tales from Scotland's history, some of them are about men from Scotland's past or women from Scotland's past. Basically the people who made Scotland. From April 2020 onward I've tried to give ideas for historic days out in Scotland. Essentially these are days out in Scotland for adults who are interested in historical places to visit in Scotland.
As a Scottish history tour guide people ask: Help me plan a Scottish holiday, or help me plan a Scottish vacation if your from the US. So I've tried to give a bit of history, but some places of interest in Scotland as well.

I'm about 20 mins away from the castle, me and my pals would drink in the graveyard and on the walls of said castle, even the drunken youth are usually respectful to it.
Growing up in Bannockburn, we learn a lot about our history at a very young age, the way you capitulate the kings and queens of our past is exactly the way we should have been taught at school....ya know...not boring.
Anyways, thanks for the content Bruce.
Do you have anything on John Blair
Turn or burn, naw yer awryt Mary we will burn
Please read my comment about the Isle of mull, I'd love to know what you think?
Sorry
I often wonder if the people wandering in the background realize they’re extras in one of the best UA-cam channels around
😂
Watching BBC 2 last week I wondered if people realised they were watching one of the best UA-camrs around!!
I watch Scotland History Tours while I relax and have a smoke. One of the best ways to unwind after a hectic day at work.
as a relatively proud Stirlinger ive long maintained that we had the best castle. Glad to see it get the recognition !
I agree, Dean. We do have a great castle.
@@jackdubz4247 Indeed we do!
@@Strength-in-Union Yep, THG. I was up there this afternoon. It was bloody roasting but I enjoyed the view.
@@jackdubz4247 LONG LIVE DUNSCAITH!!
He's got an incredible UA-cam channel, give this man his own TV series!! History, especially Scottish history is awesome and this legend packs some good laughs a long the way! Keep it up man 💙🏴
Yes!! Better and more authentic than the stuff Neil Oliver pumps out
There's something strangely nostalgic about hearing someone with a Scottish accent using onions as a metaphor for layers.
I was born in airthrey castle. Bridge of Allan and somehow I have always had a great love for Stirling castle. It's by far my favourite castle with astoundingly interesting history. Add the romantic bravery of Wallace and Bruce and this whole area of Scotland has a fascinating, hypnotic sense of Drawing you into the past. You can almost imagine hearing the cries of the men, the clashes of weapons , and the hooves of the horses. I just love this area.⚔️⚔️🛡️🛡️🗡️🗡️
Watching from Germany at 2 am drinking a wee dram after spending a great evening catching up with an old friend. Stirling castle is a great place.
I’m standing on a ladder picking our grapes in Croatia as an English/Irish-American ex-pat somewhere in the Adriatic region of Europe listening to every one of your amazing stories, Bruce!
You make a strong case for Stirling’s importance. To answer your question about how I watch - Usually at lunch accompanied by a beer or ale.
Sitting at home on my lunch break learning Scottish history!
When I lived in Stirling, I still remember the stooshie when the Great Hall was painted. I'm Scottish, however, I'm currently living in exile in the middle of Norway. Stirling castle has always been my favourite castle. Many years ago I was there with my mum and dad when we saw the actor Jack Lemon pass us talking to his young (and very bored looking) daughter.. he was telling her to look around, as this castle is a lot older than her country.. Stirling is remarkable, wherever you're walking it feels like you're going uphill.
Lemmon died 22 years ago so it must have been many many years ago
@Sean McVeigh I was being kind to my ancient, decrepit self.😄
@@kennethmacgregor-Gregorach I feel your pain.
@Sean McVeigh Nice to know i'm not alone my friend😄
While stuck in lockdown in Melbourne, Australia, I watch these videos over my lunch break while working from home. Stirling Castle has long been on my list of castles to visit, ever since I fought the Battle of Stirling Bridge in Age of Empires 2 as a wee lad.

@@markdavis8430 Gah my mistake!
The moment I saw the outer wall I instantly knew what great site you were at. Great visit. My grandfather also spent several parades there with the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders.
Edit: I watch your videos whenever I get the notification and have the time. You do the video's incredibly well. It doesn't have animations or reinactments other documentaries have, but you take time to actually go there in person.
Keep up the good work mate.
my grandfather was also an argyll
Yay! My home castle. I see the bloody thing every day on my way to work.
I absolutely love Stirling Castle. I've taken everyone I love to visit this place because it was such an important place when growing up in the area.
Watching on my TV in Tucson Arizona- my grandfather was from Glasgow so I like to learn as much about Scotland has possible
Thank you Bruce!

Love watching your lessons on this incredible country’s history late at night when everything finally quiet.
I generally watch your videos on my morning and/or afternoon break. I always enjoy a good "story".
Awesome, thank you!
Listening to a good speaker and oration of complex scottish history whilst at home working, and then with kids from our little hoose in NW Aberdeenshire in the Cabrach
Watching from Florida, while sitting at my desk eating my lunch. Great entertainment, and excellent stories! Makes my retirement all the better.
Don't let it put you off your dinner (sorry lunch)
Most of my childhood was spent in Stirling castle. It truly is a great castle to visit
I watch everyone before sharing them on my history page not to censor but to gain personal knowledge!

I have lived in Scotland my whole life and I still haven’t visited Stirling Castle yet…
I love Edzell castle. Lived there at different times for 7 years while I was in the US Navy.
I lived in Brechin. Probably around the same time. Late 80s
I lived there in 63-65, 74-75 and 80-83.
It’s 9 at night, sitting’ wae ma partner, drinkin’ tea and watchin’ this. Jist bliss!
I drove past the castle about 8 hours ago heading back to Glasgow, stunnin' in the sunshine. Cheers for yet another quality vid Bruce!
Watching from Montreal, Canada... I like History stuff from all around the world
My mother’s line are Armstrongs and my wife comes from MacGregor and Macfarlane stock. We’re watching from near the most eastern point of Australia, connecting to ancestral heritage.
I’m watching this relaxing on my bed. Remembering back years ago when I was stayed at Airth Castle. Had a crazy late night tour of the Stirling Castle in the dark with my husband and a gentleman from Airth Castle showing us around. My heart ❤️ belongs to Scotland 🏴. Thank you for these outstanding videos.
Hope to go back next year to meet up with two very dear friends that live in the UK.
Honestly I would love to sit down with you and just lesson to the stories and your amazing “ accent” . I’m in love with. Thank you again🙏
I visited Stirling Castle 40 years ago when the great hall was a barracks still. Would love to see the restored version. Next visit.
It's fab
Thankyou for another great bit of Scotland's incredible history Bruce! Watching in my camper in Sunny Florida! Can't miss these gems no matter where I am😃😃
Been there a few times over the years always stunning when the young actors in costume interact with the tourists on the slope leading up to the castle watching on 50 inch 4k tv and loving it.
Watching from my home in West Texas, waiting to plan my 4th trip to Scotland with my wife. Thanks for the videos.
Hey bud this is honestly the best channel I've come across on the history of Scotland. Plus I love your ability to put the image of whatever you talk about in clear and clourful description. Plus you don't candy coat anything. This channel is a gem and though I am a American I love history. Thanks for sharing your knowledge 🙏
Hey, thanks so much!
I watch in the evenings, after work. Your enetaining yet educational videos never leave me wanting. From "Big Sky Montana" a hearty thank you for what you do.
Wow, thanks!
I had a feeling you were going to say that. (I’ve visited quite a few castles, from Dunadd to Fort George, and they were all different. But, if I were to rank Scottish castles I’ve visited, Stirling would probably also be my top one.)
I love your delivery, it makes me want to live in Scotland. Truely.
As you asked: watching this on a laptop, on a table, at home in Manchester, after a long hard day and with appreciation for the craftsman behind my entertainment.
Cheers fella.
Sitting and relaxing with in my own home and getting to know the true real history.
If you're perched on the "throne" long enough to watch these videos, you need a bit more fruit and fiber in your diet! .... Me? I watch while I am procrastinating over a design decision at work . Bruce gives my mind a wonderful diversion! thank you!
😂
Sitting in my living room at night in my house in Gourock. Choose to watch this over tv , netflix , Amazon prime or any of my favourite starwars stuff on Disney plus. This history lesson is my entertainment tonight. If only my history teacher back in high school could make his history lessons as interesting or fun to listen too.
Excellent video as always Bruce! If I ever get my one bucket wish fulfilled I'll visit there for sure! So much cool history! To answer your question, I usually sit down and watch your videos after I get home from work. It's late at night here and watching my favorite story teller is the best way to unwind!
Ah Nancy, you're so kind
Watching just across the water in Northern Ireland in a small village called Gleno just outside of Larne. Scotland feels like home as it's so similar to here. I tend to watch in the evening when unwinding as I could listen to these videos all day long!
Home early and sitting in my kitchen. Another top quality production better than anything I’ve watched on the mainstream. Thank you.
Wow, thanks!
sitting relaxing at home in the historic village/township of Eastriggs and thoroughly enjoying every minute.
I’m relaxing in my house eating lunch and drinking my tea. I needed to relax soooo, I am watching your video. I LOVE your accent and I am learning something new. I live on Long Island New York USA.
Your channel is so amazing. Thank you for doing this series.
Stirling Castle has long been on my "go-to" list of places to visit (if I ever get to Scotland), and for some of the same reasons Bruce already listed.
As for where/how I watch these videos, it's usually just at my desktop, often while I'm doing "busy work". However, I also play them on my phone while putting away the dishes, groceries, etc.
Watching on my sofa in Florida between household chores. I was at Stirling Castle several years ago and hope to return. Your tour gave me more info than the tour guide did then.
Get that hoover out! Do you call them hoovers over there?
@@ScotlandHistoryTours Vacuum cleaners are rarely called hoovers over here, although I do, at times. Funny that you should mention hoovering as I was debating whether or not I felt energetic enough for that today.
I’m watching this to wind down after a long day. I love the history and your story telling skills.
On a rig in the North Sea!. We've actually met before Bruce, back when I was on the Scottish comedy circuit a few years ago, recently came across your videos in my recommendations and I have thoroughly enjoyed them. Keep them coming!
Hey man, now ye telling jokes oot on the rig?
In answer to your question to your viewers Bruce, I'm watching this video in my flat in a wee northeast England mining village, a bit half cut (I don't drink much and I'm a bit of a lightweight) sipping on a glass of cider and about to serve up my dinner :-)
🤪
I really enjoyed visiting that area of Scotland. Robert the Bruce, William Wallace monument.
A beautiful castle!❤️
that's my favorite Castle, too!! To answer your question, I live in the northeast U.S. and usually watch your videos in the evening as a way to unwind and learn something .... and dream of a return tip to Scotland (have been 5 or 6 times in my life but still so much to see. My Dad was from Paisley so still have a few contacts).
Currently in Lossiemouth enjoying a fantastic view of the Moray Firth and listing to well-told stories of our nation's past
Watching near Dublin at my home office desk while I'm doing some data entry.
Another awesome history lesson from out teacher.
New Zealander currently working in Papua new Guinea. Love your content. As a Sanderson about five generations back my ancestors came from Scotland.
What blew me away was the The Regimental Museum of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders.
Watching from my Bar room, “The Queens Arms” thank you Bruce.
I play the videos in the background while I'm working away on the west coast of Canada. I have to admit I often just listen and don't actually watch.
IT's the facial expressions that matter 🤪
Watched on Patreon, and really liked the "extra" content on Stirling Castle. Both excellent videos.
We visited Stirling in February 2016. It was the one day of our two week trip that the weather frowned on us - the rain that day was epic! We still enjoyed the castle, but you definitely had to sprint from building to building and you could only barely see the monument.
It was a bit like that today as well
Stirling Castle is one of my favourite places to visit (I was there last week), so really enjoyed this video. By the way I tend to watch while I'm cooking dinner or cracking on with some work.
Any chance on the history of the Scottish breaching the town walls at Newcastle including the battle of Newburn Ford etc? Thanks from a big Geordie fan 👍🏻
Ooh this sounds really interesting.
Noted. I'll need to do a bit of research and will be expecting refreshments when I get there
@@ScotlandHistoryTours you let me know when and where and it’s a deal 👍🏻
Being disabled & basically house bound I watch these vids on my TV in the afternoons. With that said, Thank you for all of your hard work, travel, & very interesting topics & vids. You my good sir are greatly appreciated.
Ah, I'm feeling a bit jaded just now, but reading this first comment in an evening session of responding makes me realise I should get off my backside and keep at it.
Good videos I usually watch before work, great way to relax and learn about the best part of the UK. Scotland clearly the better half 😉👍
you hear of last week's siege to Edinburgh Castle? They cited the Magna Carta LOL
Complete muppets
I was at Stirling Castle recently and there were three police vans expecting a similar thing there, but it was just one guy on a motor bike with saltires flying out the back. Then I passed him on the way north with the flags wrapped up and just a big pole sticking up fae the back o his bike

Watching this evening on the pc, as per usual, with my feet up and a pint. What's the best way to work one's way through your series? In the order you made them? Or is there another way you've mapped out?
Go to the playlists probably. Then they're chunked together by subject. I need to keep them up to date though
I grew up in Clackmannanshire before moving to Stirling so always took the castle for granted. I've since relocated to North East England.
I did try and go there at least once or twice a year when I lived there. Spent a lot of time there as a kid.
Currently sat in a costal town in Northumberland watching this after another long day's graft. Love watching these videos to relax and wind down.
Brilliant
thank you again Bruce for another wonderful presentation of Scottish History. I wish that I would have had you for a guide when I was there at Stirling Castle. as it was, I walked around sort of aimlessly from location to location not knowing what I was looking at.
I tend to watch your videos when I'm relaxed and curious about the subject matter of the particular video. your presentations are never boring. thank you for that. you'd make a great History professor.
As always I'm watching from the end of Hadrians Hadrians Wall.
Hadrian's Hadrian's ? So good they names it twice😎
@@ScotlandHistoryTours hahaha! I have no explanation as to how I managed managed that. 😂
That was a big Sinatra hit.

The sun has set in Pretoria, South Africa. I am watching with the choir of frogs in the background after an early spring, here.

Absolutely LOVED the Rohan golden hall comparison! Brilliant videos! Watched with a coffee in my living room!
Watching on my iPad, on my couch, drinking a cuppa, not only loving the history, the castles but love hearing that gorgeous Scottish accent...I'm an Aussie..

Watching over my morning coffee in New Zealand. I visited Stirling Castle a couple of years back, amazing place!
When I see you look round, Bruce, I can't quite figure out where my barrack room was. I was a A&SH NS recruit and lived there 3 months in 1955. I transferred to the Paras and was glad to leave it. I have not been back since.
Wow
G'Day from Australia. I am learning so much from these videos .I enjoy watching them with my morning coffee.
Love your videos, very informative and the way you tell the stories keeps it intriguing. I often wonder why at school they were more interested in teaching us shit about the Romans and not our own heritage and what made us who we are today. I'm sitting here watching your video in the living room before I head to bed , that's the norm 👍
I'm in Washington state, making supper, Beef Doner, for my family. I'm a writer... sort of, so my favorite part of your videos, with the exception of Scottish history, is when you say, "Let me tell you a story," and your Gaelic outro. They always make me smile.
That is awesome! Hope dinner was good
Stirling Castle is my favourite too. I used to work in Stirling and sometimes walk around the castle in my lunch break. I'm very fond of the slow bus from Stirling to Aloa. Taking in the University campus, The Wallace Monument and the impressive Hillfoots. On the way back the castle keeps popping up to remind us of its presence. The gold wash they used on the restoration of the Great Hall was controversial at the time, imagine what the whole thing would have looked like in gold.
Indeed
Hi Bruce, just wanted to say hi from Montenegro, i'm watching you from my bed before sleep. Our country had similar destiny like Scotland, fighting fro independence trough all of our history and we finally got at the end! I hope Scotland gets the same, and big hugs for all Scotland people!

I'm learning so much from this guy!!
I've been all over England & Wales but not yet to Scotland.
I would have been there for a month last summer with my wife but......
Anyway I'm glad I found this because when I do get there next summer (God willing) I'll know so much more about where I am!!
I'm in the Texas Coastal Bend area - Corpus Christi Texas.

I always liked visiting Stirling Castle over Edinburgh when a was wee.

Watching from my kitchen table in Canberra, Australia. Certainly, the best castle to visit in Scotland, fantastic location.
My wife and I watch your videos while having our breakfast in bed on Saturday mornings in Sydney Australia. This is our one time in the week where we can be selfish and indulgent. My ancestry is Scottish, being Douglas and MacPherson, and I have always been fervently interested in Scottish history. I introduced my wife (who is a history teacher) to your channel last year, and we have now made it a tradition every Saturday to block out the world and listen to your stories over a cuppa, especially now as we are in lockdown again. All the best and don’t stop posting your amazing content!
Now that is brilliant

I was born in Stirling and lived in the area till I married and moved to Ayrshire and later emigrated to Canada. I now live -and watch these videos- in Nova Scotia so the best castle in Scotland is very nostalgic for me.
Slainte!
Absolutely wonderful video, as always. I’m late to the party, but I’m sitting in my recliner, watching on my tablet, in southern Arizona, fondly remembering my visit to Stirling. As good as our guide was then, I wish we’d had you as our guide.
I watch these videos, whilst completing ‘paperwork’ out of hours in my role as a Community mental health nurse in an early intervention in psychosis service
I need something interesting, funny and compelling to keep up my own morale!
I also find post work or post exercise lying on a sofa is great!
I also like to get my kids watching as people who can tell a story, speak with confidence and humour are excellent role models and examples!
I finish out my day after work to your videos takes away all the stress of the day thank you and cheers 🍻
I watch with my morning coffee. It’s like watching the news for the day only without the existential dread.
